I’ll have to pick my jaw up off the floor before offering much on Angelo Persichilli’s column this morning (H/T NNW and Maz2) – Liberal MPs plot early retirement for Ignatieff.
Michael Ignatieff is going down. It’s just a matter of when and how.
More after I gather my thoughts.
* * * *
Ten minutes later
O.K. Here is my first set of questions: Wasn’t Peter Donolo sent in there to fix all that was wrong with the Liberal Party? If so, does that include sending Iffy back to Harvard?
But doesn’t Iffy deserve one kick at the election can before he is jettisoned from the leadership role?

Update:
Big thank you to LibVin who supplied us with a link to Glen Pearson’s blog. Glen denies the allegations – Wounded In The House of Friends.
Whew!
Calgary Liberal has his own post up now – Am I agonizing over Angelo? I hope he’s right.
Lots more links available in comments here and at National Newswatch. For a non-story it sure is getting a lot of attention.
Don’t miss ChuckerCanuk – An Iggynomius Weekend.
Welcome Jack’s Newswatch readers!

Well, I can’t say I didn’t see this coming.
But to hear it from the Star……….WOW
Pft.
Persichilli’s opinion piece is entirely baseless. Glen Pearson, someone who was at the engagement, refutes everything the journo says. http://glenpearson.wordpress.com/2009/12/06/wounded-in-the-house-of-friends/
Not impressed.
From the sounds of things, the liberal knifes were never put away. Iggy must be pulling his hair out.
Check it out, the rebellion has started at the Lib blogs
http://nextface.blogspot.com/2009/12/if-at-first-you-dont-succeed.html
Libvin, thanks for that link! I have to admit that I am puzzled. Persichilli is one of the few journalists that I respect. If he didn’t do due diligence in verifying the story then I am truly disappointed in him.
On the other hand, if the Liberal Party is truly behind Iffy, I can’t think of a better outcome.
I’m not worried about it, Joanne. Nor am I puzzled.
Carolyne Bennett, et al, are making noise on Twitter saying that they aren’t doing anything.
Susan Riley and Jennifer Ditchburn on cbc’s politics panel now discussing this.Riley promoting Boob Rae..”quick wit’ and his ‘comedic’ talent. They say this column means more trouble for Iffy…they seem to put more stock in the Persichilli piece, than the Pearson one.Nancy (uh uh) Wilson has to get the obligatory ‘Harper got slammed” in China dig in.but over all,the girls on the panel think PMSH did well! that must pi** off the cbc!Interesting,Riley mentions that Chretien must have been ‘whispering’ in Iggy’s ear on what to say about PMSH’s trip to China!
Wonder how the Owl and Giggles will spin all the good news out of the China trip on QP today??
Noooooo…don’t go Iggy…..
AG, I agree. Especially with Bob Rae’s links to Power Corp.
I also read Pearson article and I have a problem with it. Iffy would be crazy to let Bob Rae have some more exposure and any liberal to even suggest this is not thinking in the best interest for their leader. Iffy is a fool and to give Rae more responsibility would only make him look more foolish.
Interesting bit for you..O/T but adds to the somber note of PMSH’s trip to visit the cemetary where Canadian veterans are buried.I just read over at David Aikins blog (on the side where he posts his Twitter feed) that Stockwell Day ( who is travelling with PMSH) has a Grandad buried there.Must be tremendously moving and emotional trip for Min.Day.
BTW,how are all the Albertan’s that visit here enjoying all the ‘global warming’ taking place in your beautiful province??? Seriously,I hope you are all remaining safe and warm.
The latest chess move by our PM re the HST may well have been the last straw for Iggy, it’s widened the divide in the party.
There are a few twits n the Liberal ranks they would do well to silence, Bennett, Fry, Holland,Jennings,Dosanjh for starters. Is that not something Donolo should attend to?
Has anyone noticed a slight change in the demeanor of Giggles Taber filling in for Clark on PP last week? Wasn’t she a bit more balanced? Could we who have been letting CTV know we are onto them take credit for that?
Liz,re the Taber comment.. I wonder,if there were some complaints,as her childish giggling was getting to be really annoying..and VERY unprofessional. Her snotty comments as well about PMSH getting put down by the Chinese were petty and diminished her in my eyes.
“BTW,how are all the Albertan’s that visit here enjoying all the ‘global warming’ taking place in your beautiful province??? Seriously,I hope you are all remaining safe and warm.”
AH yes – that global warming dust was blowing so hard that we have drifts of it =- and to think that a week ago – it was plus 15 here in southern AB and as of Friday evening at 9 pm, we had not a spec of it (although many, many other places in AB were getting buried in the stuff).
Gotta LOVE Global Warm…er Climate Change, huh
[...] says one thing and Glen Pearson says another. Susan Delacourt gives the easy, gut reaction. Joanne at bluelikeyou.com makes the quick, easy, and simple calculation that “Ignatieff is going down”. Is there a [...]
