Abortion – Just another method of contraception

As B.C. Blue points out, Mr. Iffy’s really stuck his foot in it this time.

The National Post editorial board writes in Planned Propaganda:

Mr. Ignatieff is staking out an absolutist pro-abortion ideology beyond any taken previously by his party. Even most pro-choice advocates stop short of casually lumping abortion in as just another uncontroversial “contraceptive method,” as Mr. Ignatieff appears to have done.

What’s worse, Mr. Ignatieff insists that the government hard-wire this view into its foreign aid initiatives, such as Mr. Harper’s recent proposal for G8 countries to increase support for health programs for women and children in the poorest countries. Would an Ignatieff government cancel aid to those countries which, for religious or cultural reasons, are opposed to abortion? Will Canadian social assistance to Afghanistan or Gaza be withheld until women there can prove they’ve adopted fashionable Liberal attitudes on the question of when life begins?

Even one of his own caucus members seems astounded (from Kevin Libin’s column):

…Keith Martin, a Liberal MP, physician, and opposition critic for health promotion, points out that in some countries, abortion isn’t tolerated, legally or culturally. About 80,000 women die every year worldwide from unsafe abortions, he said, while hundreds of thousands die every year during childbirth, and 10 times that many sustain permanent injuries and disabilities after unsafe deliveries. There are many simple and cheap ways, Dr. Martin said, to help mothers worldwide, from iron supplements to providing power that allows refrigerated medicines. “It would be a shame if the debate about abortion hijacks the larger issue of what we can do very simply to enable pregnant women to be able to deliver [babies] safely.”

Well if the debate is hijacked, you can blame your arrogant leader for that, Mr. Martin.

Or should we blame Peter Donolo?

Common ground on abortion – Theo Caldwell, Post:

…Meanwhile in this country, a recent Angus Reid poll finds that only one in five Canadians is aware that our abortion law (or lack thereof) permits a woman to have unrestricted access to abortion at any time during her pregnancy. Contrary to the received wisdom about Canadians’ social attitudes, the poll found that “respondents are almost evenly divided on whether the health care system should fund abortions whenever they are requested.”

Persichilli: Don’t blame the Bloc for minority governments – Star:

…The problem for the Liberals is lack of leadership. The leader is the icon of a political organization, and Canadians didn’t like what they saw in Paul Martin and Stéphane Dion – and by now they also know that Michael Ignatieff is like his two predecessors: an empty shell. The Liberals again are trying to draw a line between themselves and the Conservatives by proposing a child-care program, without saying how they would pay for it, and by rehashing old debates, such as about abortion, which the Conservatives have accepted in Canada. Now the Liberals want Harper also to commit to paying for abortions for women in Uganda…

More foot in mouth disease for MR Iggy. From the Lethbridge Herald, Canadian Press, Ottawa.
    Ignatieff comments rile leaders.
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff has ruffled diplomatic fathers with his suggestion that Canadian aid money shouldn’t be going to “crooks” or “warlords” running Afghanistan’s government.
Jawed Ludin, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Canada issued a statement Wednesday rebuking Ignatieff for his “unjustified” characterization of the Afghan government as corrupt and illegitimate.
Whatever its democratic deficiencies, Ludin said almost no foreign aid is channelled through the Afghan government in any event.
Ludin was responding to remarks Ignatieff made a day earlier during a Liberal sponsored roundtble discussion on foreign aid and development assistance.
The Liberal leader said Canada has to get “tough” with aid receiving countries whose governments aren’t accountable for hot the money is spent. And he pointed to Afghanistanm the largest recipient of Canadian aid, to underline his point.
“We’re dealing with a government who’s stolen an election,” he the roundtable.
While he’s “strongly in favour” of continuing the flow of aid money to Afghanistan, Ignatieff said the Afghan government must be more accountable.

Too bad he doesn’t apply those same rules to the liberal party re adscam, or trying to steal the government a year ago.

Why is Liberal Iffy pushing abortion?

The Separatist Coalition’s Troika are nihilist socialists.

