I’m going to take a few days off to focus on things that require my attention in my personal life, but I’ll leave you with this fantastic editorial from the Washington Times – Canada’s New Conservatism. (H/T National Newswatch)
We sometimes forget what an amazing leader Stephen Harper is. He has pulled together a winning party in a relatively short time. Now he is steering Canada through difficult economic times with an increased mandate from the Canadian electorate:
…The Conservatives’ policy of fiscal restraint is paying dividends. Mr. Harper promised to keep spending and taxes under control – issues on which he has much credibility. He cut the national sales tax, personal taxes and corporate taxes. As a result, Mr. Harper is able to maintain his position while increasing his support-even in the midst of a global meltdown. The World Economic Forum rated Canada’s banking system as the strongest in the world. And indeed, a sound Canadian economy is good for America since Canada is our largest trading partner …
We have good reason to be proud.
Or as Conrad Black observed in Saturday’s National Post:
…Stephen Harper can lead Canadians over this last hurdle to a confident national identity, no longer defining themselves in relation to another country, but a great nation in itself, contributing the best of its own personality to the world. He would then be a very important prime minister…
Well, I would say that Stephen Harper already is a very important Prime Minister.
