As Lorrie Goldstein says, every time Canada is given a fossil award from environmentalists, let’s put out a great cheer right across the country. (H/T Maz2)
It means that our Conservative government is concerned about the potential ramifications to our economy at the present time, and the actual efficacy of the actions on a global basis.
And that’s a good thing.
Jim Prentice explains:
“Instead, our government and the United States government will be aiming for a still-ambitious, but we believe more responsible, goal: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as fast as possible without killing the economy and without resulting in a situation where the cure is worse than the disease.”
The minister’s comments did not sit well with Mike Kennedy, senior resource economist with the Calgary-based Pembina Institute...
Oh yeah. That Pembina.
Lorrie should be happy.

Show leadership: Reject Copenhagen – Kevin Gaudet and Maureen Bader

Has anyone every given an acceptance speech when winning this award. Would love to have Jim give a rousing speech on what it means to win, and slam the greenies with it.
Environmentalism in it’s current form is essentially perverted version of the failed communist / socialist idea.
The UN Copenhagen Treaty is an attempt at a form of global environmental communism , run by the UN with the likes of Gore and Suzuki , and administered by unelected tyrants who hate the West and who have found a home at the UN.

The link below is an interesting photo essay of some environmental issues in China , one of the countries Canada would be bound to fund by the Copenhagen Treaty , while decimating Canada’s economy
Amazing Pictures, Pollution in China

October 14, 2009, the 30th annual awards ceremony of the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund took place at the Asia Society in New York City. Lu Guang (卢广) from People’s Republic of China won the $30,000 W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography for his documentary project “Pollution in China.”
Canada should proudly display its fossil awards…right beside a new AGW Wall of Shame. The Wall of Shame should be dedicated to the scientists, journalists, corporations, politicians and activists who have created, enabled and exploited the AGW scam. Start with the hypocrites who lecture us about our carbon footprint while living high on the carbon hog – Gore, NYT’s Krugman, Prince Charles and Dr. Suzuki. Then move on to other players like Michael Mann, Enron, Pembina, Greenpeace and so on.
I think we should give out “chicken little” awards to these eco-nuts. I’ve heard so many doom-and-gloom, sky-is-falling predictions from these goofs, I’ve lost track.
Of course Suzuki was warning about the coming ice age, back in the late ’70s. And Stephane Dion was saying soon after he became leader, that if he didn’t become Prime Minister by the end of 2007, it would be too late to reverse the environmental damage on the world from Harper ! And Al Gore predicting more global-warming-induced hurricanes, like Katrina.
There’s no shortage of worthy recipients to my award.
I would hope the Copenhagen treaty needs to be ratified by the US Senate. The Kyoto accord, or rather a preemptive resolution, passed 95-0 in the Senate around 1997. Clinton and Gore never sent Kyoto to the Senate for this reason. I don’t think the make up of the Senate has changed that much since. I can’t see the Senate agreeing to taxation without representation.
Correction: make that NYT’s Thomas Freidman not Krugman. Friedman is the journalist who believes that:
“One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks. But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages. That one party can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies needed to move a society forward in the 21st century”.
Of course he would never live the life a Chinese worker or even carbon rationed American . Here is his humble, low CO2 consuming home:

There’s enough room in that mansion/estate for a small Chinese village.
Just a reminder about
the TD funding of the Pembina/Suzuki report supporting the wealth transfer from the West:
Ed Clark wrote the NEP for Lib Energy Minister Lalonde.
Ed Clark is now CEO of TD Cda Trust.
”…Before being named TD’s CEO in late 2002,
Ed Clark was better known as Red Ed,
a handle he earned during the 1980s as one of the federal bureaucrats behind the much-despised National Energy Program…’
“Has anyone every given an acceptance speech when winning this award”.
I’d love to give that acceptance speech.
“It is my immense pleasure to recieve this prestigous fossil award, as it shows the utter and sheer hypocrisy of those who champion the cause. At a time when China and India’s greenhouse gas emmissions show rapid year over year increases that exceed Canada’s total emmissions, which total only 2% of worldwide emmissions, people can easily realize this is more about politics and less about saving our planet.
At the same time the Pembina Institute scolds and critizes our country, China brings another coal-fired plant online every week. At a time in our history where our manufacturing bleeds jobs on a daily basis to those same countries, these same groups demand we undermine Canadian jobs and values to enble those countries that are now the global leaders in emmissions to gain an even further competetive advantage, at the same time ignoring their rapid increase in ghg.
Yes, to recieve this award is indeed a great honor, as it shows it’s not really about saving the planet, but rather feel good ideas and socialist agendas at work. Because of this I graciously accept this award, and will graciously accept it in the years to come as the hypocrisy and blind eyes shown to the real polluters is sure to continue.
Thanks to all who voted for me.”

