Reader Maz2 rarely misses a trick. In today’s National Post editorial (that supposedly applauds Environment Minister Jim Prentice’s promise not to put our country’s economy at risk,) Maz2 exposes the subtle wording of the introduction which seems to imply tacit acceptance of the notion of AGW:
The Earth is warming, and human activity is likely to blame. Climates are changing across the world, including in Canada’s far north. In other parts of the world, some crops will fail, some species will be pressed to extinction and some low-lying territories will be flooded.
But this parade of horribles cannot be used to justify any form or remedial action. Many of the proposals put forth by environmentalists would do little to stop global warming, and would simply act as transfer-payment schemes from rich countries to poor ones…
Maz2 notes:
“*The Earth is warming,”.
AGW is the Religion of the State proclaimed by the National Post/MSM.
Give us the “Proof”, National Post.
“The Earth (notice the capital “E” on earth) is warming”.
Where is the proof, National Post? If God is dead, prove to us that “The Earth is warming”.
Is Gaia a jealous goddess? Are you, National Post, Gaia’s Evangelist?
Yes indeed. Where is the proof, National Post?
Meanwhile, kudos to Jim Prentice for showing a spine:
…Canada will not sign any deal that doesn’t force India, China and Brazil to meet negotiated targets for their own greenhouse gas reductions — a demand that may well be rejected by those countries.
“These countries are responsible for 97 per cent of the growth in emissions,” he says. “Canadians don’t want us to sign on to something that obliges us to reduce emissions, but doesn’t impose obligations on principle emitters.”
My hope is that our Conservative government will continue to show leadership on this issue. This is a good start.
Václav Klaus is the role model.

…We are also taking a collaborative approach with cap and trade: We will build a system in Canada that can be treated as equivalent to the system that will eventually be adopted in the United States. This does not mean we are waiting for the Americans to act — far from it. It means that we are ensuring we create a system that does not inadvertently impose trade barriers.
Over the past months, I’ve met with every provincial and territorial leader to build consensus for a national position on climate change. We are looking for common ground on issues that, after all, often affect provincial and territorial jurisdiction. And there is indeed a consensus on at least one key issue: Each of the premiers and territorial leaders agrees we need to harmonize Canadian regulations — especially cap and trade — with the United States…
