As Wilson so aptly pointed out, Michael Ignatieff is planning to take “his own sweet time” to decide whether or not he will honour his promise to Dalton McGuinty.
Or does he think he has the right in B.C. Finance Minister Colin Hansen’s words, to “second-guess the decisions taken by provincial government to proceed with it”?
Oh, Iffy. What will you do?

Monday Update:
History traps Ignatieff on HST issue – Chantel Hebert
Big thinker or oddly irritating? – Jane Taber

This reminds me of that Friday in June, when he told the media he would think things over on the weekend and give a “straight up or down” on Monday (re non-confidence over EI-360).
Then, when Monday arrived, he gave anything BUT a straight up or down. That was the beginning of the end of his honeymoon with the media.
And then, when the threat of an election made the top of CTV’s nightly newscast, the EKOS daily tracking showed a 5 point drop in Liberal support ! Great entertainment and memories for us all.
The guy is so obviously in way over his head as the leader of a major party. How hard can it be to pick one side or the other on the HST, and then stick to it ? Sheesh, it’s not THAT complicated.
Iffy and his minions can take all the time they like, their input is not needed!!!! Iffy has succeeded, despite media induced insurmountable odds, in becoming irrelevant in Canadian politics. His opinion has about as much political weight as the pigeon poop I scrapped of my car last year.
Clearly MI is terrified in losing his leadership if Bob Rae and his faction pulls out citing the NFLD example as a precedent.
It is only fair the BC and Ontario Liberals should vote against or abstain leaving the other MPS to take one for the team……
It’s all the fault of those Conservative thugs who constantly bad-mouth Iffy and call him names like Iffy or Iggy.
Hey, wait a minute!
That’s us!
Can we flatter ourselves to consider that we are thugs too and, as such, are part of the thuggery that is so hurtin’ the Liberal Party and their leader?
It’s probably too late for a t-shift this time around but if we’re called thugs again I want to proudly wear a CONSERVATIVE THUG t-shirt while shopping at the local supermarket.
O/T but the signicficance warrants posting:
By the way: in July, Climateaudit ran a story about the “solution” to the FOI requests to the Hadley CRU and the footdragging on release of data from their archives. This is posted at SDA right now, but the servers at Climateaudit are bogged, so i can’t get the link. I didn’t appreciate the significance at the time but in light of the recent email release of CRU, it does now.
The dog ate their homework. The “raw” temperature data that AGW is formulated on was (accidentally, they claim), “purged”. Gone, disappeared into ether, vamos. The CRU claimed that that was why the “delay” or runaround on releasing this data under FOI.
In effect, if anyone wished to re-create, or replicate the Hockey Stick Graph with any other un-massauged temperature data, they will not be able to. the only data available is the current archived, manipulated, “cooked” data.
These genetlemen are supposed to be the pinnacle of the climatology world, the epitome of shining white knights of climatology and they “purged” their “raw” data for space reasons on a move, archiving anly the massauged temperature data.
The powers that be at the East Anglia University have an unpleasant job on their hands – re-establishing the credibility of their institute of higher learning, once they FIRE these gentlemen from their exalted positions.
Why would any government commit their taxpayer’s to any climate mitigation policies or expenditures after this revelation? Wealth redistribution? That is probably the only reason now, or raising new taxes to solve a non-existant problem.
These genetlmen are not “scientists”, they make a mockery of real science. They are the student’s council level of scientific “debate” and can’t back up their claims themselves now, with the loss of their “raw” data.
Sorry, it’s revealed here: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article6936328.ece
O/T
Meanwhile Harper has stated he will contribute our tax dollars to a $10 Billion Commonwealth fund to help fight climate change! If he spends one cent of my tax dollars on this scam he will lose a long time supporter.
I will be attending a fund raising luncheon on Sat 5th with MPs James Lunney and Jason Kenny and they had better have some answers.
If the party is going to go along with this AGW fraud/scam they will lose alot of support!
Al W, I was really distressed to hear that too! Please let us know what happens at your luncheon. Thanks.
Al, I think the PM is having to play a difficult position (Globe):
“I notice that the UN secretary-general made particular praiseworthy note of targets that President Obama has laid out. Those targets are of course completely in line with the government of Canada’s policy,” Mr. Harper said.
Mr. Harper said he’s keen to see countries strike a detailed agreement on greenhouse gas reductions in Copenhagen next month.
But he offered no evidence that Canada is thinking of offering deeper cuts in the earlier term, as opposed to its existing targets for 2020 and 2050.
The Prime Minister suggested he had little patience for “abstract targets.”
I think his plan is to say that there has to be consensus around all emitting countries before Canada will agree to anything and that we will mirror the U.S. in that regard. That is my understanding. Because if all countries were actually on board, then perhaps there actually would be some kind of substantive reduction of GHG’s.
Our PM is doing the only common sense thing on this wacky Climate Change file. Coming up with ways to reduce pollution makes sense only if it’s also done where the most pollution is spewed in places like China and India where the health of the people who live in it is at stake.
To mirror the US with whom we share a border and trade is also the only way any thinking person would go.
We must be thankful we are not doing the bidding of Mo Strong’s Kyoto dictum which Chretien signed on to and did squat about for close to a decade. It wasn’t about pollution, it was about money to buy dirt.
Has anyone heard from Chretien? Since he likes to chime in at times, has he offered up any advice or hinted what he would do in Copenhagen? You can bet not. When you don’t put your money where your mouth is,don’t honour your signature to a commitment, credibility is shot.
The whole Kyoto sham is part of Mo Strong’s ideology to shut down the developed world. Thank God we have a PM who takes the time to think things through, we need to bear with him.
Message to Canadian PM Harper.
Redeem yourself Mr. Harper.
Are you on the wrong side of history, PM Harper?
Say it is not so, PM Harper.

