It seems rather hypocritical to me that Michael Ignatieff and his sock puppets would deride Conservatives and deliberately attempt to mislead Canadians over policy voted on in a televised CPC Convention Plenary Session, yet fail to allow the cameras at a weekend Liberal meeting.
As the Record notes in today’s editorial, "Traditionally, governments try to close the door on people who want to look inside while opposition parties are in favour of opening the door to the public and the press."
Of course, ‘Bob the Builder’ favoured an open door session, which seems more enlightened and honest.
Could it be that the Iggysiah camp also believes that Canadians are stupid?

Wednesday Update: Antonia Zerbisias must be an Iggysiah follower too. If you have a really strong stomach, check out Prime Minister, your grass roots are showing.
Then quick take a shower.
Gee, funny how she doesn’t go after Iggy for wanting to keep reporters away from their little vent-session. But it’s fair game to ridicule grass-roots opinion shown in a public forum. The hypocrisy is astounding.
And I won’t even mention how many times Harper has stated he won’t open the abortion issue. (See ChuckerCanuk link above.)

Meanwhile, as part of my ABI campaign – Rae defends his time as Premier. (Post)
And I found a Liblogger who is more than welcome to join ABI – Eugene Forsey Liberal: Count Iggula: No-one is QP is fooled. Great pic here. Ya gotta see it!
Welcome, Zoomit Canada readers!

