Michael Ignatieff on Dalton McGuinty’s full-day kindergarten scheme:
“When I see a Dalton McGuinty get up in the teeth of a recession, in the teeth of a deficit, and commit to full-day kindergarten, I am proud to be a Liberal,” he told the crowd.
Be afraid, Canada. Be very afraid.

Update: More from Sandy – Why McGuinty all-day Kindergarten is flawed.
Sunday Update: Ailing Liberals keep looking for a miracle cure – Angelo Persichilli
We can’t afford all-day JK/SK – John Snobelen

If he gets this will the kids have to sing mmm mmm Dalton.
Is he nuts? Iffy actually endorses borrowing billions more dollars to hand out to unions for what amounts to very expensive daycare? He should go back to Planet Obama where the good faeries print money until….
Well you know, there isn’t a social program that doesn’t make a Liberal giddy and this one facing the Ontario public, would reduce the cost of the Federal Liberal Universal Daycare Plan by millions.
The only Ontarians that may embrace this idea are those that wish to reduce their personal parenting time (and yes, they exist)and parents that wish to reduce their daycare costs.
This initiative only applies to a fraction of the population and although I too had all of my kids in an early learning environment, I PAID FOR IT and would never have supported a government that expected my neighbours to enhance the educational experiences of my children. I was able to freely choose the curriculum, length of time and quality of the facility.
It was invaluable, hands on, parent participation friendly and my choice.
What Ontario is suggesting and apparently now Iffy supports, is state sponsored Daycare, dressed up as Kindergarten.
Ahh wife’s off to work, kid’s at all day kindergarten and I’m off to the hardware store, after the morning news and coffee of coarse. Maybe stop off at Timmie’s, Dr. Phil in the afternoon and start supper. Gotta love Dalton’s day care.
State sponsored warehousing so all the good parents can go out and make mega tax dollars for you know who. So perfect and oh so liberal. I agree we should all be VERY afraid!
I wonder if he is proud about not paying off his own debts. Leadership debts of $283000. Poor Iffy must be broke. Even owes Ian Davey $40000. Bye bye you goof.
“When I see a Dalton McGuinty get up in the teeth of a recession, in the teeth of a deficit, and commit to full-day kindergarten, I am proud to be a Liberal,” he told the crowd.
That is just about one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.
First let’s give Iffy a lesson of his own shall we? It’s not full-day Kindergarten we’re talking about it’s full-day JK and SK – 3 and 4 year olds.
What should really bother Ontarians is that McGuinty, once again couldn’t say no to the elementary teachers who bullied the ECE folks into working WITH the ECEs to take the “classes”, which we know really aren’t “classes” but childcare. What we’ll have is both a certified teacher AND an ECE in the same room. Get that? We’re paying double for what the ECE could have done on their own.
Not to mention all of those private and municipal daycares that will be put out of business with free daycare. Where ARE the municpalities screaming bloody murder on this?
Remember that the Bob Rae government tried to slip this same stuff bye voters and lost big time. Mike Harris fought it tooth and nail. Do we know Hudak’s position?
McGuilty and Iffy are out to lunch. Liberal$ divorced from reality? Could this be possible?
So if McGuinty is ousted by Hudak, is Iffy is still going to proud?
Quebec and Ontario both get equalization, (the Atlantic provinces get their own sweet deal),
yet can afford to double kindergarden cost ($7 daycare), and plonk $10 Billion down for NB Power.
Yet the ROC bailed out the auto and forestry industries, Quebecers got an extra tax refund from the fiscal imbalnce joke,
and the West is looking at the fight of our lives to stopping Liberals, Dippers, the BLOC and Suzuki shake us down for Billions in a wealth transfers,
to their voting base.
Kids are in school long enough, when you consider 13 years of public-funded formal education before going on to post-secondary pursuits. Pre-kindergarten I thought was just another way of freeing up housewives and merely a babysitting alternative. As for full-day kindergarten, it’s along the same lines. I’m not sure of any benefits derived from subjecting 4 and 5 year olds to such lengthy classroom time. They’re too young for that, and I do not feel it is part of their normal upbringing at this stage of life. If the self-acclaimed Great One believes that jump-starting kids’ education this way will create more “IG HEADS”, then of course he’ll show solidarity to the Dalton Gang’s provincial plan. With everything else that the people of Ontario have to put up with from this Liebral administration, it’s just another reason to joyfully anticipate the next election whereby these Stooges will be ousted in favour of a Blue Team led by Tim Hudak.
OT, but announced on our local ctv news from Calgary,

ALL FLU CLINICS IN ALBERTA CANCELED TILL FURTHER NOTICE.
Check the news before going out to find one.
Iggy/Iffy can support all day kindergarten if he wishes, it’s a provincial decision. He must surely have discussed it with his child care expert Drone Dryden who’s a pusher for state sponsored daycare. If they keep on this track our kids will be products of the state.
McSwinty seems to be ignoring just how broke he is or the true cost of such madness. Unlike Communist China, we can and should speak out on this one.

