Is this the light that Peter Donolo is trying to uncover from under the Liberal bushel?
Who’s bright idea was it to use unproven, fear-mongering allegations of torture to raise money for the Liberal party?
Who knew what when? Did it go straight to the top? Did Michael Ignatieff approve Rocco Rossi’s fundraising letter? Did Donolo?
What kind of leader does nothing to prevent this offensive garbage? It is beyond disgusting.
Canadians deserves a sincere apology.

Learning from Colvin – Post

The Liberals want Canadians to give them money so they can “prove” that our brave Canadian soldiers, their commanders and our government are war criminals????
That’s sure to have the terrorist organizations, Taliban, Hezbolla, anti-war sympathisers and so called”human rights” professors like Attaran opening their wallets.
Despicable.
The best part of yesterday’s testimony was saying,
these prisoners had killed or tried to kill our troops and were covered with explosive dust when captured. That point must be made loud and clear.
Mary T – I don’t know if I’d use the phrases ‘best part’, but I know what you mean. It sure does shoot down the ‘poor farmers’ testimony.
I don’t know about anyone else but I am sick of watching so called ” human rights” professor Amir Attaran lecturing Canada and our Prime Minister . Iffy brought him to Canada from Harvard and and now he is an expert. If he had lived Canada longer than 5 years he might have a bit of credibilty. I agree this whole smear facilitated by the MSM and national Press Gallery is dispicable!
And when is the CBC going to how the MP who called general Gauthier a war criminal!!! Canadians are waiting for an apology.
I’m sure that General Gauthier is waiting for an apology as well.
Is there such thing as Treason any more or is that crime now eviscerated by Human Rights and our Charter?
Is Attaran a citizen of Canada?
Maybe we should have more than passing concern about who is getting tenured to teach in our universities.
Perhaps it would be appropriate for someone in the HOC who knows who called General Gauthier a war criminal to demand an apology. This is not something that should be ignored, it’s beyond politics, it’s a personal attack which sullies the General’s reputation.
Down and Dirty AGWGreen.
Re: Liberal Iffy and his Harvard buddies.
Instead of “czar”: Commissar.
Using commissar brings out the socialist/communist aura of O’Iffy and their Commissars.

…-
“Obama’s Science Czar John Holdren involved in unwinding “Climategate” scandal
Lift up a rock and another snake comes slithering out from the ongoing University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU) scandal, now riding as “Climategate”.
Obama Science Czar John Holdren is directly involved in CRU’s unfolding Climategate scandal. In fact, according to files released by a CEU hacker or whistleblower, Holdren is involved in what Canada Free Press (CFP) columnist Canadian climatologist Dr. Tim Ball terms “a truculent and nasty manner that provides a brief demonstration of his lack of understanding, commitment on faith and willingness to ridicule and bully people”.
“The files contain so much material that it is going to take some time t o put it all in context,” says Ball. “However, enough is already known to underscore their explosive nature. It is already clear the entire claims and positions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are based on falsified manipulated material and is therefore completely compromised.
“The fallout will be extensive as material continues to emerge. Reputations of the scientists involved are already destroyed, however fringe players will continue to be identified and their reputations destroyed or sullied.”
While the mainstream media is bending into pretzels to keep the scandal under the rug, Climategate is already the biggest scientific scandal in history because of the global policy implications.”

Under the Islamic Veil: Faces Disfigured By Acid
These photos show what happens to real women who wear the Islamic Veil. The photos depict horrifying hate and the unbearable suffering it inflicts upon female innocents.
Read on.

