Be wary of the Swine Flu snake oil salesmen.
And FYI, Cocoa Krispies is not a good substitute for the vaccination.

“Please create a circle…..”
Absolutely, no exceptions! Even if it means someone may get hurt feelings!
Bec, yes! Yet even some parents are so worried about the so-called risks of the vaccines that they hesitate to get them.
It is not very diplomatic to suggest that an effective immune system can be spontaneously acquired and relied upon as a substitute for the H1N1 vaccination. If you’re in the higher-risk categories, or in the proximity of loved ones who are, prioritize your personal health care by minimizing the chances. GET THE VACCINE. For myself, I’ve been blessed with a sturdy constitution (Conservative-based) for over 50 years and never seem to get sick. I donate a pint of whole blood every 2 months and my decent health seems to be self-sustaining so far. I enjoy Cocoa Krispies (if I shop in the U.S.) and other varieties of cereal, but I’d never rely on such goodies for much more than recreational eating. They beat potato chips. Still, you want to fortify your total health by consuming a variety of nutrients, and get proper rest and exercise. It will equip you for the long haul. Everything in moderation. Listen to your body, be in-tune, and use common sense. Stay away from fads and politicized boondoggles. Think for yourself and protect yourself. LONG LIVE the BLUE!!
Might get caught in your spam filter, Joanne, but I’ll take my chances once again. While it’s true he who hesitates is sometimes lost, but sometimes not. Months and months ago, credible sourced/ reports spoke about this vaccine being fast-tracked with only one week’s testing involved. Now I think a rule of thumb distinction can take place between the profit targeted ‘snake oil salesman’ scamming with the 7.99 per bottle thing and a reputed retired neuro surgeon studying the viruses over thirty years. Blind trust in the pharmaceutical industries’ releases have long since been dismissed by concerned citizens. A selection of drugs which shall not be named here for obvious reasons have been withdrawn from the market when known risks/threats developed.
Did you see the link I put up at JNW? I can appreciate a committed scientist whose got a proven track record with the chemistry analysis. Flu deaths over the years are par for the course, yes of course, but the majority have gotten through the miseries of the flu season with the regular prescriptive advisements, rest in bed, take plenty of liquids to hydrate, the regular fever reducing meds, etc. and you make it out the other side with the natural immunity.
However did we all get through the various flus in the past. Even the Mayo Clinic stocks the chicken soup tins on its shelf, though the real bones containing the real marrow is an old wives’tale remedy as a congestion buster. Many reading will recognize that remedy and the instant relief.
Then there’s the other prescription involving hot toddies, hot rum etc. which some may prefer for the length of the flu spell, be it ten days or just a few. No doubt, some will go with ten days hot toddies — overdoing it. LOL.
Although I will say the innoculation clinics up and down are creating employment and the many millions involved in the contract beats the pithy takings of the snake oil salesmen.
Foregoing pork consumption, too where the virus lives might help the issue. The virus is reportedly airborne as well.
Bottom line, we have to distinguish who exactly are the snake oil salesmen, I agree with you completely on that one.
It is not very diplomatic to suggest that an effective immune system can be spontaneously acquired and relied upon as a substitute for the H1N1 vaccination.
Tripper, I think it almost borders on irresponsibility or worse.
Loved the Cocoa Krispies comment.
Anna, are you trying to tell me that you can catch swine flu from eating pork?
If so, what evidence would I need to produce here to convince you otherwise?
Maybe you could get the flu from raw pork, but heating kills every virus. I like my pork chops cooked.
Just heard the latest EKOS poll, guess what, all the media, bennett outrage hasn’t done a thing. Conservatives 36% libs 26%
And, also, cbc said of x number of doses distributed, only half have been administered. Wouldn’t that mean the provinces have the problem, if there is one.
Also, the Flames are not the only team to jump the line. Raptors and others have also got the shot.
Today in AB, children up to 5 only, and possibly pregnant women. If you are 5, go home.
Does anyone recall all the hype about bird flu? How did we manage to survive that one?
While we’re waiting for the PROVINCES to get the vaccine administered to the population we can always boost our immunity with Cold-FX! Made from ginseng root, it’s been approved by Health Canada for some time to reduce symptoms of flu and colds while boosting the immune system. Haven’t tried it, never get colds or flu myself, but according to those who do and use it,it really does work.
My pregnant g/daughter and her 2 yr old son are going to stand in line.
I think a big thank you should go out to the 18 MPs who broke party lines to vote for the gun bill. We will wait to see any punishment from their leaders. Aardvark has a list of those 18.
Re the young baby, cbc said, suspected H1N1- is their tone about to change with the ekos numbers out.
CBC wondering what the libs can do as they are where they were last election, new leader, better fundraising, new OLO head honcho. My suggestion, take a long look in the mirror.
While we’re waiting for the PROVINCES to get the vaccine administered to the population we can always boost our immunity with Cold-FX! Made from ginseng root, it’s been approved by Health Canada for some time to reduce symptoms of flu and colds while boosting the immune system.
Liz, it sure won’t hurt to take Cold-FX, and other common-sense precautions like good hand-washing etc. I think my beef is with people who try to appear authoritative and suggest that their particular product is as effective or more effective than the vaccine. That borders on fraud.
Next faux scandal about to break, Don Martin today complaining the Torch run hits more conservative ridings than liberals.