Sorry, forgot to add great post! Can’t wait to see your next post!
That is just about one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.
Exactly. What a dolt.
O/T but did any of you see Lib senator wannabe Craig Oliver last eve ‘hyping’ what’s on QP today? Honest to God,it was so Lib-partisan,and just hateful toward the Cons I couldn’t believe it! I can just imagine what QP will be like today..as for the msm I am sick to death of the frenzy they are creating over the flu..that dolt lib mp,Kristy Duncan was on ctv yesterday, and her phony, whiny voice and blatant falsehoods she puts out (with no correction from J.Milczarek..lib toady)were ridiculous.
cbc is even worse, they should just change their logo to H1N1,as it’s pretty much 24/7.you know,if any of the msm were honest, and wanted to put forth some real data, where are the numbers and comparisons to just regular flu illnesses? And,harsh as it may seem, the death rate of reg.flu victims..I worked healthcare for over 30 yrs,and I can guarantee you, that plain old flu sadly, takes far more people than H1N1 has.All I want is some fair and honest reporting, and for the msm to stop scaring the H.out of people.they are creating the panic..and it’s more than pathetic, that the libs/msm are politicizing this.

Next for Iffy?
Iffy announces National Dog Care: funding for the Mutt Industry.
Here is the pitch:
“We have different sources of funds, but it’s a tough go for people. . . . I think in Canada we really were on a good growth path. It’s just whether we can keep it up across the country.”
Mutt owners have votes, Iffy.
Sic ‘em.

Hey Jo,I always hate to go O/T..maybe you should put up a ‘grab-bag’ post (sorta like Kate’s readers tips) to catch all that stuff!
Further to my prev post,I just wanted to relay this little story..it highlights the confusion re the ‘shot’i have a client, that is 5 mos pregnant, has 2 other wee ones, and at her last pre-natal she asked her Dr.about the shot, and he told her not to worry about it yet! Isn’t she in ‘high risk’ category??????
Let the parents of four and five year olds decide to put their kids in the new kindergarten program. Most parents already take advantage of the current half-day/alternate day kindergarten program.
I think all Iggy was trying to say is that he would be a federal McGuinty: the perfect horror for a Halloween evening.
snobellen on this:
http://www.torontosun.com/comment/columnists/john_snobelen/2009/11/01/11594621-sun.html
Sammy, I never get upset about people going ‘off topic’ as long as it’s relevant to politics or Canadian news.
i have a client, that is 5 mos pregnant, has 2 other wee ones, and at her last pre-natal she asked her Dr.about the shot, and he told her not to worry about it yet! Isn’t she in ‘high risk’ category??????
No kidding! I was told that even my husband and I are high-risk because we are around the new baby so much.
Angelo Persichilli on Donolo come to save the Libs:
“Now it’s Peter Donolo’s turn to play the role of designated saviour. The Liberals are so eager to get back into power that they keep pinning their hopes on the magic of one person to resuscitate the ailing party.
Like a desperate patient with a serious disease, they would rather resort to a sorcerer with a magic wand instead of following the proper – probably painful – therapy of conventional medicine.”
http://www.thestar.com/comment/article/719021?bn=1
Jo,I was thinking of just that (being a new Granny myself) and I work with young families on a daily basis. But…I still feel that this hysteria has been created by the msm,and for them and the Libs to try and place all the blame on the Fed Gov’t is not fair.Kristy Duncan went on and on about Cons gov’t only having one producer of the vaccine, then she started praising the US response..BUT she and ctv host neglected to mention that in the US,they had 5 producers of vaccine, and they are in a much bigger mess than Canada. All I ask, that the media be more responsible, and Craig Oliver’s best buddy Bob Rae should shut the H.up!When they start throwing out comments pretty much blaming PMSH for death’s they’ve crossed a line.
I wish PMSH would come out and do a press conference and quell some of this craziness. His calm, and sensible manner would do a lot to stem some of the frenetic nonsense going on right now.
BTW,I have a few other stories about families I wrk with..and it has been me that has been relaying most of the info they have gotten on H1N1People need to take some personal responsibility to get informed..and consult with their own Dr’s.
After spending a 5 hr client visit, with a young Mom (that was hacking and coughing into the atmosphere with NO attempt to cover anything) and 3 pre-schoolers..I did a mini-lecture with her.She had NO clue about H1N1,but if you spend all your time watching soap-operas,and your personal hygiene is pitiful..what can I say.I called the Pub.health nurse and made arrangements for her to come to the home as soon as feasible to do the ‘shots’ as I need to be protected as well.My ‘workplace’ has given us H1N1 kits for our own protection, but I can’t do it all!I have had a bout of the normal flu..thankfully it was a one-day wonder!
People need to take some personal responsibility to get informed..and consult with their own Dr’s.
I totally agree. You need to consult with your doctor and then try to make an informed decision.
But the hype and the blame by the opposition parties is disgusting.
Focus Ontario on Global last night at 6:30 was really good. I hope that the segment appears online soon. Sean Mallen covered both the Kindergarten issue and the H1N1. But the best part was at the end when they said they caught former Health Minister David Caplan playing Sudoku in the Legislature.
McGuinty was totally caught off guard when asked about it. He finally replied, “We have very intelligent people in our caucus, who can do two things at once.” [Translation from French]
Maybe that’s what went wrong with eHealth. Caplan was playing Sudoku instead of paying attention.
We have a local Doctor that is telling his patients that anyone over 60 already has immunity to the H1N1 virus and does not need to take the shot. I read about the immunity earlier, but it has been lost in all the hype lately.
Why does it have to be gov’t run? There is such a thing as preschool, where you can put your 3 or 4 year old in a little community program and PAY FOR IT YOURSELF.
Jeepers, I wish people would just take some responsibility for their own once.
The comment Iffy made about this making him proud to be a Liberal – I can’t help but think he said that because he thought that’s what Liberals want to hear. But in my heart of hearts I don’t think he really believes that!? Or is he just completely devoid of any fiscal common sense?? I mean, wording like that fits right in with the NDP!
It really boggles the mind how dumb that comment was.
Wot’s this fuss about?
Canadians do not pay for their shots now.
Why would anyone want to pay for their shots when it’s free from the left-liberal Iffy Big Nanny Government.
‘member, it’s free.
Tahnk you, Iffy and Tommy DouglasNDP.