It developed — in yet another impressive McIntyre takedown, this time with an assist from Ross McKitrick — that Mann was utilizing an algorithm that would produce hockey sticks if you fed it telephone numbers. (Mann is the “Mike” mentioned in the CRU e-mails, and this is one of his “tricks”.) Despite this disclosure, Mann has never withdrawn the chart, offered an explanation, or made a correction. The chart remains an accepted piece of evidence among warmists.”

“Scientists were once among the most trusted figures in Western public life, similar to bankers, priests, and doctors, but in a real sense standing above them all. Scientists were honored as truth-tellers, aware that their reputation for veracity and seriousness was their only real asset. And while exceptions existed (read the story of Blondlot and his N-rays, for one example), the public took them at their own valuation.
That is ended, one with the scholastic monasteries and the academy at Athens. Scientists today are well on their way to becoming an amalgam of the cheap politician and the three-card monte dealer. They are viewed by the less educated as a privileged class making alarming and impudent claims for their own benefit. The better informed find ourselves in the uncomfortable position of being unable to defend something we once admired.
The next set of questions in physics cannot be answered without equipment costing billions at the very least, and possibly much more. Will a disbelieving public pay for that? We are facing serious dilemmas concerning breakthroughs in biology, not only in stem-cell technology but also in neurology and synthetic biology, breakthroughs that threaten to distort the very nature of humanity itself. Should we leave the solutions up to people who want us to pick a card, any card?
The collaboration between science and democracy is one of the great achievements of human history. It is now threatened by the behavior of people at the very heart of that collaboration. If it is destroyed, something of unparalleled value will have vanished, something that will be nearly impossible to replace. If the Western world wishes to continue its magnificent upward journey, we will have to save science from itself. An errant and corrupt climatology is the place to start.”

“Global Warming Fraud and the Future of Science
American Thinker ^ | November 29, 2009 | J.R. Dunn
The East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU) revelations come as no real surprise to anyone who has closely followed the global-warming saga. The Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) thesis, to give it its semi-official name, is no stranger to fraud. It would be no real exaggeration to state that it was fertilized with fraud, marinated in fraud, stewed in fraud, and at last served up to the world as prime grade-A fraud with nice side orders of fakery and disingenuousness. Damning as they may be, the CRU e-mails are merely the climactic element in an exhaustively long line.
A short tour of previous AGW highlights would include:
The Y2K Glitch.” >>> (more)

From Kate at Small Dead Animals: No U-turns allowed
Flashback to April 18th…
Dear Tom,
I find it hard to believe that the British Antarctic Survey would permit the deletion of relevant files for two recent publications or that there aren’t any backups for the deleted data on institutional servers. Would you mind inquiring for me? In the mean time, would you please send me the PP format files that you refer to here for the monthly sea ice data for the 20th century models discussed in your GRL article and the 21st century models referred to in your JGR article.
Regards, Steve McIntyre
Then in July… “Unprecedented” Data Purge At CRU
On Monday, July 27, 2009, as reported in a prior thread, CRU deleted three files pertaining to station data from their public directory http://ftp.cru.uea.ac.uk/. The next day, on July 28, Phil Jones deleted data from his public file – see screenshot with timestemp in post here, leaving online a variety of files from the 1990s as shown in the following screenshot taken on July 28, 2009.
The Telegraph, today – Climategate: University of East Anglia U-turn in climate change row ….. Leading British scientists at the University of East Anglia, who were accused of manipulating climate change data – dubbed Climategate – have agreed to publish their figures in full….
Now, here comes the other shoe! Hide the Decline!
SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.
It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.
The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.
The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals — stored on paper and magnetic tape — were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building.”
[...]
In a statement on its website, the CRU said: “We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data.”
The CRU is the world’s leading centre for reconstructing past climate and temperatures. Climate change sceptics have long been keen to examine exactly how its data were compiled. That is now impossible.”

