This just in from Newstalk 570: Conservative Peter Braid has won the official recount over Andrew Telegdi by 17 votes! This process has been going on since Wednesday.
Every ballot was recounted.
The Record – Recount confirms Braid as winner…
Congratulations, Peter Braid! And thank you Justice Donald Gordon for a job well done.
Congrats too, to Aaron. I’m sure he’ll have lots to tell us.
Saturday Update: H/T to Gabby in the previous post for this link to David Akin’s blog, which includes official Elections Canada information. David also has a link to Pundits’ Guide – Well worth checking out.
Record - It’s Braid by a Hair in Recount. (Very clever. Wish I had thought of that one.) This link is also posted in the next post.

Excellent result and democracy was upheld, a fine example of how things are supposed to be done.
Awsome….
Great news!!! Democracy at work!
Yahoooo.
Conservatives 144 and after Vancouver re-count(hopefully)145?
Liberals now back down to 77? and maybe 76?
Nice to see someone knows how to do a VOTE re-count.
Oxford Dictionary-
Counting-Definition:
the act of counting; eg: “the counting continued for several hours”
Congratulations everyone! On a serious note though. This was really close and got closer. (yikes) A very good example of WHY THIS IS SO BLANKETY-BLANK IMPORTANT!
The reputation of Democracy in Canada upheld. Congratulations to all involved for making sure the win was fair and square.
Time for the judge in Vancouver South to demonstrate that he has the interests of all votes to uphold.
[...] recount. Nothing less should satisfy the voters of the Vancouver South riding or all Canadians. As Joanne at Blue Like You says, in other parts of Canada, the recounts are being done right. One can only hope that Judge Patrick [...]

Bec, exactly! All the more reason for every single ballot to be counted in Vancouver South.
Just proves that every vote counts, so make sure you get out and vote next time. I am tired of those on the street interviews on Did you vote, why not and the answeres, it doesn’t matter, one vote is not important. This elections has shown, yes it is important to vote.
Just proves that every vote counts
As long as they count every vote.
Wa Hoo,just passed the news on to my son at WLU , he claims now he is the poster child for how your votes count, now on to the halloween party.
Braid’s margin of victory decreased from about 70 votes to just 17 votes…
Which is a stunning reason why Vancouver South must be recounted, with Dosanjh’s victory with just 22 votes.
Janet, that’s so cool. Your son knows his vote made a difference.
John, if the Vancouver South recount doesn’t include every single ballot, it’s going to hang over their heads forever.
This is Super Awesome!
Paul, I know. I heard the introduction to the newscast on 570 and they were driving me crazy leading into the story. I was shouting at the radio, ‘So tell me already!’
I was so relieved to hear the results!
Joanne, Nobody should be more relieved than those of us who live in the Kitchener-Waterloo riding. We now have a confirmed Conservative MP instead of the former arrogant self-centred Liberal dinosaur we had before.
Thanks for your recent blogging on the Vancouver recount. Hopefully they will complete a full recount there like was done here.
O/T but more bad news for the Liberals.
The fund-raising numbers for the 3rd quarter are just up on the Elections Canada website.
CPC = $6,367,676
LPC = $2,077,930
NDP = $1,890,900
However the Liberal number includes transfers from the associations and leadership piggy banks, so the actual amount raised in the quarter from donors was $1,855,253, or in other words, $35,647 LESS than the NDP. In the middle of an election campaign.
Isn’t it interesting that we hear very little about this upset on the MSM.
Bob Ray or Iggy could stub theit toe, and get front page news, but an overturned seat, mygod the tories. nothing
Hey, Glenn! I’m so happy tonight! The really great thing about this is urban Southwestern Ontario areas going Conservative. Awesome!
Bob Ray or Iggy could stub theit toe, and get front page news, but an overturned seat, mygod the tories. nothing
That’s o.k., Robin. Little by little we win the battle – while they’re so self-absorbed.
You are quite correct, “we shall overcome”, great quote,
lets see a proper recount in Van South, maybe that will wake up some of the navel gazers
Canadians should be aware that there are over 100,000
young Canadian men and women, (soldiers, sailors and
airmen) lying in graves in Europe that gave their supreme sacrifice for us to be able to enjoy freedom, and to be able to vote for the individual and the party of our choice. I feel very sad when you see people who dont give a damn whether they vote or not. They should visit our memorials in our towns and cities to read the names of these young people so they can understand what freedom is all about. If it wasn’t for the sacrifice of these young men and women who gave their lives for freedom that we now enjoy, these “unvoters” might still be polishing Nazi officers boots. It’s people like this who don’t vote
dont deserve to live in a democratic society which we now enjoy. I know. My family has been deeply involved in two world wars.
Still no mention of this win on Bourque or NNW.
I know that it is Halloween and all (did anyone catch Craig Oliver ALMOST be a meanie again on MDL)
but why can I not see a blessed thing about this upset? Are we being naive in assuming it should hit the National News? Libs beat the Bloc and I hear about it 12 times in 1 day out here in AB but this candidate wins a recount against a veteran MP and NADA! Oh but he is a neocon…whoops I forgot.

Err.. how many seats have the LPC won in past elections due to the corrupt Elections Canada which is now under scrutiny to do the ‘right thing’ but often was NOT in past?
All of you that have been working so hard on this issue (recounts) will be happy to know that at least ONE MSM reporter has picked it up: David Akin.

Awesome! Thanks for that, Gabby!
“Err.. how many seats have the LPC won in past elections due to the corrupt Elections Canada which is now under scrutiny to do the ‘right thing’ but often was NOT in past?”
EXACTLY my thinking – although I am sure there are many who would scoff at that thinking. This kind of thing sure makes you wonder though?
[...] he started out with a 33 vote lead. This one has the potential to rival Peter Braid’s win in Kitchener-Waterloo for a close [...]
