Picking up steam

The National Post has now picked up the CRU hacked/leaked email story.

First we have Terence CorcoranAfter Copenhagen, the end of the science:

Clearly climate science is not Louis Pasteur in his lab or Alexander Fleming searching for antibiotics and discovering penicillin. Providing the proof for man-made global warming is big business and big politics, backed by hundreds of billions of dollar and deep ideological convictions. Have the convictions overtaken the search for scientific proof? The CRU emails, while no smoking gun of fraud and malfeasance, can only add to the already mounting scientific and popular skepticism.

The coming end of certainty over man-made warming was already a possibility before the CRU events. The idea that the science is not settled, or that it is incomplete and uncertain, shows up in many places, even among the true believers

The Post also offers Climategate which provides some background to the story, and Myron Ebell’s CRU’s climate ‘tricks’, which I’m interpreting to be a sarcastic parody of the Warmists’ response.

At the very least the Climate-Change pushers have to acknowledge that the science is NOT settled and there is plenty of room for healthy skepticism.

Now we’re looking forward to hearing from others in Canadian media. What are you waiting for?  Or do you have so much invested that you are afraid to confront the possibility that you may have been duped?

Meanwhile, ChuckerCanuk opines on what Canada would look like now if Stephane Dion had managed to implement his Green Shift.

Bam! Now go to sleep.

Tuesday Update:

Lots of good stuff this morning. While Al Gore continues to preach his propaganda at the Red Star and blasts Alberta’s Oil Sands (”…But, you know, junkies find veins in their toes”), we find that even  George Monbiot is admitting that he should have been more skeptical (via Watts up with That – H/T Daryl).

As Andrew Bolt writes:

Scepticism is the essential disposition of our craft, yet too many journalists have abandoned it. Remember: the opposite of sceptical is gullible.

CTV seems to be supporting the Warmists with a token report discussing hackers cherry-picking data out of context. Perhaps they should check out Monbiot. (H/T Springer who has a link to a Glenn Beck report)

Obama’s Science Czar John Holdren involved in unwinding “Climategate” scandalCanada Free Press (H/T Bruce):

...Obama Science Czar John Holdren is directly involved in CRU’s unfolding Climategate scandal. In fact, according to files released by a CEU hacker or whistleblower, Holdren is involved in what Canada Free Press (CFP) columnist Canadian climatologist Dr. Tim Ball terms “a truculent and nasty manner that provides a brief demonstration of his lack of understanding, commitment on faith and willingness to ridicule and bully people”…

Global warming with the lid offWall Street Journal:

Some of those mentioned in the emails have responded to our requests for comment by saying they must first chat with their lawyers. Others have offered legal threats and personal invective. Still others have said nothing at all. Those who have responded have insisted that the emails reveal nothing more than trivial data discrepancies and procedural debates.

Yet all of these nonresponses manage to underscore what may be the most revealing truth: That these scientists feel the public doesn’t have a right to know the basis for their climate-change predictions, even as their governments prepare staggeringly expensive legislation in response to them...

This is huge.. little by little the wall are coming down of the Global Warming scam.

………….Even George Monbiot, one of the fiercest media propagandists of the warming faith, admits he should have been more sceptical and says the science now needs to be rechecked:

It’s no use pretending that this isn’t a major blow. The emails extracted by a hacker from the climatic research unit at the University of East Anglia could scarcely be more damaging. I am now convinced that they are genuine, and I’m dismayed and deeply shaken by them………..

From Andrew Bolt, my “mate” down under at the Herald Sun, comes this surprise. I’ll have to say, it is to George Monbiot’s credit to do this. I embrace his first statement, because it succinctly sums up the situation:

It’s no use pretending that this isn’t a major blow. The emails extracted by a hacker from the climatic research unit at the University of East Anglia could scarcely be more damaging(1). I am now convinced that they are genuine, and I’m dismayed and deeply shaken by them.

The process of reconstruction, of rising from the ashes, of overcoming the trauma of having been deceived, exploited and manipulated – is drawn-out. 6. Powell Lucas says:

The really sad thing about the global warming hoax is the negative effect it may have on legitimate environmental concerns. Once the public comes to the realization of how badly they were used they may become skeptical about any scientific pronouncements.
I know, in my case, ever since the global warming scam first appeared with its, obviously, overblown junk science hyperbole, it has got me questioning scientific data that I accepted as fact.
To wit: Was there really an acid rain problem? Has there been any follow-up data to show that the measures taken has had any appreciable effect.
How big a problem was the ozone hole? Has it been reduced since CFCs were eliminated?
Was DDT and Malathion really has harmful to the environment as was claimed? Is there any proof that the supposedly deleterious effects of these chemicals have been alleviated by their prohibition?
These all may have been legitimate concerns, and the elimination of the suspect causes may have have resolved the problems. However, in light of the biggest fraud in history, I am now questioning all this consensual scientific research. Perhaps I was being played for a sucker. If nothing else, I can thank the warmists for making me a scientific skeptic.

    …-

Climate Science Corrupted – by John McLean

How the IPCC’s sponsor, the UNEP, and key IPCC individuals have misled Governments into supporting the notion of manmade warming

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established under the sponsorship of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The UNEP’s belief in manmade warming in the late 1970’s led to a stage-managed conference in Villach in 1985, which in turn led to the political decision to form the IPCC.

