Via The Hill Times we learn a few things about Iffy (Ignatieff’s to do list: sharpen message and toughen up):
…Liberal strategist Warren Kinsella, who has been assisting the OLO with rapid response communications, said Mr. Donolo will be effective at drawing out Mr. Ignatieff’s skills as a communicator.
“Peter is considered to be one of the best communicators around. … And I can guarantee you that things are going to get even better on that front. Michael is a big part of that. I’ve worked with amazing communicators, like Chrétien and McGuinty, and I regard Ignatieff as top-notch, too. He has a clear, crisp way of communicating that respects the intelligence of his audience—and never dodges the question,” Mr. Kinsella said…
Ah yes. Clear and crisp. Respects the intelligence of his audience. Let me count the ways.
1. Iggy’s Asbestos lie:
“I’m probably walking right off the cliff into some unexpected public policy bog of which I’m unaware, but if asbestos is bad for Parliamentarians in the Parliament of Canada, it just has to be bad for everybody else,” he said. “Our export of this dangerous product overseas has got to stop.
“What I said in answer to a question is that we have an obligation to international agreements to the countries that we export to, to make them aware of the risks. That is all I said.“
2. From Getting Iraq Wrong (H/T Wilson):
”Nothing is personal in politics, because politics is theater.
It is part of the job to pretend to have emotions that you do not actually feel.”
3. Canada’s Flag: “a passing imitation of a beer label” – ChuckerCanuk
4. Compromising positions: Ignatieff and the HST – Macleans
I know we can find more examples of Iffy’s astonishing communications skills.

Michael Ignatieff’s new Director of Communications has an interesting background - Stephen Taylor

What is that saying, if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.
How many communicators will Iffy use to finally get the right message out there. I don’t think anyone can change the perception we have of him.
“…………..and never dodges the question,” Mr. Kinsella said…”
Except, you know, when it comes to policies. Then its “wait and see”.
It is only when Ignatieff has to “clarify” past but presently inconvenient positions that he doesn’t “dodge the question”. But that is merely damage control, when he really doesn’t have a choice.
Iggy has got me confused, Iffy communicated he is American when he spoke in the states, now he confuses me by telling Canadians he is a Canadian. All the time I thought he was a Brit.
It’s obvious that the new Director of Communications should be Warren Kinsella
I liked it when he “communicated” this: “”and there is only one thing we can do about this and that is live the way we are supposed to live. As our constitution commands us. Being an American is not easy, it is hard. We are required as a country to keep some very serious promises. We are judged by a high standard the one that was crafted for ourselves in the founding document of this republic.”
Good times.
The great communicator is polling 17% for best PM,
and that’s after the LibLuvin msm gave him a fighting chance to show his stuff, even trying to create Iffymania.
Iffy failed all expectations.
PMSH was never given a fraction of Iffy’s media support when he first came to lead the Official Opposition.
Donolo has stepped in and wiped out Iffy’s entire team, and no doubt is writing a ‘sellable’ Liberal platform
what’s that tell yah about Iffy’s judgement?
Non existant. Not a leader.
So we will be treated to the new Liberal show,
puppeteer Donolo presents marionette Ignatieff….
Warren Kinsella is so full of himself he makes me puke. He is riding on a past of being associated with Chretien and although Chretien was a winner ( because the Tory vote was split and post Mulroney) he is to be more associated with David Dingwall for whom he worked and the Sponsorship scandal where crimes were actually committed. Now he is all about stunts and gimmicks and is a reason why Iggy has no policy to offer Canadians. He should have been the first to be turfed from OLO.