Although the above story relates to PAKISTAN WOMEN,
our troops fight for the rights of womem and girls to flourish in society yet the opposition parties turn a blind eye on them.
Women have rights not only detainees and so far no one stands ‘for them”
God Bless our troops.
Amir Attaran was born in California to immigrants from Iran. He became a “naturalized” Canadian.
Of interest, from Wiki, this man has been making personal publicity hay over the “detainee” issue. It is his little ticket to media “fame”.
He is just like the climate”scientists” who will go to any lengths to twist facts to suit their motives. Attaran is also a close personal friend to Ignatieff.
From Wikipedia: “In February 2007, he (Attaran) received significant media coverage in Canada when he brought forward testimony by Afghan prisoners captured by Canadians and handed to the custody of the Afghan National Army, who said they had later been abused by the ANA. [2] [1] [3] (See also Canadian Afghan detainee abuse scandal.)”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amir_Attaran
Everyone agrees that these are terrorists not prisoners of war, who are murdering innocent people and killing our brave soldiers. The Geneva Convention does not cover terrorists.
Canadians want an end to the war as does the rest of the world, but we want measures to help secure our victory and we must abide by Afghanistan’s agreement on the war.
No one but no one is shedding a tear for the terrorists except the left and Islamists.
I hope the testimony today also reinforces the fact these prisoners were/had killed our troops. That fact seems to have been missed by the media coverage.
As for Colvin having free reign of the area, that was also called into question. If he saw and heard what he says he did, why didn’t his military guard also hear and see the same thing.
Remember Codere going over there and not even allowed to go anywhere.
Wonder what Colvin was promised to do what he is doing. It couldn’t be a senate seat, or plumb ambassadorship, in the far distant future. Who appointed him to his position and when is it over.
I have to go out for a while today, but will leave comment approval in the hands of my trusted in-house assistant, who has become very savvy on politics.
Lawrence Martin obviously got the memo about playing dirty. I guess McKenna’s comments were all part of the overall scheme.
On the subject of yesterday’s testimony, I am appalled at the way the generals’ statements are being brushed off. Colvin is taken at face value, but for the generals to be believed, the government must apparently release the memos.
On the other hand, given the vicious comments by Hebert last night, and the overall lack of coverage of the generals compared to Colvin last week, the media must be afraid that this whole story is going south on them. Certainly if you read the comments on the CTV stories, most people seem to think this is just yet another trumped up story, and they are sick and tired of them.
Hiller’s testimony yesterday, made the left look cowardly, small and insignificant. The liberals just don’t get it yet, but they should. All Canadians see when they look at the liberal party, is a party that has more concern for terrorist, then they do for our Canadian sons and daughters, who would give up their lives to protect us.
What I liked about General Hillier’s testimony is how he started off by describing the extreme challenges our military was dealing with at that time. Laurie Hawn, on Rutherford, made the same point–that it all has to be put in context.
I would put it that we have to cut our military SOME slack.
This was our first real combat experience since Korea.
They (including Harper’s newly sworn in Cabinet) were all rookies, who are going to make rookie mistakes. And then there’s the phrase: the perfect is the enemy of the good.
These are all concepts that are foreign to Liberals (and the media), as they overly nitpick anything and everything. Iggy, of all people, should know that many decisions were made which were the “lesser evil”
re Attaran: Steve Janke did some really great research into his connections to Iggy from their Harvard days … here
“He [Attaran] ran afoul of an influential faculty member and the school’s administration over a line of academic inquiry he insisted on pursuing, and found himself about to be booted out.
He brought his troubles to Mr. Ignatieff, who gave him office space and mentoring support until he could find another academic home. “Michael stuck up for me against some extremely nasty attacks,” Prof. Attaran says.

Come on everyone, we did it last year……”LET’S ROLL”….
Have the Liberals gone mentally unfit to be sitting in the parliament of Canada? First they make spurious, snide accusations saying the Forces are guilty of war crimes then they put out an add for funds saying they need to find out the truth about government knowledge of the alleged torture. Do they not now have the truth they want? Haven’t they accepted the word of Colvin because he speaks to their agenda? How do they explain away their wild accusations to the Military and their families?
How much money will the Liberals charge to apologize to the Forces and the people of Canada?
The political left have reached an all time despicable low, this fund raiser is akin to dancing on our fallen’s graves for sport.
Yes, rose, and the media are dancing right along with them, that’s close to what we’d expect in the politics of banana republics. They’re going to desperate measures to oust a government elected by the people. We saw a start of that with the coalition.
Joanne, ‘please’ show this and count the blows