Lorrie Goldstein asks,
“And based on stuff like this, politicians are going to blow up our economy and lower our standard of living to “fix” the climate?
Are they insane?”
No, they are not insane.
They are Evil.
The Evil is Canadian Maurice Strong*, et al, the Unabomber* of AGW.

“‘Botch after botch after botch’
Leaked ‘climategate’ documents show huge flaws in the backbone of climate change science
By LORRIE GOLDSTEIN
I’ve been poring over one of many leaked computer files from the “climategate” scandal.
It’s worse than those e-mails revealing leading climate scientists did a “trick” to “hide the decline” in global temperatures and privately called it a “travesty” they couldn’t explain recent cooling.
This document has the innocuous header “HARRY_READ_Me.txt.”
I’m indebted to Kate McMillan, the remarkable Canadian blogger who runs smalldeadanimals.com, for calling it to my attention.
You can easily find it online. I used http://www.anenglishmanscastle.com/HARRY_READ_Me.txt.
The file — 274 pages long — describes the efforts of a climatologist/programmer at the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia to update a huge statistical database (11,000 files) of important climate data between 2006 and 2009.
The computer coding, along with the programmer’s apparently unsuccessful efforts to complete the project, involve data that are the foundation of the study of climate change — recordings from hundreds of weather stations around the world of temperature and precipitation measurements from 1901 to 2006, sun/cloud computer simulations, and the like.
PRESUMABLY PRECISE
These presumably precise data are the backbone of climate science.
Reading “HARRY_READ_ME.txt” it’s clear the CRU’s files were a mess. The programmer laments huge gaps in data, bug-filled programs and worries about all the guesswork he’s doing. His comments suggest the problems go back years.” (more)

Re: HST in Ontario – too little opposition and too late for the reasons I suggested in previous posts. It was and issue that’s been out there for at least two years in Ontario, but the opposition was slow to act(thanks in large part to Tory hanging in so long) and the public even slower and almost reluctant to snowball the criticism. My local paper should be full of letters to the editor ranting against the new tax but other than one or two each week it’s too quiet.
Something else to raise, is that we had a by-election recently in a downtown Toronto riding and our Tory candidate ran opposing the HST and she lost. Mind you I am told that the PC heavy-weights didn’t bother to show up to campaign for the candidate, but what does that tell you?
That given Dalton’s driving of the HST as an issue the voters still picked the tax over no tax.
Re: the PM and climate change. Until folks like those hear send raise their voices and send the PM a message that it’s ok to oppose the whole climate change agenda he’ll have to make like we’re acting. It’s the politically correct thing for him to do at the moment.
What’s very interesting to me is that the same countries who praised our PM for his ability in economics to keep Canada ranking better than most other countries in weathering the economic downturn, would criticize Harper on the environment issue. Do they not realize that maybe one reason why Canada remains the strongest country economically right now is because we have a government that stood strong and didn’t give in to the environuts???
We’re not out of the economic challenges yet and I sure don’t want my money wasted on making the environuts and junk scientists rich! Mr. Harper has my permission to turn the tables and work to make it politically correct to lead rather than follow commit our country to promises that give our money away?
off topic but is anyone else having problems posting at SDA?
Sorry to hi-jack this post, Joanne. Reverting to Mr Ignatief:
What’s his Party’s take on this? Any Thinking Thoughts? Where does the LPOT, the Rosedale Gang sit on this boondoggle? Any alternate plans for Canadians, or is he and his LPOT Brain Trust still splitting hairs on Afghan detainees/AQ-thugs, an item that doesn’t really affect Canadians in a material way, but more on an esoteric way?
From where I sit, the LPOT has lose all relevance to the remaining, voting public on just about any issue. They seem to be a “One Issue Party” or can’t multi-task. And where is Jack!, the LPOT Alternative Government? Silence I guess. Better to remain silent than to remove all doubt on your grasp on this subject (AGW) as the only thing he might venture is probably what Harpo is (wait for Owe-Bambi), or raise taxes. That tax raising thingy isn’t going too well now in Ontario, is it? We’ll than load the Annual 3rd World Climate Extortion Tax on top of that too, because “Owe-bambi made me do it”.
Should sell well, it’s to Save the Planet, isn’t it/
Sorry, that’s “lost” not lose.
Exerpted from a poster at SDA:
“…..This web of ‘Cimatista’ lies is unraveling faster than a Chineese made nylon sweater. The politicians are on to it, all of them. I think that ENORMOUS pressure should be loaded on the opposition, with threats not to vote for them, if they do not ask questions and call press conferences. I have already written to Larry Bagnel, our Liberano MP, and sent him links to Climategate, I have written Ignatieff and the Prime Minister and Jim Prentice. It is the JOB of the opposition to bring this up – so far they have gotten off -Scott free. It is all about who knew and when they knew..they must be kept up to date with a paper trail to prove that they knew all about this scam to impoverish all Canadians by stealing our wealth and our freedom to support a scientific fraud. They must be forced to ask questions once they are armed with the information or they will be punished at the next election. It does not matter that sane people already know that the troika are ‘all in’ floundering around the filth in the the AGW tank.