Yeah Mary, the CBC and media in general are constantly concerned about what the Liberals can do to boost their chances to regain power. It’s all about Liberals all the time. They show no respect for the peoples choice to govern. We chose the Harper Conservatives to govern as per our voting system. They have every right to govern until WE say otherwise.
It’s dumbfounding to try to understand a media so wrapped up in one political party, especially one so woefully unfit to govern as the present Liberal party and it’s inexperienced leader who continues to display his lack of political acumen. How long before their lust for power chases him back to the hallowed halls of Harvard to make room for yet another saviour? Will they let him do it on his own in an election? Even with all the adulation and support from the media, he’ll be no match for PM Harper on the election stump.
Terrific update, Joanne. I was hesitant to post things like that for us new Grama’s because it can be very frightening but in reality, knowledge is not something to fear.
Here in Calgary, the retooled program has the line-ups already forming. Most parents are being very clever by having one parent line up and the other (or grama/grampa)bringing the under 5′s later on.
If anyone has heard a clear and decisive decision regarding the second half of the vaccination being administered. (kids under 5 only received half) I would appreciate it.
I’m not sure that they have written it in stone yet but it seems that they have determined that 1- half dose is adequate.
An artcile in this morning’s London Free Press says a pet cat has been diagnosed with H1N1. It was treated and recovered. Also two ferret infected.
Mary T – Saw Martin’s column – this is the next diversion for the LPOC because their agrument re: H1N1 has fallen flat – except for the media who seem willing for it to get worse. The more we hang on it the more we fall into the ambulance-chaser trap as well.
What’s very interesting is that there are several flus out there right now. In my community we heard last week that 19 of our schools have over 10% of students off sick – none, had been diagnosed with H1N1 back a week ago. Haven’t heard anything since then but the school board also said that it would not close schools.
Very sad when anyone dies, especially so with a child.
Symptoms of sick babies under 3 months are so sutle, and an illnes takes hold so rapidly,
very scarey times for a parent.
Senior farm women tell me that in the olden days, a baby was not seen by anyone, kept in isolation, until they were six months old.
I wonder how many Liberals have rec’d the vaccine? Did they wait in line? Get it from a private source? I’m surprised that the media pundits haven’t thought to ask this question.
There is NO vaccine shortage.
And this is why I do NOT think hockey players and their families getting a shot at a private clinic is a bad thing.
That’s a whole bunch of people, who travel extensively, who will not get sick and spread the swine flu.
The Alberta government did not have enough back up staff lined up….like pharmacists.
article:
More than half of vaccine doses sitting in storage
”Fewer than half of the available doses of H1N1 vaccine have been administered to Canadians, leaving millions of vials in warehouses or health-unit fridges across the country while people anxiously wait for their shots.
By the end of the week, 6.5 million doses of vaccines will be in circulation, with at least 1.8 million to come next week, according to federal officials.. ”
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health/h1n1-swine-flu/more-than-half-of-vaccine-doses-sitting-in-storage/article1351752/
Interesting Richco, animals are not something that I considered.
Our health region has indicated everything in our schools so far has been H1N1.Some have had, close to a 40% absenteeism rate. The Universities and Colleges have an on-line student sign-in for those afflicted.
No one is even testing any longer but the Health Regions have cleverly opened up a Flu Assesment clinic for the severely affected. Otherwise, stay home and flu management protocol.
Hospital visitors are discouraged and although numbers are considerably low, there is still an estimated 2-3 hundred adults and children severe cases.
When this flu thing is over, and all the goofs are itemized we will discover that the feds did their job, and due to the media and libs actions in scrums and the HofC are/were responsible for most of the panic.
Our schools have ordered sanitizer dispensers, but until they have a confirmed case, will not fill them, due to cost. So, is the PM responsible for that.
Susan Smith has had her shot along with her child, as she bragged about her bracelet on P&P.
I have no objection to teams getting the shot due to their travel and contact with people. I also think ems, police, and all health care workers should have been done first.
This is a learning experience for everyone.
Re isolation for babies-back then we kept our babies wrapped up, never took them out without being well covered. You never saw a baby a few days old out shopping with their mothers. Considering we had to stay in bed for 5 days, and hospital for 10, at least the mother had recovered her strength, and learned how to take care of her baby.
The 56 thousand dollar kickback on a government contract by the Liberals should be the story of the day – how big was this fraud? Sponsorship was peanuts in comparison. Where is the MSM on this story? Will the editors let any of their dogs loose on this story that deserves some comment?
With the recent disclosure, that Jean Chretien and the Liberals, awarded a sole contract of 326 million dollars for the manufacture of vaccine in Canada, which is highly unusual for a huge contract of that size, and since the Liberal Party were the recipients of a 56 thousand dollar donation (kickback), how big was this kick back scheme of government contracts by the Liberals The Canadian taxpayer, should demand, and get another Gomery enquiry, to investigate this new twist of the theft of the Canadian taxpayer’s money…
[portion deleted by blog admin]
Bec – apparently there is no vaccine for animals, but some other meds. do the trick. I wonder whether this may not be the same for humans.
I also agree with Wilson. I don’t believe there’s a shortage of vaccine – overblown like just about everything else the LPOC get their hands on these days.
Yes, getting the flu…any flu should be a concern but going off on the ride of rumour and fear is really an abuse that too many are hanging on.