Sigh…. once again the Lieberal “hidden agenda” is brought out the “scandal du jour” nevermind that it slags the brave men and women that are risking their lives daily fighting a cowardly enemy that will attack schoolchidren, delights in roadside bombs. I could go on, the agreement to hand over detainees was made by a Liberal Government, with no oversight. The Conservatives have adressed that issue. But hey one person is making accusations. It would appear that there is no proof, I am begining to understand that if the “Lamestream media” thinks it’s a story, it isn’t. That includes “Global Warming” “Climate change” Copenhagenand of course POTUS Obama. The blatherings of rich inviro-mentalists. I no longer buy newspapers, can’t watch the news without using “industrial-strength” language, we are lucky to have the internet. I have e-mailed my MP to ask why we are not hearing more about the Climate Fraud, I am awaiting his answer. Keep sending e-mails folks!
Despicable, this is.
And that video of Iffy? Man, that guy is a treasure trove of stupid comments. Seeing as he was out of the country for so long, he had no idea what HIS PARTY was up to all those years, slashing military budgets, etc.
Shame on him. He has turned himself into a complete joke.

Poll: Go VOTE
Do you think Prime Minister Stephen Harper should attend the Copenhagen climate-change conference?
http://chuckercanuck.blogspot.com/2009/11/overboarding-is-torture.html
‘A’ Team Liberals and the LibLuvin media think it’s time for the #2 pick from the ‘B’ Team to ‘start’ to get down and dirty.
So does that mean ‘targeted charactor assasination’ attack ads?
Libs have been dragging up ‘Harper history’ since 2003, and scandal-gate galore, since elected in 2006.
Is there something new they can smear PMSH with, that can actually be said outside of Question Period?
Chucker’s points out:
”..Meanwhile, our soldiers know the best way to protect Canada from torture allegations from the Taliban is to shoot and kill the Taliban when encountered on the battlefield…”
Bec, ‘fraid voting on this one at a G&M poll is a lost cause.
Do you guys remember the public inquiry into how a Somali man was killed by our Airborne Division? Do you guys also remember how Chretien and the Liberals suddenly and unceremoniously shut down that public inquiry and why they did that? Now members of the Liberal party have the nerve to DEMAND a public inquiry on detainee abuse via “evidence” that is being contradicted on a now daily basis before a public inquiry has even started. Now they’re even trying to raise funds for their warchest off this issue.
One time, at the end of the day, I could still respect that the Liberal party’s vision for the country was different but that didn’t mean that it was necessarily bad. This is just despicable. I REALLY hope that one of the planks of the Tories’ next election platform is the elimination of the vote subsidy. No more quarter; the Liberal party needs to be put out of the political business permanently. That way the NDP can move into the Official Oppostion role that they’ve been preforming anyway. Now while their ideas are half baked, at least the NDP have the courage of their principles and convictions to stand by, no matter how unpopular they and their ideas are at times. Renewal means nothing to the Liberal party because they have no interest in taking their time in the wilderness to renew themselves. They either can’t or refuse to. Power means too much for them to do that. They need to go, enough is enough.
Hey.. don’t sell Michael short. I think he will be our best support at the end of the day. As I blogged today, I think we should give him the last word.. paraphrasing only slightly from his article, “If Torture Works…”:
CBC Newsworld just announced that The Prime Minister IS going to Copenhagen.
Oh.. and red the Toronto Star today.. once you get by the stupid headline, the meat of the article regarding what Richard Colvin was passing on..
And..
And another thing. It is one thing to say whatever it takes to get elected. All parties do that in one fashion or another. However, our brave soldiers aredying over there for something they believe in and their very capable superiors are referred to as liars by second and third hand accounts, as if they are war criminals. These are the people that are mouthing this when THEY were the government of the day and when this all started. AND NOW they’re trying to fundraise for their party off that? I’m sorry, that is evil. There is no better word to describe it.
