James Traver’s column is very strange today. It is lacking a certain je ne sais quois…
Where is the anger and the venom? Where is the over-the-top pugilistic rhetoric?
Are you feeling o.k. James? Or could it possibly be that you want to work your way out of that Bad rating you received in our media survey?
As to the content – if your source’s allegations are true, we can easily see why PM Harper decided to rid the party of Rahimelena once and for all.

Hmmmm….maybe your “best and worst” column was read under the covers by certain journalists?
Of course, this will be a one day story…followed by demands that spouses should not be allowed to travel with their MP partner and Iggy will come out and admonish the PM for not knowing what the spouses of his MP’s are up to!
After all, it’s not like the PM has anything really important to do???? (sarc off)
It would seem that Mr. Travers has finally figured out that actual news (gasp!) has more legs, pundit-wise, than mere ranting.
I do like that he uses the phrase “justifiably riled.” It suggests a fleeting touch of empathy from Mr. Travers for the PM’s position, and is therefore the closest thing he will permit himself to stating that “Harper was right.”
Mr. Travers’ bit of news also explains the level of vehemence with which the Tories have declared Ms. Guergis persona non grata to their caucus.
Phantom – For some reason your comment got stuck in the spam filter. No idea why.
Yes we can now see that there may indeed have been more behind this than merely Snowdy’s concerns.
Hmmm, curious-er and curious-er! So that is what a proper journalistic effort looks and sounds like?
I am stunned as it’s been so long since we were privilaged enough to enjoy a thoughtful investigative piece that I may just have to take deep breaths and count to ten because of the body shock I am experiencing.
Well done Jim and see, ranting editorializing and slimey innuendoes does NOT a good journalist make…
Must be Travers ‘clone’ who presented such an article because the Travers who appears on television does not seem to repeat what he wrote especially this kind of article.
The same for Taber.
I guess it is the media’ policy that no left wing reporter are allowed to say anything positive on the PM on television.
I felt that as usual HM PM Stephen Harper had this situation, which he or us did not create, or need, well in hand. He did the right thing.
I felt the same way when PM Harper went to Copenhagen. I was confident he would not compromise our Sovereignty over a very thin plot by the U.N. to run the world according to the moonbat theories of Al Gore etc. He did not disappoint me or Canadians. He did the right thing.
Occasionaly one of the “ink stained wretches” agrees with us, nice, but when you have made the best decision you can, their approval is not needed or necessary.
A majority of Canadians are coming to to that point of view, PM Stephen Harper is the best PM we have had in my lifetime, smart, principled, tough when he needs to be. He is a Leader.
This has been a long road for us blue folks looking for an alternative to the status quo Liberal, progressive (regressive) policies. We have been and still are slagged in the press on a daily basis. We can however take a punch and toe the line.
We are communicating with one another here sharing our hopes, keeping a good eye on the competition. I feel the same way reading and posting here as I do when I have something good simmering on the stove. All is right in the world! (pun intentional) Cheers
Travers is a freelance journalist, how can a guy make a living if only the Toronto Star pays for his Harper bashing articles?
Maybe the TS is losing too much market share with Liberal only propaganda. Ah gee…
And what’s with Taber?
Yesterday she called the Cons coalitionn talking points ‘fearmongering’,
today ”Stephen Harper’s lock on lead raises coalition stakes”… get a grip Jane.
PMSH, get things done
OTTAWA – For the first time, Canada’s First Nations will get federal legislation to help improve the quality of drinking water.

Also, no previous government had the courage to create a National Securities Regulator, almost 40 years on the drawing board.
When I got up this morning and clicked on to Travers column, I thought I was still asleep and dreaming at first. I had to re-read it. I thought this can’t be a Travers column, no Harper bashing, no snarky remarks but it WAS a Travers column.
How surprising and refreshing especially coming him. Here’s to hoping it’s the beginning of a new style of reporting from Travers. We can only hope and pray.
good grief – even when the usually left-leaning journalists do something right you make fun and seem not to be grateful for small mercies.
freelancers aren’t paid to be balanced – they’re paid for their opinions and most major papers are aware of their leanings and abilities to ramp up a story to sell papers.
Bubba’s exactly right that despite it all Harper as it turns out did the right thing….again.
Perhaps these same usual suspects and Ignatieff props. are tired of putting themselves out for Iggy and the Libs. and getting a wimpy waffle in return. Now that Iggy’s posed to pass Dion in the “not a leader” territory there’s nothing left to report about on the left….but guaranteed they’ll keep trying.
For me the absolute stunner for me was when Iggy said that he was embarrassed of his adopted Canada. Chucker did a great bit on it. Instead of helping put a great face out there as we host the international communities Iggy wants to drag us down.
Note to Liberals – put Dion back – after having seen Ignatieff, the waffle makes Dion appear almost desirable by comparison.

Who or what are you referring to there Richco?
Look out CANADA! Bob Rae’s going to do to the LPOC what he did to Ontario. He’s always wanted to merge the Libs. and Dippers. I wonder how Iggy will dance around this one? Bring it on Bobby!!