“New controversy surrounds H1N1 vaccine clinics
680 News – 21 minutes ago
A controversy is emerging over private clinics obtaining the H1N1 vaccine, suggesting quicker and easier access for those able to pay for the shot.”

Yeah! He’s basically saying ‘Oh boy. McGuinty is going to spend all that money and get Ontario even deeper into debt. How great is that?”
Here’s the reason Iffy wants National Dog Care.
Iffy wants to herd all the little huskies into his Big Warm Fuzzy Carpetbagger Liberal Igloo ‘fore the Big Freeze arrives.
Those little huskies will grow up and vote Iffy Liberal.

“Lawrence Solomon: Enjoy the warmth while it lasts
By Lawrence Solomon
Thank your lucky stars to be alive on Earth at this time. Our planet is usually in a deep freeze. The last million years have cycled through Ice Ages that last about 100,000 years each, with warmer slivers of about 10,000 years in between.”
http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fpcomment/archive/2009/10/30/lawrence-solomon-enjoy-the-warmth-while-it-lasts.aspx
I wonder how many of those parents that want free kindergarten or daycare, cause they can’t afford it, have no problem coming up with mega amounts for golf memberships, gym memberships, and the latest in phones, and other gadgets.
We had this argument several years ago and I asked the parent’s how many golfed and curled. Most hands went up, and I asked what does that cost you, as a couple. Over 600.00 per sport and you can’t come up with 200.00/child for kindergarten.
caz is right. This ill-conceived and asinine move by McGuilty to incarcerate our three- and four-year olds in all-day “daycare” (JK and SK) is a money grab, the idea being that ALL Ontario parents need to enter the work force: all the more tax dollars for the provincial coffers, my dear.
Even more insidious, is that our children become indoctrinated to the state’s ideas at an earlier and earlier age. When parents interact with their children only a few hours a day — a rushed hour and a half in the morning, an even more rushed and stressful few hours after-school till bedtime — guess who has the greatest influence on the kids?
Yup. Their caregivers and their peer group.
‘Ever wonder why our children are increasingly impervious to an adult voice, let alone adult guidance, correction, and advice? It has a lot to do with “peer orientation.” Check out the book “Hold Onto Your Kids: Why Parents Matter” by Gordon Neufeld and Gabor Mate (2004). (Review: http://attachment-parenting.suite101.com/article.cfm/a_review_of_hold_on_to_your_kids)
This initiative by McGuilty and its endorsement by his federal counterpart, Iffy, is scary, something along the lines of Mind and Body Snatchers.
Then, when increasing numbers of children demonstrate anti-social, ADD, ADHD, ODD behaviours, the state rushes in to create tax-funded programs to provide therapy. It becomes a vicious circle, and I mean vicious, with parents increasingly shunted aside to make way for “experts” in childcare, just another word for highly paid indoctrinators of statecraft.
Hold onto your kids, folks!
Up in the teeth in a recession and defict, spend spend spend….isn’t that what Bob Rae did when he was Premier?
asking, cuz don’t know.