Abortion is their reign of terror.

Here is what the plan/plot of the Separatist Coalition is aiming for:

    Caesarian Socialism.

“it outdoes everything in the past by striving for the downright destruction of the individual, who it sees as an unauthorized luxury of nature, and who it intends to improve into a useful organ of the community.”

“Socialism is the visionary younger brother of an almost decrepit despotism, whose heir it wants to be; thus its efforts are reactionary in the deepest sense. For it desires an abundance of executive power, as only despotism has ever had; indeed, it outdoes everything in the past by striving for the downright destruction of the individual, who it sees as an unauthorized luxury of nature, and who it intends to improve into a useful organ of the community. It crops up in the vicinity of all excessive displays of power because of its relation to it, like the typical old socialist Plato, at the court of the Sicilian tyrant; it desires (and in certain circumstances, furthers) the Caesarean power state of this century, because, as we said, it would like to be its heir. But even this inheritance would not suffice for its purposes, it needs the most submissive subjugation of all citizens to the absolute state, the like of which has never existed; and since it cannot even count any longer on the old religious piety towards the state, having rather always to work automatically to eliminate piety—because it works on the elimination of all existing states—, it can only hope to exist here and there for short periods of time by means of the most extreme terrorism.

Therefore, it secretly prepares for reigns of terror, and drives the word “justice” like a nail into the heads of the half-educated masses, to rob them completely of their reason (after this reason has already suffered a great deal from its half-education), and to create in them a good conscience for the evil game that they are to play.

Socialism can serve as a rather brutal and forceful way to teach the danger of all accumulations of state power, and to that extent instill one with distrust of the state itself.

When its harsh voice chimes in with the battle cry “as much state as possible,” it will at first make the cry noisier than ever; but soon the opposite cry will be heard with strength the greater: “as little state as possible.”

    (Nietzsche)

  7. MaryT says:

Keith Martin has some of his stats wrong, according to google and -abortion deaths by country, – as a start. In a country with restrictions on abortions, it is considered an unsafe abortion even if preformed in a hospital or state of the art clinic. A lot of the deaths are the result of the abortionist doing something wrong.

So we just need him promising more big ticket items. Then put the video clips together in an “Iggy will bankrupt the nation” tv ad. Have a cash register ringing up the billions in costs.

  26. Bubba Brown says:

Mr Ignatieff has foot in mouth syndrome? You are bein’ way too kind MaryT I would suggest more like “head in profound orifice” hmmm must tickle when he “waggles” his eyebrows…. anyway I am proud when our aid to a sad very poor country arrives at the speed of “Conservative Light” much better than when Mr Dithers rode around in a helicopter gawkin’ at the devastation in Sri Lanka, I don’t think that accomplished much Paulie. You didn’t accomplish anything in Canada either.
I don’t think that I or most other Canadians would be “Proud” if the first thing on the beach was a “stand alone abortion-atrium” sickening really you should be ashamed Mr Ignatieff, really ashamed.
As for the polls I think they don’t really reflect reality among ordinary workin’ Canadians, If the cabal thinks they do, assuming I am WRONG, well go ahead and “pull the Trigger”, “roll the dice” or whatever Harvardites do, the phonies in the media are onside, they gifted Obummer to America another educated way beyond his intelligence “Harvardite” hows that workin’ for America? The act known as the Coalition of Stooges continually waits in the wings. It is no longer any surprise, nor is there any gleeful anticipation to watch Mr. Igneutiev pull the White Rabbit (X Dipper Rae) out of his hat. It doesn’t matter the roles of the other sub-characters. It is a rerun nobody looks forward to. May and Duceppe balance out the Marxist Brothers’ quartet, but this extremism would do better to ‘exit – Stage Left’ before the real discombobulation (Am I sounding like Bubba, or Slip Mahoney here?) of our precious and precarious Canadian cultural equilibrium causes a dizzy spell. If such instability and disunity persists, there could be an ultimate fallout whereby the United States would have us absorbed and annexed by the time the bicentennial of our last successful defense of this great nation took place. Never say never.

