With all three Liberal leadership candidates distancing themselves in varying degrees from Dion’s Green Shift plan, and Bob Rae even making references to ‘cod liver oil’, I wonder how Jennifer Wright’s feeling these days?
Is her company’s name now tainted forevermore, thanks to Stephane Dion?

More dead wood.

Ignatieff, Rae and Leblanc are occupying the back benches, they don’t have any critics post. Judging by his appearances in the media, it appears as though Ignatieff is the spokesperson for the Liberals. Or, the media has picked him as their chosen one to groom for greatness.
Dion is a lame duck but he is the leader of the lame duck party which his Green Shift pipe dream made lamer, he still should be speaking for the party.
Of course, it’s a no-brainer to dump the Green Shift, a tax like no other designed to bring the country to it’s knees in already difficult times. The environment is not top of mind when keeping the economy afloat.
It’s amazing how bloody expert in all things professor Iggy has become. The man is an embryo politician, hasn’t spent much of his life in Canada, doesn’t have a degree in economics or financial management but knows all the answers for this uncertain GLOBAL downturn. His arrogance and colossal nerve knows no bounds. He had the nerve to say on MDL the Conservatives have squandered the surplus. Of course we know the Liberals considered it their own to buy votes, never mind they got it from overtaxing us. The Harper Conservatives gave us back some of our own money, they’re the bad guys.
…The Harper Conservatives gave us back some of our own money, they’re the bad guys.
Besides putting some of the surplus towards paying off the debt. Hardly a wasteful measure.
All good points, Liz.
Liz J…. Thanks for being the first one. lol
I was thinking that I was the only one completely disgusted with what was said on MDL.
One has to wonder, if they were in power, what would we be hearing? Boo Hoo, sorry Canadians, the Conservatives spent it all…blah blah blah.
My husband and I had our first tax refund (small but..)last year. I remember in the mid to late 90’s writing a cheque every year.( over and above our tax return)Yes, the Liberals had a surplus but on the backs of Canadians and the Provinces. Same as the CARBON TAX!
Good news though, Premier Stelmach, has reduced the royalty increases for the oil companies to try help stimulate investment. (BTW, that is on the backs of Albertans but I’m all for it)
I found The Nano’s poll intriquing (MDL also). Question, why would CONS go LIB in Western Canada, for the reasons stated? No sense!
It is unbelievable that in this day and age a high profile political party can just STEAL a name from a legitimate company, then be threatened to get sued, settle and pay them off, then discard the name just six months after like it was yesterday’s garbage, leaving the original owner to lick her wounds. And nobody on the left finds this offensive? It’s disgraceful.
I don’t think Iggy is off the hook quite yet when it comes to carbon taxes. Tim Powers has already referred to him as the “father” of the carbon tax. There are surely some video clips from the 2006 debates of Iggy waxing eloquent on how great a carbon tax is.
Of course the media has now conveniently forgotten Iggy’s past love affair with the carbon tax. Just like they have largely forgotten how the Liberal election platform called for $3 billion of government spending reductions in the first year. MacCallum was saying during the campaign how “easy” it would be to find these cuts in a $200 billion budget.
Yesterday, Duffy asked Iggy about how the Throne Speech mentioned the gov’t would “ask the Opposition to join us in the expenditure review process”. To which Iggy replied “make us wear the cuts ? … no way”.
But I’m sure Harper will gently press Dion in Question Period to co-operate with him, and show where exactly the Liberal Platform found the cuts, that can now be made.

Perhaps its time for good ol Nick Nanos to go out and get a REAL job! I can’t believe we’re being shovelled more meaningless ‘poll-speak’ even before the first full day the House sits. Gag me!
… oh, and if Ignatieff is the Liberal leader to come, then get ready for an even higher level of arrogance and ’self-entitlement’ than we have experienced in recent memory. Now there’s a scary thought.
“Yesterday, Duffy asked Iggy about how the Throne Speech mentioned the gov’t would “ask the Opposition to join us in the expenditure review process”. To which Iggy replied “make us wear the cuts ? … no way”.”
The first miscalculation would be how much “Main Street” Canadians would NOW be getting back from their “green shift” refunds. The price of gas dropped and all of their programs were based on the higher prices.
Whoops, promise broken….LIAR!
Take a look at Bob Rae’s pained expression in having to sit beside his arch-enemy. I wonder who decided to have them share a seat.

Perhaps they haven’t been assigned any shadow cabinet position because of their leadership activities.
As Liz said, Conservatives should always counter the “you squandered the 13B surplus” accusation with a reminder that (a) it was overtaxation (b) it would have been “squandered” to pay for pipedreams like the Kelowna Accord, the national childcare plan, the implementation of Kyoto by buying foreign carbon credits and bringing in a carbon tax, among other measures. Or did the Liberals intend to raise taxes in order to pay for all those AND keep the 13B as a comfy cushion for a rainy day?