BTW, McGuilty’s wife is a teacher. Doesn’t this put him in a conflict of interest situation when giving over to teachers’ unions such a huge money-making initiative?
Wouldn’t it be great not to have such an appeaser at the helm of our provincial government? Duh-lton McGuilty: All wimp, all of the time.
QP is on now. Craig Oliver is badgering Leona A. and trying to pin the ‘blame’ somewhere. She is holding her own very well.
This is the absolute worst that Craig Oliver has ever been.
Jane Taber is awful too. This is worth an email of complaint.
I’m glad it’s you watching them, Jo, and not me. I don’t have the stomach for Canadian news shows.
Yeah, I guess I’m taking one for the team here. Not good for anyone’s blood pressure.
Carolyn Bennett is a complete and utter disgrace to the medical profession. Her ranting today on QP raises the question about the competency of our medical schools.
Oliver on the other hand just displays bitchiness. No surprise there.
Watching QP, good gawd.
Oliver and Taber attacking Heatlth Minister and Chief ? of Health… they were reminded that a few weeks ago, only 1/3 of Canadians indicated they wanted the vaccine.
Then Judy Washshwashh and Caroline Bennett get their turn to blame the feds for line ups and people dying…
Next up will be Iffy handing our candy and Alps ? interview.
All Liberal all the time….don’t waste the hour watching this crap!
Just in case anyone isn’t familiar with ODD, one of the more recent designations for children with behavioural problems: It’s the acronym for Oppositional Defiance Disorder.
‘Notice that the kid is diagnosed with a disorder, in order not to make the adults/the parent/s feel guilty — and so that the state can begin correctional therapy right away? ‘Not a whisper of a suggestion that ODD may be, and probably is, the result of abominable parenting, you know?, maybe this kid’s appalling behaviour has SOMETHING to do with what happens at home.
Our therapeutic society depends on BIG GOVERNMENT to fix all of the problems. ‘Never mind going to the root of the problem. In fact, the agenda is NEVER go to the real root of the problem: Encourage the problem so that the state can ride in on its white charger and save the day: That’s why the state needs all our money!
Well, not in my world!
QP, panel askes tough questions (surprisingly) Travers says he was told that Iffy made the decisions yet Davey got fired.
In short, Apps ? says it’s all meanie Harper’s fault that Iffy won’t lay out policy. The cons will just twist it into bad stuff, so no policy until the election.
He said Iffy will bring Hope and Change….gag me.
I don’t know why, but I sense desperation on the part of the Taber, Oliver, Travers et al.
Like maybe they can make the H1N1 crisis stick to someone and they’re hoping it will be the feds.
This is just another example why Iffy and the Liberals are in free fall in the polls.
Make hay out of the body bag delivery and then send 10% about the same issue.
Scream about the size of the federal deficit and then praise McGuinty for increasing his.
Yell about partisan stimulus funding only to have said McGuinty state he took part in the selection process.
Complain about arrogance and then have Hedy Fry demand an H1N1 vaccination because she “shakes hands”.
Complain about foreign policy and have a leader who can’t make a firm stance on any important decision or policy.
Iffy referrong to McGuinty as a great leader smacks of WK giving talking points. Much like Chretien, he thinks McGuinty is a demagod who voters fawn over.
Problem is McGuinty is now following Iffy in polling trends. Now one should ask what is the common denominator between Iffy and McGuinty.
Iffy: I’m so darn proud to be a Liberal, just like McGuinty, who stares at the sharp teeth of a huge disastrous deficit, yet is brave enough to shout “I don’t care how broke this province is, I want to spend MORE MORE MORE!!!!!(evil laugh).
Dumb and Dumber.
Short Weston and Travers, the big cheques didn’t stick but this will, Canadians will blame the feds.
The msm always assumes that THEY are the ones Canadians listen to, not the Ministers….are they wrong?
MUST BOYCOTT CTV AFTER THAT DISGRACE ON QP TODAY! Send e-mails to let ctv, also to QP directly (there’s an e-mail link on ctv website)..I also think we should let their advertisers know we aren’t happy. That was outright badgering by Oliver..and it truly highlights where his allegiances lie.Take note, after the Apps interview when Craig says something about how ‘they all knew what a great mind Iggy was’..non-partisan??? My A**!
Look at it this way Joanne. If it weren’t for the H1N1 illness neither Taber, Oliver or Travers would have anything to twist and monger. No news whatsoever coming from the Liberals that positive.
Why anyone is tuning in to CTV any more is beyond me. I’m sure when Taber and Oliver look in to BLY, it just spurns them on to do more of the same. The sad part is though that the viewers here get included in the viewership nos. and it makes CTV and QP look better and more popular than it really is.
I stopped watching CTV long ago, and will not be tuning in to that channel for Olympic coverage either. Lloyd Robertson is a relic and I can’t imagine Taber and Oliver dolled up in their fuzzy mittens and earmuffs doing play-by-plays on ice dancing or luge.
For weeks Craig Oliver has been forecasting that the conservative government would be held accountable for perceived faults in the vaccine rollout. CTV and CBC are doing their best to change Stephen harper’s polling numbers on the backs of Canadian lives.
They are looking for a way to blame Stephen Harper for the delivery of 3000 shots of vaccine to private health clinic. I noticed that did not have the Ontario Health minister on to answer for this! CTV doing their best to protect Ontario Liberal government.
Also noticed predictable free ride for Caroline Bennett on disgusting 10%er pamphlets from Craig Oliver.
This is exactly what the media and opps did with Afghanistan (once Cons were in govt) and the ‘worst recession since the Great Depression’.
Badger and blame,
tell half truths.
The media and opps created a panic here, to score political points against the government.
Perfectly healthy people are pushing and shoving their way into line ups, created by hysteria, for a vaccine they do.not.need.
So, the big cheques didn’t stick but this will. By the time the next election rolls around this will be so far back in importance it will not matter.
Perhaps all those in the media do see the writing on the wall, a majority for PMSH is the only way to stop the ranting and they just might be out of a job.
No one will believe them is they ever start praising the govt.
Maybe those of us on the AR poll list shoud suggest this question/s
Do you listen to ctv/cbc/global
What is your opinion
Who is your least liked news person
Have any program, QP, PP, At Issue influenced you in your opinion of PMSH If so how, for or against.
Might be an interesting result.
So far my last question has not appeared-are you concerned about the treatment of afghan prisoners, who have tried to kill our troops.
As ranting owl reminds us, this is Veterans week.
Good video tribute to our brave soldiers here (right side)
http://www.canada.com/news/national/index.html
Agreed, QP was about the worst yet and that’s saying something. The Liberals and their shills don’t seem to get it, we don’t want them to govern, they can’t even do a job of Official Opposition. How about that Iggy fella, wearing a BLUE sweater, to hand out Halloween treats? Is he not comfortable in RED?
What is it the Federal government could do more than they have about the H1N1 vaccine? Those who make the vaccine and the medical “experts” are the one’s we have to listen to, not people like Boob Rae, Carolyn Bennett and Fry. They’re plating politics with this new strain of flu, plain and simple, there’s nothing they could possibly have done better.
Angelo Perichilli has a good read in the Opinion page of Toronto Star today: “Ailing Liberals keep looking for a miracle cure”. He’s got it right on. Sorry don’t have the link.
Today’s on-line poll in the Globe and MailIs the fear about the H1N1 vaccine unreasonable?
Yes(74%)
No(26%)
I guess that 26% would be opposition politicians and the MSM. The rest of us are apparently more sensible.
Sorry, the cut-and-paste didn’t work too well. The question was
Is the fear about the H1N1 vaccine unreasonable ?
Yes (74%)
No (26%)
LizJ @12:40
I left a link above on the Angelo Perichilli story at frmgrl@ 9:41 am.
There ain’t no cure for the ailing Liberal$. They’re a virus in the Canadian body politic, which only time will either kill or cure.
Yeah that Persichilli column is really good.
Re: QP. I sometimes wonder if I should bother watching it, but we need to hold them accountable.
I don’t know if the CRTC should be contacted, but that particular show was really over the top in trying to instigate anger and backlash about H1N1.
A good question would be, who do you blame for the H1N1 fiasco. My vote goes to Bennett, followed by QP/PP and all cbc stories.
Is it really PMSH’s fault there is only one manufacturer of the vaccine in Canada. How many were manufacturing vaccine in 2000.
Who do I blame for loss of manufacturing of vaccines, lawyers and lawsuits for those that want to blame anyone but themselves for their problems.
Rush will be on Fox News Sunday in a few minutes. Clips show it will be a good show to watch. Beats QP.
Liberals are a virus, wanting to ruin our way of life, get a shot of conservatism to cure our country.
Waiting for the next polls to see if Donalo has cured iffy of his illness.
People should pack Dr. Carolyn Bennett’s , dr. Frye’s, dr. Keith Martin’s office as well as doctors in the NDP and Bloc and demand to get HINI flu shot. That’s right folks, since Bennett and FRYE want to ‘PANIC’ the nation, then pack their OFFICES. Oh by the way, you don’t need to be her patient.
Now let see how those doctors will react to sudden burst of people pouring into their building.
I gaurantee you their tune will change so fast.
Now I know why that old fool Oliver was so pi**ed off today! link over at Natnewswatch to column in Mont.Gazette:PM’s absence from China hasn’t hurt Canada.
last eve Cranky Oliver was on ctv spewing vitriol over this topic..how PMSH had wasted opportunities, human rights be damned, and ‘I was with Chretien on his first trip to China’..yeah Craig,we know you love Libs…so,I’m thinking this column got ol’ Cranky’s knickers in a twist,so he had to come out swinging. It just made him look so partisan and spiteful..and don’t get me wrong, every death is a tragedy, but, also sadly a fact of life. I want to see numbers on regular flu deaths,so at least there will be some context.I remember few yrs back,I was working in a Long-Term Care Facility, and we had a ‘bug’ go thru and it ended the life of 5 residents in less than a month.
It’s probably a waste of time talking to anyone in the Liberal “front bench”or back bench they’re either too thick to comprehend the anatomy of the situation, new flu strain, making enough to go around and delivering it to the people. Remember, most of them were spreading fear by questioning it’s safety, resulting in many saying they were not going to take it.
The Liberals and the media are not part of a solution, they’ve teamed up to be part of the problem. H1N1 is for them another chance to try to GET at the Conservative government and knock down their rising polling numbers. They’re a pack of idiots and fools with no care about anything beyond getting power for Liberals. People won’t be fooled by their disgraceful antics.
You folks are sick. If the past months have taught us anything at all, it’s that the LPOC and the media are irrelevant to the thinking, feeling, public and voters.
Rex Murphy’s bit on CBC last night was excellent by the way.
It’s called changing the channel and watching the truth rather than what’s passed off as fact on CTV.
This is not holding them to account. What will, is if viewership drops off significantly. Something you folks are contributing to under the guise of holding them to account. They aren’t accountable to the viewer Joanne – that should be clear.
Canadians are proving to be smarter than the LPOC and the media put together. All the media is doing is propping up an undeserving leader. At the end of the day we’re still in the best hands under Harper.
MP MacKay to marry CTV news executive
It was no ….
NNW. Could this be one reason Oliver and Tabar are out to lunch.
I haven’t watched QP yet … I tape it for viewing later on, when I’m in the mood to roll my eyes and scream at the TV … but I did leave a comment at the CTV website, which I got to via NNW. That comment has not shown up yet, and I doubt it will be published.
The point I made in that comment is that other countries are also experiencing shortages of the vaccine, including the US and those in the EU. The demand has become greater due to the amount of coverage the H1N1 flu has been receiving, and if there have been mixed messages, it is because the media, in its usual way, rushes to broadcast unverified information, while equally relevant information which might diminish the public’s fears does not get equal play.
For example (revised Google Translation):