It’s all good for the PM Joanne!
If The Waffle stays on the sinking of the S.S. Minnow continues taking Ginger, the Professor and Gilligan with it. A VERY Merry Christmas for Stephen Harper.
If Bob Rae pulls a puffin poop on Ignatieff, the PM also wins, because with Rae STILL the choice of the “Toronto Old Boys” the Liberals will NEVER, EVER win Ontario. No how…No way.
It’s all good for the PM and as we slide on into the Christmas season we as a nation have every reason to go into 2010 with confidence.
That the tide and sentiments are turning on the Global Warming farce should be reason enough to celebrate, but that the PM and his gov’t have steered us smartly out of the recession(or so it appears) we have little to whine about.
Let the LPOC do cry in the beer and popcorn because the media that were helping them are turning on them too. One by one….but turning nevertheless.
That the PM is doing well despite the usually biased suspects on Power Play(a shitty name for a politicial show if you ask me), and the CBC. That tells me that no one is really listening to the bias. Well, ALMOST no one:-)
I’ve also looked at Glen Pearson’s post. I’m not calling him a liar, and I believe his denial that he never talked to Persichilli, but it doesn’t preclude the possibility of third-hand information (either Dhalla or Rae telling X who then told Persichilli).
It’s useful to remember that Persichilli is a pundit, not a reporter. Pundits usually get into trouble whenever they rely on single-sources for their stories; it wasn’t all that long ago that a Toronto Star reporter was forced to backtrack on a story because of said practice (remember <a href="http://phantomobserver.com/blog/?p=2288"Alykhan Velshi?). Persichilli should certainly have been aware of it; so there should be something substantive there.
I just read Angelo Persichilli’s candid review of the Liebrals’ deliemma in this morning’s Red Star tree edition. Certainly they are “up against it” and I do not believe any singular saviour could cause any uptick in their chart this time. X-Dipper-Ray is just another has-been with no compass and no foundational reference. They’ve got nobody, they have no platform, and therefore no viable alternative to the existing government, which, by the way, is championing the causes of most Canadians in an unprecedented and monumental fashion under the leadership of Stephen Harper. So, as we’ve been declaring for months, we now confirm that the Igneutered One has attained the peak of his political impotency, and is retrofitted for that studless pasture of eggheaded academics from whence he came. Whoever “succeeds him” will fair no better with a Canadian votership which is more mature and enlightened re. the LPC’s deceptive lack of substance and the reality of competent, representative leadership.
“David McGuinty, Justin Trudeau and others are already planning their leadership runs”
LOL
It just gets better and better.
When Iffy goes they’re going to swoon over Bob Rae and then they’re going to lose Ontario.
I love it!
David McGuinty? That’s one big joke. Justin Trudeau is running on the Trudeau factor, he’s Junior Trudeau and far, far away from being ready to lead a party let alone run the country.
They’re between a rock and a hard place with Dipper Rae who will not be too amused if he isn’t the next in line to lead the party. Let’s say, for the foreseeable future they’re the Rock and Hard Place Party.
If there is no snow in Ontario, then what is that white stuff that has been covering the ground all month around here.
In other news, the Liberals are in a no win situation with Iffy. Canadians have seen enough of him that there perception of his suitability to lead the country is not going to change. There is more than enough material available to the war room to remind people of the reasons for their impressions.
Pushing Iffy out the door would make the party look like fools and backstabbers. This is not a good combination when you expect them to vote for you. A resignation by Iffy would just seem like he jumped before being pushed. Whoever will win the leadership if Iffy is gone before the next election is going to suspected of leading a palace coup.
The Liberals can always cosole themselves that it just can not get any worse under the next leader. Mmm, that’s what they said last time.
” Wasn’t Peter Donolo sent in there to fix all that was wrong with the Liberal Party?”
Actually, it makes more sense now. Rid the OLO of those loyal to Iffy and replace them with the PowerCorp boys of Rae and Chretien who undermine Iffy from within. And when you think of it, Iffy’s coronation was achieved through the same method, undermining Dion from within.
The only other scenario I can see plausible is that Ignatieff is even to arrogant for the Liberals. And that’s saying something.
The Libs are stuck in the Seventies. Looking for a Trudeauesque leader to lead them to the promised land.
Problem is that Trudeau really wasn’t well liked by Canadians once we got past Trudeaumania.
First, how did all those protesters get to Denmark, swim.
Just had some female on to give her take on what she would tell the PM.
Susan Rilely, yikes what a way to wake up, but she surprised me, as she agreed the Chinese trip was a success for our side.
Re that global warming, we could use those twins, our car is buried in our driveway, and it’s a covered driveway.
Wonder how all those electric cars are managing or those very small cars.
It appears that liberals have a new years resolution, dump iggy.
I never realized that PET is the last lib leader to leave (and return) on his own. The rest have all been dumped. What is the definintion of insanity, doing the same thing over a over and expecting a different result.