The IPCC rose to prominence because people with clear bias were appointed to key positions where they could influence the development of the entire organization. Bert Bolin, the first chairman of the IPCC was already heavily committed to the notion of manmade warming having worked previously for the UNEP, WMO, the Brundtland Report, the SCOPE 29 report (on which the first IPCC report was largely based) and, very crucially, having documented that the Villach conference reached a consensus that manmade emissions of carbon dioxide were to blame for variations in climate. John Houghton, the first chairman of the IPCC working group that attributes blame for climate change, was assisted in his assertions by his staff at the UK Met Office and by a very supportive UK government.

The other key factor for the IPCC was the adoption of the UNEP’s methods of coercing governments and the general public. Those methods included (a) the use of the environmentalists’ catch-all the “precautionary principle”, (b) a penchant for creating models based on partially complete scientific understanding and then citing the output of those models as evidence, (c) the politicisation of science through the implied claim that consensus determines scientific truth, (d) the use of strong personalities and people of influence, and (e) the manipulation of the media and public opinion. Directly and indirectly these methods greatly influenced political parties whether they held government or not

None of these UNEP techniques provide scientific justification of the IPCC’s principal claim, which considered dispassionately is very weak. Not only is it based on the output of climate models, that the IPCC shows us are built according to incomplete knowledge and therefore cannot be accurate, but also on the opinions of those who use such models as if somehow the models were credible and scientific truth should be determined by consensus and opinion.

It is long overdue that the IPCC was called for what it is – a political body driven not by the evidence that it pretends exists but by the beliefs and philosophies of the UNEP, the IPCC’s sponsor, and by the initial holders of key IPCC positions.

What people fail to understand is that the IPCC’s mission was to prove AGW (human-caused warming). It was not unbiased climate research that considered all of the variables fairly. Everything (research, grants, peer review ,advocacy, political solutions etc.) flowed from the premise that “it’s the industrial countries and their citizens fault” and the only solution is to give us more money and power. “Us” in this case is the UN and their political and corporate affiliates. The climate “experts”, the MSM and environmental activists were just tools to achieve the big player’s nefarious goals.

Uh, no. They would drag my sorry butt into Federal court if need be, fine me, charge me interest, late penalties and in the end toss me into jail for doing so. So why would a government believe that a “trick” of data manipulation justifies them imposing a financial burden on you regarding the subject of “saving the planet”? They suddenly support falsified data, manipulated data, or any of the “tricks” a few climate scientists used to influence political decisions?

Tim Flannery, chairman of the Copehagen Climate Council says the publication of documents taken from the British CRU suggesting some global warming data may have been manipulated only “reveals the depth to which climate skeptics will go to influence the course of events. … It does nothing to throw doubt on the climate science”. It is the last act of desperation by heretics standing in the way of the big green doctrine. But the main response to suspcions that the whole thing has been cooked up has been to simply ignore criticism and focus on enacting new taxes and obtaining further pledges. Efforts to place the world under a Green Framework are well underway and nothing is going to stop it now. Next stop: Copenhagen. The AFP reports:

the United States is to announce concrete targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions as pressure mounts on polluters to find a formula for success two weeks ahead of a crucial climate summit. …

An emissions target from the United States, the world’s number two polluter and wealthiest country, was essential for the success of the conference, according to United Nations climate chief Yvo de Boer. “The key issue here at the moment is the United States. My sense is Obama will be in a position to come to Copenhagen with a target and a financial contribution,” he said in Brussels on Monday.

The sole roadblock may be the American voter. The global warmists privately fear that the US Congress will stand in the way of providing any real teeth to the whatever concessions the Obama delegation is prepared to make at the Danish capital. The Americas Society held a public discussion attended by a number of insiders to assess what would happen next. According to Rubén Kraiem of Covington & Burling the Green allies in the US Congress had best push through the needed measures before 2010 because the prospects of success after the elections are small.” (more)

Seriously, We must reach a watershed moment where the left is called out on their designs across the board and they are rejected, marginalized or jailed.

This “international consensus” of “climate change” power players cannot even add up to 3 million people, useful idiots aside. At their core, I bet they are less than 100k. It should be easy to crush them.

We must get past the illusion that they have the power over us we imagine that they do. No longer can we pussyfoot around with the left, international or otherwise. This has to stop. They now strike at our very hearts. “Environmental target” will ruin us. Letting foreign powers “set targets” is treason pure and simple. In a same world, this would be grounds for impeachment. This just proves what we already know. It proves that the radical left will stoop to any level for nothing more than aggresive, naked grabs at total power over all of us. If the truth gets in the way, they simply hide it away, and it “disappears” as though it never existed in the first place. Just like the Communist Party used to erase people from pictures in the old Soviet Union. Anyone with whom the party disagreed with, or those people who could expose the lies of the Communists, were simply “erased” from ever existing. Today’s radical leftists are absolutely no different.

Obama is slowly succeeding in his attempt to destroy America from within. If he goes to Copenhagen to sign the latest “man-made global warming” treaty, in lieu of the evidence just released on the Internet, no doubt can be left as to what this man’s real objective for our country is.

Does anyone else get the feeling that CBC is an enemy of Canada and Canadians? Doing their best to tarnish and smear all that we are proud of. Working to pit one part of Canada against another and thumbing their noses at us all the way!!!
