Gendercide in Canada: a clash of values

In today’s National Post, Margaret Somerville explores the effects of sex-selective abortion on society – Focus on the fetus.

I was really hoping she would weigh in on this topic and was not disappointed:

And, cumulatively, abortion decisions have an impact on society and are not just a private matter. This is most clear in sex selection abortion. It’s estimated that there are at least 100 million missing girls in India and China as a result of sex selection abortion and female infanticide. In one Indian study in which 7,000 consecutive abortions were followed, 6,697 were of female fetuses. In some areas of China it’s reported there are 160 young men for every 100 girls. This is harmful to both sexes: Women are devalued, treated as objects, abused and harmed. And men cannot find wives.

In some South Asian societies, females are seen as a financial liability (requiring dowries) whereas males are an asset. So as Kelly MacParland observes in that case, “abortion reduces birth to a question of economics and commerce.”

I’m sure Canadian feminists are tying themselves up in knots trying to rationalize the “rights” of the woman vs. the dehumanization of females.

Canada is a multicultural, immigration-dependent country so this issue is not going to disappear.

Only the unwanted females will.

With this practice, it would take maybe only 1 or 2 generations to completely obliterate the female in these societies so then what? Then what indeed……no more males either.

To be at a stage in Canadian society that we even need to discuss this, the options and parameters is truly frightening. Dr’s that would even consider this procedure need boundaries, yesterday, imo.

It’s pretty tough to have the doctors enforce their own moral restrictions with abortion on demand. The woman could pretend to want it for another reason and likely have no problem obtaining it courtesy of the taxpayer – especially in early stages of gestation. And it’s a no-brainer to find out the gender of the fetus even if the woman’s own doctor refused:

Dr. Shelly Ross, an obstetrician and international liaison for the FMWC, said it is not likely the policy would have any effect on the practice of feticide.

“The rules, at least in B.C., are that we don’t tell them for 20 weeks,” Dr. Ross said. “But I find that in this modern day and age, if we say, ‘No, we’re not going to tell you,’ [the patients] will go out to the private [doctor] and find out themselves.”

And I understand there are kits available too.

  2. If a woman even thinks about having an abortion, then the baby has more right to life than she does,as she has no respect for life or anything else.

  3. To bad the abortioners were not aborted, then there would be no discussion, and the world would be a lot better place.

  4. Liz J says:

Obviously they haven’t thought this through, they’re contributing to wiping themselves out, what then? Will they go outside their races for breeding machines? It may sound harsh but this practice shows no respect for women or humanity. We need to do everything we can to put a stop to this, we can’t count on medical ethics or our health care funding.

  5. Bubba Brown says:

Abortion is in essence a woman’s “right” to decide if another human being, her baby lives or dies.
The countless tales of back street butchers, unwanted children, woman’s right to choose, were the justification for this self chosen genocide.
It is ironic is it not that now the gender that won this “right to choose” is now most at risk.
It is not just the women either the men that demanded and supported this wanted consequence free relations.
At the end of the day “be careful what you wish for” is still true.
I know some will call me a hopeless throwback to a time when women were respected, marriage was a sacrament and children were and are a blessing.
I am totally OK with that.
My family and my wife are everything to me, my children and my grand kids are a wonder and a blessing.
Would that others hearts could change and realize what they are tossing away in the name of choice and convenience and self absorbed vanity and selfishness
Not a single one of us would be here if our own dear Mothers had followed this backwards, chauvinistic belief system. JMO

Many years ago, when abortion first came up, I remember a liberal mp telling us, at a town hall, that abortion would save millions of dollars in the long term. No family allowance (as it was called then) fewer schools, fewer teachers, fewer growing old to receive OAS, health care costs would be decreased with fewer people needed it, and many other stupid reasons to allow abortion. And of course he had charts to show these figures re family allowance for 18 yrs, education, etc. Wish I could remember his name, but he went on to be a cabinet minister. His arguments sure were wrong, wonder what he would say today if he is still around.

O/T,but could someone please tell me…what the H. is NDP leader Turmoil talking about on P&P?? And,the big question is….WHO REALLY CARES? Nice of Evan to feed her talking points too.

  8. Mary T says:

A state in the USA has just passed a law that aborted fetuses can no longer be used to manufacture other products. I imagine a lot of people were unaware this was going on, but it has been for years.

    • Joanne says:

Yeah, I’ve heard of that too. What kind of sick society are we?

      • Liz J says:

        Perhaps sicker than we know!

        • Joanne says:

          Our consciences have become anesthetized.

Only those with a strong stomach should read this from theblaze.com
Oklahoma Legislator Authors Bill Outlawing Use of Aborted Fetuses in Product Manufacturing Industry
This article is just on food industries using parts for flavor enhancements, but the make-up industry also uses these fetuses.
Chiquita bananas are not the only food I will no longer buy.

          • Joanne says:

Oh gross! I have a link here but agree don’t read it unless you have a strong stomach. Is that kind of thing done here?

  9. Mary T says:

I want to know if those fetuses are sold to those companies and do the mothers get anything. Also want to know if those donating organs get paid for them, considering the cost of a transplant. Asking because my brother kept a secret from us for years, and last month received a kidney. He is doing fine.
I wonder if planned parenthood has read that article, or the MP in Canada who is trying to get a debate going on the topic.

Charles Adler has Margaret Somerville on right now.

  11. Liz J says:

Some stuff is too bizarre to believe. Surely there have to be lines that can’t be crossed in the cosmetic and food industry. Using human tissue in food would be bordering on cannibalism.

  12. fh says:

Liz J “too bizarre to believe”
I agree we need to avoid being drawn into the reports unless we have personal knowledge

  14. Liz J says:

So, here we go, the NDP have gone down 3 points, the Liberals have gone up 3 in the latest poll. Expect the Liberals who are stumping for Rae will attribute the rise to his “leadership”.

  15. old white guy says:

we have aborted a large portion of the next generation. we would need a couple of million fewer immigrants if we weren’t killing our unborn children. keep selecting boys over girls and there will soon be no one left to bear the next generation.