Stay warm everyone and watch for fossil awards from Denmark.
The very fact that they would consider Bob Rae as the best man to replace Ignatief speaks volumes about the decline of the party, its values, reason and morals. Anyone who survived Rae’s tenure in Ontario knows what a disaster he is.
How the mighty have fallen.
Good riddance.
OT, but Lorrie has a great article on how to survive the 12 days of Denmark. -NNW-
It is time for the liberals to wake up to the fact that no leader they choose is going to get 154 liberals elected on their coattails.
Instead of a new leader, they should face themselves in a mirror and say, am I the problem. Have I been here too long, can I bring other MPs from my province. Iggy should tell them, I will not sign your nomination papers, so resign with some honor. We don’t need another Copps fiasco.
Gee, all this advise for free, but they wont take it. Can one imagine Ralph to quit. Or Hedy, Bennett, Bison. No way, so keep on trucking and lose another 30 seats.
My advice to Iggy:
If you rent a U-Haul in the middle of the month, you get a better deal.
Owl Oliver just gloating over the ‘upbraiding’ PMSH took in China! Has a stupid smirk on his face,as he implies PMSH sacrificed his values for the ‘almighty dollar’ Interviewing Jason Kenney now,and the Owl scolds him for comment he made in past about the ‘butchers of Bejing’..Jason givin’ it to Owl over Lib hypocrisy, and ‘not getting the job done’Oh Lord..now they run the clip of Iggy mocking PMSH,and BAM,Jason hits back hard for Iggy slamming PMSH,and OUR country.
…
Yup !
The rats are a scurrying!
The snakes are a slithering!
The vultures are a circling!
And I’m a smiling!
The Liberals problem is that they don’t stand for anything and they still have that sense of entitlement. All they care about is getting back to power. It doesn’t matter who they have for leader, until they discover that problem and fix it, they are going to be in the same boat as they are right now. It is going to take years to fix it because especially the sense of entitlement is so deeply entrenched, they have a lot of purging to do.
Gleetings flom China. My nephew, Canadian “Liberal leader” Boob Lae, joins with Iffy in wishing youse a Happy Goreacle Footprint.
Mao Stlong.

“Potent winter storm set to sweep country
The Weather Channel ^ | Dec. 6, 2009 | Mark Avery
A potent storm system getting ready to move into the West Coast will bring precipitation and wind to much of the country this week.
By tomorrow, the surface low will begin to strengthen in the Southwest. As the low strengthens, winds will increase over much of the West.
With very cold temperatures in place in the Northern Rockies and High Plains, this will result in dangerously cold wind chills in parts of Idaho and Montana, where wind chill watches, warnings, and advisories are posted.
Blizzard conditions are also possible, especially in southwestern Colorado where blizzard warnings have been issued. Many areas in the Southwestern U.S. are under winter storm watches (including parts of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado) for the potential for heavy snow and blowing snow.”
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2401533/posts
Wow, this gets ever more Byzantine in its complexity. All of this is good for us. I have little doubt that rae wants iffy out. I also think Angelo Perchilli is pretty reliable.
On the other hand I want iffy to stay. Its a win win for the Tories
Regardless of what transpires within the ranks of the Liberal Party, it is a plus for the Conservatives. The only way the Liberals can, constitutionally, rid themselves of the Iggomaniac is if he either resigns or fights an election. If he stays in limbo the knives will only become sharper an more public. If he resigns, it will appear that he was forced out. In either case the turmoil will disillusion many uncommitted voters and will anger many Ignatieff supporters. A party in obvious turmoil is not one that generates a lot of support at election time.
When Donolo took over the coup was fait accompli. Now the game is simply to organize the turnover to best benefit the Liberal party.
Completely O/T, but this piece by John Ibbitson is amazing. He’s not a journalist I normally have much respect for, but this description of the memorial service in Hong Kong for the soldiers killed in WWII is definitely one of the best he’s written.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/bureau-blog/the-too-forgotten-war-dead/article1390412/
I think that choosing the next leader of the LPOC should be featured as a prime-time reality show.
That would be one sure way that the ground-support liberals could get their digs in….by voting their least deserving candidates out of the contest and into the black hole of “nice tries”.
Using the reality game show strategy has got to work better than any strategy they’ve had so far given that they’ve failed miserably.
I’m surprised that the Liberal hacks at the CBC haven’t made this offer to the Liberals. It would be a sure hit and may actually turn viewership of the CBC around? Get Mercer to host.
The show will be called “Third Time Lucky” and will be a battle between candidates in such challenges as:
– Follow the Leader (which should be funny watching each candidate chase their own tails)
– Pin the Tale on the PM (whoever tells the best fairy tale about Harper wins!)
– Who Can Identify the Most Ways Fundraise on the backs of Canadians and hopefully avoid
Another Adscam?