CJ & Paulsstuff – I love it!!
Paulstuff, great speech. Send a copy to Prentice, to let him know he has support for Canada’s stand.
Does anyone remember the RASBERRY awards, presented via some spokesman for some cause. Wasn’t it Bill Crosby that won one for something he did or said. Of course there was no award, just some media message. Bill went on one of the talk shows, (maybe Carson) and demanded to receive his golden raspberry or he would sue for false something or other.
The organization had to spend a lot of money for said golden raspberry, that they gave to Bill.
I think that was the last time it was awarded.
If there is a real fossil award, it better not have any CO2 used in the production of it.
Fossil Award?
I Nominate Volunteer WK for the following award:
Best Conservative Mole of the Year. Fifth Column [Deep Cover] Division, Smiling Subversive & Back-Stabbing Category.
Next years meeting in Mexico City will produce the same result as this years meeting in Copenhagen, much to the dismay of the enviro-Mental-ists who believe in Glo-Bull Warming.

Briefly, this appeared on Google News:
“Copenhagen climate change summit hopes in tatters as Obama backs postponement”
That was the original title of the piece. Somebody must have complained, because it didn’t last long: Look what The Guardian changed the title to:
“Copenhagen climate summit hopes fade as Obama backs postponement”
Whether the hopes are fading or in “tatters”, it seems that the hope and climate change movement is falling apart.”

“Gore’s presentation on climate change draws 800 as 200 protestors gather outside
BOCA RATON — Confused Palm Beach County voters helped thwart Al Gore’s 2000 bid to become president of the United States, but he was introduced as “president of the planet” when he returned here Saturday night to deliver an environmental lecture.
The former vice president spoke on climate change at the Mizner Park Amphitheater to a crowd of about 800. More than 200 protesters gathered across the street from the event, and their boos and chants could be heard inside the amphitheater as Gore began his presentation.
Gore lost Florida, and the White House, by 537 votes to George W. Bush in a 2000 as many Palm Beach County Democrats said they mistakenly voted for conservative Pat Buchanan because they were confused by the county’s “butterfly ballot” design.
After losing the presidential race, Gore became arguably the world’s most famous advocate for curbing carbon emissions, gaining eco-celebrity status with the film An Inconvenient Truth and winning a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
“It’s an interesting twist of fate here in our own backyard that former Vice President Al Gore has taken on a new platform and is now a catalyst for world change,” said Marci Zaroff, an “eco-entrepeneur” who introduced Gore.
“So, in essence, he’s president of the people. He’s president of the planet. And the work that he’s doing is more important than any other work that could possibly be done.”"

*Gnosticism and civilization
Submitted by ribera on Mon, 2009-06-15 16:19.
Gnostics, basically, do not accept a surnatural God : in their opinion only Humanity can pretend to be that.
But in fact they know that God actually exists, and then the trouble begins : instead of changing their views, they have decided to negate and if possibly destroy, everything in reality which reminds God’s acts, including human deeds (as we are created by God too).
That means, in philosophical order, negation of reason, logic and causality (which show an organized universal framework, and let guess a surnatural creation).
That means, in political order, destruction of morality and religion, because the gnostic man must be freed of any determinism coming from outside of his own will and impulses, so anything the civilization brings to him is somehow suspicious.
As you say, the gnostic is “locked in resentful hostility with every orthodox judgment and indeed at war with the structure of reality, which it seeks to transform”. This is exactly what happens.
Gnosticism pretends to build a new world, which implies destroying the old one before.
We must understand that what he wants in fact is only the first part of the program. Building a new “brave new world” is only a delusion intended for seducing himself and other people, and inducing them to destroy the “old world” -that is, any organized and superior civilization (and specially, the western and christian one).
Gnosticism is an entropic mind : any differentiation from the chaos has to be destroyed, because everything which exists is, at the end, done by God.
That means that any ethnic or sexual differentiation must be destroyed and we understand now why immigration in western countries for example, or promotion of homosexuality is so promoted (by the way, androgyny is one the most basic gnostic myths, where male and female are merged in a single being)
Clearly Gnosticism, in his refusal of any reality, is some kind of lunacy.”

The Big Hope has pretty much neutered the wailing from the Left about PM Harper’s common sense approach to the subject.
Personally I’d be torn, where to place said award? Over my wood burning fireplace or in my gas gulping F250?
The LPC has Igneutered fossils to display. We need alternate energy sources which are economically feasible, to satisfy our increasingly green palate. Then the emissions and other fossil fuel disadvantages will be a concern of the past, just like the irrelevancy of the Liebral party. Now we even have animal “rights” (are some animals “people”?) activists who are out to submarine such events as the Calgary Stampede. Can’t steers be roped and tied? Don’t people have some rights too, for the sake of fun, skill, sport, and tradition?
The world itself is becoming a very unhealthy dinosaur…
Ugh, Kemo Saavy, er Ugh, Kemo Sabay, er savvy.