Dan Gardner (he writes for an Ottawa news paper) wrote a really good book on how society gets scared into believing rumours and fantasy. I believe it’s called “Risk – The Science and Politics
of Fear”. I’ve read it a few times and it’s largely why I’m not too worried about H1N1. If you’re looking for something for your Christmas list I highly recommend it. Dan’s got a great blog that you can access from his website at http://www.dangardner.ca He’s been a great colleague:-)
Having grown up in a time when germs were ok and it was good to get dirty and be exposed to some bacteria I’ve had the “felt like getting hit by a truck” flus – a few times.
Re: Gardner’s blog – check out his column entitled “What we need is a vaccine against pseudo-science.”
Peter – that dog won’t hunt. For a number of reasons.
Richco – Thanks for that Gardner link. (I added it to the update.)
That book sounds good too. Thanks.
Regarding the latest ‘created scandal’ by Martin and Fife on ctv (the Torch run) maybe Fife can tell us why 27 ctv staffers got ‘picked’ ..or ‘appointed’ to carry the torch ahead of truly deserving young athletes, special needs kids, seniors, veterans, etc.ctv ran the Fife story once this am,and head of Olympics flat out denied meddling by Cons to influence where the torch went, but that didn’t stop Fife fron digging under rocks and hauling out Lib/Dipper mp’s to slam this idea..and blame Cons.anyway.
Hey Bobbie..did the PM meddle to get all those ‘lib-partisan’ ctv staffers to be able to carry the torch?????
Watching Fox, US facing vaccine shortage, how could that be if one listens to Bennett and the media.
Re the Torch Run. First, our ridings out west are much larger, area size, and if the Torch stops three times a day, of course it will be in a conservative riding longer and more often. Hey, there are more of us than them.
Regardless, I have no intention of watching any olympic or torch coverage on ctv. Wont even buy those liberal red olympic mittens.
The media keep on keeping on playing silly beggars, trying to create pseudo scandals against the Harper Conservatives in hopes of helping their beloved Liberals. Problem is it’s gone into overkill, people are onto them and are tuning out in disgust. The people are treating them with disdain for playing their dirty gotcha games trying to sell a bad product which is the present LPC. Thay are not in any position to take care of the affairs of this country.
CTV message from Robert Fife is that only Canadians who vote Conservative should buy Red Mittens to support our Canadian Athletes. It appears that only Conservative MP’s are promoting the sale of Red Mittens and only Canadians who vote Conservative support the Olympic Torch Run. I hope Lloyd Robertson didn’t have to run through a conservative riding in Victoria.
Message from CTV is… If you don’t vote Conservative then don’t support our Canadian Olympic Athletes. This not fair to our hard working Canadian Athletes!
I wonder if CTV’s sponsors for the Olympics have endorsed this message.
Boy, have I just heard the doozy of the century.
I wish there was a link but as it is the moronic musings of some 20 somethings, how could there be an actual LINK?
My 25 year old daughter just called me to describe the latest coming out of a segment of her peer group.
Here it is, get ready…..
“The government is planting chips in your body to track you”
My daughter has debated these individuals to the point of exhaustion and finally said, “Perhaps they should put a chip in you after all, to protect you from yourself”
I am still ROTFL! That’s my girl!!
Joanne
Certainly that dog won’t hunt. But members of the media have to know that Canadians have questions on their mind, just as some members of the media should, because they are not stupid.
It may also stimulate some news readers to wonder “What am I reading here?” and why?
It also suggests we need a balance in the reporting and why would door knobs be such a bombshell? Or does this expose the theatrics and grandstanding of the opposition with which some members of the media were complicit and cooperative with. The media have to know that all Canadians are not a bunch of turnips.
Re: Conservatives carrying the torch. I seem to recall a member of the government caucus speaking to this accusation last week who said that the Conservatives rec’d 150 spots on the Olympic torch run and that they gave every last one of them to a veteran. No story here at all.
Oh and great news. I do believe we’ve found Fife’s hair piece. It’s being used by Prince Charles.
(of course that Fife wears a piece is an assumption on my part but it’s either that or chronic bad hair days)
Off topic, but here is the latest Liberal faux outrage;
CTV News has obtained a list that shows that torch relay ceremonies will be held in 91 Conservative ridings, compared to 20 Liberal ridings and 17 ridings for both the NDP and Bloc Quebecois.
“It is absolutely shameful to politicize and to make partisan something such as (the) Olympics,” Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh told CTV.
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20091105/torch_ceremonies_091105/20091105?hub=TopStoriesV2
Richo, Fife has a problem keeping his hair color that strawberry blond shade. Sometimes he gets a tad white around the edges which tells us he’s covering up the aging process with hair dye. He’s probably the same degree of grayness as the Prince of Wales.
Jo, I have sent you an email re the gun registry vote.
Sad to see that Warren Kinsella has so many people intimidated and running scared in a free country.
Incredible.
Andre Picard shows he has a firm grip on reality when it comes to the practicalities of vaccinating millions of Canadians in this piece in the Globe.
OMG, I am delighted that I have been wrapped up with other things today.
Allegations that the torch relay has been politicized? Give me a break!!
As someone that was active in the 88 Calgary Winter Olympics, that is just not part of the process.
Vanoc organizers have NOT politicized this, guaranteed and as far as I’m concerned, CTV should fire the idiot that wrote the drivel that Fife has spouted. CTV is the voice of the Olympics. What the he!! are they thinking?
Yesterday on PP, LeBlanc teased that he was hoping that CTV would palm them some tickets. Teasing but where is that SCANDAL?
Unbelievable.
I guess CTV is making up for the 10 year Chretien govt contract story, huh?
Boy they sure are worked up the the H of C today.
