Iffy hasn’t quite pulled off the image of the smoldering bodice-ripper in politics (H/T Maz2):
“He is so palpably uncomfortable in this role and I think that’s the source of the turnoff,” she [Patricia Pearson] said. “Did you see that political commercial of him standing in a meadow or something bucolic? It just made me laugh so hard. He looks like he has heartburn.”
As yet another Liberal leader disappears down the memory hole.

Personal note: I am on ‘Grandma duty’ again today so comments may have to sit for a while. Sandy has graciously agreed to check in once in a while as time allows and approve any in the queue. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
BTW, don’t miss Margaret Wente’s brilliant column as she puts herself in the mind of Michael Ignatieff. (I know. Scary thought.)

I know what Bec is going to say…;).And I will say it too!
(Bec is probably still high from the w/e…a natural high that is!)
Prime Minister Harper has the looks, charm, intellect, and sex appeal.A fine dad and husband. He’s a Real Man!
A Real Man accepts responsibility, shuns passivity, leads courageously, and looks to the greater reward.
Iggy?….shudder…
Odd….cbc hasn’t said one word about the latest poll numbers! Not a whisper, either on the National last eve..I’ve had tv on for almost 2 hrs this am,switching back/forth between cbc/ctv..nada/zip/zero! We PAY for this non-coverage? CTV has been all over this today, with Fife on already..cbc more interested in covering that old letch Letterman!
that bimbo Heather Hiscox has had Margo McDermid on (the so-called political reporter)..not a word discussed re the polls, all they ‘gossiped’ about was the gun-registry!WAKE UP cbc..these poll numbers are important,as is the rumor that lib mp’s looking into crossing the floor.
cbc has NO credibility so why are we paying to keep it alive?
It’s over, Iffy. C’est la vie.
*”And, reported the ruefrontenac.com web site of le Journal de Montréal’s locked-out journalists, Ignatieff’s staff tried, apparently unsuccessfully, to have a spy infiltrate the Thursday taping.”

Go back to Harvard, Iffy.
You do have a Green card, Iffy?

What did they think was going to happen? Iffy stands for nothing because the liberals stand for nothing. The liberals truly believe they should be running the country just because their liberals. They had nothing from the get-go. It is pretty sad that the liberals look at our government as no more than a beauty contest. To hype up Iggy, who is butt-homily, as their candidate, to bring home the trophy is just plain stupid. He gives most females the willies, he has that I’madinnerjacket insane look to him. Canadians know that Iggy don’t like us much, and for that we are going to kick him in the balls before we send him packing back to the states.

Obama eligibility case survives 1st court test
Judge hears arguments, refuses immediate dismissal demand

A federal judge in California today listened to government lawyers argue that a lawsuit over President Obama’s eligibility should be immediately dismissed but refused to grant their request, saying he would make his decision and announce it later. ……….
……..
They are suing Obama alleging he is not eligible to be president under the U.S. Constitution’s requirement for a “natural born” citizen in the Oval Office. Forty-six of the plaintiffs are represented by Taitz, who has worked on a multitude of lawsuits over Obama’s eligibility, and two – Drake and Robinson – are represented by Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation.
Iffy keeps complaining that the PM hasn’t done this, that, or something else, but as an MP or leader of the opposition what has he done. Has he introduced a Private Members bill, co-sponsored a bill, no. But, he has finally had the liberal constitution read to him re Quebec. How long has he been an MP, about 5 years-what has he done. (throwing liberals and others under the bus don’t count)
Sammy, CBC are not going to cover this poll because it is a CTV-sponsored poll. They will only talk about the polls they sponsor, which I think is EKOS.
Watching wee Bobby Fife on CTV trying to explain Iggy’s pathetic showing is
uplifting to say the least.
He looks like someone just stole his ‘binky blanket’.
While CBC may not have been trumpeting the poll numbers, it was extremely amusing to watch their political panel the other night, quite unified in their opinion that Ignatieff is in a massive hole which he is unlikely to climb out of.
I thought Peter Mansbridge was going to have a stroke.
Sammy says:

