Well, he is noted for being a thinker of thoughts so he couldn’t appear to make a decision without thinking even when there was really little thinking required.

Liz – Maybe it was raining. ;)

    Iffy’s IST Ouster.

Liberal Iffy ousts the HST and replaces it with the IST.

“Just last summer, during a tour of B.C., Ignatieff criticized Prime Minister Stephen Harper for pushing provinces in the midst of a recession to adopt what he derisively referred to as the “Harper sales tax.””

More Iffy: “After a week of confusion, Ignatieff grudgingly acknowledged that he would, in fact, honour that agreement should he become prime minister.”

    More more Iffy:

““We’re practising a federalism of respect. Mr. Harper . . . practised a federalism of disrespect and division and I don’t think that’s any way to run a federation.””

It’s got to be doubly difficult for the Learned Thinker to vote for something he labeled disdainfully the Harper sales tax. Perhaps he should do a bit more thinking, maybe even think for himself, instead of blurting out smart-ass stuff handed to him from the bunker boys.

A Prime Minister may be called upon to make split second decisions. At the very least, a PM is required to act quickly as situations present.

What ever did the LPC see in this guy?

In other news, PMSH takes over another file Liberals have assumed theirs….

    Iffy Sales Tax. Heh.

No news for Iggy on this one and no traction either I’m afraid.
I don’t know if anyone else caught the contradiction in The Waffle’s statement to the press on thi8. When he started he said that it was the province’s that wanted the HST and that he supported the provinces. A bit later he then flipped saying that it was the PM who initiated the whole thing.

Can’t have it both ways Iffy.
Pick a side and stick to it for once?

This is going to make Layton a happy camper. Don’t be surprised if the NDP numbers are up again next poll.

  8. Rich says:

Off topic but necessary: I sent this web page to the Environment Ministers asking them to explain why this was never discussed in Parliament and why these people constantly talk about hard caps on GHG.

OT, but QP is still all about detainees. Can they keep this up during the PM’s visit to China. What else will they try for a faux scandal during this trip and to Demark.
When is the Christmas break. A year ago today was the day of infamy for Canadian people, the coalition was signed.

  10. Bec says:

    Ah ha, a decision, alas!

HST = Highbrows’ Sales Tax ( or as some people say, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander)

Highbrow def noun;intellectual, scholar, egghead (informal), brain (informal), mastermind, Brahmin (U.S.), aesthete, savant, brainbox (slang) the sniggers of the highbrows

    Quotations
“A highbrow is a kind of person who looks at a sausage and thinks of Picasso” [A.P. Herbert The Highbrow]

Iggy’s Finger in the wind decides his position on HST

For Ignatieff to announce today that the Liberal party “for 15 years has supported sales tax harmonization” then begs the question . Why has the Liberal party under Michael Ignatieff – to use the words of ( leader in waiting of the Liberal party) Bob Rae , been skating on the issue for the past several weeks and holding clandestine meetings to decide the Liberal position before Canadians are informed just days before the vote?
What is baffling to Canadians is Ignatieff’s absurd and incomprehensible observation today “Harper has walked away from this issue – not taking any responsibility” . Hello – can someone remind him that it is the Conservative government that has the bill before the House on which the vote will be held this week and Harper is still the leader – it is Ignatieff’s leadership that is tenuous and fragile not Harpers.

  12. Jen says:

Peter B, Ignatieff is a lieberal that’s all. Omar Khadr can run for the liberal leadership and the liberals’ headquarters(CBC) and media generals there, will embrace him. Why? like I said, he is a liberal.

PM, you, me, the country, our troops our flag are nothing to them. They ‘PRETEND’ that they once in a while care but not to cravez for.

  13. Richco says:

That Kelly McParland piece is not very complementary of the Ontario PCs is he? Truth be told I feel the way Kelly does at this moment because the stunt the PCs are pulling only works when there’s a groundswell of opposition against the HST. While I know that there is some and it’s starting to ramp up it’s too little to late and the consequence is what the PCs look like as Kelly suggests.

I think Hudak might as well have a solid Plan B to present to Ontario about how he intends to deal with the HST and other taxes when he’s PM and start now – don’t wait until it’s too late.

I know it’s not Hudak’s fault. I place the blame at the feet of John Tory who hung on way too long. Another few months to a year ago I think we could have ramped up the opposition big time as we slunk into a recession that it appears we’re not coming out of better than even the banks predicted.

I do like that it’s Bill Murdoch and Randy Hillier though. Those two will get re-elected by their constituents because they are who they are.

  14. Jen says:

There are three provinces that have the HST implemented years ago. This not a recent matter and it is the provencial premiers who ask for the HST.
Alberta premiere has not even asked for an HST so to say that it is HARPER TAX, the liberals and their media better take a look again.
And another thing. what if the liberals voted against something which is already implimented in those provinces.
I notice that Layton who is against the HST might as well tell those provinces that have it already to get rid of it. Let see what they will him.

Nigel Lawson being interviewed right now on BNN regarding AGW. Munk Debates tonight.

  16. Joanne says:

Thanks Jt. Just catching it now.

  17. jt says:

Jen: Alberta premiere has not even asked for an HST.

That’s because we don’t have a PST to “harmonize”. Just GST here in Alberta.

  18. fh says:

I am totally disgusted with the opposition Liberal and NDP women refusing to honor the tragic murder
of 13 women engineering students December 6,1989 at l’ecole polytechnique

this was a tragic and devastating murder. The guns the murderer Marc Lepine used were bought
and licensed by Marc Lepine How could a gun registry have prevented this horrendous murder?
Please let me know how the gun registry would have prevented this gun crime.

this was particularly horrifying for my family as our daughter had just enrolled in her first year
    of university in Mechanical Engineering

this behavior (boycotting a ceremony meant to show respect to the families of the murdered women and to honor their short lives) of elected politicians is very disturbing it shows a complete lack of concern for all Canadian women

    fh

I hope they can face their daughters and granddaughters tonight

  19. Liz J says:

Yes, fh, and they have the nerve to say they don’t want to politicize it!!!
How can they claim THEIR actions are NOT politicizing it?

The politics on the Hill has gone toxic due to the behaviour of entire opposition.

  20. Shane in the 'wack says:

All I know is that the Liberals can stick to there principles of being “unprincipled” faux show (I’ll huff! I”ll puff!….and blow my own house down!Oops!) as long as they vote with the government.
The Conservatives introduced a bill on Monday legislating the CN engineers back to work. Any amount of delay will have severe consequences for our economy.
I am appalled, angry yet not stunned at the number of unions that have decided or threatened to strike during these times. It truly shows theor complete disconnect with the public and seves as a sign that they have outlived their usefulness.

Further to my thoughts above, it has been suggested to start a list of Iffy’s faux pas’. I would suggest the background music be Britney Spears “Oops, I did it again.” Matter of fact, that should be Iffy’s theme song.

    …-

    “Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh, who

    sent out flyers criticizing the

HST as the “Harper Sales Tax,”

also said candidly that at least four of the five Liberal MPs from B.C. wanted Mr. Ignatieff to come out against the tax,”

“Liberals openly question Ignatieff’s support for HST ”

  22. Liz J says:

Could Iffy be facing a mini caucus revolt over this?

  23. fh says:

    my bad I apologize
I didn’t check my facts and for some reason thought I had remembered correctly the number 13
it was 14 women gunned down with a legally purchased gun
hope I did not offend anyone