– Who can cry the best crocodile tears and play the role of “angry opposition” the best
– Team Hide and Seek – where candidates will be divided into two teams – the Chretienites and the Martinites – Gerard Kennedy’s “it”, or as they now politically correctly say “the seeker”
and tries to find a side that will take him.
The real test comes when Liberals, and not the Toronto Backroom Boys text, or vote on-line for their choice of leader.
Yes folks it’s getting THAT desperate for the Liberals.
Rae has left the country now because he doesn’t want to get embroiled in the Liberal party HST infighting (can you say gutless). He is leaving Ignatieff to take all the flak from Liberal MP’s and since he has no solution to the problem he wants to remain above the fray. To tell the party he is “skating” on the HST issue does not show leadership and he doesn’t want to make a definite commitment or take a stand. Why hasn’t he given the media a stand on the HST instead of letting Ignatieff hanging in the wind on a very important party issue. Persichilli has it right about the daggers for Ignatieff being out there but he should comment on how Bob Rae is manipulating all this – some Liberal MP’s may be too stupid to see through Rae’s machinations. Watch his every move and you will see him distance himself from Ignatieff and watch what issues he picks to comment on – he is a snake in the grass and Liberals should wake up.
Rae’s manoeuvres speak for themselves and we don’t need Glen Pearson to give his spin to this story. Wasn’t it on this blog that someone mentioned how Pearson sits behind Ignatieff in question period and shows no emotion at all when Ignatieff speaks while others around him applaud – he sits there like a potted plant – I have been suspicious of Pearson for a long time.
Liberal Iffy’s legacy?
The same as the legacy of Ad$Cam Chretien/MartinJr/Dion and Iffy’s Harvard buddy, O:
“*This is his sole legacy: a massive post-traumatic stress disorder.”
Da proof is da proof is proven**:
Next Face sobs:
“We were disappointed in last years coronation.
We were bewildered by the leadership convention results of December, 2006.
And so we find ourselves entering the next phase of the next face race.
Our sources tell us that Bob Rae and his “…years of the long knives…” are bearing fruit.” (ibid)
…-
“*The “small people”, the “rank and file”, the “loyal soldiers” of the narcissist – his flock, his nation, his employees – they pay the price. The disillusionment and disenchantment are agonizing. The process of reconstruction, of rising from the ashes, of overcoming the trauma of having been deceived, exploited and manipulated – is drawn-out. It is difficult to trust again, to have faith, to love, to be led, to collaborate. Feelings of shame and guilt engulf the erstwhile followers of the narcissist. This is his sole legacy: a massive post-traumatic stress disorder.”
Barack Obama – Narcissist or Merely Narcissistic?
http://www.globalpolitician.com/25109-barack-obama-election
(**H/T Liberal Jeancula Chretien)
Dion was ELECTED and Iffy and gang tossed him under the bus, the LPC will have no problem ridding themselves of an UNELECTED leader.
Dion was urged to go out into the country and get himself known, while Iffy held down the fort in Parliament…..what goes around comes around,
and Iffy has it coming.
I guess those ‘Just Visiting’ ads were more of a premonition than an attack, eh.
I’m guessing, both Persichilli and Pearson are telling the truth.
This is the Rae/Powercorp/Chretien plotting leak.
So, did he eat the wafer?
Yet another Pearson post,
hmmmmmm, showing sadness when the media takes a ‘private’ conversation and runs with it.
So who was the rat?
‘.. Discreet discussions take place all the time between politicians and their ilk, journalists and their colleagues, and a vast mixture of the two. But always there has been this complicit understanding that the public space must have some privacy inherent in it if politics and journalism are to be carried out effectively.’

Iffy don’t go Please

“Re that global warming, we could use those twins, our car is buried in our driveway, and it’s a covered driveway.”
“Those twins”, are out at it again today. Absolutely cleaning up and rolling in the cash.
I’d send them over Mary T if I could! lol
Hey Richo, your suggestion on the Lib-reality show MIGHT even get me to watch cbc!
QP today somewhat surprised me,with both Travers and Lawrence Martin pretty much trashing Iggy! Even the Owl joined in.You know it’s gotta be bad when these Harper-Haters just slam the Libs.BTW,do you think QP could find at least one ‘reporter’ that isn’t a Harper-Hater,and show a smidgen of non-partisanship?????
“Canadians may not like him,”.
That’s MacDonald’s opinion. No, not that macDonald.
More bee-ess from MacDonald:
“The worst was yet to come in terms of public opinion, in the form of blowback in Quebec over Harper’s rhetorical framing of “the separatist coalition.”
More more MacBee-ess:
“A year after his near disaster,”.
Yet more Macdess:
“Harper has become a solid, if not yet commanding, figure,”.
No bs here:
“A magisterial Stephen Harper will be hard to beat
The prime minister has assumed the mantle as well as the office”
http://www.montrealgazette.com/business/magisterial+Stephen+Harper+will+hard+beat/2309077/story.html
We should start a campaign to keep MI until the election. Clearly Canadians are impressed MI, those polls must be rigged.
