Isn’t it ironic?
Hard times all over the place (as reported by CBC).
Except of course, at CBC.
Gee, I wonder why?

Wednesday Update: Hunter and Raph have both picked up on this arrogant spending by the Mothercorps:
CBC, Their Hands in Our Pockets! - Climbing out of the Dark.
Twice at the Government Trough - Unambiguously Ambidextrous.

Great minds think alike, the CBC spending is going to be my post for tonight, once kids in bed and homework done, so this will tie in wonderfully.
Just told my husband, who had pointed out the article to me earlier, that you have beat me to the punch, but the way I look at it, is that the overspending by CBC can never get too much exposure by us bloggers!

Joanne, you beat me to this headline. Nicely done. I had the same thought as you. Also interesting is how a CBC executive VP has been in the Sun media over expensing of $80k to taxpayers for meals and theatre tickets, but nowhere could I find it in the CBC news.
Selective reporting all the way.

Wow, you too Hunter? I guess we all had the same reaction. Joanne’s just the quicker typer! lol

Reminds me of the CBC reporter at the Convention who asked Flaherty (after he said that Ottawa was looking at the sale of crown assets) if he was going to sell the CBC. Yes. Please do.

I had a job at a hotel in Calgary for a number of years and we were a favoured spot to stay when Spruce Meadows horse shows were on, usually in June. CBC would always send a big crew from TO for the month (2 major shows) - usually 20-50 rooms. CTV, when they took over would send 5 people including commentators for the show week only and use the local affiliates as the crew. We loved CBC - big spenders, lots of tips, tax payers money!!

That wouldn’t be wise, who knows what kind of reactions might happen if “Little mosque on the prarie” were to be axed.

I finally watched that show recently “Little mosque”, for all of about 5 minutes. It was just so unbelievably fake that I began to get kind of nauseated. I mean, it would be wonderful to think that Muslims were such inclusive, thoughtful, polite, well-adjusted, humourous, socially affectionate people. But I’m not buying this “Dances with Mohammad” style of theatre.
And anyway, I really loved Little House on the Prairie. Sure, it got soap operatic after a while, but the values of hard work, family love, and togetherness on that show remains something I think is one of the most missing aspects of our modern living. The creator, Michael Landon, came from a dysfunctional home, which is why his vision of this frontier family was so beautiful. Little Mosque is a cheap bastardization of multicult propaganda that taints Michael Landon’s show.
To be honest I even watched his religious show Highway to Heaven even as an atheist because the values he instills are so relevant to being a good person. But I think I’m off-topic now…

“Gee, I wonder why?”
Maybe we should ask Harper why he was gloating about upping CBC funding during the English debate.

Raph & Hunter, the juxtapostion of articles at NNW was just begging for a post. Glad you guys are picking up on it. I’ll link to your posts.
…but nowhere could I find it in the CBC news.

Raph, it’s hilarious with all the schadenfreude going on between various news media. They like to point out how poorly their brethren are doing.
Would be nice to see at least a show of restraint at the Mothercorps though.

Teddi, I fear that is too often the pattern. Thanks for the inside information.

I just bet that the folks at the CBC had lots of fun reporting on the cuts at CTV.
Seeing as though my taxdollars are going to fund the CBC, then that makes me part owner, and the CBC public servants…right?
How about the gov’t and CBC show us what responsible public servants do and treat themselves equally as the other non-tax dollar driven networks? I mean fair is fair.
Why should CBC escape scrutiny. If anything else, because it’s bought for on the public dime, how about a forensic financial audit be recommended? After all aren’t we now looking to find savings?
I can honestly say that given the choices on so many other networks - I don’t hang on CBC much at all.
note to Raphael - I’m not over religious either and I think that Little House on the Prairie was one of the best shows on TV…I still tune in to reruns. What kid didn’t want Michael Landon for a father???
Man, that guy could really cry, and it oddly endeared watchers I think.
Hey! That’s it!!!! While we’re reading about the decorum in the legislature, lack of it and the promise of better days ahead by all, maybe what we need to see are more old boys who can cry. I mean look at how folks gushed when either Obama or McCain got choked up over something - the public loved it!
Note to Gov’t, Opposition Parties - in addition to looking serious and interested when the legislature TV cameras have you in their sites….cry on cue.
Might not help, but can’t hurt any more than each party wearing their own fuzzy sweaters, in those fashionable party colours of course…Tories in Blue, Liberals in Red, NDP in orange…Bloc in, um,
white with giant Quebec flags on their chests. The NBC peacock would have nothing on this crowd.
sorry folks, I’m feeling silly today. Must be all of that global warming that continues to fall in my corner of the country.

Well said, Raph. I feel exactly the same way.