Joanne…have you just introduced an new word to our political language? “Iggysiah”?…how appropriate, another empty suit that wants to tickle your ears, and he has accomplished nothing.
I still wouldn’t trust Rae.
I noticed CTV labeled the CPC Winnipeg conference as ‘controversial’.After reading all the BT Blogs that description seemed pretty desperate on the part of CTV.
…After “reading”…
Need more coffee…
I do hope, Joanne, that you are not surprised that Ignatieff is a hypocrite. I do not quite agree with your assessment, in this case, of Bob Rae being more enlightened and honest. My own opinion is that Rae is feeling less than greatly supported and is just lashing out for the publicity and to case some sort of aspersions on his opponent. I would hesitate to use the word “honest” in the same sentence as Bob Rae’s name.
As for Ignatieff, I think his running “against Harper” is the stupidest thing I’ve heard in a long time. Really, he cannot run against the PM when we are not in election mode and he is not even in a position to run against the PM since he’s not the leader of a party. It’s all just silly posturing and, from what I’ve seen of him in QP, he does like to grimace and posture even when the grimaces and postures bear no relation to his words.
As for Rae – good grief, anybody but Rae. Mr. Ontario in ruins Bob Rae.
Other than that little bit about Rae and honesty and enlightenment, Joanne, you’re always right on the money so I’ll forgive this little trangression. LOL.
Joanne…have you just introduced an new word to our political language? “Iggysiah”?…
Bluetech, I can’t take all the credit. I got the idea from the Post link (over the phrase ‘Bob the Builder’). Offman called him ‘Michael the Messiah’, but I decided to shorten it.
…After “reading”…
Fixed it.
Mark Holland, in a TV interview yesterday, misrepresented CPC policy as put forth at the CPC Convention.
Peter van Dusen interviewed Rae Monday on CPAC here, starting around the 15 minute mark.
Here’s my favorite exchange:
PvD: “… Can you have BOTH, can you have debates where you’re meeting in private, it seems to me this is where the Party might have been headed. Let’s have some of these debates with riding presidents, sort of if I can say, sort of the upper crust of the Party. Let’s get together with them and meet behind closed doors. And then we’ll do these OTHER debates in public as the leadership contest gets under way”
Rae: “I think the way you’ve described it in your question is the reason why it’s untenable. I’m amazed that a member of the media would be even be hypothetically putting forward such an alternative, for many reasons, Peter …”
The way Rae criticized van Dusen for putting forward such an obvious and reasonable explanation for why the LPCO wanted to start with a private session, suggests to me that van Dusen is bang on. I mean come on, Rae KNEW the session was going to be a closed door affair two weeks ago, and surely agreed to that format.
It’s fun to watch Rae’s body language during the interview, for example when he scratches his neck, suggesting he is uncomfortable with the question.
Rae is looking pretty desperate, at this early stage of the race.
All of Rae’s “arguments” surrounding this open/closed debate issue are very lame. He is insulting the intelligence of the media, us junkies, and LPC members. The only way Rae’s actions make sense to me, is if we are witnessing Act I of the Rise and Fall of the Dipper Invader. Future Acts will have Rae disagreeing with other procedural aspects of the race, then dropping out around February.
Joanne, Did you hear what Q/P-Craig Oliver said about PM and the media-you should listen to it.
Strange, the PM thanks the bloggers for delivering his message to the public- NOT THE MEDIA.
Kinsella is not officially part of Ignatieff’s team. Can anyone show me a single announcement to that effect. Until then he speaks for himself . On abortion I can’t find where Ignatieff stands but like any true intellectual will not describe the issue as black and white.
I’m with Mr. Ignatieff on this. If it was agreed that those meetings were closed to media, then they should have remained so.
And as far as closing certain meetings to media, I’m all for it. I continue to posit: does the media invite the public, which has a stake as consumers of their pap … er … profound analyses … does the media invite the public into THEIR staff meetings?
Does the Press Gallery welcome the “new media” (see Stephen Taylor’s thread on the Speaker candidates for this) into what it considers its own private domain?
“To everything there is a season … a time to keep silence, and a time to speak.” Mr. Rae missed this opportunity.
I do believe that Mr. Kinsella’s simply trying to do a little channel changing himself. We’ve read the books too.
To tell you the truth I’d be looking to change the channel too if my candidate and party was up to its eyeballs in bickering and in-fighting. What better way to divert the attention of the public and media than to throw them a bone like the twisting of what conservative policy might indicate, or not.
The public are tired of the whole conspiracy-a-day thing that happened under Dion. If Iggy’s directed his team to do that then, he’ll truly lose on all fronts.
I see Mr. Kinella’s most recent “gotcha” spins something sinister re: Harper’s lawyer quitting (Cadman circus) and the party’s decision to remove it’s campaign ads from YouTube.
No story there dude.
Kathy, the Conservatives must keep track of everything spewed about them by Holland and call him to retract what isn’t factual. He’s very militant and inflammatory, and bears watching. He’s made false accusations in the HOC as well and got shut up for a period. We can’t rely on the media to correct his accusations either.
Not that it matters a hoot, but if Kinsella isn’t part of Iggy’s team, why has he not personally denied it?
If Rae has the backing of the Power Corps cabal it would figure, given Kinsella’s undying love for Chretien, one would expect him to be backing Rae. However, nothing much adds up in the frenzied and fractured Liberal party.
One thing for sure, since Kinsella is working within the “family” we won’t see him pull any stuffed animals or smart ass comments for public consumption.
Any election postmortem that I have heard about has been limited to party members and free. Charging admission, allowing non members to attend, and inviting the press seems to me to be symptoms of desperation. They may have made a few dollars from their members, but I think there will be some negative reaction from members disgusted at having to pay to tell the party brass how they screwed up. By allowing non members admittance, one wonders whether the Liberals think that they are more in need of money, ideas, or warm bodies. An invitation to the press to what is normally a private internal function smacks of a desperate attempt to deflect attention away from the CPC convention. After looking at the Liberal outlook, the world economic situation doesn’t look nearly as bad.
It is no wonder that Canadians, are turning the channel because this is positively assnine.
My opinion, Iggysiah the grump, is mean spirited and dated. Bob the baby, a starving, attention grabbing misfit. Dominic, in the middle of chaos.
Liberals, can have them….it is THEIR ENTITLEMENT…as they Reap what they Sow.
Joanne…have you just introduced an new word to our political language? “Iggysiah”?…
How about Iggy-noramus.
How about Iggyuana (Iguana – tropical American lizard)
Could actually tailor this to Iggy-wanna(as in wannabe Liberal leader)
How about Iggy-saurus ? As in doomed to become extinct. Not able to adapt to the new political landscape.
Not able to adapt to the new political landscape.
Or else ready to squash all other Liberal leadership lifeforms…
Did you read the comments after Zerb’s spew. 100% negative. Not sure how many may have been directed from here?