I hear you Sammy, but let’s face it, the NATIONAL MEDIA are STRICTLY for the LPOC- so you have to listen to David Rutherford, Adler Lowell Green write to them explain your frustration and ask them to do the job for you denied by the MSM.
Sammy, there are no other national media but what you see so, they feel it is their right to tell you what ‘THEY’ want you to know see and hear. It is called ‘MANIPULATION’ . In fact they are so good manipulating the public and are successful in doing. Some canadians when asked still have no clue who is the PM; either know of him nor hear him speak; some still think Chretien is still in government and that it was this prime minister stephen harper who first sent our troops into Afghanistan.
You can’t blame those canadians who are simple brain-washed-poor souls, all they want is to listen to up to date news but are drilled daily on the same subject. the very same format Dictators use on their people but in this case, it is the NATIONAL MEDIA that is doing it.
And since there are no other media to contradict or rephrase redo the work; they national media feel free to do as they please.
Just like in the states, CNN NBC are not talking nor revealing any thing about OBAMA so guess who has to their job -’GLENN BECK O’REILLY ETC.’
Peanut Gallery here — Just to let my fellow bloggers know that I will be out for a couple of hours. Will approve comments when I get back.
In the meantime, if anyone sees a link to a source I don’t have on my “tracking” post, let me know here or at COTM.
Thanks.
Just read the Wente column and have to wonder how blind the libs are by not telling iffy that trying to be the second coming of PET would not sell in the west. Justin better get that message before he tries to run the country.
Re IRuby crossing the floor, I am not impressed with that thought. Could it be her private members bill being rejected by her caucus.
I would put conditions on that idea, you do not run in the next election.
I was a tiny kid when Trudeau first got elected. But as a woman I don’t see how anyone thought that little twerp was sexy. Why women chose Chretien in vast numbers is beyond me as well. Sometimes the things women tend to do don’t make me very proud.
Jen re Fox and Glenn Beck. I heard a piece on a Bellingham, WA radio station about when Beck went to Safeco field for that big “Glenn Beck Day”. A reporter from the station got an interview with him (one of the few that did). He gave her a big hug and she could feel that he was wearing a bullet-proof vest. And we have people over at Jack’s Newswatch saying Beck is gonna get somebody killed with his investigating (meaning someone might take a pot shot at Obama). Well, I think it’s Glenn Beck who has more to worry about. The more dirt he uncovers, the more danger he will be in. He’s making a lot on the left very very nervous.
The Torch makes an important point here about priorities.
“A week on and the Liberal Party of Canada still does not have a national defence critic in Parliament (Oct. 5, 1000). You’d a thunk the major media might have noticed.” No, they’re too busy fussing about who the next Quebec Lieutenant will be.
Could we please stop with lumping all journalists in the same boat!!!
Jen, not all National media is strictly LPOC and we know it. After the few weeks we’ve had a the shift that’s happening even among those more biased media types we really need to helping those who still want to flog a dead horse(Iggy) smarten up or get left behind the rest of Canadians.
Why are we still feeding on a steady diet of Michael Ignatieff.
The guy’s good as gone.
How about we talk about the surprise appearance by the PM on CFRB this morning and how much more he grows on people the more they see of him and know of what makes him stand hands above The Waffle, Puffin, Count, Iffy in the sex-appeal department.
Anyway, wasn’t the story about MacLean’s dubbing Ignatieff the “sexiest cerebral man” proven a false claim?
It was tough getting on here to comment or even read the comments by the way.
O/T …
