Stephen Harper Rockstar – Shanghai edition

Yes we agree.  Prime Minister Harper is very handsome indeed.

And very competent.

It took a while for him to visit you because we have a minority government right now, and our opposition is always threatening to bring him down. Too bad so many in our country don’t realize what a gem we have here.

Update:

Well what do you know? The Globe’s John Ibbitson actually has some flattering words for PM HarperScoring in China – without prostituting ourselves.

Great pics at Sort of Political.

I think they are starting to realize what a good PM we have. Read the comments, all positive, and that’s at the Liberal Star. Go figure!

Joanne, the prime minister should travel more often to get his message out or hire a reporter from the OMNI NETWORK, I am positive that this reporter will do a far better job than FIFEGATE.

  4. MaryT says:

Just watched a clip on cbc with their business expert. Of course China and the PM was discussed. Host asked, has this trip been a success and reponse a positive yes. He mentioned that for the past decade (pre PMSH) things have been cooling between Canada and China. Australia has had TD for 10 yrs. Everything he mentions basically put the ball back into the liberal court, and the host didn’t get it.
Then the oil sands was discussed and again, he said they are the economic engine of Canada, the world needs oil.
Shutting them down would be economic suicide. (paraphrased)
CBC actually showed video of our PM mingling with the people, and Terry M was not as snarky as usual.

  5. Roy Eappen says:

    HM Pm Harper is amazing!

  6. Joanne says:

Great video and links Jen! Thanks.

  7. Liz J says:

Fife et all are concentrating on the so-called reprimand, it’s the first part of all “reports” which tells us the PM is doing a smashing job on this tour, the Liberal media cannot bear to report good news, they must temper it something negative first. Pathetic pack of losers.

  8. Ardvark says:

PM Harper has accomplished more for Canada in a couple of days away than Michael Ignatieff did in the 34 years he was abroad, and pretending not to be a Canadian.

OT: Jen, I added the video link you posted above to a post I just made on the world poll. Thanks

  9. Sammy says:

Just read this ‘lovely’ comment at the Torstar piece..(warning,get your barf bucket out): “Too bad the Chinese never had any arsenic handy to rid Canada of this vermin.Short of a plane crash, this is all I wish for Stevie”
Can you even believe this garbage? That is disgusting, but why has the Star let that remain?
BTW,when is Fife ever going to get over the little slight by the Chinese? He keeps harping away at that, and he just sounds so bloody petty.

  10. Joanne says:

Sammy, sounds like somebody needs to alert the Star.

  11. Sammy says:

I did try Jo,but you have to sign in,and I don’t want to give them any personal info. Do you think they even care? The majority of people that read that trash, probably agree.

  12. Joanne says:

Maybe someone reading this blog is already registered and can complain, Sammy. That is really over the top.

  13. Sammy says:

I just went back to check Jo,and the comment is now gone. There must have been some backlash…and there damn sure should have been That is just a fine example of the mindset of some idiots..they just cannot appreciate what a treasure PMSH truly is.

  14. Joanne says:

Sammy, that’s good news that the comment is gone. Sometimes these sites rely on reader feedback to flag unacceptable comments.

“Australia’s ‘Mad Monk’ deals blow to eco-campaign

THE new leader of Australia’s opposition, Tony Abbott, was celebrating two by-election victories over the Greens yesterday after proclaiming his doubts about climate change.

Abbott, dubbed the “Mad Monk” for his conservative Catholic beliefs, moved within hours of becoming leader last week to dump his Liberal party’s carbon tax and emissions trading policies championed by Malcolm Turnbull, his predecessor.

He provoked outrage among climate experts and dismay in the run-up to the Copenhagen climate summit when he said that better land management, more trees and fuel-efficient lorries would meet the ruling Labor party’s carbon reduction target of 5%-25% by 2020.

Abbott branded the carbon reduction bill of Kevin Rudd, the prime minister, as a “great big new tax”. Pledging to fight the next election on climate change, he said the bill “won’t improve the environment, it will just increase prices”.”

“Chinese pay toxic price for a green world

Just outside the heavily polluted industrial city of Baotou, Inner Mongolia, surrounded by smokestacks, lies a lake with no name.

At this time of year the lake bed freezes into waves of solid mud. In summer, locals say, it oozes a viscous, red liquid. It is a “tailing lake”, where toxic rare earth elements from a mine 100 miles away are stored for further processing.

Seepage from the lake has poisoned the surrounding farmland. “The crops stopped growing after being watered in these fields,” said Wang Cun Gang, a farmer. The local council paid villagers compensation for loss of income. “They tested our water and concluded that neither people nor animals should drink it, nor is it usable for irrigation.”

This is the price Chinese peasants are paying for the low carbon future. Rare earths, a class of metallic elements that are highly reactive, are essential for the next generation of “green” technologies. The battery in a Toyota Prius car contains more than 22lb of lanthanum. Low-energy lightbulbs need terbium. The permanent magnets used in a 3 megawatt wind turbine use 2 tons of neodymium and other rare earths.

In small workshops near Baotou, workers wearing no protective clothing watch over huge vats of acid and other chemicals, steam rising from rusty pipes, as they stir and bag toxic liquids and powders, turning the rare earth elements into compounds and oxides for further processing into batteries and magnets. Wearing no masks, they breathe air heavy with fumes and dust and handle chemicals without gloves.

