Cue the outrage!!

Where are those Facebook groups? How about the rallies?

I’m looking forward to reading the endless editorials taking Dalton to task.

Yeah right.

Wednesday Update

McGuinty prorogues legislature – Citizen:

Last week, McGuinty suggested the criticism Harper has received over prorogation prompted him to think carefully about any such decision on his part.

“I think it’s kind of lent it a different complexion,” he said. “Prorogation has been an important and respected parliamentary tool for centuries. But it’s important that you don’t abuse that.”

And of course the word ‘abuse’ is in the eye of the observer. Liberals never ‘abuse’ anything. Right?

Liberals good. Conservatives bad.  Right, MSM???

Proroguing under the radarAdam Radwanski:

But mostly, it will allow Mr. McGuinty to get that Throne Speech off his chest.

He could have done that next week by proroguing the legislature now. But the Liberals say they want the speech to get lots of attention, and don’t think that will be possible until the Olympics and the federal budget are over and done with

Oh gee. I thought it was because he was so honourable and everything.  Who knew it was all about strategy?

And Sandy just put up a great post – McGuinty Liberal gov’t prorogation different?

… and he even has a majority !!!

I won’t hold my breath waiting for the Lberal-Cheerleader-MSM to denounce it or for a rabid Facebook tirade to begin.

  2. Liz J says:

We await the demos in the streets across the province….oh wait, he’s a Liberal, this is different, when it comes to equality, Liberals are more equal than Conservatives.

  3. fh says:

Dalton said ” required by law ”

  4. Jen says:

He is a ‘LIBERAL’ darling Joanne, and liberals fear nothing as long as the Kady O MALLEYS, Traverse CBC CTV etc are around. Nor can any of them can accuse him because Dalton will waste no time telling them about the chretein martins even rae’s own prorogation.
All of this will go under the carpet.

  5. Bec says:

Me too! Kady, whhheeerrreee Aaaarrreee Yoooouuu?
Tommy, Craig, Giggles, Kinsella, IGNATIEFF, brother Davey boy, what say you, juveniles?

Sheeesh, what a joke these so called journalists and politicians are but frankly, Dalton can legitimately do this AS COULD the Prime Minister.

Cue, Gayle, Ted and Team Troll.

  6. billonlogan says:

I set up a Facebook page last weekend when I heard the news and nobody bothered to join the group. The group is called “Stop McGuinty Prorogue of Ontario Legislature on February 16, 2010″. McGuinty should not get away easily, but he will.

  7. MaryT says:

If there is no outrage or endless editorials, it will certainly show that prorogation is not the evil the media tried to make it. And it might wake up a lot of Canadians who were duped with their so called outrage. We have to make sure that all parts of Canada know about this.
Now, if there is any coverage of the prorogation we can say, they are talking about Dalton.

  8. Bec says:

BTW, you do know that you are not yet up on the main agregate as BLY, don’t you? Both today have been incorrect.

BTW, you do know that you are not yet up on the main agregate as BLY, don’t you? Both today have been incorrect

Yeah thanks Bec. I have an email in to Stephen Taylor with no reply to date. Maybe I’ll try twitter. Heh.

  9. Bert says:

It’s only wrong if Conservatives do it.

  10. Richco says:

perhaps our facebook group needs a gimmick? You know, something to rival the onion ring/Harper attempt?

Who would you most support? McGunity or Bec’s cake? I’ll be making it for my family on Valentine’s Day Sunday. I hope it’s not too easy to mess up Bec. Baking’s not really my thing but……

  11. Bec says:

    Ha ha Richco @ 4:37pm
One is easy and rewarding and one is sleazy and rewarded!

  12. Roy Eappen says:

That is funny. I hadn’t read you post yet. I just got home and saw what dalton did. Great minds think alike? I guess our trolls will say fools seldom differ. lol. Loved your post!

  13. Richco says:

O/T – Bec – how long ahead can I freeze?

I love how Dalton just keeps on helping Harper out. The Waffle’s not going to be too happy about this. I wonder how many Ontario MPs we’ll hear from outraged about this?

I really hope that Ontario PCs at the very least say something in response.

  14. Bec says:

    Richco @ 4:52 pm

A max of 2 weeks or the day before but in the individual ramekins. I prefer them pre frozen….

  16. Doug says:

    This just in, too…

“When I see a Dalton McGuinty get up in the teeth of prorogation by a Conservative government, in the teeth of massive protests, and commit to prorogue the parliament of Ontario, I am proud to be a Liberal,” he told the crowd.

  17. Did his mommy give him the okay?

  18. Springer says:

Thank you, Dalton. Your timing is exquisite.

Now we shall be able to compare reaction within and without the MSM to a Liberal prorogation and compare it to that expressed when a Conservative prorogues.

I fully expect that none of the usual suspects will give a rat’s unowhat about the Liberal one.

Just call it a hunch, eh?