I hope the rumours about some Liberals crossing the floor to the Conservative side are not true, especially since the names mentioned are those of Ruby Dhalla and Judy Sgro.
I would rather the Conservatives increase their seat count the regular way – say, like winning a couple of those by-elections scheduled for November – rather than accepting damaged goods.
After all the criticism levelled at both those Liberal MPs on some conservative blogs, it would be pretty difficult to now have to defend them. That’s why I prefer to criticize parties and their policies – or lack thereof – but I try to refrain from getting too personal when criticizing individual members of the opposition, not only because none of us human beings is perfect, but also because we never know what the future holds. Furthermore, it really pisses me off when personal attacks are levelled at one of my “guys” – especially the “big guy” – so why would I want to imitate that kind of behaviour?
I hope what the future holds for the CPC is a majority, but without floor crossers.
P.S. I try to refrain from getting too personal … but I’m not always successful.
Mea culpa.
Rutherford asking, would you take IRuby if she crossed the floor. Most callers say NO WAY, she is arragant, rude, etc.
PMSH, please say NO, sit as an independant. And someone suggested it could be a liberal idea, probably so they could blame the PM for stealing libs.
Missed who he said were the other two women trying to get off the sinking ship of Iffy.
Boy, does Margaret Wente pull out all of the stops and nail this one. Coming from her I am paying attention.
Then there is the Michael Valpy piece, yes THAT Michael Valpy who clearly picks up on many things that we have all discussed.
This trend is fascinating and for me, validates the 6th sense that Iffy’s demeanor, words etc were dislodging among most of us as we got to know him.
It wasn’t working and those things that weren’t working, cannot be fixed by him imo. They are body language issues and verbal language issues, all things that are permanently ingrained in this man.
bluetech @ 7:24
Ha….yes the ‘glow’ is still active and feels so refreshing!
You know guys, Gabby and Richco have a point. We should be concentrating on the positive. Take a look a the long list on my site re the NAC event. Most of the MSM were very complimentary.
Let’s let the Liberals and Iggy self-destruct. Which brings me to the point I have noticed as I am approving comments. I would really recommend stopping the personal belittling types of attacks. I know, we all do it from time to time. They’re not defamation but they are definitely tacky.
In the meantime, let’s focus on what the PM is doing.
For example, that interview Richco mentioned. Along that line, I noticed yesterday AM was that the PM was on Rutherford first off the bat. It was a great interview. I can’t remember who it was here on the other thread, who mentioned it. Thanks for the tip whoever it was!
Our PM is definitely at the top of his game!
If IRuby wants to cross the floor she should go straight to the NDP. They may even support her bill. Why would the CPC want her when she proposes a bill too over the top for the Liberals?
Do you get the feeling that we have had too many politicians who ride in on their father’s coattails?
Ignatieff’s only ticket to anything was that his Dad was a high ranking United Nations guy – so doors opened even at a young age. He still thinbks name dropping is his ticket to adulation. Without his Dad would this shallow persona have been given opportunities above really talented people.
Jack Layton – born with a silver spoon. Ditto – Bob Rae. Ditto – Justin Trudeau. Gilles Duceppe. Peter MacKay. Belinda, Paul Martin and even Chretien – from influential wealthy families ….the list is very long.
Then along comes Stephen Harper who broke the mold. He is a self made man and the coattails of HIS father were work hard, play by the rules and some darn good values.
Any doors opened for him were from hard work and talent and we have seen tenacity.
Just struck me and actually impressed me more about our PM. ..a self made man and a self taught piano player.

