Suggestion for Toronto residents on how to get rid of your trash

This is definitely separate post-worthy.  Via Alberta Ardvark from the previous thread:

I am not a lawyer but how could one be convicted of a crime only by the presence of a name, be it on an old piece of mail, bill etc, found in a trash bag?

If this is the case I suggest that EVERYONE put a piece of paper in their trash bags that reads
“Property of David Miller”. That should bring some entertainment to an otherwise bad situation.

Just don’t let the bylaw officer catch your licence plate number.  Of course, maybe you could cover it with one of those cloth grocery bags…

Oh, no don’t do that either.

[Disclaimer: This is meant to be a light-hearted post.  Do not; I repeat DO NOT actually try doing this. I know you Torontonians are used to being told what to do, but this is a joke. Do not follow the suggestions on this post. At some point you need to start thinking for yourselves.  And that means you too, Mr. Hall.]

…To prevent misguided citizens from breaking this edict the Triple T’s use their finely honed “rummaging” skills to root through contraband garbage, seeking clues which will lead them to the perpetrators.

A discarded banana peel, a used up toothpaste tube, an old David Miller for Mayor button – all these can be used to track down anti-social elements…

Note to Gregory Hall – The above is a joke. Not to be taken seriously. You are allowed to laugh. (Unless of course if you have a contraband plastic bag in your possession – because that is not funny.)

Thursday Update: Miller Tumbles In PollNational Post:

Mayor David Miller’s support among Toronto voters has “plummeted” to the point where a majority disapprove of his performance, and he would lose in a race against possible challenger John Tory, a new poll shows.

The dismal poll numbers, which also suggest the incumbent, two-term Mayor would lose to Deputy Premier George Smitherman, come as Mr. Miller struggles to contain the political fallout of a crippling municipal workers strike

And that’s no joke.

So has there been a run on paper shredders?

Remember when some union dumped thousands of workboots somewhere(?) in protest?
Was the union charged for illegal dumping?

How about a protest (garbage dump) at a union pick line?

  2. Lorraine says:

I see a marvelous opportunity for those unemployed auto workers to get out their trucks and start a garbage collection service.

Call it “To the Dump and Dump Miller”.

What the union workers won’t do for the big bucks and perks others can do for reasonable and fair compensation.

That’s how the real world works n’est pas?

  3. Joanne says:

“Dump Miller” would make a great campaign slogan for the next election!

  4. fernstalbert says:

Can you imagine the poor slob who has to open garbage bags and find the address of the dumpee. How many claims for work place injury will be filed when this is over?

  5. Jen says:

It’s your province and no twit in the union can dictate how you must keep your area clean.
So get out your trucks take your own trash and do what’s best for your community.
The union has Miller around their finger but not yours.
Enough of this union strike. People are looking for work. And why can’t there be a private business dealing with the trash removal etc.

  6. MaryT says:

Who cleaned up those boots. I would like to see a protest of garbage dumping on Sid Ryan’s property.
And I wonder what all those mothers on the picket line are doing with their kids, now that day cares are closed.

  7. Bruce from Cambridge says:

Leave your garbage at your local CUPE office

  8. wilson says:

And I bet you fine folks still have to pay for garbage pickup, when there is none.
I’m assuming the charge is on your utility bill.

    o/t new poll out.
Cons ahead of Libs nationally and in Ontario.
PMSHs numbers on handling the economy go up,
Iffy loses momentum and starts his downward slide.

It is truly a credit to PMSH that thru this economic crisis, the government has the cofidence of Canadians:

”…Harper remains ahead of Ignatieff on being a strong and decisive leader (43% to 28%), having a vision for Canada’s future (42% to 35%),
managing the economy effectively (32% to 22%), and being honest and trustworthy (28% to 25%). Ignatieff leads on caring about the environment (28% to 21%).
The two leaders are virtually tied on inspiring confidence, understanding the problems of Canadians, understanding complex issues, and generally agreeing with Canadians on issues they care about.

Harper managed to expand on his April numbers on the leadership and vision questions, while Ignatieff underwent a marked decline on inspiring confidence….”

Wow! That’s great Wilson. The only bad thing is that we’re not in an election. ;)

  11. Richco says:

“the only bad thing is that we’re not in an election.”

…and we would be had Ignatieff listened to the Chretienites.

PM still proves why he’s a leader…and Michael, um, isn’t.

As long as Mr Ignatieff keeps talking it’s Christmas in July, August, September…… for the PM.

Richco, May I ask who Romeo Leblance is or was?

Take a look at Hunter’s blog, maybe you can give your two cents to the trolls.

  14. Brett says:

Rome Leblanc was the Governor General, I believe before Adrian Clarkson and was appointed by Johnny Crouton. He was also a former Liberal cabinet minister under PET before being appointed to the Senate.

I noticed on the news today many of the union members picketing were drinking bottled water. I thought bottled water was considered taboo in Miller’s socialist utopia.

Speaking of Miller, remember that old WKRP episode where Johnny Fever told listeners to drop their garbage at the mayors office? Wonder if any local radio station hosts might mention something similar.

Reading the bio of Romeo LaBlanc, and his connections and knowledge of the liberal party, think of all the info his son absorbed growing up. And to think that liberals threw him over for a no nothing about politics or liberals to crown Iggy.
How many sons are in politics trying to follow their father’s lead. Paul Martin didn’t do so well, but we have Justin and LeBlanc.
    Bush didn’t do to bad.
And way off topic, but for the first time a political wife has told her husband to get out, rather than stand beside him, as he admits an affair. She told him two weeks ago to get out of the house. Cheers to her.

