Questions that may never be answered

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

1. What exactly was the deal between Stephane Dion and Elizabeth May? (And why didn’t Dion deny the rumours?) Check this out.

2. Why was the alleged plagiarism by Stephane Dion largely ignored by the media?

3. Why was the alleged report by Liberal-hired ‘experts’ that the Cadman tape had indeed been altered not more widely available in MSM?

The Red-Green Show is no longer a comedy

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Something is really starting to stink here.

The question has now become: What exactly was the deal between Stephane Dion and Elizabeth May? Was it merely a simple pact agreeing not to run an opposing candidate from each of their parties in their respective ridings?

Or is there more to the story?

Steve Janke explores one theory:

…But now there is a rumour is that in exchange for influencing the votes of Green Party supporters, Elizabeth May would be appointed a Senator by Stephane Dion, then brought into cabinet as environment minister…

The interesting thing here is that Stephane Dion has never come right out and denied this rumour. He’s talked around them, but never directly said that it didn’t happen. Just yesterday, Jane Taber challenged him on CTV’s QP. He evaded the question.

And as far as the Green leader goes, Lizzie’s making us dizzy with all her spin.

Mary T presented an intriguing theory in the previous post:

I do believe dion has promised May a cabinet post, by having her cross the floor if elected or a senate seat if she isn’t. But, the question is, would he keep the promise. Who will break the promise first. She has turned against the greens, so if it looks like Dion was lying to her she has no place to go.

But, dion is promising and insisting on the greenshaft. Is May telling him to do this or she will go to the media with their pact. Expect a high placed liberal to give an exclusive to the media, to throw both May and Dion under the bus. Unnamed sources of course. Hey, I can dream.

My question is, why isn’t this situation being investigated by Elections Canada?

Update: Green Party in chaos over May’s "secret deal" with Dion. - A Dog Named Kyoto.

Something just occurred to me… What about all those dedicated Green Party workers, financial supporters and exhausted candidates who have been told that their effort was for naught? Also, if people listen to Dion and vote Red instead of Green, then the Green Party will miss out on every $1.75 government funding per vote. This must be making the Greens livid!

Update: Nexus - Why can’t Elizabeth May just be honest with Canadians?

Lizzie May beats up on Duff

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

You might have missed the scuffle last night on MDL Prime Time. Duff interviewed Elizabeth May at an All-Candidates’ Debate in Antigonish, after he had talked to Peter MacKay. Lizzie was not happy with the way Mike was doing his job:

"Mike Duffy, I think your question on the way you set it up to uh, Peter MacKay constitutes a significant violation of journalistic ethics.  I think you have to uh, go back to how you started and try to frame me as out to lunch. What I said was in this debate and what Green Party policy is that we have to renegotiate NAFTA in the interest of Canadians and the interest of Canadian energy security.

You and I go back a long time. I like you enormously but I think that had to be called out. That was simply not an appropriate way to frame the discussion or frame the question…"

( . . . )

"… and I honestly felt I needed to say that the introduction to your interview with Peter MacKay was based on falsehoods. And I don’t think that that’s the way that people want to watch Mike Duffy Live. They want to know what I really said…"

(As always, I have transcribed this as best as I can. The clip is not on the CTV site.)

Elizabeth May is quite the woman, isn’t she? She’s leader of the Green Party and she is also an expert adviser on running major network news shows.

Seriously though, I was worried about poor Duff. If it were me, the old blood pressure would have been through the roof!

Don’t take it personally, Duff.  We love ya!

Lizzie May’s got some explaining to do!

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Elizabeth May seems to have trouble shaking an anti-Jewish perception about her party.

Matt has come into possession of a leaked email between Green Party candidate Rosemary Frei and party worker Daryl Vernon whom she obviously relies on for her talking points.

Ms. May needs to explain where she stands regarding Vernon’s comments about "that onesided & partly deluded jewish community…"

More at Shotgun - The Green Party’s continuing Israel problem… and SDA.

Perhaps someone could ask her about this during the leadership debates.

Update : Matt receives a response from the Green Party.

On the issue of integrity and politicians

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Is the title of this post an oxymoron?

Sadly, there are few of us who actually believe the campaign promises of any politician on the hustings. Dalton McGuinty’s introduction of the Health Tax is an example of a ‘broken promise.’ This present government has had a few as well (eg. income trust), even though it can be argued that there are credible reasons for the reversals.  Stephane Dion says the Green Shift will be revenue neutral, but many voters are skeptical. And some parties can promise the world, knowing that they’ll never actually have to form the government and be accountable for those promises (hello Jack & Gilles!).

The Liberal Party’s actions in Adscam betrayed taxpayers’ confidence. There is no shortage of examples where trust in politicians has been eroded.

However, where is the tipping point when a politician’s actions become so indefensible that he or she loses total credibility?

I think we have two examples today. One is Garth Turner who has been exposed by Steve Janke and Stephen Taylor. MSM is quickly catching up on the story.

The other is Elizabeth May, who has been exposed in today’s National Post as a fast-talking bumbler who is digging herself in deeper as she continues to contradict herself regarding the ’stupid Canadians’ fiasco.

In the case of Garth Turner, his actions reflect badly on the Liberal Party and his leader, Stephane Dion.

In the case of Elizabeth May, Stephane Dion is also affected because of his "unofficial alliance" with her.

What will Stephane do? Will he ignore it?

Will Canadian voters ignore it? Or do we cynically accept it as same old, same old?

Update : Wow! Garth has apologized!! H/T to Phantom Observer. How do you think this will play out in his riding (and on CPAC)?

BTW, I seem to be having some technical issues today, which I’m going to have to investigate. Please don’t adjust your set. Thanks.

Afternoon Update: Oh, this is juicy!  Check out Stephen Taylor - Ormiston vs. Turner. So now that’s CPAC and CBC p.o.’d with Turner…

Stephen’s been busy today! Here’s another one - TVO disagrees with Elizabeth May.

And please check out Chuckercanuk - Canvassing Canada. This is not to be missed!!!

More jaw-dropping ineptitude from the ‘Red/Green’ show

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I wonder if Stephane Dion is starting to regret that he hitched his wagon to this train-wreck? The good folks in Central Nova must be scratching their heads - especially in view of the recent in-fighting.

On the other hand, considering his Pakistan-NATO gaffe, perhaps Steffi sees no problem.