Olivia Chow really went over the top. I’ll have to check Hansard later for the exact wording her ‘question’ but it was awful. So unprofessional.
Drone Dryden sure is doing a fine job of making an ass of himself trying to politicize the torch relay in the HOC today. James Moore told him the facts but he didn’t accept the facts and droned on with another question of the same caliber. Sad and pathetic.
The Liberals Olympic-Sized Scandal of the week will be blown clear out of the water.
Checking Hansard from September 17ths Standing Committee of Veterans Affairs Director David Sullivan told the committee about the plans for veterans happening this year during Veterans Week.
Sullivan adds “This year, there is something unique-the Olympic torch relay. There will be 12,000 Canadians carrying the torch and 120 of those spots have been provided to the federal government. The decision was made that all of those 120 spot would be offered to veterans. So we worked with the major veterans organizations across the country and they have selected 120 veterans who will carry the torch from Oct. 30 until the beginning of the Olympics.”
I can also say that several months ago there were ads in our local papers encouraging towns and municipalities to apply, not to the government but, I think to the Olympic Committee if they would like to take part. The torch will be coming to a town near me, but, supporters of all stripes will be involved in making it a great event.
That the Liberals are now choosing to politicize the Olympics should be no surprise to anyone here.
Fantasy allows no bounds.
Missed QP today, the roofers arrived so my reno credit is hard at work. What did she say.
What disturbs me most about the H1N1 vaccine is the idea that through the magic of … we can eliminate all sickness, sadness, death and destruction. Instead of developing a healthy world outlook that is gracious and giving we have become spiritual prunes that scream, “Me First”.
Instead of going through the suffering and by going through the suffering, learning the lessons we seek to short circuit the experience and thus we become ever more greedy and grasping.
No I’m not some sadist that wants to see sick and dying infants but I am less than impressed with the result of our school system and society at large. Not long ago I was in the grocery store and when making change the young man behind the till gave me $10.00 too much. I promptly returned the extra money to which the young man asked me why I had done that. In his world view it was every man for himself and devil take the hindmost.
regarding the almost daily cry-baby antics by the Liberals re: conservatives being biased(stimulus money and now the Olympic torch run) to do the simple math and see that in fact those big-bad Tories just happened to elect more members to government than they did. Reality sure does suck when you’re a Liberal these days. We get it but if you want to change your fortunes do something worthwhile that might get your party elected to more regions.
Funny thing is, is that the CPC war room likely hasn’t even put an dent in the dirt they’ve got in Iffy’s Toaster Waffles. Hey, I wonder if any breakfast cafes in the country have named a waffle in Iggy’s honour yet? Ones with lots of air, nuts and Froot Loops on top?
Marlene Jennings again almost blew a gasket during QP, pointing at the PM and shouting “Wrong!” about Canada having distributed more vaccines per capita than other countries.
I guess I’ll have to start travelling again, like I did the past couple of days, to get references from the press in the countries Jennings shouted had bettered Canada’s reaction, China and Australia. But from what I had read previously, these two facts – strangers to the Liberals – were evident:
1. Many Chinese are reluctant to get their children vaccinated because of previous issues with Chinese manufactured goods.
2. Australia may have already inoculated a majority of its population for the simple reason that its winter season runs from June to August, so they perhaps stepped up their distribution of the vaccines without all the regulatory processes our vaccine manufacturer went through. Notice I said perhaps – I would have to verify that.
Notice what it says in this report dated Aug. 6, 2009:
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/2009/08/06/swine-flu-vaccine.html
“…Earlier on Thursday, an official with the World Health Organization said the first swine flu vaccines will likely be approved by regulators in September. …
Small batches of the pandemic vaccine have been made and clinical trials have started in Australia, China, the United States, Germany and Britain, with more set to begin.
Creating the batches and giving the shots to people are two separate steps, Kieny said, noting various regulators must first license the vaccine for use. …”
Totally off topic but;
Friends of Science just started a radio campaign that points to the sun, you’ll like it if you don’t agree with the Gorezuki’s Church of Glo-Bull Warming.
http://www.friendsofscience.org/
Looks like the Liberals have scored another own-goal on the Torch Run. Check out the comments on the CTV story here.
As Marg MM says”GOOD LORD!!! What’s next… The Conservatives get more “bathroom breaks”!!!!!Every time the Liberals open their mouths, the more foolish they look. I suppose they have asked all the torch bearers how they vote, just in case there are more Conservatives than Liberals carrying the torch. It’s the Olympics, a time for Canada to come together, not a time for political shennigans.Gee I wonder if the Liberals have asked the athletes as well, just in case, there are more Conservative voters among them.GIVE US A BREAK!!!!!“.
Our local news is reporting this hour that a young man in his 20s from Guelph has died of H1N1 – apparently he’d been out of the country until just recently and the report on CKNX is that they believe he got sick initially when out of the country.
The report alleges he was healthy.
Sad.
The biggest vaccination centre in Calgary reporting NO ONE in the line up @ 2:00 pm so there you go.
I took a lovely walk with my daughter, new bambino and 23 month old.
She told me that 100% of their friends (with toddlers and babes) were not going to get the vaccination originally. They ALL lined up this morning.
Those views, were the NO’s registered in the polls, last month.
I agree with you Joe. My husband was at the launch of the MADD campaign this AM as his company is a National sponsor and he made a similar comment. When you witness those numbers and that carnage, you wonder about exactly the things that you question.
We have a strong MADD spokesperson in caucus with our very own Senator Marjory LeBreton.

