Adult if necessary, but not necessarily adult

Iffy waffles again!   (As Ardvark says at Biff’s, this is probably a new record.)

His handlers had originally put out a trial balloon that he wanted to have an ‘adult conversation’ about how to rein in the deficit (H/T Bec and Maz2):

Senior party insiders told The Canadian Press that the Liberal leader is about to launch a blunt discussion of the realistic options available for staunching the flow of red ink.

That includes tax increases, major spending cuts, remaining mired in deficit for years longer than anticipated, or some combination of the three.

Now suddenly the message changes:

Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff insists he has no plans to raise taxes.

Ignatieff issued a statement after senior party insiders told The Canadian Press that Ignatieff is about to conduct an “adult conversation” with Canadians about the painful measures necessary to eliminate the deficit.

O.K. So there are only two possible explanations here. Either Iffy changed his mind yet again, or else he has about as much control over his communications staff as he does over his Liberal Senators.

Far from being able to deal in the adult world, Michael Ignatieff reminds me of Dr. Dolittle’s Pushmi-pullyu – which Wikipedia defines as an “antelope/unicorn which has two heads at opposite ends of the body. When it tries to move, both heads try to go in opposite directions.”

If the Liberal Party of Toronto thinks that their Pushmi-pullyu is going to get them into power at 24 Sussex, then they’re living in a child’s fantasy world as well.

Or perhaps the adults are already quietly taking care of the problem.

He is done. Iffy is dead man walking. Not a chance he will recover. Iffy’s biggest challenge now is to get to hell out of the country carrying a thimble full of self-esteem. No one is going to let him do that. The liberal party will hobble him before they let him go. They eat their own.

Oh, and let’s all thank the LPOC for Michael Ignatieff because every time he opens his mouth it’s Christmas for Stephen Harper.

I say keep Ignatieff flapping his gums because it’s becoming clear that the more Canada see of Count Iffy the more they like and appreciate Harper.

Go outside….or for you guys in the west freezing this morning bake a cake.

    “Adult conversation” eh!!

I guess that makes all us “Real Canadians” as irresponsible teenagers.

Do these fools even listen to themselves? Only a half wit imbecile like the type you’ll find in abundance over at Glibblogs would buy into such ridiculousness.

  8. MaryT says:

I have to wonder if all the insane comments the trolls have left on various blogs have educated non political readers on how much better our PM and his caucus and his supporters are. Do they ever think of the impression they leave tells us the mindset of liberal supporters. What will they do when we get our majority and they have at least 4 years to watch the country progress.
Medical emergencies can really keep one out of the loop. We had one Tuesday night. But they can make us appreciate our health care system also. Son had a heart attack (not overweight, obese, but a smoker) and rushed to hospital, sent to a larger city, then sent to Calgary and by 5.00p.m. yesterday had all the tests and operations necessary. No waiting and is resting well.
But, the comments and new posts kept me up trying to catch up. And, in all the restaurants, hallways, waiting areas we were in during this time, people are ridiculing Iffy. People are talking and paying attention. Hurrah for our side.

Oh,and if you have a negative impression of Me, Me, Me it is because of the evil Conservzatives “framing” Me, Me, Me so once I remove that big old ugly frame you will LOVE Me, ME, Me.

Do you think once we see more of this pugnacious blowhard egotistical lip licking vacuous girly man our impression will get better? Sheeesh.

  15. Swift says:

“…no plans to raise taxes.” If Micheal had not been gone and missed it, he might know that this statement would be met with some disbelief especially in Ontario.

The Ekos poll results are interesting. They show a strong Conservative lead in Vancouver. This is very good news for the coming by-election. We are well ahead in the Liberal stronghold of Toronto. Yes you read that correctly, we are ahead in TO. The most encouraging thing though, is that the Bloc support is under 40%. This may not result in too many lost seats as the Libs and Tories are in a tie. But the drop is a good sign that Quebec may be backing away from the seperatists.

  16. maz2 says:

Is there a rumbly in Iffy’s tummy? Wabbit wants to know.

Iffy you go down in the woods today, you are sure to find another analysis:

Iffy Liberals may be suffering from a political bipolar disorder.

Symptoms as noted by experts include:

    “Impulsive and potentially reckless behaviour”,

“Feelings of euphoria, extreme optimism, exaggerated self-esteem”; and,

    >>> “Rapid speech, racing thoughts”*.

There is a consensus, even amongst libloggers, to wit,

“… what does it say about the state of our political system when party leaders have to deny reports that they’re going to treat the voters like adults?”

CGrit broadens the case to: “party leaders”; CGrit is in denial as only Iffy and his Liberals have imploded.

How stupid do they think we are????

Is it wrong to tell us about the Home Reno Tax credit, to alert us to the Action Plan and the website and how we can take advantage, to lift up the consumer confidence that good things are happening, to recruit for the military, to intercede for Elder Abuse, to promote the Canadian mint’s olympic coins, to any government communications of how our own money is being spent?

Contrary to the PM is Ignatieffs constant outpouring of negatives, pushing for an election when Canadians clearly do not want one, doing nothing in regards to Liberal senators inaction, the negativity in Quebec, add on the flip flopping and you have a man,and a party, that Canadians do not want any part of.

    …-

    “Athena’s Surprising Portfolio

    By Charlotte Allen”

    [...]

“The story of Athena’s birth is an allegory of the birth of wisdom: springing from the head, seat of the mind, after being nurtured by thought.

Through Athena/Minerva the Greeks and Romans personified wisdom as a female figure in contrast to their male gods of war (Ares/Mars) and the literary and musical arts (Apollo).

By imagining wisdom as a woman, they seemed to recognize that the acquisition of wisdom entails the reflection and calm associated with women, in contrast to the agonistic aggression that characterizes the male psyche.

The history of Athena’s cult, in which she was worshipped as a goddess of wartime strategy and the practical arts as well as of intellectual brilliance, might be viewed as another kind of allegory of wisdom: that wisdom is not just an ivory-tower phenomenon but the collective insights of a culture deeply committed to the life-and-death project of defending itself and producing the artifacts that make up its own civilized life.”

“Bank of Canada Poll Shows Record Sales Optimism, Credit Easing

Canadian businesses reported record optimism about their future sales and said credit conditions were easing for the first time since 2007, according to a survey by the central bank.

Sixty-nine percent of executives said sales growth will quicken over the next year, while another 16 percent expect it to slow, the Bank of Canada said today in a quarterly Business Outlook Survey. The gap is the biggest since the question was first asked in 1998.

“Responses to the autumn survey suggests that the Canadian economy is recovering, as all indicators of business activity have increased,” today’s survey said.

The report is another sign Canada is emerging from its first recession since 1992, coming the same day that Statistics Canada said employers added 30,600 jobs in September. The central bank’s senior deputy governor said yesterday that Canada’s recovery may be slowed by a strong currency.”

This reverses the pattern observed most of the past year as employers cut back by first reducing full-time workers to part-time status.

“This is the sound an economy makes when an economy recovers,” said Douglas Porter, deputy chief economist at BMO Capital Markets.