Good point, Gabby. Martin was announcing cash handouts like crazy at the end of 2005, just before the government fell.
You’re right. They can’t have it both ways.
When I saw Nik Nanos and his polls yesterday I thought” Who cares”. His record of accuracy is gone after this last election and why are they wasting money on polls when CTV is cutting jobs?
“Good news though, Premier Stelmach, has reduced the royalty increases for the oil companies to try help stimulate investment. (BTW, that is on the backs of Albertans but I’m all for it)”
The Royalty Review and the cash it was supposed to generate was done on the backs of Albertans, as they were the ones who would lose their jobs when the economics of drilling were calculated with the RR factored in. Stelmach tried to grab too much, while making big promises and committments to government employees. The taxpayer got hosed both ways.
Andrew Coyne has a good article in MacLeans that speaks to the ways in which politics can be done better in Canada. I read it quickly last night, but one thing he touches on are the useless polls.
As soon as MDL had Nanos on last night – I changed the channel.
You can expect the usual suspects to use Nanos to their advantage….cue Kinsella.
In these tough economic times, it would be helpful if the Libs repaid the money they STOLE from the taxpayers.
The Libs think the Conservatives squandered the surplus – at least they didn’t freak’n STEAL it!
As for Jack Layton, I’m waiting to hear you offer to take a pay cut to help out the poor working families sitting around that kitchen table you keep yakking about.
As for Gilles Duseppe – you don’t deserve to say anything because you don’t represent this country. All you do is complain and want to split apart the country, all the while wanting more money.
Speaking of Duceppe, the mere fact he’s allowed to sit in the Parliament of the Country he wishes to separate from is more than too much. That’s one loophole that needs plugging.
During elections he has plenty of time to weasel around Quebec telling lies and fear mongering while all other Parties have to campaign in all the Provinces.
He gets support from the people of Quebec in sufficient numbers to keep them in the HOC so who’s to blame?
Another galling fact is Quebec still gets the Lion share in equalization even though it’s a resource rich province. Somethings just don’t add up.
A bit off topic but the committees have been “restructured” to reflect the election results. Interesting to say the least.

caught Jack Layton’s speech in the leg. just now. I do believe someone should remind him that the election is now over. It’s deja-vu all over again as far as he’s concerned. All the platitudes about being more cooperative to get things done in the days after the election are worth much where Jack’s concerned-that’s for darn sure.
And thanks for reminding us Barbara about the money the Liberals still owe Canadians because of Adscam.
I also just now couldn’t help but notice that Scott Brison has already put the Liberal promise to Canadians about civility in the house when Brison called Jim Flaherty Canada’s Deficit Daddy. Flaherty shot back at him but, cripes, where’s Milliken?? Stop it now Peter because I sure will not be tuning in to more of the same garbage for very long.
What is the gov’t supposed to do…sit there and not defend their policies while it’s ok for the others to be insulting?
Brison called Jim Flaherty Canada’s Deficit Daddy.
I missed that, Sol. Disgusting. I knew Milliken was a lame duck Speaker. He hasn’t got the backbone. He can’t change.
BTW, thanks for that link, Teddi. Interesting for sure.
Anyone expecting civility from Scott Brison is dreaming, he’s a bit of a smart ass.I think he’s playing out his anger, really ruing the day he left the Conservative Party.
QP today was as pathetic as before the election. The Liberals are all criticizing the Throne speech and grasping at straws on everything else. The funny thing is they will support the Budget and everything else the Bloc and Dippers do not, they’re in no position to bring down the government.
Milliken won’t change one iota, why would he? He’s probably on his last run and couldn’t care less.
Today’s QP proceedings looked awfully familiar.
I also just now couldn’t help but notice that Scott Brison has already put the Liberal promise to Canadians about civility in the house when Brison called Jim Flaherty Canada’s Deficit Daddy.
Brison destroyed his political leadership future, when some bright Liberals decided the ex-PC leadership candidate-turned-Liberal would be spokesperson in QP for Adscam denial. No wonder he’s the designated attack dog on civility.
They screwed him, because he was a conservative, and I suspect he’s well aware of it.
It matters not who the Lieberals have as leader? They are, as a collective (heh), bereft of any semblance of policy proposals, the depth of their party is as shallow as dried cracking mud that was once a puddle. They are well on their way to extinction, a comedy of errors and outright stupidity that is breathtaking to behold.