  28. Liz J says:

If Mr Iffy has been advised by Donolo to raise abortion as a wedge issue, Iffy’s the one who got the wedgie, let the Liberals duke it out amongst themselves, the Conservatives should ignore it, don’t play into their hands, it’s his to deal with, doubt he’s capable with or without his puppeteer.

  29. Joanne says:

Liz – Good point. Many folks in his own caucus are very upset about Mr. Iffy bringing this up.

  30. MaryT says:

Fox news is giving a lot of coverage to the prolife ad running during the Super Bowl. Why are the pro abortion groups so afraid of one 30 second ad. Do they think that will turn everyone into a prolife supporter. And, the latest polling in the US shows that the pro abortion lobby is losing support, as it is now 50-50, for and against.
Funny that media wont run the above ad, but will run any anti PMSH thing that comes along.
I just wish that those contemplating abortion were given the true facts-you are pregnant and your body is making preparations to give birth, you can have your abortion, but your body will again undergo changes and you can never get your body back to the way it was before the pregnancy. And those chances could cause you problems in about 20 years.

  31. Joanne says:

Mary T – I wonder if Mr. Iffy will be asking PM Harper to make sure those Third World women are advised of all the facts.

  32. MaryT says:

I am amazed at how many harperphopes are denying that Mr Iggy is suggesting funding abortion outside of Canada.
I take that to mean they are afraid he has stepped into it big time. Could we see some lib MPs leave his caucus over this.
OT, but any news of Danny, he was to have his operation yesterday I think.

  33. Bubba Brown says:

Just another “howlin’ monstrosity” of a Liberal policy all dressed as progress, women’s rights, social justice, green shifts, red books no one pays any attention to after the election… Meanwhile the porogie pile-on continues. I think I have seen this movie before. Ekos honcho is a regular on Solomons show? Now there’s a surprise/ sarc off/ should we be concerned? I think Canada has more to offer the world than Liberal Values, which seem to be whatever the leader says they are on any given day.
What a truth ad this would make The Liberal “Leader is workin’ his way through the Alphabet he is currently on the “A”‘s Abortion and Asbestos.

When is someone going to expose this sham?

  35. MaryT says:

Adler on about National Day Care, seems it has been around since PET brought it up in 1970. I did not know that it costs about 800.00 per month for childcare, so how much money does a mother have to make to have any money left after paying such costs.
Wouldn’t those with low incomes, and an earning spouse be better off to stay home, be declared as a dependant and increase the spouses refund, increase gst rebates, and a few other benefits. And childcare expenses are only deductible from the lower income earner. Many women have child care for a lot less than 800.00/month, so why deny them that options.
Unionized daycare workers, what happens when they strike.

  36. Liz J says:

In Ontario we have close to national day care, all day kindergarten. The only way the Feds should get involved is by giving tax breaks and allowing families to do what’s best for their specific situations.

One thing we know about Liberals, especially on issues like childcare and Native affairs, they’re good at promising, not so good at delivering. Sometimes the promises drag on until election time and they’ll hurriedly put something forward. The Kelowna accord as an example.

  37. simon says:

Perhaps Kelowna Right To Life should consider taking CHBC and Global to the Cdn Human Rights Zooplanktons and file an HR claim for breach of their agreement, hurt feelings, oppression, censorship…loss of sleep etc.

Actually,I’m quite serious…I’m sure there’s a bonafide case in here somewhere and it would be a good test case with all the right elements for a protracted run in the (dare I say it)..the MSM!
The cost should be taxpayer covered for the plaintiff (I have no problem with this as regards this particular case) and it is after all a timely case seeing as how the desperate Professor Disingenuous and his slimy war room clerk ‘Donut’ have decided to polarize the nation with the resurection of this tired political petard.

And besides,I seem to recall an Ontario print shop owner being dragged before the OHRC ten years back for not wishing to print what was against his personal beliefs.

There are many more cases as we all know, but I’d support this one as it is not frivolous.
    Its an important societal issue.