VACCSCAM Hits Liberals: Kickback-For-Vaccine-Contract
On the take.
Crime. Corruption. Greed.
In the Chretien years. Now, a book like that on the Chretien years would be an overnight bestseller, just like Muslim Mafia.
Stevie Cameron, where are you? C’mon, write a book on them! You could make millions going after the gawdawful Librano$$$!!! So why don’t you?
OH MY GOD ! Both PP and cbc politics is going to cover ‘torchgate’..cbc complete with Ken Dryden! Don MArtin has good column at NP:’Liberal torch paranoia flares up!’
Joe Volpe the guy most likely to have dead people vote for him..just on blaming PMSH PERSONALLY for this outrage. Is this getting too childish for words??
Tom CLARK is at it again. The TORCH is running in Conservative ridings OMG. STOP the rally now
Strange, Tom is worried about the TORCH RELAY yet he seems unperturbed about the VACCSCAM. Man, he is pathetic.
Next big excitement for an issue for the decrepit Liberals? Not enough torch bearers in Liberal ridings. Will it ever end? What a pack of JERKS aided and abetted by the likes of PP host Clark.
o/t
Do not watch segment 1 of PP. I took one for the team, kids and save yourself the damage to the brain cells. Absolutely a disgusting move by the CTV to have allowed this to occurred.
correction- s/b
‘occur’ minus the ‘ed’
Graham Richardson and Jon Ibbitson( G+M) say Liberals are hoping to make Stephen Harper wear deaths of Canadians, just like they did to Mike Harris with Walkerton. Graham Richardson says” Hey! it worked in Ontario” Looks like CTV is on board to help out Peter Donolo make our Prime Minister quilty before proven innocent.
They continue to try a faux scandal, and did any of them mention the horrible things happening at Fort Hood in Texas. Fox has wall to wall coverage. We know the main shooter was an army officer about to be deployed, with hints he recently converted to Islam. He was killed. 2 more arrested. All injured and dead are adults. Name of officer killed just released by pentagon, and you guessed it. Now they have to decide if it was a terrorist attack.
What if Vanoc cancelled the Torch run, and the olympics due to H1N1. If one goes way back, there were items on the proposed Torch run, to cover almost every area of Canada.
And, there were ads in papers to apply to be a Torch carrier.
Latest news, it was a deliberate act of execution, no post traumatic stress, no mental illness. Wait for O to blame Bush or Harper.
Has anyone googled Torch run route:
The route’s detailed itinerary, which took two years of planning, was released before a hand-picked audience in a West Vancouver theatre on Friday.
Lots more at the site. Wasn’t there an election during that time, how did the route planners know what party would represent what riding. Especially when media was saying liberals would win the election.
Wouldn’t it be funny if a lot of those ridings were liberal when the route was planned, and they lost them in the election.
They lost about 30 ridings didn’t they. Is the Torch going thru any of those ridings. Could be interesting.
Liberals really ARE sore losers aren’t they. Can’t stand it that the natural governing party is now the National Waffle Party.
So is ctv now admitting that it was a plot to defeat Harris, and in fact he was not responsible for Walkerton.
Those guys shoud realize that we in the west are not trained seals to vote liberal.
Blaming PMSH for flu deaths will not work. Crawl messages across Fox broadcasts today, US short of vaccine.
And Gabby, perhaps you could send ctv copies of your travels.
At least we know the truth, and so few watch or listen to ctv or cbc it doesn’t matter.
Is the torch going thru NFLD, if so, what conservative ridings will it go thru. Is it going thru Halton, garthys former riding.
Did any one else catch the debate Mike Duffy had with Peter Stouffer( NDP) on CBC Power and Politics. Mike is very upset at Peter Stoffer signalling him out on Senate expenses. Duffy says this is all about the by-election in the riding right next to Peter Stoffer in Nova Scotia. Mike Duffy rocks, he was great!
Might I suggest to the Lib war room CTV et al that they take the map of Canada that shows the torch route. It covers most of Canada from what I can see. Now take a map of Canada that shows the areas of Canada that are represented by Conservative, Liberal, NDP, Bloc and overlay the two maps. Now when I look for Liberal ridings I see three little dots Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver along with a tiny dot in Sask and most of the region east of Quebec. By this map unless you restrict the run to NFLD, Maritmes and the three urban centres it is inevitable that the torch will spend much more time in Conservative ridings than Liberal ridings.
Just googled election results and who remembers that the liberals have LOST 95 ridings in the last couple of elections.
So maybe they were on the route at one time, but lost those riding. That is a lot of seats to lose. A lot of unhappy lib candidates or elected MPs out there. Message to all of you, you ain’t coming back any time soon, and some of those in the HofC today will join you. Iffy might beat Kims record.
Mary T – Bingo! Message to Liberals: Get more seats next time.
Big deal how many riding’s they lost and that the torch will only stop in the Toronto GTA 4 times, IT ONLY STOPS IN CALGARY ONCE!!!
If this was PARTISAN, it would be in the Prime Minister’s riding and many, many MP’s in Alberta for an entire month.
This is disgusting garbage from the Liberals. Disgusting and Joe Volpe along with his pack of howling coyotes, unrepenting rabid dogs, fighting over any flea infested bone that they can attempt to dig up.
These dogs are vicious, toothless cowards.
Check out National newswatch!! Hooray for david Akin, he has clip up of Mike Duffy calling Peter Stoffer a fake.