I am very HAPPY the cheerleaders in the MSM for the Liberals give their friends “AIR TIME”.
In sampling, you quickly discover a failure. The public has clearly “sampled” latest LPOC leader for nearly a year. Everytime he attempts to force an election the results come back negative.
Canadians have saved over $ 350 million by rejecting the lastest LPOC sample. They will try to repackage him again, add some new storylines, but a “failed” product is just that.
They may have failed to run a proper focus group outside the own base for appeal, trust etc. I read that recently in some article on their policy stances.(No proper research)
In Costco people return for the 2nd sample when it is good, in this case no one is returning for a second look.
Next time they should test the “sample” on smaller groups before the rollout to a National market.
Iggyisms:
Since Joanne has a full plate, I took one for the “team” this morning, fixing up the Iggyisms and putting them back on the Header Bar.
Re the Header Bar:
The space available for this theme/template when visitors are using Internet Explorer as a browser is less than when using Firefox. As a result, the About and Contact are now together.
Re Iggyisms Tips:
I would recommend regulars leave tips regarding Iggyisms in the comments of that page, so Joanne can keep them in one place.
Have a good day everyone.
Thanks for doing all that Sandy! It sure adds to this topic.

“From tragic to ridiculous in Mumbai
John Ibbitson
MUMBAI – There had been a speech to business leaders, a visit to a shot-up Jewish cultural centre, where people had died during last year’s terrorist attack, and much else besides. But Stephen Harper’s visit to Mumbai ended on a singularly spectacular, if not bizarre, note.
The Prime Minister’s motorcade of more than two dozen cars cut a swath through the city’s evening rush hour — and it’s some rush hour — en route to RK studios, for a taping of Bollywood song, fusion Mujra dancing (so your correspondent was told) and, well, noise on the set of Dance Premier League, the So You Think You Can Dance of India.
The Prime Minister clapped along, with that typically the-things-I-do fixed grin of his, while Laureen Harper seemed, typically, to be enjoying herself hugely.
“Take me now, Lord,” CBC’s Terry Milewski said. “I’ve seen everything”
From the tragic to the ridiculous. This was the Prime Minister’s day. But then, we’re in India.
(Photo: Adrian Wyld/The Canadian Press)”
Off topic;
I noticed that the national news found it hard to refer to Stephen Harper as the Prime Minister of Canada on the segment last night, they called him everthing but. I found that dissrespectful.
Also Terry Milevski rant today was out of line, imagine a CBC reporter reffering to a Liberal visit that way
Terry Milewski and Jon Ibbitson working together to mock India !!!! Are we suprised ??? I am dissapointed that David Akin is following this pack mentality. Silly me , I expected better of David Akin.
CBC and G+M only worship China like all good Liberals.
I agree with Terry M and his request to be taken now, preferably off the air. But, we were expecting something to be bashed on this trip. Nice to see more evidence that our PM is a very normal human being and can enjoy himself.
What did IRuby do in India, agree that children should be beaten.
Poor MO, sitting in China and seeing Kyoto 11 going down the drain, never to be implemented. Thank you PMSH.
I still think Iggy is past the point of no return. One of his biggest problems is one of credibility. He’s done so many flip-flops and outright abandonment of policies, that nobody, outside the red kool-aid drinkers, believes him anymore.
Look at his four months or so of over-the-top rhetoric re EI-360. And then, in Sept. he drops that policy completely,
ranting about the dysfunctional blue ribbon panel, and how it was all the fault of the three Tories that nothing got done.
What’s Donolo going to do, besides add a few more “catchy” phrases to Iggy’s arsenal of Liberal talking points ? It’s still all snake oil that Iggy is selling. Snake oil that Iggy doesn’t believe in, would never buy with his own money, and would never swallow himself.
Terry M has long ago lost his credibility, Ibbbitson and Akin are all in the same journalistic cesspool of Liberal hacks. Their going starkers with nothing to report that’s remotely positive about their Liberals and they can’t bring themselves to report anything positive about the Conservative government and most especially PM Stephen Harper.
We really need to take serious action and demand factual reporting free of spin, put the boots to their butts.
Well said Liz J!!
How many viewers will cbc/ctv/global lose if CTV gets its way re charging for signals, or they will pull their network programs off of all cable companies. Are you going to go out and buy an antenna to get any of those stations.
This is another example showing how out of touch WK is. Iffy has been doing an excellent job communicating the Liberals are incompetent to run Canada. In the debate during the last actual Liberal leadership race Iffy told Dion “We didn’t get it done.” Now he is demonstrating why it didn’t get done.
PM Stephen Harper continues to do a great job, now on the global scene. Kinsella or Donolo as puppeteers of the Igneutered makes no difference for the Liebral performance or outlook. As for the Ignoble One’s elusive personna, it is difficult to nail it down, other than to describe him as a sort of Doctor Gregory House, without the charisma. Maybe I’m being extra complimentary here, but today happens to be International Tolerance Day, and I’m obliging. Life is still good, other than the fact that there seem to be “Trippers” sprouting up here and there. Now we have a 524.5 as well as a 302. Remember, 523 yours truly, is the original.