Just heard that Iggy has reshuffled is shadow cabinet and has named Ujall Dosanhj to be defence critic. Plus Jr Trudeau has been named critic for youth. Ruby Dhalla has been dumped, rumour has it that she is one of the Libs thinking of crossing the floor to the Conservatives. Who would a thunk it.
If you are having trouble accessing this site or leaving comments, the good news is it has nothing to do with the theme/template. The bad news is it is the server, which in this case is BlueHost. Will have to let Cynapse know.
Thanks for everyone’s patience. As I have mentioned before, the strange thing is BLY is on the same server space as COTM and JN. But, and this is a big but, it is in a different box on the database — exactly what that means I am not sure. Cynapse has said if he asks them to change boxes, we could end up with different problems. But, if it gets bad enough, obviously something will need to be done.
In my experience, it is around noon to 3pm every day that I too notice the problems.
Regarding MP’s crossing the floor has is the present rumour going around, I would be in favour of the NDP private memebers bill to prevent MP’s from flooring crossing: If a MP quits a particular party, he/she can do one of two things, sit as an independent until the next election or resign his/her seat and then run in a bi-election for his or hers new party. This gives the constituents a chance to decide what type of representation they wan.

Check this out from InternetMemory:
“Liberal Party National Director Greg Fergus sends his first email, minus any references to Stephane Dion
The National Director of the Liberal Party, Greg Fergus, has sent his first email since taking over the job from Jamie Carroll. The letter is interesting for more about what it doesn’t say. Not a word about Stephane Dion anywhere in an email whose purpose seems to be to inspire Liberals.
Isn’t Stephane Dion inspiring?
Worse yet, Greg Fergus makes pains to remind the reader that the Liberal Party is about more than any one man. Curious.”

Yes, I agree the media has been exceptional with the exception of the faux ‘C’ Olympic scandal in the last while and I regularly make a point of complimenting them, when applicable.
Just watching QP and the PM is brilliant as usual and I personally would NOT want him accepting any of the names mentioned as floor crossers’.
There are a few however, I would gladly consider although in general, I am not a fan of the floor crossing process either.
In fairness to some of the criticisms re comments today, the topic is about Ignatieff not the PM.
Accept a Liberal into government…are they nuts?. I mean they’re Liberals, the experts of manufactured scandals. The CPC would have to install a metal detector and frisk the new additions at every meeting to prevent recording devices.
Fear Greeks bearing gifts.

Ooops
OT, but the NNW has the story re the phony passport photo lady. The case is already in court. Why the haste. 3 Liberals demanded the govt apologize and settle. Is that because they are afraid if this goes on it will maybe prove things are not what they seem.
Adler asking what did the head hunters see in iffy that he can’t see. The truth is probably they planned the coup and thought they could install him as PM before his real colors come out. Best laid plans etc.
And perhaps him losing the female voter is that family values are not liberal values, and we don’t like men that throw their wives under the bus.

“A true leader praises his country … Three cheers for PM Harper
PM Stephen Harper capped his visit to the USA by lauding Canada’s economic smarts to a friendly business audience in Manhattan. He is so proud of his country and his countrymen, just like a true leader should be. What a difference between Obama and our PM !!
….”Despite the turbulence of recent months, Canadian banks are secure, our markets are expanding, our stimulus is working, our taxes are falling, our long-term fiscal position is solid,” Harper said in prepared remarks to the Canadian-American Business Council in New York.
“If we stay the course, Canada’s future has never looked so bright.”
Some in the U.S., where Canada has a reputation for understatement, might have been taken aback to hear Canada trumpeting its own triumphs – a fact not lost on the prime minister.
“Historically, we Canadians have been known as a polite, quiet and self-effacing people,” he said.
“But in my view – as you may have noticed – this is no time to hide our light under a bushel. A few months ago, The Economist magazine carried a headline calling Canada, quote, ‘A country that got things right.”
At the risk of sounding like Seinfeld mom, I will say: “What’s not to like about our PM Stephen Harper?”"

the bottom line is that Harper is by far the better leader.
The Liberal back room boys goofed big time and should be dumped by the party ground support sooner rather than later so that the Liberal folks out there like you and I can get the party they define themselves.
It’s everyone’s right to align themselves to which ever party flips their switch.
Harper rocks federally. Provincially in Ontario……I’m a disappointed Conservative at the moment who thinks that Andrea Horvath (new NDP leader) should seriously consider a run a Layton.
The PCs still don’t have that spark and energy they once had.