Now must run out to curling league game!!! Hope i am not late.
I see Doughboy Dryden is all upset about the Torch route. Surely he doesn’t want to carry it. As Moore said in QP, “Shame on you”. This MP is a disgrace.
Just watched Duffy on Evans show. Hey, ndp guy, the reason the PM could appoint 27 senators in one year is that 27 senators, appointed x number of years mainly appointed by liberal MPs x years ago reached retirement. The senate requested that vacancies be filled. Senate defeated an elected senate. So, that dog don’t hunt re no appointments. We have the constitution that says x number of senators/prov are to be appointed. The ndp are just mad they will never get a senate seat.
Monday should be interesting, waiting for the results.
Wow!! That video with Senator Duffy is unreal.
Duff really let him have it.
Day by day the Liberals, with their pathetic criticisms of the government, are demonstrating how brilliantly the Conservatives have been running this country.
If that’s the best the Liberals can do in opposition, then the Conservatives deserve to be the government for a very long time.
The fact that the Liberals are unable to find any significant fault with our government points to the reality that we Canadians are blessed with a Conservative party that has been leading this country with dignity, honesty and intelligence!!
A letter to Tom Clark

Power Play 11/05/2009
Another inaccurate statement on Power Play gone unchecked.
Your guest Don Davies stated that the torch will “even stop twice in Kenora”. Either he is illiterate or been given some misinformation. The torch arrives evening of Jan. 4 and leaves on Jan. 5 – this doesn’t constitute two stops by any definition except possibly Don’s and yours since you didn’t bother to correct him.
Will a correction follow?
I want to remind you that when you say the “government itself compiled the list” it means exactly that. They made a list of the communities the Olympic Torch will travel to, as decided by the VANOC committee and as the Vanoc committee provided to the government. The implication that the government decided which communities the torch will travel to is false and misleading and Canadians should not be directed to mistrust the word of the VANOC committee, which again is composed of a group of volunteers, doing their best, and don’t deserve the criticism from Joe Volpe as being incompetent. The last thing I saw Joe Volpe attempt to organize, and no one should take lessons from him, was his Liberal leadership campaign, and he was in hot water for children contributing financially to it, and in fact returned 27 thousand dollars – needless to say he wasn’t even an also ran in the campaign. For the opposition on one day to criticize the government for not getting information out there, and then to turn around and say it has no business getting information out there is ludicrous and conflicting.
Good post and great Gardner link (I’ve banked that one)…I don’t know if you linked it earlier, but Michael Bliss also had a great piece in the Globe about vaccination a couple days ago, very similar to my thoughts…

Interesting article, Darcy. Thanks.
So do you think he is trying to say that this is over-blown?

“European liberals are in shock over Barack Obama’s failures
It is no coincidence that Barack Obama held a key campaign rally last year in front of hundreds of thousands of adoring Germans, as though he were running for Mayor of Berlin. Obama remains in many ways a quintessentially European politician, a firm believer in big government, large-scale state intervention, social liberalism, supranational institutions, and the projection of soft power abroad. His political philosophy is frequently more attuned to Brussels or Strasbourg than it is to Washington.
For a host of reasons however, President Obama is increasingly viewed by his natural allies in Europe- the left-wing intelligentsia in particular – as a mounting disappointment, whether it is dithering over attending the climate change summit in Copenhagen, supposedly ignoring the momentous changes within the European Union, making little progress with the Middle East peace process, adopting protectionist trade policies, a lack of commitment to human rights, the list goes on.
Significantly, there have even been some attacks from the left on Obama’s failure of leadership on Afghanistan. No matter how hard Obama tries to appease his supporters in Europe by presenting American power in a softer light, the president of the United States is still going to let down those who backed him most strongly.”

Yeah, batb, they’re proving to be losers every day even with the help of media talking heads like Tom Clark et al.
Looking at Ken Dryden’s performance in the HOC, gotta wonder if he wore a helmet when he tended goal. If not, he may have an excuse which is more than the others who continue to prove just how bankrupt they really are.
BTW, how about Petey Mansbridge getting the Order of Canada or whatever? How about Buzzy Hargrove? Didn’t realize they contributed so much to make Canada a better place…..or whatever.
As I suggested at 4:04 yesterday the bias calls by the Liberals stems from their inability to do simple math. They simply hold fewer ridings…AND if they keep up the way they’re going they’ll be lucky to keep the ones they have now. Perhaps they should get serious about outreaching those grass root supports of their party who have been totally left out of the leadership and redefinition loop.
It’s going to be a beautiful weekend. I hope you take time to enjoy it Joanne. Not to many of these left.
Also, re: Senator Duffy answers his emails. He’s a great ear for things like biased reporting. I co-hosted a conference in Toronto in 1999 and Duffy was one of our keynotes, along with Mike Harris and Andrew Nikiforuk(former G&M writer). Duffy not only gets it…he’s lived that bias for way too long at CTV. The guy deserves lots of support.
For a little fun, from the latest edition of Sports Illustrated.
“A real estate developer whose first job was selling brushes and hand cream door-to-door, Poole was picked by Canadian prime minister Gordon Campbell to be CEO of the Vancouver Bid Corp. in 2001.”
So, if Campbell picked Poole, did he also design the route for the Torch-picked all the carriers, pick ctv to be sole broadcaster etc.
And, if ctv is sole broadcaster, why are they complaining of a sole supplier of the vaccine-also picked by a liberal PM.
