Are Giambrone’s antics any of our business? Breaking: He quits

Latest breaking news: Giambrone quits.  So I guess it is our business.

Original Post

I find myself siding with National Post’s Chris Selley in the debate regarding whether or not Councillor Adam Giambrone’s indiscretions should be an issue in the Toronto mayoralty race.

Of course it does go to the question of good judgment and character to a certain degree, but as Selley quips:

Mr. Giambrone wasn’t running a morality campaign; indeed, I struggle to think how anyone could run a morality campaign in Toronto.

Exactly.

Plenty of other reasons to reject Giambrone as mayor without suddenly playing the role of self-righteous Puritan, Toronto.

Why alpha men sometimes leave their brains behindMichael Valpy:

To win, alpha men are inclined to take risks and they rarely if ever think they’re going to get caught.

“With the rush of adrenalin and testosterone, the cliché in this case is true, that they think with their d _ _ ks,” said psychotherapist Andre Stein, who specializes in treating men.

Psychiatrist Thomas Verny put it more delicately: “They leave their brains behind and they’re being led by their lower chakras. And they act stupidly.”

(Excellent read.  I wonder if Tiger Woods would fit this pattern.)

Another thought-provoking analysis by Royson James —–> Adam Giambrone should drop out of race.

First, will that lady on his arm keep that blue dress as evidence.
Think of the upside of this guy being your mayor. He could be so busy on the couch he would forget to raise taxes and ban things.
So far as I have heard, sex in the office is still allowed.

  2. Richco says:

The conservative in my says that this looks good on David Miller Lite. Coming as it does after his YouTube Rocky Balboa style announcement of his entry into the Mayor’s race tells me that someone may have been sitting on this until the appropriate moment.

Another side of me says that I don’t really care and as a single guy he’s just doing what guys do…playing the field. I think it’s too bad for his girlfriend that he was such a jerk but this goes on all the time in the dating game these days. Being a live-in doesn’t insure anything at all.

Should it affect his bid for Mayor? I don’t think he has a chance to be honest. With the truck load of conservatives working for Rossi’s campaign no one with lip prints on Miller’s ass will come close winning the Mayor’s seat.

  3. Bec says:

I think his behaviour is creepy and disrespectful but do I think it should determine a mayoralty run or not? No.

The voters can determine that and should they deem him distrustful, a liar, irresponsible, self gratifying and gross, so be it.
Should they find him none of the above, I suspect the voters may reap what they sow.
But then they have a history of that already, don’t they?

it isn’t so much the initial act here… as the cover-up

“Mayoral candidate Adam Giambrone is now admitting he had multiple “intimate” relationships with women other than his long-time partner, and that he initially lied when he told a local newspaper his affair with an aspiring model was limited to illicit text messages and meetings in public places.”

what else is he gonna lie about?

  5. Jenny says:

Snooty and judgemental 905ers who look down their noses at Toronto have absolutely NO business passing judgement on Toronto politics. When you start to contribute something to the conservation besides absurd generalizations, then you can make suggestions about how we run our beloved city.

Pride is an annual event. Believe it or not, most of the year we don’t see naked men walking the streets.

  6. NeilD says:

I was never lucky enough to have multiple relationships at any one time when I was single (except for that brief period in….well, never mind) so as far as the testosterone angle is concerned I say good for him.
However, the lying part is what gets me and for that reason alone I think he should be toast.
The only reason this is an issue is because of how he lied to girlfriend number two about his relationship with the girlfriend seen on his arm in so many photos.
The one he was living with.

All of these other relationships are now being admitted to because he’s been caught.

I happen to be the monogamous sort who believes that if you’ve committed to living with a partner of the opposite sex (or whatever, there’s nothing wrong with that) then that committment is the same as being married and your partner is the only one you should be true to.

Would the citizens of Toronto like it if young Adam is elected as their Mayor and then starts doing administrative work on the side in Mississauga?

So why is it allowed just then?