Just watching PP,and some politics on cbc,boy oh boy,the Libs are ‘spinning’ like tops! Goodale, always a hoot,is digging like a prairie gopher, the Lib strategist on PP,hasn’t answered a question yet re the drop in polls..Tom Clark actually spoke about how the media are getting calls from lib mp’s in the Rae camp, that aren’t happy with Iggy.
As for the floor-crossers..my opinion KEEP THEM OUT of my party! the ones rumored to be thinking of crossing are a huge headache, and I don’t think their arses in our seats are worth it.All I think of is Garth Turner, and my stomach churns.
BTW,all you ladies here need to go to SDA,and post WHY you dislike Iggy..what the ‘turn-off’ is.
If there was ANY doubt about libs being ‘dividers’ watch the interview with lib senator Celine Hervieux (sp) Payette on PP! To my ‘redneck’ Alberta/Western sisters, according to this loon, you are a backward bunch of child-spankers! Quebecers are just WAY more progressive.Tom Clark called her on it..said she wasn’t going to win any points for libs in Alta..to which she scoffed and said,’we have support in Alberta???’ Way to go you loon!
For anyone who’s interested, pix of Saturday’s performance, including one of his wife, are posted here on the PM’s web page.
Just read a story at NNW that Belinda is planning a return to politics. Doesn’t say which party, but probably liberal.
Maybe she sees herself as the next leader of the party.
Hi folks. Back home again. Thanks so much to Sandy for handling comment moderation here. I really do appreciate it and I would hope that readers and commenters would respect the difficult situation she is in having to decide whether a comment goes over the top or not.
Sandy is doing this out of the goodness of her heart. Otherwise this blog would be very quiet right now.

I think most of the comments on here are fairly reasonable . I’m not going to stop criticising liberals . Everybody on this blog knows what Stephen Harper has done . Turning into a kool-aid drinking Harper worshipping cult isn’t going to help the conservative party . Usually though if the comment I’m going to make is a bit more off-color I do it elsewhere .
The thing is being mr or mrs. namby -pamby nice person isn’t going to defeat the liberals . Not at this time , going by who’s in the party and doing their strategy . One more thing . Have you seen who their new critics are ?
Not ne of them is known for honesty and being miss congeniality . The stinky , sticky brown stuff is about to fly .
Hey Cantuc. Thanks for holding back.

I hate to do any disservice to the late, wacky great lead-singer of The Doors, Jim Morrison, but in Mikhail Igneutiev we do have a new LIZARD KING in appearance at least. He may stage his Raptor Rap at some Liebral fundraiser to try to keep the party afloat, unless he gets tossed another Coalition of Stooges lifeline. Either way, the Igneutered One is assured of “bringing down the House”, but not the way he’d prefer. The LPC’s fortunes are heading south as rapidly as a freight-train of Confederate soldiers, and any leader attributes of attraction are definitely on the back-burner. Harper Positives combined with Ignoble Negatives are widening the popularity gap further with time. I think the IGWANA BE PRIME MINISTER is incompatible even with other lizards.
A very interesting critic.

Don’t know if it is mentioned elsewhere in this blog, though Susan Delacourt’s “axial spin on a dime”…with change to spare is an interesting read over at NNW.
Oops…I should have noted that it is with regards to the alleged LPC floor crossings being a fabrication of the CPC…Hah highly unlikely!
Good old Steve Janke has more over at Angry In The Great White North.
A few posts back I mentioned that as Conservatives and conservatives I do hope for some good strong changes to come in the area of the HRC, gun control, and criminal justice.(others?) If I may cantuc I’d like to interpret what you are saying: while we are on cloud nine enjoying all the good stuff, the Liberal party is still wanting to get power so watch out for them to get really nasty. I agree. No doubt they are brewing something now.
However, let’s enjoy this now! CPC up in the polls!!…it has been a long steady uphill climb to get to this point…a place where the ROC is not still being duped by the Libs, and media spin.