Another standout in her own mind on Tommy Clark’s PP yesterday was Bonnie Crombie, ’nuff said.
Where’s Carolyn Bennett hiding? She’s been quiet for about 48 hours. Did she volunteer to vaccinate people in her riding or would she need a refresher to do it?
There is not ‘ONE’ NATIONAL TELEVISION MEDIA that is CONSERVATIVE yet the entire country liberal national medias blame the Conservatives for taking the torch through conservative riding. yet on conservative ridings there are only liberal national television media.
Now, Ms. Riley’s head has exploded*.
“As for Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff, his clumsy effort to straddle the fence on every issue is becoming laughable.”
“New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton, a founder of the venerable White Ribbon campaign to end violence against women, stood by mutely while 12 of his 36 MPs voted with the Conservatives to kill the registry.”
…-
*An appalling betrayal
What a bitter spectacle: MPs from all parties, except the Bloc Québécois, caving to a decades-long campaign by disgruntled gun owners, to U.S.-inspired attack advertising in targeted ridings and to self-interest to issue a death warrant to the long-gun registry.
The symbolism could hardly be more poignant — well, yes, it could be. Our parliamentarians missed the 20th anniversary of the Montreal massacre, which inspired the creation of the registry, by a month.”

Agreed Richo, Duffy deserves our support. He’s proving to be one of our best assets in the Senate, not sitting in silence as he proved yesterday when dealing with Stoffer, he’s onto their games and exposing them. He’ll also call for equal time when show hosts try to give their chosen ones the first and last word!
A letter to Tom Clark
Power Play Thursday 11/05/2009
Tom
After listening for 10 days, on your program to Liberals, NDP condemn Conservative MP’s for misleading , inaccurate, false and deceiving advertising with giant size carnival cardboard cheques, we have Peter Stoffer offering this gem of a monstrous cardboard cheque on parliament hill(can you say deceiving with anything that was written on it). You couldn’t have thought for one second anything on that cheque was accurate and not misleading?
Did the obvious connection go right over your head so you didn’t comment, or were you guided by an NDP cue card -NO STORY HERE LET”S MOVE ON.
Peter Stoffer in keeping with his misleading, inaccurate, and deceiving statements said “Harper has appointed more senators in a calendar year ” than any other Prime Minister. What he neglected to say was that Harper has been reluctant to appoint Ssnators and in fact the appointment of the 18 Senators this year was only playing catch up and is a part of a total of 20 senators that Harper has appointed in total over the last 4 years since being elected – 1996,1997,1998,1999. It would be nice to hold some of your guests accountable for their deceiving statements – don’t you think you let Canadians down in this instance?
Joanne, I don’t think Bliss thinks it’s overblown in terms of response or public health. I do think the level of panic is somewhat disproportionate, but not entirely unexpected. His real criticism, that I find so interesting, is the history of anti-vaccinationists.
re Liz J (@ 8:14am)
reminded me of my comment a couple of days ago on the Apps thread …
Ruth (8:00am) … I doubt we’ll see Ms. Bennett doing the apology thing anytime soon; however, if this incredible gaff by the Lib boss can make the angry, wild eyed, scary Ms Bennett keep her yap shut for a day or two, then I would consider it a real blessing.
… looks like I got my ‘blessing’
further to Liz J comment (8:14am) …
in my prior post I forgot to mention I had heard Ms Bennett mention during a recent interview that ‘… my Practice is not participating in administering the vaccine …’
Of course not; why contribute, in even a small way, to actually getting vaccine into Canadians arms, when it is much more fun to rant and rave at every opportunity about how the Conservatives are to blame for the chaotic mess, lineups, etc. associated with the H1N1 outbreak!
Yes, Ms. Bennett, you certainly have your priorities in order.
oh, and just for the record, Ms. Bennett, my doctor’s Practice here in Ontario, DID participate, and efficiently setup prior appointments, and was getting those in Priority groups in and out within 15 minutes of arrival. Now that’s what I call ‘doing something constructive for Canadians’.
Peter – 10:05 am
Peter, do you have a photo of SCOFFER with that huge cardboard cheque?
You also have to remember that Tom Clark cannot say much to the NDP since the NDP joined the lberals on the COALITION treaty.
BTW Peter, is there a CONSERVATIVE NATIONAL TELEVISION MEDIA in this country. Don’t think so.
So to Tom I say;
Do you know that canada has MORE LIBERAL NATIONAL MEDIA right across this nation and not one CONSERVATIVE.
Jen
I do have the picture of Stoffer with the cheque and was part of the email I sent Tom Clark
Sort of Political has a pic of Stoffer and the checque on his post.
“in my prior post I forgot to mention I had heard Ms Bennett mention during a recent interview that ‘… my Practice is not participating in administering the vaccine …’“.
Dave, I picked that up too. Apparently the whole process was “too complicated“.
I live in a small town on southern Vancouver Island, population about 10,000. My doctor’s practice (4 doctors, including one semi-retired, part-time) also serves a large area of the surrounding countryside, as it is a rural area. They are currently vaccinating high-risk patients with both H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccine as per the BC guidelines, and apparently have no trouble with the process being “complicated”.
So rural GPs take the whole thing in their stride and the city doctor isn’t up to dealing with it. Makes you wonder, eh.
Memo to Liberal Iffy, and the MSM, and his/its swine flu snake oil salesmen/women:
Your hoax/scam is busted, wane says.
There was no swine flu “pandemic”.
Where are the reports of swine flu deaths on Indian reserves?