“ONTARIO
What did young Evan die from?
Updated: 31/10/2009 1:38 pm
The health authorities issued an update on the cause of death of Evan Frustaglio, the young Ontario hockey player who died last week.
The 13-year-old was first diagnosed with the virus A (H1N1) influenza. Then, it was suggested he might have been suffering from meningitis.
As there was much ambiguity, the national director of public health is back on the case. He informed us that parents do not wish to request an autopsy.
We shall therefore have no confirmation whether the influenza A (H1N1) is responsible for his death.”
Because of that young man’s unfortunate death, the media stepped up its coverage of H1N1, the opposition stepped up its unfounded accusations, the public stepped up to the clinics to get vaccinated, and the media redoubled its efforts to find a culprit.
Richco, I may be mistaken … but didn’t you say sometime back that you were somehow connected to the media, maybe a local newspaper?
Again, maybe I’m mistaken, and am confusing you with CC or Sol who also used to scold readers of this blog for watching CTV and CBC.
But if you are connected with the media, be it local or national, in whatever function, don’t you think readers of this blog can make up their own minds as to what to watch? And if you do actually work in the media, wouldn’t you welcome some feedback?
It has happened in the past that some media people have read this blog, so maybe some of the criticism does get back to them.
So, I don’t understand why you are so dead set against BLY readers venting their frustration with what they consider unfair media coverage and simultaneously airing some relevant issues.
I mean, to say something like “You folks are sick” is pretty extreme, don’t you think?
Gabby – why is it that my point of view, because it’s different is “scolding”. It’s my opinion, just as yours is. I’ve never said I was connected to media, you must have me mistaken.
The continued negative drone of this is not helpful to any media visiting.
If I was connected to the media, I might say exactly the same thing, and suggest that sure everyone is responsible for their view choice, when it comes to the constant complaining about watching that choice then, to me the choice is simple, don’t watch.
What I would also say if I were connected to the media is that in visiting here looking for inspiration and support for Blue is what the BLY folks are best at. Good researchers, gives media folks some clues as to where to look for information etc…..but changing that bias and bad reporting? No, not on your life. What will move folks is when the sponsors and network sees
a severe drop in viewership and then needs to change to save itself.
Venting frustration for unfair media coverage is one thing, but I’m pretty sure that you’ve noticed the piling on on occasions too if I’m not mistaken.
I visit here looking for he positive and having faith in Canadians to see through the crap, so don’t need it pointed out just to have something to say or do. Which is the impression I’m left with sometimes.
Let’s be very clear Gabby. Are you looking to call me out?
PS – When one continues to do something that causes anger and frustration when one has a choice to do otherwise, isn’t sick in the term you seem to think Gabby but it sure as heck isn’t healthy either is it?
Well it looks like things are heating up again between Richco and Gabby. I may have to put comment moderation back on.
However, this is a free speech forum as long as there aren’t any personal attacks. Nobody needs to lecture anyone else either.
If someone wants to watch a biased show and then call them up on that, it’s their choice. Others may choose to turn the channel. But the latter will only be effective if the broadcaster and sponsors are contacted as well.
And if anyone is unhappy with what is discussed on this blog they are free to look elsewhere for their ‘political fix’ – as always.
Richo, your comment “you folks are sick”, reeks of condescending arrogance, surely you don’t mean it!
Are you saying we shouldn’t be criticizing the Liberals or the media because it’s not positive? Not positive for who? The media visiting here should be looking for points of view, maybe even tips, nothing more.
Oh this is interesting! Read who Peter MacKay just got engaged to! Mmmmm…
This is at NNW, that I referred to at 2.15. Could it be what has the QP duo so upset.
ADSCAM, government is calling committee to ask AG to investigate!!!!
The Standing committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics calls on the Auditor General of Canada to conduct a full audit of the sponsorship program to determine which federal Liberal riding associations received stolen funds and to clarify for Canadians who received the missing $43 million dollars.