  19. Bec says:

    Springer @ 6:38pm

THEY are already out in full force on the G&M comments. Complete rationalization, it’s astonishing! These people put the “Zzzzz” in SleaZe!

  20. I contacted my friend for low carbon “tar” from AB and went to Iffy’s to get some feathers, when are we getting the lynch mob to tar and feather Dalton?

  21. Calgary Junkie says:

“But he said he will prorogue the legislative session briefly before starting a new one after the Vancouver Olympics with a speech from throne.”

The Ont Legislature was scheduled to resume Feb 16th.
link So, “briefly” means at least 9 sitting days, to Mar 1st (the Monday after the Olympics)

But I can almost guarantee that McSlippery will want to wait until AFTER Flaherty’s budget, AND the House votes, AND the public reaction to the budget, before making hard decisions on the Ont budget.

So we will have to wait and see how many sitting days the Ont Legislature will have lost lost and compare to the 22 sitting days that PM Harper lost.

An inquiring reporter might wonder why McSlippery DOESN’T YET KNOW the exact date when his Throne Speech will be read, and ask for an explanation.

  22. Sandy says:

Joanne — I have completely removed the “Harper Government Record” header page. I don’t know why it would have made any difference because the link was to Crux of the Matter now. But, it was linked to the domain “Harper Government Record” at one time so I couldn’t think of anything else to do. Maybe you can do a “test” post later this evening and see what happens when it goes on the BT aggregator.

If that doesn’t work, we’ll have to wait on Stephen Taylor’s expertise.

“Secrecy shrouds controversial bailout for ‘green’ wind farm

BC Hydro mulls more green power and, perhaps, dam-building

Energy Minister Blair Lekstrom is defending the controversial bailout of a troubled wind farm near Chetwynd in his Peace River South constituency.

“I was happy that we were able to move this forward,” said Lekstrom. “When it was under, it left a lot of people [in a tough spot] and a lot of money owing to a lot of businesses in the region.”

BC Hydro signed an energy purchase agreement with the private developer of the proposed wind farm at Dokie Ridge as part of a call for “green energy” projects back in 2006.

But work on the 144-megawatt first phase was halted during the global financial meltdown in the fall of 2008, amid rising construction costs and a consultant’s report that questioned the reliability of the site as a source of wind power.

Dokie was reactivated last fall, after being taken over by GE Financial Services and Plutonic Power, two firms that were already active in building independent power projects in B.C. However, they only agreed to step in after successfully persuading BC Hydro to sweeten the power purchase contract for the project.”

Brockville, Ont.–It is back to work next week for Ontario MPPs, but Premier Dalton McGuinty will briefly prorogue the House after the Olympics so the Liberals can introduce a throne speech.”

  29. Joanne says:

Yeah Sandy! Thanks. That seems to have been the fix.

  30. Liz J says:

Everything Dalty does is just ducky, scandals and lies just roll off him like water off a duck. Liberal scandals never tweak the interest of the media, if they do it’s short lived like E-Health.

Given he has a majority and keeps on winning the by-elections he can keep on truckin’. The opposition will have to smarten up, as will the voters.

  31. Alberta Girl says:

We here in Alberta just had a throne speech – i guess Ed prorogued and the media forgot to tell us in their rush to smear Stephen Harper.

  33. MaryT says:

When did Dalton break for Christmas holiday, wasn’t it the same day the Federal govt did, and has the Ont Legislature sat since then, no, and hasn’t Dalton followed PMSH by proroguing during said break.
Maybe all the media and that fb page were wrong, and all the protests were against Dalton, and not the PM.
Strange all the prorogations of Provincial govt during the same time period was missed by the media.
And perhaps that is why the PM did it, few Provincial govts were in session. Regardless, it will not turn into a big election issue as we can counter with, where was Dalton, or Campbell, or Stelmach during this period. And where was iffy/layton/goodale.
No one was minding the store anywhere.
OT, but will be watching for Iggy at the women’s curling during the Olympics. And he better have paid his own way, but guess he has a VIP pass for venues.

  34. MaryT says:

OT again, but just heard on Fox that 900 million is being spent on security for the games by Canada. On top of that there is increased staff, inspections and cameras at US border stations, and same at Canadian stations. The US has cameras set up at various sites, and they are beamed right back to a a site in the USA with 24/7 security people.
Those protesters better be very careful and security is not taking any chances.

Also, two govenors have shut down several interstate highways, due to weather. 63% of the USA is covered with snow.
With massive power outages, wonder how those electric cars are making out. Some cities have stopped plowing as it is too dangerous.
Wonder what effect this will have on visitors from the US to the opening ceremonies tomorrow.

  35. fh says:

conservatives and it now appears Liberals Dalton approve prorogation
as Dalton said “required by law ”

  36. Erwin says:

Lisa MacLeod, Tory MPP, also brought up the two by elections and suggested Dalton may even prorogue his way right through the by elections as to not have to answer tough questions on his record and his two “key ridings” are allowed to run virtually unchallendged.