“Take me now, Lord,” CBC’s Terry Milewski said. “I’ve seen everything”
LOL
I luv it when PMSH drives the CBC/media crazy!!
Our Laureen is a living doll… and ALWAYS a hit on these international trips.
The Harpers are a Very handsome couple.
ps. the media is struggling with the reality that they have lost the media war to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
They can’t break him, he’s got their number and it drives them all nutz!
Imo, the damage to Iffy is permanent.
Donolo can do no more than correct the communications aspect of the failed LPC.
And the ‘just visiting’ ads were not the biggest factor,
it was Iffy being iffy, showing poor judgement even for a rookie… the # 2 pick from the B Team will always be just that.
ps. the media is struggling with the reality that they have lost the media war to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
I really got that impression tonight on Power Play. Craig Oliver’s “Take” was quite amazing. It was as if he and his buddies at CTV were sitting back realizing that there may not be another election for at least a year!
How will WK live with that?
H’o, H’o, H’o ……

“Harper towers over Obama on cover of Chinese national paper
The front cover of the China Daily shows a ‘big’ picture of Stephen Harper chatting to Chinese President Hu Jintao at the closing ceremonies of the APEC meeting in Singapore. But you have to look below the fold to find a picture of the charismatic president. It is tiny, but there he is getting off Air Force 1, holding an umbrella to keep the rain off.”
“Above the fold, in the place of honour, however, is a “big” picture of Stephen Harper chatting to Chinese President Hu Jintao at the closing ceremonies of the APEC meeting in Singapore.
This is the same Canadian prime minster who, supposedly, is only now working his way back into favour with the Chinese who have been reportedly annoyed, first by his outspoken attitude toward Chinese human rights abuses and lately by his apparent snub of the world’s emerging superpower.
It was an interesting choice in photography.”

I also noticed that by the end of CBC power and Politics that Rosemary Barton and Evan Soloman were backing off the whole lets make fun of Bollywood theme that Terry Milewski had initiated.
Just watched more of the video of the PM at the dancefest. Yes, he stumbled but recovered. No, his eyes were not only on the backside of the girls. Must have taken real patience to get that shot and put it in all the papers with snide remarks in the comments. Regardless, he won the day.
But, we knew it was coming didn’t we, and are prepared for it.
As I said elsewhere, that video is much better than IRuby saying it is ok for police to beat young children.
Joanne, just saw the video clip of Craig’s Take on CTV website. I was amazed, not the usual ant-Harper hate rant. What’s going on? Did Craig remember to take his meds?
Don Martin:
“But the best medical advice to avoid catching this flu bug would be to continue pumping gobs of hand sanitizer at every opportunity, cough into your elbow and, to reduce the stress of waiting for the vaccine, avoid listening to Liberals.”
This is a Bennettism:
“Speaking of lost in translation, can anyone figure out what Liberal MP Carolyn Bennett means with this answer to a question on the number of parliamentarians affected by H1N1?: “I’m not aware that I’ve been asked to keep track of absenteeism in my office so without real numbers or without taking this seriously, this is a problem.” Well, OK then.”