I believe the Liberals & the media are hyping the prisoners’ story for another reason as well. That reason is the global warming fraud. They want to keep from Canadian minds the fact that the Liberals and the media have been and are fully behind the global warming BS. The global warming fraud is nowhere to be seen on cbc, ctv and global. Last night the “at issue” panel spent the whole time on one issue: the prisoners. Rex Murphy followed with what I’d call an intellectually dishonest commentary on the prisoner issue. It’s been quite some time since I listened to these guys. Sad to say, they haven’t changed. You walk away disgusted after listening to them. Sadly, too many Canadians listen and buy into their bias on a regular basis. We are in desperate need of a new national broadcaster. If only some of our best radio talk show hosts and writers could be at the forefront of such a network!!
Should be some live coverage on CTV News Channel and CBC Newsnet of Afghan committee hearings today (Thursday)
LIVE ONLINE On CPAC
In Committee from the House of Commons
3:30pm ET / 12:30pm PT
Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan
David Mulroney, the current Canadian ambassador to China and former deputy minister of the Afghanistan Task Force, testifies on his knowledge of Afghan detainee treatment in 2006 and 2007.
The Liberal MP ( since he was not named, and he has not come forward, everyone is suspect) who suggested, that General Gauthier and two other named officers had lied, and were negligent; in effect, calling them “war criminals” needs to do a lot of explaining. General Gauthier told the committee yesterday he and his wife heard those comments broadcast on national TV. This is defamation of a career military officer and the MP should be sued so Gauthier can defend his reputation. The MP should be forced to make his charges outside the House of Commons by the leader, if he is any kind of leader, and has a handle on his caucus. What is more, Ignatieff should have the Liberal MP step forward so all MP’s are not smeared by these baseless and irresponsible remarks. The media should demand this in fairness to all MP’s , General Gauthier and all members of armed forces and so Canadians know his identity (why should we be left in the dark).
Fact that the MP has not come out an identified himself is a cowardly act in itself, let alone the fact he won’t make that charge outside the House of Commons, and he should be outed by the leader and exposed for the fraud that he is.
Indeed, our Generals provided some much needed context to this debate and it is about time.
Although they don’t quite come out and say it, many of the talking heads dominating this debate thus far seem to think we should feel “ashamed” for taking prisoners from the battlefield, that we are the “bad guys” because we detained some “poor innocent farmers” who ran out of ammo during a firefight. It is a distasteful undercurrent running beneath this debate that I am sick of and our Generals did a good job of illuminating it yesterday.
We hear them saying over and over “this has nothing to do with our soldiers” as if it were possible to separate the two. So married are they to partisan idealism, they insist on perfection where none is certain to exist because it helps them ignore the good where their ideology forbids them to find it. Their country is at war, but it isn’t their war and to prove it, the benefit of a doubt is not given not to our own, but to our enemy. Disgusting.
There is no “perfect” in war. If there was, we wouldn’t have lost 12 of our own during Operation Medusa. We would not have witnessed an entire company of our soldiers rendered instantly “combat-ineffective” when an A-10 strafed too closely to the front line. In a perfect war, you would not be ordered to press on before knowing the fate of 30 of your brothers. In a perfect war, precision munitions would not have claimed 31 civilians.
In war, there is much we should feel badly about; however, removing the enemy from the battlefield is definitely not one of them. That is a good thing no matter how you slice it.