  9. Ruth says:

I am not a snooty 905er and if any one of us walked down our streets with no clothes, we would be arrested. The Pride parade does not help the image of Toronto one little bit, and anyone naked should be arrested that day, the same as any other day. Like any movie, it should be rated so kids aren’t allowed.

  11. MaryT says:

It is nice to know that Torontoians only have pride in their city once a year. Most citizens of cities have pride all year round.

Headline at Bourque -ADAM has withdrawn from race.
Just have to wait for all those others to come forward and say, hey, I slept with Adam.
It never ceases to amaze me that girls/women can’t wait to get their 15 minutes of fame by admitting they sleep around.

  14. Richco says:

Jenny – as a born and bred Torontonian I have to say that I’m ashamed of what’s become of the city I knew. Your entitled attitude is one of the reasons why I left long ago and have been back only a handful of times.

If so much of what happened in Toronto wasn’t reported on or ripple-effected to the rest of the province you’d be justified in telling us to mind our own business.

From your board of education to your municipal government – total dysfunction viewed by millions and yes, discussed. Don’t like it. Too bad.

  15. jad says:

Perhaps Jenny, or anyone else can explain to me why Canada’s largest city, the epitome of Canadian cool, the centre of the universe etc. can only ever manage to find dinks or losers to run for mayor.

Full disclosure: I am not a snotty 905-er, I am an even snottier West Coaster.

  16. Joanne says:

Yeah thanks Mary T! I just heard about it myself and added a breaking update.

“jenny snootily pronounces… Believe it or not, most of the year we don’t see naked men walking the streets.”

well, jen… way to set the bar.

call me wacky, but out here in the sticks (hastings county)… that type of behaviour would get you in a wee spot of trouble with the constabulary & citizenry both.

good ol’ liberal-minded hogtown… special rules for “special people”, huh?

    *

  19. Joe says:

Taking a rather broad brush here but has anyone ever noticed how ‘bending the rules’ always results in poverty, crime, violence unemployment etc? As infidelity, perversion, lying, cheating, stealing becomes accepted and normalized the other societal problems become more and more endemic.

  20. Joanne says:

Best line comes from Howard Moscoe: ‘‘I’m not sure there are many single males in this city who could have their hormones closely examined.’’

Yeah but not too many of them were running for mayor.

Now let’s see what the cocaine addict has been up to.

Dillon, what are you talking about before I approve your comment?

ah, the venerable “all the other guys are doing it” defense.

i bet that’s not what they say to their wives/girlfriends.

  24. dillon says:

Mrs Smitherman stated that he was a user when he was in Cabinet. He claims he has quit the habit. What’s the real story? Whatever his husband does is his business unless it involved minors.

  25. Joanne says:

I’m still having trouble seeing your point Dillon, but I’m exhausted from a painting project that’s not going very well so please excuse my lack of comprehension.

Where’s Mike Holmes when you need him? ;)

2.Youall love “the fiercest snowstorm in generations”?
3.Youall want ““extremely dangerous” blizzard conditions”?
    4. All of the above?
    …-

“Baltimore issues call to contractors for snow removal help (FEMA offices in DC, Philly closed)

With Marylanders battling the fiercest snowstorm in generations, Baltimore officials have called on local businesses to help deal with snowfall that is choking roadways and confining city residents to their homes.

The National Weather Service warned Wednesday of “extremely dangerous” blizzard conditions in the Baltimore region, and as of 1 p.m., the seasonal snowfall totaled 72.3 inches at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. That’s the most since record-keeping began in Baltimore in 1893. The previous record, from 1995-96, was 62.5 inches.”

apparently mr giam-boner is dealing with more than fidelity issues…

“Sherman, 31, says the councillor and TTC chairman told him
he was bisexual, then asked him to dinner at Il Fornello on
    Yonge St.”

  32. Joanne says:

Well being a bi would have upped his profile as a Mayoralty candidate in Toronto. Too bad for him that he blew it with all the lies and deceit.