The apologists for the LP are circling their wagons. The reporter must be a biased ‘con hack’ is the usual excuse.
I remember no qualms to use “private” conversations, tapes, telephone conversation being used by reporters for the benefit of the opposition.
Karma?
Angelo’s column is exactly the way Liberals get the word out, they then go into phony denial but the machinations of a dump out are already under way. They’re working like Christmas elves to find a way to get that crown from Iggy’s head and save face for him and the horde of delusional Liberal back room boys.
Wonder if they ever thought it may be time to stop trying to grab power and do the more important thing, rebuild their freaking mess of a party? They could start by choosing a person who is capable of party building, until then they’re not close to being fit to even consider running the country. right now the job of official opposition is being done by Jack Layton and his Dipper party.
Kady now has post up..’oh Liberals,if you’re going to plot against your Leader..’..link at NatNewswatch
Wonder if they ever thought it may be time to stop trying to grab power and do the more important thing, rebuild their freaking mess of a party? Liz – That was pretty much the consensus on CTV’s Question Period. Someone made reference to the ‘Messiah’ factor, ie that the Liberals always seem to be looking for one.
Wilson, that second post by Pearson is fascinating. There are layers of intrigue.
…Mr. Rae, like me, has had an open and frank relationship with the media for a long time. He’s in the Middle East right now and he will be enraged when he returns and he’ll battle this violation because a line has been crossed. Two lines, actually. The first is that the story isn’t factual, and the second is that it was meant to be private. My special thank to all those journalists who understand that distinction.
Well, that line alone about Bob Rae tells me something. Pearson sees Rae as the real leader; ready to do battle. And how can a story be a lie and meant to ‘be private’ at the same time?
Check Calgray Grit for Bob Rae’s scolding of Persichilli.
Now who do you believe?
Me, I still believe Angelo, and isn’t it rich that in his letter Rae accuses Persichilli of making things up? He of the party that has survived this long on made up scandals and stories.
How do you like it now Mr. Rae?
Getting a taste of their own medicine, and I thank Angelo for the piece.
Way OT, but what if this was ordered/banned in Canada and US media.
Iran has just banned women who wear makeup from being shown on air, anchors or others.
read Kady’s post, and she is asking some pertinent questions as well
Canadian Sense, has brought out the most obvious thing in this entire debate.
Why is it such a stretch to believe that this conversation occurred and was accurately portrayed by the author,Persichilli?
Indeed, the lefty blogs, media and politicians, have created an entire industry, these past 4 years on ‘Liberal insiders’, bathroom breaks, taped conversations and shall I go on?
Do we really expect that the Liberals in attendance in the dimly lit room, discussing their leader and party issues, would admit that they said anything negative about Iffy or Ralph? Of course they wouldn’t. It’s laughable that they are in such denial mode, when they admit they were all in fact present.
Someone, that wasn’t a part of the conversation, heard something and these Liberals can neither prove or disprove the article. As I see it, the article therefore stands.
Little too much ‘denial’ coming out of the Lib party today! Sounds like someone touched a rather raw nerve????
Sammy – Exactly.
Methinks they doth protest too much.
This idea that Ignatieff could be pushed aside is all very well, but perhaps Denis Coderre and Martin Cauchon would have other ideas as to who would be the next Messiah.
“Methinks they doth protest too much” is exactly their game plan, the truth has come out, the fire is lit and some fanning the flames behind the scenes, others are out front denying it in typical Liberal fashion. They ain’t fooling anyone.
As for Coderre or Cauchon, don’t see either of them catching on nationally.
Just posted at AGWN;
The Liberals will continue their decent into political oblivion with or without Iggy, it doesn’t matter. That party is destined to break up with the more leftist types eventually migrating to the NDP or the Greens and the rest, well some will keep babbling to themselves in a desperate attempt at rationalization while some will pick themselves up off the floor and get on with their lives.
I will not be at all surprised when the NDP becomes the official opposition.
These nasty anti-Iffy blurps from Team-Rae, usually preceed another devastating poll…..no polls this week yet?
Fear not, wilson, if there were any good news on the polling front for the Liberals we’d be hearing it. They’ll be having their pollsters on standby, asking the right questions to get their desired result, it’s part of their dump the leader strategy.
Oh my, Delacourt knows who leaked, but won’t say!!
http://bcblue.wordpress.com/2009/12/06/star-journalist-wants-iffy-to-fire-caucus-leaker/
Sounds to me like the only thing the Lieberals have left to settle is how many cinderblocks they are going to tie on Iffy’s feet before they send him to “sleep with the fishes” Too bad really, I was hoping he would be around for the next election. But in this “Godfather sequel” he has Fredo’s role, I think Bob Rae is playing Sonny, he is gonna get whacked at the HST Toll booth IMO. Lieberals, just so….entertaining they gave a typical response to HM PM’s very successful Asian trip, along with their Lamestream Media allies. They can only see a single leaf and ignore the whole forest. That is why they are number 2 heading for number 3. Conservatives Rock!