  20. Bec says:

Re garbage, we have our VERY OWN version of Mayor Miller, right here in Calgary. You say?
“Surely you jest, Bec.” I say in return,
    “Not a chance, Nance”

We were the victims of study after study re recycling and the geniuses (always 8 against 7, Mayor Dave, being the deciding vote) on the city council decided that it would be 8 bucks a month. Whether you like it or not.

In ONE MONTH, the bottle recyclers have recouped about 200,000.oo from our snazzy dazzy bins.
So Mayor Dave, is asked if he would reduce the monthly cost and he needs another “study”.

Our downtown parking rates are the highest in NORTH AMERICA (other than NYC) royally. 5+ dollars AN HOUR.
Would you go there to shop, DR’s, EAT etc?
The spin today is, ‘we only hold 18% of those stalls’!
    Ah duh, be competitive doldorffs!

Our latest debacle is ” PLANET CALGARY” which is all about eliminating urban sprawl. Anyone been to Hong Kong? Million dollar properties in 700 sq ft. Lovely lifestyle for an Albertan that has acres and acres of SPACE!

    Rant over! Thanks…ha

“Federal Liberals ready to fight ‘fully funded’ campaign

WINNIPEG — The federal Liberal party is out of debt and financially ready to conduct a “fully funded (election) campaign,” its national president said in Winnipeg Tuesday.

Alfred Apps said the party has raised nearly as much money in the first half of this year as it did all last year, when it took in $5.9 million.

“You can assume that we’re going to report somewhere over $5 million for the first six months (ending June 30),” Apps said in an interview following a speech to the Laurier Club of Manitoba.”

“Foundations Created by Canadian Government under Investigation

(March 7, 2005) Canadian Auditor General Sheila Fraser is scrutinizing the accountability of several foundations created by the federal government.

According to a report published by Fraser in February, the government has given $9 billion since 1997 to arms-length foundations it created to promote science, education, technology and research. Those foundations include the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, Genome Canada, Sustainable Development Technology Canada and the Millennium Scholarship Foundation.

In that report and in comments made to Parliament, Fraser expresses concerns that $7.7 billion is still sitting in the foundations’ bank accounts. She sees room for improvement in three areas regarding the foundations: ministerial oversight; reporting to Parliament and the public; and an external audit and evaluation regime. Fraser also wants to see provisions created that allow ministers to step in when circumstances change significantly or the foundations are working at cross purposes.

The Auditor General does not have access to any foundation audits as such responsibility is not in her purview. However, she has asked Parliament to obtain copies of such audits for the Office of the Auditor General to review. The government has yet to respond.”

    “Hot: A *Bermuda beach.

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff urged his caucus last week to use this break week to fan out in their ridings, talk about employment insurance changes and take the pulse of their constituents. Meanwhile, Mr. Ignatieff and his wife, Zsuszanna Zsohar , took off Monday for Bermuda. Mr. Ignatieff, who is portrayed in the recent Tory attack ads as a snob who spends little time in Canada, was spotted on the southbound plane, happily reading Dan Brown’s mystery thriller (now a major motion picture) Angels & Demons . No heavy political tome for him.

I take no credit for finding this little link, and it’s been heavily discussed already at Blue Like You. I do find it interesting that during a time when you’re fighting for your credibility as a person who is invested in Canadian affairs and politics, trying to slough off the impression that you don’t spend enough time in the country you profess to love, that you would head to Bermuda for sun and sand.”

So far he has insulted the Ukrainians, and the Koreans, our Flag, the way Quebecers speak. He has supported torture, the Iraq invasion, and Pres Bush.
Somebody did not do their homework.
I notice today that Harvard has cut another 275 positions, in addition to the cuts made earlier re professors. There might not be a job for Iggy when he loses the election.
Only the shadow knows what group will discover he insulted them in some book. And the war room never had to put up any ads about it.

Mary – which political wife do you mean? Berlusconi’s wife? I get a kick out of that guy, even though I do NOT approve of adultery. He’s quite the character.

As for Toronto – it always floors me that city’s never seem to have a plan B. Toronto should have some sort of alternate site for garbage dumping. Here we are in the midst of a flu crisis and Toronto’s garbage is piling up and creating a wonderful incubator for all sorts of diseases, not to mention a great smorgasbord for vermin and birds who will spread disease even further.

His Blondness is the most incompetent mayor Toronto has ever seen. Don’t you just love utopian-minded leftists?

I and my dog have been recycling those plastic bags for years. But I don’t think Mayor Miller quite understands how useful they are so the time has come to send him an example / sample of how useful they are. It will cost a few bucks but really I think the Mayor needs a hard (or squishy) lesson to see the value of reversing this unfortunate discrimination of a very important requirement of the canine population in our beautiful city. I’ve never known the mayor to get any point too swiftly so I urge all like-minded dog owners to send samples of your recycling efforts to him as well. Here is the address:

Mayor David Miller, Toronto City Hall, 2nd Floor, 100 Queen St. West, Toronto ON M5H 2N2

This could be a ruff lesson in democracy!

I understand that there will be a protest to take our garbage to the footsteps of city hall. I would suggest that we promote another target as well.. the steps of the union offices(halls) or wherever would effect them the most.

Raise for the council and the city workers?? two wrongs don’t make a right. I would rather fight to revoke the first raise and keep all status quo.

Hit the union halls with all your garbage!