A thousand miles to the southeast, in Jiangxi province, the extraction process is more damaging. Green hills are studded with makeshift plants which pump acid into the earth. Last September villagers in Pitou county blocked lorries carrying chemicals and picketed the council, angry that their fields had been ruined.

“We farm rice but cannot harvest anything any more,” said a woman, who was afraid to give her name because her husband is still in prison for protesting. “Fruit trees don’t bear fruit any more. Fish die in the river. We used to wash in the river and lots of fish would come to us, but there are none left. Even the weeds died.” (more)

Well the usual suspects are squawking, Lizzy, Fife, Iffy, truth be told if I was goin’ lookin’ for buisness in another country the Leader tell me he wants to see more of me more often gives way in a few key areas, to underline his sincerity, well I really don’t see that as negative. Kinda remids me of my old Irish Gran God rest her soul “Don’t be a stranger” Unless of course I was tryin’ hard to disparage the efforts of our excellent leader and PM Stephen Harper. He did not bow and scrape like POTUS Obama, he made his points quietly and with dignity, he does us proud. China has a ways to go but they are moving along the road the more they see of the west the more they will want our freedom to particapate, communicate, and prosper. Mr Ignatieff needs to concentrate on something other than carping and gotcha, perhaps even some policy ideas would be nice, anything other then the seemingly endless negativity, it’s not resonating at all with Canadians, he just comes across as a small minded and cranky old guy. But hey some one has to play grinch to HM PM’s display of calm, dignified statesmanship.

  18. Bubba Brown says:

By the By other than the obvious “HM PM ROCKS” I meant to add to the last post CBC REACTS!! To Climate-gate “BREAKIN” they are showin’ “Inconvienent Truth” on prime time on sunday evening??? Fire.Them.All.

  19. fernstalbert says:

I have had a rethink on PM Harper’s visit to China and the so called “rebuke or scolding”. Perhaps the Chinese were reaching out and saying, we respect and like your government, and would like to have a more intimate and mutually beneficial relationship. We may not agree on all issues, but at least Canada is steadfast on issues that affect Canada and China. Asking Canada to visit more often is not the advice of a disinterested China, but one of grudging respect. Even disagreements can be negotiated and the Chinese need our goodwill as much as we need their buying power. In the end, Canada will not pick winners and losers but will try for a middle path so all parties can keep their dignity intact. Cheers.

Confirmation alert….Fife et all are idiots!

Spoke to a dozen of my hubby’s buds today which also happen to be Canadians of Chinese descent.

The ‘boys from Ottawa’ that think they are journalists, ARE WRONG!
That was a flattering compliment…. ‘We missed you and could hardly wait for you to return’…What took you so long, it’s been a day (5 years)’…..’You are our friend and we enjoy your company’……’Our door is always open, everyday’

Those were interpretations of the same statement but offered to guests that had a meaningful value.

The statement to the PM was absolutely NOT a slight, it was a confirmation of the respect given to a LOVED and DESIRED guest!
Confirmed 100% by 10, Canadian citizens that have immigrated from China.

Seriously, is there a respectable intellect that travels to China as a journalist or Canadian LIBERAL LEADER that allows his MP’s to make such complete fools of themselves?

They have and the Canadian Chinese community is cracking up!

“Liberal MPs plot early retirement for Ignatieff”

“It all started after a gathering to mark the retirement of Liberal Senator Jerry Grafstein from the Hill. Among those present were Ignatieff and Rae.

After they had all feted the popular senator with great words of love and affection, some MPs – invited by Rae for a drink – moved “100 yards away from the Hill” into the Château Laurier. Here the façade of unity vanished, the true face of today’s Liberal party materialized and the real work of politics, which no longer takes place on the Hill, was in full swing.

Glen Pearson, an MP from London and one of those present for the nightcap with Rae, said that in his opinion Ignatieff was losing the loyalty of the party and Rae was “the only one the party trusts.” Carolyn Bennet, also present at the meeting, said that David McGuinty, Justin Trudeau and others are already planning their leadership runs and it was time for Rae to do something.

Then the conversation shifted to some concrete proposals. In particular, they told Rae that many MPs believe he should become “the deputy leader with authority to manage all the files in the House of Commons,” basically a kind of CEO. They also said that Ignatieff shouldn’t be asking questions in the House but travelling throughout Canada “attending functions.”

Some also said that Ralph Goodale should be removed from his House responsibilities because, they said, he brings no added value to the party, no expertise, no financial wherewithal and doesn’t deliver seats in his own province.

Rae also was critical of the performance of the leader but said he was not interested in a coup d’état. However, he added that his loyalty is solely to the Liberal party.

Ruby Dhalla said that loyalty is a two-way street and accused the party of not doing enough to nurture the next generation of leaders. During the conversation, it was suggested that a group of MPs should meet with chief of staff Peter Donolo and present some of these proposals as soon as possible.

This was not an isolated meeting between a few MPs – it’s the dominant theme of discussion among almost all Liberal MPs uncertain about their future.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ignatieff were to reconsider his political future and go back to his beloved academic world before the end of the year.”

Look Guys, the LPOC are not worth the dime to run this great nation. The LPOC had their chance and so did their media instead they chose themselves over canada.
Now I see why immigrants don’t listen to the canadian media-they have their own and from what they observed via their media Omni network -they saw an entire different style of reporting and from what they saw and heard without the criticism from FIFE and the rest of them, made the news more interesting. And from what these immigrants gathered from their news is that the prime minister stephen harper is the man for them.