“Motion on Adscam to be moved
I’ve learned that Peterborough Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro will move the following motion at committee on Tuesday:
November 1st 2009 represents the fourth anniversary of the first report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities, presided over by Justice Gomery. Despite the time that has passed, we are no closer to knowing which Federal Liberal riding associations benefited from the stolen taxpayer funds or where the missing $43 million dollars highlighted by Justice Gomery ultimately wound up.

Oh yeah! Sorry about that Mary T. I have a cold and I’m a bit foggy today.
Yes, that could very well be why they were acting so vindictively.
BTW what did you mean at 2:15 when you said “It was no ….”?
Careful re Ontario being a “have not” province. It sends out billions to Ottawa and now gets back a few hundred million. The ROC (the west) are NOT subsidizing Ontario. Quebec maybe, but not Ontario. This is a real sore point with me. As it no doubt is for Albertans — who really do subsidize Quebec (as does Ontario, in spite of getting a bit back now).
Liz – it’s may appear condescending but I’m not attacking anyone personally. As I explained when you continue to do what makes you miserable and angry over and over and over it’s a bit much, and likely not healthy either…hey, but at Joanne suggests it’s your choice.
You have to admit that it goes overboard to the point of overkill sometimes. Unless(again as Joanne suggest) each and every complaint is followed by a letter to the network, writer etc. then
it’s all empty rhetoric in my opinion.
Conservatives have the leader of their dreams running the country and all some want to do is talk about a party – the LPOC who have lost relevance with Canadians….as have their media support.
It is not condescending in the least to suggest that in watching you choose to contribute to their continuance.
You’re right about media looking for tips. I also believe they look in to see just how supportive of Harper the conservative base is. When all that’s offered sometimes is a continued diet of “look what the Liberals did now” (something the media has been doing better lately I might add) then I have to wonder whether the conservative grassroots have a confidence problem in their leader if the discussion is always about the losers not the winners.
By the way, I do include myself in the misery likes company sickness. It’s easy to get caught up…until you step away or change the channel you can’t see clearly.
re: potential ADSCAM motion – if it’s true a beautifully strategic move on the part of the government for Canadians!!
I just copied and pasted the headline re the engagement, and the story goes on from It was no -didn’t go further down in the story.
G/son phoned when I was doing this and I had to go to the webcam to see all his candy.
As you well know, grandma duties come first. Hit post to take the call.
Richco at 3:02:
“Let’s be very clear Gabby. Are you looking to call me out?”
Call you out on what? Asking for fisticuffs? NO.
I’m simply expressing an opinion on your comment “You folks are sick.” I guess it irked me.
I’m not looking for any kind of fight or extended argument, especially with a fellow conservative. You are free to express your opinion, as are other BLY visitors. But no one needs to be labelled as “sick” because you disapprove of what they are doing, IMO.
And I’ll leave it at that.
Re Gabby’s comments about misreporting, and her quote at 2.32 “what did young evan die from”:
“As there was much ambiguity, the national director of public health is back on the case. He informed us that parents do not wish to request an autopsy.”
I don’t believe it is up to the parents to request an autopsy. If someone who is not under continuing medical care dies, there is automatically an autopsy.
In this case, if there is the suspiciion that he died either from H1N1 or meningitis, the community has a right to know so that they can take precautions, an autopsy would be ordered automatically and the result published.
Sheila Fraser uncovered Adscam, (G&M investigation cracked it wide open)
she can just pick up where she left off!!!!
BLOC and Dippers will have a tough time explaining why,
is they don’t vote yes to this motion.
Now that I think of it, perhaps we shouldn’t really be complaining about subsidizing Quebec. I wrote a post about it the other day as well. It is just going to be divisive, something the Liberals would like to see, us fighting among ourselves.
I just find it very irritating when a Province has enough money to make huge billion dollar investments while simultaneously saying they are “have not.”
But, Ontario really is in a different position. Until the McGuinty crew, we held up the federation for a century.
Sorry for being OT Joanne — but in a way it is related to the full-day kindergarten. Liberals just spend, spend, spend. A year ago, for the first time, QP got back a wee bit of money from the equalization program.
So, what does the government of Ontario do? Put us in the hole by $25 billion plus another billion or two with this kindergarten decision.
Having read the comments here, I am sure glad I didn’t watch QP today. Thanks Joanne for taking one for the team.