…-
“Dr. Robert Schabas, medical officer of health for the Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit, said data collected in his region shows the number of people being diagnosed with swine flu, as well as school absenteeism rates, is on the decline.
“We peaked about 10 days ago,” said Schabas. “We’ve been watching the number come down for a few days now. We expected to see the same pattern across all of southern Ontario over the next week or two.”
Schabas said people in his region, as well as those in the Leeds Grenville and Lanark counties, can “relax a little bit” knowing the worst is behind them.
He also said he’s not in favour of healthy people continuing to be vaccinated.
“To be honest, I was never entirely convinced people should have been vaccinated in the first place, given that the risk was so small,” said Schabas.”

So what’s next in the liberals scare tactics. OVERSPENDING? well, let’s see the prime minister had every intentions of bringing in his own CONSERVATIVE PLan; but the LIBERALS AND other opposition parties threatened him. Not mention, the National went along with the OPPOSITION PARTIES instead of voicing the prime minister’s intentions.
So when you hear TOM CLARK speaking in the behalf of the LPOC on the PM spending, it proves that the millions of dollaras which the LPOC made seriously cut to the most fundanmental things in our lives and country, and which the PM now has to pay into those neglected areas. The National Media is suddenly shocked-they just can’t see that us PEONS and the military are getting money instead of themselves(media and LPOC)
When Chretien took five hundred million dollars to cancel MULRONEY’s purchase of Helicopters for our troops and coast guards, the media said nothing; as though our troops are not worth a dime. Yet the millions which this prime minister stephen harper has To pour back into the militaary, the national media instead of standing by him, decided to go against him.
Remember when the prime minister wanted to make cuts well the national media the liberals ndp and bloc were all ready to bring him down overnight.
I wasn’t sure where to offer up this link but I suppose this will do.
It is very calming and rational and further examines what is now, a significant adjustment in the delivery of the vaccinations, nationally.

Thanks Bec. Frmgrl just mentioned that too on another thread. I will definitely check that out. Much appreciated.
[...] What crisis? Flu-shot experience was efficient, polite – L. Ian Macdonald (H/T Bec and Frmgrl) Filed under Canadian Government, H1N1, Health care Comment (RSS) [...]
If the media and opposition think people are cowering in their basements afraid to go out for fear of getting the H1N1 flu they better think again. The shopping malls were packed yesterday(Friday) and again today. Same goes for the restaurants we ate in.
I’m thinking that people are turning the media and the doom and gloomer off because they prefer their own common sense? Maybe someone should break it to Iffy and his trained pundits?
As a matter of fact the malls were so busy with shoppers that it’s also throwing Iffy’s economic doom and gloom out of whack.
Richco – There was an announcement on the local radio station that there was no lineup at a H1N1 vaccination clinic this morning, and that they are asking for people to go there and get their shots!
Shortage? What Shortage? More like a shortage of leadership and ideas from The Waffle Party.
Anyone think perhaps the so-called second wave of Swine flu has passed much like the first wave?
The panic mongers in the HOC and the media managed to instill fear about the safety of the vaccine and when that got dispelled by the health professionals they moved on to howl like banshees about not enough supply and complain about the delivery which couldn’t keep up with the demand.
If they had done what was right and moral they should have shut their traps and listened to the people who know, those who produce the vaccines and those in the medical profession.
The Opposition in the HOC are a total disgrace, they’re jumping from one thing to another playing gotcha games like the energizer bunny on speed. They’re so blinded by lust for power they’re heading right into the abyss. The flu is H1N1, they are the swine.
They were twiddling their thumbs at the clinic in Waterloo.
Where was the media outrage in Regina today, or the cbc, or Bennett. People started lining up an hour before the doors opened, in their pjs, looked sort of cold and windy out there.
People were excited and some cried.
Were they waiting for a flu shot, H1N1 shot, no, they were waiting for the Humane Society Doors to open to adopt a pet.
Everyone was in pjs, even the staff for the first every pj party to adopt a pet. Adoption fees were waived, free vet exams provided.
Wonder if any of them lined up and complained at a clinic.
LOL! AWESOME Mary T @ 7:15pm
Absolutely awesome!
Caught pics of the clinics in AB today, average wait, about 10 minutes-paper work- They were empty. How many pregnant women do they think there are in AB, or how many kids under five.
Lots of staff with nothing to do.
But, it is the weekend, who wants to give up their weekend.
No one should complain re wait times again.
Story at NNW, critics are now saying that production of the regular flu vaccine should have been stopped to make H1N1. Guess that is the next outrage for Bennett to tackle.
And if they had stopped the seasonal flu, how would that have played out. Guess no one took one for the team today re QP, no comments anywhere.
Finally clicked on ctv for some of PP, and caught some other news. It seems some new game hit the market last night at midnight. Showed people lined up for hours to get one. Very long lines.
So, in Toronto they will line up for a new game
In Regina they will line up for pets
But, if you have to line up for a flu shot it is a major disaster.
Has anyone picked up on the stories re how the WHO changed their definition of a pandemic before issuing all their warning re H1N1. Seems they could have been guilty of sending out misinformation that caused the world to panic.
Perhaps we should ignore any further warnings from WHO as they have been wrong so many times. DDT comes to mind.
We have had a few more deaths in AB, but now the papers and media are saying many of those that died had underlying medical conditions that could have contributed to their death.
I would love to see a class action suit against Bennett and pals, and the media for causing said panic. From a recent poll, the public didn’t buy it.
