Maybe they’re just tired of being taken for granted?

Stephane Dion to Michael Coren :

"You see, the Catholics can be relied on to vote Liberal, always…"

OOPS!!

Angus Reid and Macleans send a wakeup call to Liberal Headquarters.

Update: Paul Wells - Here’s something for the Liberals to deny and ignore (with a link for the stats-lovers).

Not surprising, people of faith value family and community. This is why many of Canada’s ethnic communities have also started to vote Tory.

  2. Liz J says:

Wow,talk about being stuck in a time warp. This mindset probably accounts for their state of denial as well.

They still have the idea people will vote brain free Liberal as a tradition in certain sectors. What they don’t seem to realize is there is a lot more information getting to a lot more people and snake oil is a harder sell. The Liberals have lost their moral compass trying to be all things to all people. Principles and family values have sent many people to the Conservatives.

  3. Bec says:

It never made sense to me that Liberals believed the things they did and yet WERE CATHOLIC. These same things were often a big part of the rants against the RIGHT. The insults and daggers were faith based ideology and yet 4 Liberal PM’s were Catholic. Extreme hipocracy. I found this very interesting because I did not know that Catholics had traditionally supported Liberals. I wonder why?

AS for the Dion interview, he was still trying to manipulate the audience despite whether he is a nice guy or not. His intention was to use his faith to win brownie points. Seems pretty slimy to me.

  4. Squiggy says:

If french is your mother tongue and if you are catholic[I am french and catholic]there’s a big big chance that liberal red blood is in your veins. It’s a generational thing and the Liberals have always been perceived as the defenders of language and cultural issues..against “the maudits anglais ” Now that these issues are on the back burner and abortion on demand and gay marriage have become liberal battle cries ,older liberals[the ones that vote]and others who embrace traditional family values will vote Conservative….and I’m one of them.Dion is as we all know…out to lunch

  5. wilson says:

After Anne McLelland put thru legislation that the definition of marriage is between ‘one man and one women’, Martin promptly rammed thru SSM in a pact to keep Dipper support. It has been down hill for them ever since, with SSM the catalist.
What did the Liberals think was going to happen, when the vast majority of Canadians were in favor of Civil Unions? Did they think
    ‘oh, they’ll get over it?’

And same goes for Cons ramming thru any legislation that is against the silent majority will, support erodes.

  6. bob says:

I think the only wing of Christianity that is decidedly Liberal is the United Church. Their “anything goes” mantra fits right in with the Liberal dogma.

  7. sor says:

I asked Kinsella his opinion on this information and his response was telling. He dismissed Angus Reid as an unreliable pollster. Talk about shooting the messenger and not the message. Cheers.

  8. Joanne says:

He dismissed Angus Reid as an unreliable pollster.

Really? Wow. Professional pollsters don’t like to hear that!

  9. Sol says:

Right sor, don’t forget the Liberals only pay attention to the polls they can twist for their own benefit.

Let them live in lala land if they want to.

I cruised over to Kinsella’s blog a moment a go and pretty much almost barfed at his letter to the new love of his life – Obama. Sad that he’s come to that type of drivel.

  10. C.C. says:

ok, Graham Richardson seriously should be move to Question Period to replace Oliver. He’s MUCH, MUCH better of an interviewer. Very sharp and asks very good, balanced questions.

i know I’m in the wrong thread, but having watched MDL and saw Richardson thought I’d offer that.

  11. Joanne says:

ok, Graham Richardson seriously should be move to Question Period to replace Oliver.

Yes, that would be a definite improvement. At least Richardson pretends to be non-partisan.

  12. Fay says:

Agree!!! Graham Richardson in…. Craig Oliver out….

  13. paulsstuff says:

Go easy on Oliver. After all, he does have an award named after him.

Remember the Fossil Award the enviro-greenies like to hand out?

  14. Gabby in QC says:

I’m not too crazy about the idea of appealing to certain segments of the population based on their religion, but this segment of the population should definitely be courted:

«Young Montrealer meets Harper, finds him not ‘robotic’
    Canwest News Service
    Monday, November 24, 2008

Prime Minister Stephen Harper spent the weekend meeting world leaders, including U.S. President George W. Bush, but left one important meeting until the very end: A 40-minute meeting with 19-year-old Sophie Roy of Montreal and half a dozen other young Canadians.

Roy, a McGill University student, was part of a “Junior Team Canada” that travelled here for the annual leaders summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation forum. Roy and others spent part of their time here pitching Canada to foreign business executives.

Roy said her team developed three good business leads, which were passed on to officials with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
Roy said her meeting with Harper was an informal one. He asked about the personal backgrounds of the Junior Team Canada members.

“He’s a real genuine person,” said Roy. “A lot of people think he’s robotic but he’s really quite genuine.”

For her part, Roy asked Harper to consider implementing a youth program when Canada hosts G8 leaders in Huntsville, Ont. in 2010.»

Ah yes the great protestant (Conservative) catholic (Liberal) rivalry. Even out on the prairies late ’50s early ’60s we couldn’t really trust our next door neighbour because they cheered for the Habs and not the Leafs. They went to a different school and they voted the way the priest told them to vote, Liberal of course. The first time I heard about it was when I was about 5.

  16. NeilD says:

I liked Richardson today too. He actually gave short shrift to both Goodale and McCallum when they accused the Harper government of deceit and he just waved them off.
Maybe the media is getting it after all.

This is so lovely. Would this new trend have something to do with Dalton McGuinty lashing out at the Pope not so long ago???

No that could not be, Dalton would never have pissed off his fellow parishiones and all Catholics living in Ontario or would he??

Joanne or anyone who believe, when you have time view this tape