I keep telling you guys that the only fair way for the Liberals to get back to their roots is through a game-show-like selection.
Who will be behind door #3??
I’m pretty sure that there is no one in the Liberal caucus right now that could fell the PM and his machine. Nope. It’s got to be someone else – someone we’ve likely not thought of yet besides
Frank McKenna who is heads and shoulders above Rae. In fact anyone who has even been a hanger-on of the old boys couldn’t cut it.
I’m not surprised in the least. Rae has been everywhere, giving interviews and attacking the Tories constantly; doing what the Opposition Leader SHOULD be doing. Ignatieff has been utterly silent. It is simple – Rae is looking the part so the leap won’t have to be that far for the Liberals to make.
Hmmm come to think of it, Donolo’s strategy of keeping Ignatieff silent is starting to make more sense. Ignatieff may be casting his eyes wide, looking for the dagger flung from the darkness at his back. But he’d be wiser to take a closer look at the person that was supposedly hired to stand behind him.
Delacourt:
“Jean Chretien had an innovative way of dealing with potential cabinet leaks — he told his cabinet that he would fire ministers one by one, indiscriminately, until the guilty party came forward.”
That’s a dandelion from Delacourt.
Picture Jeancula sidling out each morning into his garden in the PET Cemetery, in his bestest Mao Red quilted jacket, with his trusty/rusty scimitar in his claw, lopping off a cabbage head each morning before caucus.
Lewis Carroll describes the cole slaw:
“Jabberwocky
And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. “And hast thou slain the Jabberwock …”
Off to the PET Cemetery with the dead Liberal party.
It’s stinking the land, already.
Bury the corpse before sunup.
Cromwell’s words: “”Begone,” he cried, “you have sat here too long. It is time to give way to honester men …”.
…-
greyburr’s comment at Angry’s is the most plausible seen.
“Dead on,but many of us over at Tim Hortons could really care less if the liberals even survive as a party at all.The liberal party of old is gone and is now just a bunch of mongrels with axes to grind because they could not make a living outside of the public trough. The doddering old fool rae and his elder statesman schtick as a liberal is only a cover to unite the left in my opinion.”
It’s got to be someone else – someone we’ve likely not thought of yet besides
Frank McKenna who is heads and shoulders above Rae.
Richco – You’re referring to Frank McKenna of ‘Conservatives are thugs’ fame?
“Persichilli’s opinion piece is entirely baseless. Glen Pearson, someone who was at the engagement, refutes everything the journo says”
And despite the fact the PM and others attending Leblanc’s funeral, people who were there denied wafergate, Libs, the media, and Lib bloggers ran with the story for weeks.
So I’m really sorry, but just because Pearson denies the story is no reason not to keep running with it.
Heads up kids…Gayle on the rampage over at AGWN again!
ya know, one of the most interesting tidbits in this whole ‘dump Iffy’ story,is the stuff about Ralphie Goodale.I would love to see him gone,he has been so over the top, ranting and raving like a lunatic, and I just find him to be sleazy.
I also wonder if the young turks in the Lib party (Dhalla,Holland,Brison,McGuinty etc) are behind this push to clear out the old guys? Also,Observant mentioned over at AGWN,that Glen Pearson just looks miserable if you watch him (behind Iggy) in QP. I’ve noticed this too..it makes me wonder if he was one of the mp’s rumored to be thinking of crossing over to Cons side previously.
Kady’s post:
http://www.cbc.ca/politics/insidepolitics/2009/12/oh-liberals-if-youre-going-to-plot-against-your-leader.html
BTW, I’ve got a poll up, and it looks like more people are willing to believe Persichilli’s account of events than Pearson’s denial.
The AGW moonbats are descending into manic moves. It’s O/T, but, is hilarious and true.
It’s a movie: Not, The Big Chill; but, the “Big Cutoff”.
The farce, the farce.
…-
“G & D
Steven Hayward talks about how an NYT reporter was threatened with the “Big Cutoff” by a meteorologist after revealing that prostitutes were going to provide free services to climate change campaigners.
The email conveyed the tone of 1) betrayal; 2) scandal at hearing blasphemy and 3) threat. If it were the Old Testament the wording would have been ‘Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.’ The mail went thus:
Copenhagen prostitutes?
Climate prostitutes?
Shame on you for this gutter reportage. [Emphasis added.]
This is the second time this week I have written you thereon, the first about giving space in your blog to the Pielkes.
The vibe that I am getting from here, there and everywhere is that your reportage is very worrisome to most climate scientists.
Of course, your blog is your blog.
But, I sense that you are about to experience the ‘Big Cutoff’ from those of us who believe we can no longer trust you, me included. [Emphasis added.]
Copenhagen prostitutes?
