Some readers may wonder why I rage against David Miller. After all, I no longer live there. (Whew!)
However stupidity seems to be radiating outwards from Toronto, so I feel it necessary to try to repel the encroachment. For example, witness David Miller’s charge-a-bag program that seemed to be all the grocery industry needed to jump on the bandwagon in the rest of Ontario. It’s probably only a matter of time before all retail stores follow suit.
Christina Blizzard focuses on the LCBO’s decision to dump the plastic made-in-Canada bag, and sell China-sourced reusable bags instead. And of course the plastic kitchen bags you’re now forced to buy are much less biodegradable than those grocery bags they were giving away. But if you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know that we’ve already been through all that before. And don’t forget that those reusable bags can make you sick.
Then there’s the pesticide ban that started in Toronto and then morphed into a generalized McGuinty ban. The public parks are an eye-sore now. People are giving up on their lawns. But the greenies are happy.
Sue-Ann Levy notes that His Blondness is now starting to turn into His Grayness. But it’s doubtful that even the wisdom of age will save Toronto from David Miller.
Karen Stintz recently said that Toronto needs to get back to the basics of providing affordable services, and forget the nanny-state tactics (my words) such as ‘imposing fees for plastic bags when we have no legal ability to do so.”
Please Toronto, vote David Miller out next election.
And let some common sense radiate outwards – to Queen’s Park.

Sorry but I can’t agree. We won’t get rid of the rot until Toronto goes into default and McGuinty has no money to bail Toronto out. Harper and Baird have to stay the course.
We won’t get rid of the rot until Toronto goes into default and McGuinty has no money to bail Toronto out.
Too many votes in Toronto. McGuinty would throw the rest of us under the bus before he’d give up on Toronto.
But that would ensure that Hudak wins. Let the end game play out. The immigrants in the last 10 years came here to build a better life. Let them have their day and boot the refugees out. Believe me the Poles ,Russians, Serbs and others will look after the Tamils,Somalis and other Muslims.
I hate to sound cynical, but the older I get, the more I see, the more I feel that most people are either stupid, or too lazy to care. We let various ill informed malicious special interest groups control civic governments because nobody votes. (Malicious includes public service unions). Toronto is simply the worst of the worst, unfortunately an example that seems to be followed everywhere, in spite of the obvious poor results. I hate the sense of entitlement that so many people I interact with every day seem to have. Free day care, free drugs, free tuition, free whatever suits their short term needs. I think the 60’s and 70’s are probably the world’s worst generation, and it’s not getting any better.
Given the mess both McGuinty and Miller have made in their respective roles, how can either of them have the nerve to even run for Office again?
IF they do and IF they get re-elected, we better be very concerned.
Mayor Miller pumps hundreds of millions into all kinds of ’social services’, which allows many thousands of people who think exactly like he does to quietly campaign for him on a full-time basis, they don’t need to mention him by name or anything, all they have to do is create stories of ’social injustice’ to constantly feed media. He’s their man.
I’ve come to believe that in regards to socialist/left-wing governments at the municipal, provincial (and hopefully never) federal level, the best cure for such is a massive overdose. Only then, do people finally wake up. And only when people are truly sick of such (eg. Bob Rae and the NDP in Ontario) does the impetus for change finally come. If not cure, hopefully this will at least vaccinate Toronto from the likes of Miller and general left wing idiocy for a long time to come.
Michael, very well said.
The pendulum has been swinging far left. There isn’t much more room. Time for some balance very soon, I hope.
Toronto is a good example of what happens when the left rules. If the people of Toronto and Ontario as a whole are unable to see the detrimental effects of the nanny state, then there must be something in the water. And I want to escape to Ontario.
Yup, I’ve given up on my lawn. I keep it mowed; that’s it. Hoping to convert most of it to all perennials within a year or so.
A call to TO, not from O’hOpeless, but, to the hapless TO; the TO of perversion, garbage, graffiti, and greed, aka avarice.
“The call to Toronto is to say ‘dream a little. You can do this,’ ” he said in a recent interview.”
Notice the year “2015″, aka the future.
It’s the siren call of socialism: hope for the future; dreams/visions which become nightmares; Hell on Earth.
The present in TO, today, is sordid and sick; but, we shall hope for the future.