“but will leave comment approval in the hands of my trusted in-house assistant, who has become very savvy on politics.”
…….And a very fine job indeed!! Bravo, “in-house assistant”…..
I see no upside for the Liberals in persuing this latest “scandal”. As mentioned by many, the sight of Generals testimony against committee Liberals’ questions, is not one to win hearts and minds for the LPC. Any enquiry, or release of documents is sure to highlight the ineptitude of the previous Martin regime. They ended handling of prisoners to our American NATO allies, because of cries from the left regarding their treatment. The alternative to hand them over to the other side, in a barbaric civil war was deemed to be better. Not surprisingly, this turned out not to be true, but what do they suggest be done? House them in Canada, where they would come under the Charter?
The Liberals and the left in general have never articulated a sound policy on prisoner exchange. The only policy is to fault the government whatever they do.
I’m back now. Yes, my In-House assistant did very well indeed!
Lorraine, my assistant was concerned about a comment that you left and waited til I got back. After reviewing it, I’ve decided not to publish it due to possible libelous concerns. Perhaps you could rephrase it. Thanks.
Oh yeah. And I had the BEST afternoon Christmas shopping with my grandson & daughter!

Don’t bother watching PP this evening, Taaawwwda McCharles is hosting. She ahd as first guest Globe reporter Graeme Smith who commented on the Generals as being “jovial”, he wasn’t too pleased about that.
Guess we just have to get into our thick skulls reporters know all, including how to run a war, how to run government, exactly what the PM should be doing on all issues… they’re just bursting with knowledge.
It appears the only person the opposition and their buddies in the media is Colvin, he’s their man, no point in calling any more witnesses.
It appears Boob Rae is the man on the file. Iggy isn’t up to it?
BTW, Taaawwwnda McCharles is arguing with Conservative Laurie Hawn right now,he’s not speaking to their agenda.
Could better friends of the Taliban be found anywhere in the wet than among the Opposition parties in our HOC and almost the entire media?

S’cuse the double post, strange things happen.
Isn’t that a coincidence, Iggy is in Quebec to shoot off about things environmental. Guess Petey D shuffled him off there thinking he could get some traction on a subject dear to Quebecer’s. They may not still be so rabid on the subject now that Kyoto is dead. At least the Harper government is not buying into sending money to buy carbon credits anywhere.

That is why you should listen to ‘a REAL REPORTER’from on the ground in Afghanistan, interviewed on Rutherford today. These other ‘he said/she said’ Liberal apologists are simply incompetent and from my observations, they absolutely hate admitting their errors or rush to judgement. (see my comment @2:22pm for link)
After watching Mulroney speak today and the various QandA’s, I think that we could likely place money on WHICH LIBERAL defamed the Generals.
It is astonishing how the media is able to spin these testimonies.
After watching them all, the usual suspects, drop words, rebuild sentences, intent and in fact, recreate the whole testimony to fit into their tidy little mean spirited agenda.
PS guys, don’t forget to write the PM and OLO re Copenhagen.

They represent more than 3,000 researchers, including experts studying how rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are altering the planet’s climate and ecosystems.
Many are also federal scientists including oceanographer Bill Crawford, president of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society and a senior researcher at Fisheries and Oceans Canada.”

More proof, as if we need any, of media bias….If the situation were reversed and it was a Conservative who defamed the Generals we’d know the name instantly.
they absolutely hate admitting their errors or rush to judgement.
Bec, that’s exactly what I’m thinking. Somehow they have to save face and they’re blowing smoke right now.
After Mulroney’s testimony, Body Bag Bob climbed down off that high Afghan horse.
Once again, the Libs, their Luvin media and the opps came out on the wrong side of a faux scandal.
This one was serious accusations of our military and government being complicite in war crimes.
I usually take great joy (being slightly partisan, haha) when the Liberals fall flat on their faces.
But this time, I feel sadness at the spectacle.
Liberals went way too far playing gotcha on Harper,
they defamed our soldiers and the team around them, the very people that love this country so deeply, they pay the ultimate price.
They defamed Canada, hoping it would hurt Harper internationally.

Tomorrow’s news today:

Australian Labour Party ETS Bill (cap & trade)in question. Up to 10 Liberal opposition Party MP’s resign from the Liberal Party over passage of this bill.
Joanne — “Check Against Delivery” is put on every speech and announcement — that is usually given in person. Bec is right — to make sure the person stays on message. But, it has nothing to do with any particular political party. They all include that. I had to do it for the Tory MPP I worked for. Mind you I always found it strange, but figured it was for the media to make sure his facts were correct — as stated in the print copy.
Anyway, it is a communications protocol, like putting a specific number at the bottom of news releases to show “the end.”

>>> “If there’s money to be found in carbon reductions, we want that money to stay inside our province so we can use it to further green our economy and develop jobs,” Mr. McGuinty told reporters. “We didn’t develop this economic value so that it could be confiscated from us and given to another part of the country.”