Unbelievable and unacceptable.
What are you doing and why?
The first thing that struck me when reading this email was how familiar the tone was. Everyone who has ever had contact with closed groups of true believers will recognize it immediately. Hayward continues:”

From Delacourt’s Blog
I’m confused by Glen Pearson’s attempt to deny/refute the contents of Persichilli’s column. While I take an unsourced–and somewhat breathless–piece like Mr. Persichilli’s with a grain of salt, Pearson’s refutation doesn’t actually refute much of what Mr. Persichilli wrote.
First off, Pearson generates a lot of sound and fury regarding whether or not the discussions in question were part of a planned meeting held with the expressed intent of removing Mr. Ignatieff as Liberal leader. Pearson makes eight mentions of this by my count.
But Persichilli never actually makes such a claim. Persichilli writes only that “some MPs” were “invited by Rae for a drink” and that while out for said drink “the façade of unity vanished, the true face of today’s Liberal party materialized”. Furthermore, Persichilli specifically writes that Rae nixed the idea of removing Mr. Ignatieff as leader. That Pearson would misconstrue such a small detail and blow it so completely out of proportion, makes me suspect of the rest of his denial.
Second, Pearson’s only refutation of a specific, attributed claim is with regard to Persichilli’s contention that Pearson himself said “Ignatieff was losing the loyalty of the party and Rae was ‘the only one the party trusts,’” and that “many MPs believe [Rae] should become ‘the deputy leader with authority to manage all the files in the House of Commons,’… They also said that Ignatieff shouldn’t be asking questions in the House but travelling throughout Canada ‘attending functions.’”
To this Pearson responds: “I did comment that [Ignatieff] maintained the loyalty of caucus but that Mr. Rae was a trusted performer in the House. I also stated that with Mr. Ignatieff traveling the country more, it would be good to see Bob take on more responsibility for helping us as the official opposition to hold the government to account in the House, especially during Question Period.”
That seems like a pretty fine distinction to me, but all it really does is confirm that someone with knowledge of this conversation is talking to Persichilli. (And why, by the way, the supposedly unprompted rumination that Ignatieff still “maintained the loyalty of caucus”? Was that loyalty in question?)
The third point that draws my attention, is Pearson’s failure to refute any of the controversial statements attributed to other MPs who he admits were present for the conversation in which he took part. Did Carolyn Bennet really say that “David McGuinty, Justin Trudeau and others are already planning their leadership runs and it was time for Rae to do something”? Did Ruby Dhalla muse that “loyalty is a two-way street” and “accuse[] the party of not doing enough to nurture the next generation of leaders”? We don’t know. Despite being at the table with Ms. Bennet and Ms. Dhalla, Pearson doesn’t tell us.
Lastly, I find Pearson’s claims regarding what was and was not said about Ralph Goodale a little curious. Pearson claims that no one–“nada”–suggested that “Ralph Goodale should be removed from his House [Leader] responsibilities because, they said, he brings no added value to the party, no expertise, no financial wherewithal and doesn’t deliver seats in his own province”. Pearson admits there were other Liberal MPs and Senators in the room on the night in question, but doesn’t leave open the possibility that he simply didn’t hear the comments about Ralph Goodale. Perhaps Mr. Pearson was present at Bob Rae’s side the entire evening–and assumes that Persichilli must be referring to a conversation in which Rae took part–but it’s unusual for Pearson to claim that he can prove a negative.
At the end of the day, Pearson’s denial only serves to confirm that there is at least some truth to Mr. Persichilli’s piece.
I am surprised that no one has fingered the real Brutus in the Liberal caucus – the other main stream socialist and buddy of Bob Rae’s – Ujjal Dosanjh.
Can you imagine Bob Rae leading Canadians on a Canada wide skinning dipping phenomenon as he begins the next election campaign – follow Bare Ass Bob to prosperity – that’s why you will be bare assed after he is done with you.

‘I was a participant in the conversation Mr. Persichilli’s cites in his Dec. 6 column. He was not. I participated in a conversation about ensuring that Michael Ignatieff becomes the next Prime Minister of Canada. The column is a fiction of the columnist’s own device. He has done himself serious damage as a political commentator.”

Not here,Peter B. This blog and it’s participants, regularly dissect the mess, namely Dosanjh. He is a horrifying character that from what I can see, accuses and rants within the confines of the HoC.
My best guess estimate, over half of the current Liberal caucus are extreme left leaning Liberals and are only Liberal to use the name.Dosanjh, tops that list.
Liberal voters need to seriously wake up.
We won’t have to see or listen to Dosanjh’s deranged rants after the next election, he only won by twenty two votes the last time.
Nothing like a little booze to loosen a few lips and get the truth out of Liberals. Is it possible they had too much booze and now don’t actually remember what they said – that’s not likely.
‘…follow Bare Ass Bob to prosperity – that’s why you will be bare assed after he is done with you…’
Tory Boy, get that video rollin’!!!