Hooray for the motion by Dean DelMaestro for Auditor General to investigate Adscam!!! Will CTV and CBC ignore this motion?
Man oh man! Just listening to Cross Country Checkup, and what an absolute breath of freshh air! It is of course on H1N1,with Dr.Butler Jones on,and it is really gratifying to hear the callers PRAISING the response by the Gov’t.Rex just had a Dr.from Guelph on as well, and he said ‘there is such a media hype over this’ and he spoke too about the poor young fellow that passed away in Ont,and stated ‘I questioned all the hype over this’…what a change from ctv,and Owly Oliver!
Just put up a post on the Motion re Adscam here: http://crux-of-the-matter.com/2009/11/01/motion-for-ag-to-uncover-where-adscam-went/

Sammy, that is so good to hear. Frankly I think politicians should be very careful about who they criticize on this one. Let’s just get the job done and then assess the way it was handled afterwards.
Sorry for being OT Joanne — but in a way it is related to the full-day kindergarten.
Hey Sandy. Mi casa es su casa.
And I never worry about folks being off-topic. That’s how I quite often discover breaking news.
ADSCAM, government is calling committee to ask AG to investigate!!!!
About time.
Which Liberal ridings benefited, if any? Enquiring minds want to know. No golf balls, please!
I appreciate play by plays about Question Period as I just can’t get myself to watch it, but I sure as heck want to know what Owl-eyes Oliver and Giggles Taber are up to.
One of the main strategies for winning a battle is to to know who your enemies are and what they’re up to. You’re also supposed to keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
If none of us watch QP, these media megaphones would be getting away with … well, lies and misinformation, in a word, Librano propaganda. ‘Not a good idea. Someone needs to keep an eye on them in order to hold them accountable, and I, for one, am grateful for the weekly reports.
Instead of watching QP, I watched a video at Officially Screwed, of Lord Moncton, on the global warming farce. I was glued to it, and it was over an hour long.
Stmts he made, that I had heard but never really thought about,
Henry Waxman, when the ice in antartic is melted, the tundra will be soggy (paraphrased) and he mentioned there is no tundra under the ice, it is ocean. Pelosi, thank god we have fossil fuel when we run out of natural gas.

BTW any of you catch Rex? I heard majority of his show, and not one negative caller Hmmm, may be worth switching to cbc for good if they keep this up!
You can post comment on ctv site re Dr Butler Jones…if they let you!
Jad at 4:41 pm: “Re Gabby’s comments about misreporting, and her quote at 2.32 “what did young evan die from”:
Just to be clear, I don’t think I mentioned “misreporting” in this thread. What I referred to was the kind of play the young man’s death has had in the media – which led to increased demand for the vaccine IMO – versus the very little play given to another or different possible cause of death.
I simply quoted from the Canoe website about the young victim.
I don’t know about autopsies. I know that when my parents died, we requested no autopsy, especially in my mother’s case who had told me personally when she was near the end. Did the hospitals comply with our requests? I don’t know. Perhaps in this case, because it’s a question of public health … I really don’t know. I respect the parents wishes and yet … I really don’t know.
And on a different note, I’m glad to hear about Rex Murphy’s program having mostly positive calls.
More on the engagement announcement:
…Not long after MacKay took up with Juginovic, now 35, although the pair kept their relationship secret for many months.
When it was revealed, Liberals quietly complained about the perception of a bias in having a senior CTV executive being romantically involved with a senior Conservative cabinet minister.
The network insists it had taken steps to ensure Juginovic is not involved in coverage of MacKay…
Woo-hoo! Payback time for the Toronto Star (and Globe)!
How many cbcers are involved with liberals, how about staffers at a couple of papers. And besides the bride to be is on a one year fellowship in Boston.
I read somewhere that ctv Cons hating reporter Roger Smith is married to a woman that works in some capacity with Lib party. There ought to be a disclaimer before he reports on any political story.
this morning in the toronto sun (the only paper so far covering this):
“NDP deputy leader Thomas Mulcair says his party wants to see the specifics of the motion but, if it’s broadly in line with a call to investigate what happened with adscam money, his party would most likely support it.
“We’re aware there are unanswered questions on the sponsorship scandal and we’re ready to help get to the bottom of what happened to the money,” said Mulcair. “
Sammy, I’ve heard that too but not sure how true it is. I’m pretty sure that Gloria Galloway of the Globe is married to a Liberal insider. I’ve heard rumours about Susan Delacourt too. I’m sure there are many others.
It’s not a problem as long as it is fully disclosed in any political story, as you say.
Tori, thanks for the info. If the NDP does get on board, this is great. What fantastic timing with the byelections coming up.
And Mulcair’s probably thinking ahead to the time he has to defend his own seat against Martin Cauchon.
So yes, Sammy and Joanne, we DO have a problem, since Gloria Galloway, Susan Delacourt, and now Roger Smith it seems, have marital counterparts within the Liberal Party. There are probably more, skating along the columns of the MSM, peddling their junk while being privy to Liebral inside information. Full disclosure of their status and connections should be made at the conclusions of their political articles. Anything less shows an unfair and irresponsible practice indicating collaboration between the MSM and the LPC, inconsistent with the treatment received by Conservative-leaning columnists, who always seem to be persecuted with regards to any right-wing affiliations they may have. It is a media contrived phenomenon which has been going on for at least a few years now. This should be THEIR PROBLEM, but it appears to remain OUR PROBLEM, since nobody ever does anything about this shameful deceit. It certainly needs to be discussed and exposed more than it is. We gratefully have access to some reference material available from SDA…>>