“Climategate e-mails sweep America, may scuttle Barack Obama’s Cap and Trade laws
Just a few considerations in addition to previous remarks about the explosion of the East Anglia Climategate e-mails in America. The reaction is growing exponentially there. Fox News, Barack Obama’s Nemesis, is now on the case, trampling all over Al Gore’s organic vegetable patch and breaking the White House windows. It has extracted some of the juiciest quotes from the e-mails and displayed them on-screen, with commentaries.
Joe Public, coast-to-coast, now knows, thanks to the clowns at East Anglia’s CRU, just how royally he has been screwed.
Senator James Inhofe’s Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works has written to all the relevant US Government agencies, acquainting them with the nature of the e-mails. But the real car crash for Obama is on Capitol Hill where it is now confidently believed his Cap and Trade climate legislation is toast. It was always problematic; but with a growing awakening to the scale of the scientific imposture sweeping the world, as far as the Antipodes, the clever money is on Cap and Trade laws failing to pass, with many legislators sceptical and the mid-term elections looming ever closer.
At the more domestic level, the proposed ban on incandescent light bulbs, so supinely accepted in this servile state of Britain, is now provoking a huge backlash in America. US citizens do not like the government coming into their houses and putting their lights out. Voters may not understand the cut and thrust of climate debate at the technical level, but they know when the Man from Washington has crossed their threshold uninvited.
The term that Fox News is now applying to the Climategate e-mails is “game-changer”. For the first time, Anthropogenic Global Warming cranks are on the defensive, losing their cool and uttering desperate mantras such as “You can be sceptical, not denial.” Gee, thanks, guys. In fact we shall be whatever we want to be, without asking your permission.
At this rate, Copenhagen is going to turn into a comedy convention with the real world laughing at these liars. Now is the time to mount massive resistance to the petty tyrants and hit them where it hurts – in the wallet. Further down the line there may be, in many countries, a question of criminal prosecution of anybody who has falsified data to secure funds and impose potentially disastrous fiscal restraints on the world in deference to a massive hoax. It’s a new world out there, Al, and, as you may have noticed, the climate is very cold indeed.”

This isn’t about Afghan detainees. The Liberals couldn’t care less about prisoners being tortured.
This is about what the Prime Minister knew and when he knew it. They want to catch him in a lie.
All the rest is superfluous.
The fact that they’ll say or do almost anything to achieve that goal is a sad reflection on themselves and how bereft they are of anything legitimate to talk about.
Oh my, what will Iffy do?
Whipped vote?
Tories set to issue HST challenge
A government document obtained by Reuters on Thursday revealed that the Conservatives intended to put the official opposition Liberal Party on the spot over proposals to let provinces merge their sales taxes with the federal tax into a harmonized value-added tax.
Parliament would be asked to confirm the right of provinces to choose such a tax, and if the Liberals say no, the issue would not be revisited — with the implication that the firestorm it has created would die.

If the media and the opposition can smear all our troops as war criminals, why can’t we blame all 76 liberals for yelling that comment. I am sure it wasn’t the Speaker, so I only count 76 possible villians. The PM should demand that every one of them stand and apologize to the General and to the Canadian people. Was it a woman or a male voice that shouted. Was it in english with a french accent? If it was from the front bench, it would be noticed, so eliminate those. Not many left to blame.
The General should sue the entire caucus, and the liberal party. Wonder how the General would make out with the HRC.
Thanks Sandy & Bec. I always wondered about that. Now I know.
The Liberals have taken themselves out of contention as being anywhere near fit to govern with this latest gotcha exercise. It’s all about tarring the government, nothing more. The armchair generals in the media are simply their trumpets in their war against their own government. What else can one call it? They’re accusing the government we elected to govern and the Forces who protect us of war crimes, in some jurisdictions that might well be called treason.
It’s a dangerous game their playing and the scary part is they don’t realize it. They think they can play this juvenile gotcha stuff and no one will notice, not even the enemy. They think the government can release documents for all to see when that’s just not the way governments operate when at war. The opposition cannot be trusted, they want documents to comb over to find more fodder for their gotcha bag to USE against the government. If they wanted to prove themselves fit to govern they might go hide out, unify themselves and come up with some kind of platform. That’s not even on their wavelength even with their new Smart Fellow, P Donolo.