Sigh. OK, I’ll send a FLASH NEWS email to teh Oppos and ask where they are on this file. They are either for us or agin’ us. Should be fun doing this for the next while and watch them all squirm. Heh!
The GW fraud is now being investigated by US Congress.
Imo, this will make the US healthcare debate seem like an actual tea party.
My stomach churned too when PMSH was ‘onboard’ with the $10 Billion (adaptation) fund.
But, I do trust that our PM will not sell us out to this fraud.
We have to watch as this plays out, and again, trust PMSH.
o/t
Remember how the most noteworthy thing about PMSH’s trip to India our msm came up with,
was ‘chaos’, pushing and shoving?
Here’s what actually happened:
“There were thousands and thousands of people to see the Canadian prime minister. Seeing this welcome in my hometown, I told his executive assistant (Jeremy Hunt) that the PM is more popular here than the fifth Beatle. There was so much response and energy.”
“When the PM came to the Golden Temple, he was treated like a rock star. There were 100,000 people and the energy was overwhelming. The amount of respect the prime minister got there surpassed anything I have seen in my whole life,” the self-made multi-millionaire said.
http://www.samaylive.com/news/is-the-golden-temple-all-real-gold-asked-canadian-pm/669331.html
Wilson, yeah. That really exposes Canadian MSM for what they are – Liberal hacks.
Holy smokes, there are a ton of emotions out there in the blogosphere, hey.
I sense that the reason ‘the topic’ isn’t being discussed is because we already know that Iffy is WEAK and so what’s the point repeating it….weak, weak, weak….
I conclude by saying that he will never make a decision now without someone telling him what it is first……from this moment forward, he’ll be HANDLED….
ps terrific links everyone!
Wow Joanne – do even here the issue of GST was hijacked by Climategate:-)
I’m still on the HST which I think is going to hit much more closer to home and quicker than will Climategate for the moment.
oooppppp
that should read “Wow Joanne – even here the issue of HST was hijacked by Climategate:-)”
need coffee!
You know, this is FUN! I love watching our polis squirm and dance and squeal and lose face to their voters. We do pay them to “run”, not stroll! It’s better than watching QP, or the charade that the HoC is. Most of them look like idiots on either side of this issue. The provinces aren’t even in the game on this issue as they have bought AGW, hook, line and sinker – for the money. Their turns will come next.
Crack the whip, this is all leading to an election and hopefully a Suposi-Tory majority, because the bad news is I live in the part of Canada that will separate if the 62 Percenters get in. Shucks, that sucks. Danielle is a lot more focussed and smarter than all three of the Three Stooges together. Stelmach, wha, who?? Yesterday’s man.
Do yourselves a favour, Ontario, get rid of McGuinty and his style of government for everybody’s sake.
It’s one thing to adjust our policies according to what our giant neighbour does but not when their policy is the wrong one!! Obama is wrong on global warming. We should not blindly follow the USA on this issue. Sometimes, we need to take the lead. Canada, take the lead!!
I don’t expect the Liberals to say a word. They are for Kyoto. They are in the thick of it!!
The great thinker is “poised to become the next Prime Minister of Canada”? Obviously someone hasn’t bothered to follow much about Canadian politics. Appears they’re busy drifting and dreaming, thinking thoughts and oblivious to what the hell is going on.
How about the Quebec poll mentioned on Tommy’s PeePee this evening where the Libs and Cons are tied at 20% and the Dips are at 17%? Iffy doesn’t seem to be catching fire in Quebec.