Well, of course, it’s not all that well-known except to those of us who dig out that information. Peter Donolo, until last week, appeared as a political pundit on CTV and the CBC, with ne’ry a word about his past association with Jean Chretien and the LPC.
The Canadian media is rife with connections to the Liberal$. It would be great if someone could make a list — ‘not so easy to do, however, seeing as most of it is insider stuff.

Maz2, I was all ready to do a post on Byer’s column and then I realized his theory was so ridiculous that I scrapped the whole thing.
Imagine Martin Cauchon giving up Outremont? Not very likely!
Full disclosure of their status and connections should be made at the conclusions of their political articles.
Tripper, I agree.
The coalition is still alive and they now have a new tactic. Byers has a column today suggesting that the libs/ndp do not run candidates in each others ridings, and drop out of ridings where one or the other come third. This way, no coalition would be out in the open, but could give the libs 30-40 seats and the ndp 10 more.
Would that work, would libs vote ndp to keep PMSH from a majority, or ndp vote lib for the same reason.
Something to think about.
If they are prepared to do that, and forgo their 1.95 by not having a candidate, good time to abolish it in the next budget.
How desperate are the libs to get back at the trough, what other schemes have they got planned. Does Donalo know about this, or is it his scheme.
And could it backfire and reduce the libs to less than a dozen seats.
NNW.
The comments on Byers column should prove that we will be watching for any tricks pulled by either party. I wonder how many lib/ndp voters are upset by the suggestion. A better bet for the ndp would be to go for the official opposition instead of the 4th party. And there is the possibility it will turn enough voters in Que off and give Gilles that position.
Joanne: Your 7:55 got a BIG LOL when I returned to BLY.

“The ceasefire agreement, once struck, could be expanded to include the Green party, which has always sought proportional representation and would benefit substantially from it.”
Byers hypocrisy,is astonishing.
In one breath he is suggesting that the Left NOT have full representation from their respective party in an election and then once they potentially take back their rightful place in government, they agree to proportional representation.
My head is still shaking in disbelief!
You know, it shouldn’t matter who is married to whom. Surely, spouses can think for themselves and have different political opinions. I mean that is what feminism is supposed to be about — equal rights, equal opportunity and the right to think for ourselves.
The very idea that I wouldn’t be able to get a job because my husband is a Liberal (which he isn’t) scares the pants off me. I grew up in the 50′s and folks, what some of you are implying here is what it was like. We were nothing more than parasites on our husbands.
So, let’s not worry about who is married or living with whom and simply take the person to task for what they say or write, not who their partner is.
I have weighed in here because I sense a panic that doesn’t need to be there. The people of Canada are not stupid. The majority know bias when they see it or read about it. Hang on to this positive message.
Conservatives rock!
Thanks for the common sense post Sandy.
I dared not suggest that some comments are getting over the top re: the good news for McKay.
I’m with you 100% on hanging on to that positive messaging.
I guess I’ll leave it at that.
This thread is getting a bit long, but I still wanted to make one final comment and to thank those who’ve contributed their research, thoughts and ideas. Sandy, yours is the voice of reason, and I can relate to what you’re bringing out here. Censorship, and even discrimination, based on relationships does introduce a bias which is unreasonable in a Canadian society where freedom of expression is paramount. I agree with your perception and apprehension. I would merely wish to see a “level playing field”, where a sense of honesty may be displayed by giving the columnist’s credentials and affiliations at the conclusion of his or her article. For instance, Tom Flannigan or Tim Powers could never get an argument across as “independants”, without the Liberal-based MSM branding them as Tories. Susan Delacourt and Gloria Galloway meanwhile are certainly Liberals at least by association, and the media has maintained their mainstream interconnectedness with the Left for over a century now. Thank-you Jen, for resourcefully coming up with that Denise Chong bio which includes the revelation of her marriage to Roger Smith. I’m still a relative rookie here, so I appreciate the journalistic and political education. Everyone working together makes that happen, and thanks again to Joanne for providing the excellent forum where these exchanges happen for the good of Canada.