Iffy should really shake things up,
and kick Rae out of caucus.
How many Lib MPs would Rae have to cross the floor with, to make the NDP the Official Opposition?
Would Jack give Rae the leadership if he did?
Bob Rae has been everywhere lately, giving interviews, leading off QP, sounding off in committees. Ignatieff has completely withdrawn by comparison. Who told Ignatieff that was a good idea? Anyone that had any sort of loyalty to Ignatieff on the inside is gone, even the people that recruited him. He is more isolated than ever.
I think Donolo knows EXACTLY what he is doing. Ignatieff probably won’t find that out until it is too late.
Michael Harkov, I think you’re right! Read this:
And of course we know that John Rae is part of Power Corp.

The denials of monkey business going on in the not so dark recesses of the Liberal Party are getting louder, not a good sign for Iggy/Iffy.
As one of the great thinkers in the world one would imagine Iggy can think of a way to bow out before he’s tossed out. It may take the Liberal wrecking crew a little longer with Iggy, after all they did entice him, then crown him. Dethroning takes more subtle moves, moves the Liberals will have to learn.

“‘Climategate’ at centre stage as Copenhagen opens
The ‘Climategate’ row immediately took centre stage at the Copenhagen climate summit today when one of the opening speakers went out of his way to defend the scientific consensus on global warming from the attacks of climate change sceptics.”
“But the smooth run-up to the conference has been upset by a row over the publication of about a thousand e-mails sent by and to the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia which appear to suggest a deliberate attempt to skew the science of global warming.
In his opening address to the conference, Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), mounted a passionate defence of the organisation’s integrity and and objectivity in the face of the Climategate assault.”

World Agenda: Oil-for-Food scandal ‘a warning for all at Hopenhagen’
Delegates to the climate change conference in Copenhagen should remember the dread words “Oil-for-Food”.
World leaders plan to design global “Cap-and-Trade” system — which could grow to $2 trillion (£1.22 trillion) — to limit greenhouse gas emissions in a last-gasp bid to reverse global warming. Environmental critics such as James Hansen, the Nasa scientist considered the “grandfather of global warming”, have made conceptual objections to Cap-and-Trade, which they dismiss as ineffectual.
But even if the system is created, there are enormous pitfalls.
Key parts of Cap-and-Trade have a “corruption” warning written all over them in red flashing lights, because they are to be run by the United Nations.”

“The Climate Mafia
Fraudulent Emissions-Trading Schemes Rob German Tax Authorities
The Kyoto Protocol introduced a scheme for trading emissions certificates as a way to help reduce CO2 emissions. German tax authorities are now investigating almost 40 companies that traded certificates for allegedly taking advantage of loopholes in sales tax laws to bilk the taxman out of hundreds of millions of euros.
German Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen has hardly been in office for much more than a month, but he’s already choosing his words for dramatic effect. “It’s about the way we live, and it’s about survival,” Röttgen said last Thursday before the German parliament, the Bundestag, referring to the climate summit beginning Monday in Copenhagen. At the summit, the nations of the world will search for ways to reduce the CO2 emissions behind global warming. One of the tools to be discussed is the trading of emissions certificates.
In Germany, though, it is precisely this instrument that is causing a huge headache for Röttgen, as dozens of tax offices across the country are investigating shady emissions trading companies. All of the companies in question maintain accounts with the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt), an arm of the ministry Röttgen heads. According to DEHSt head Hans-Jürgen Nantke, since September, his agency has “received official requests for assistance in cases relating to suspected sales tax fraud from various regional tax offices and tax investigation offices.”
The authorities are investigating questionable transactions in Germany’s central emissions trading registry. As in any other EU country, public utilities and industrial enterprises maintain accounts in the registry, which provides them with a certain number of emissions credits. Under the 2005 Kyoto Protocol, the emissions of climate-harming carbon dioxide are to be reduced as efficiently as possible with the help of this method of trading emissions certificates. According to this system, companies that invest in new, eco-friendly technologies no longer need all of their certificates and can, in turn, sell them to others — and at a steep price.
Current prices for these certificates are set on exchanges, such as France’s Bluenext, the ECX in London, the EEX in Leipzig and, more recently, the Greenmarket segment of the Munich Stock Exchange. At the moment, the right to emit one ton of CO2 into the atmosphere is worth about €14 ($21). In the first half of 2009, the volume of trade in emissions certificates in Europe alone already amounted to €40 billion.
Going after the Climate Speculators
The high-stakes deals being made with certificates are attracting more and more speculators. While investment banks, such as Goldman Sachs, and US-based hedge funds are speculating on emissions certificates, small trading companies are now trying to bilk tax authorities out of the sales tax that is part of many of these certificate-trading deals. Tax authorities are investigating “an estimated 30 to 40 companies,” says Nantke, adding that some of these companies are based abroad.
Investigators are apparently also interested in bank transactions.” (more)
