A Political Funny

One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he asked about his bill and the barber replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber goes to open his shop the next morning there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The cop is happy and leaves the shop.

The next morning when the barber goes to open up there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Later that day, a college professor comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The professor is very happy and leaves the shop.

The next morning when the barber opens his shop, there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen different books, such as 'How to Improve Your Business' and 'Becoming More Successful.'

Then, a Member of Parliament comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay his bill the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Member of Parliament is very happy and leaves the shop.

The next morning when the barber goes to open up, there are a dozen Members of Parliament lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the Members of Parliament.

Vote carefully this year.

I agree with Dief, but would like to make a comment about our election. The vote is not in yet but all indicators are for Conservative minority. The pundits seem united on their analysis that it was a Quebec meltdown that sealed this. Another blogging Tory, Hunter, has voiced a strong frustration with this so-called Quebec factor. You can't talk about Quebec without talking about entitlements. Both Liberal and Conservatives have for years lavished buckets of money on the Province in hopes of appeasing the citizens, to no avail. In this election Stephen Harper will lose a chance at a majority by the simple fact that a small fraction of those entitlements were put in jeopardy. They forget the BILLIONS sent to them from all regions of the country and throw a hissy when a few million in culture money is redirected, not cut but redirected. The Province shows a wafer thin skin at perceived slights from outside it's borders yet refers to Albertans as REDNECKS. In most ridings in Canada if you don't elect a member from the party that forms government you do not see a lot of money spent in your riding. In Quebec you can elect a seperatist M.P. and still expect the entitlements. I can see why Hunter is miffed.

I'm still confused about what will be available and when re: results. That hasn't been explained clearly any where.

Also, is there any timeline for a candidate to disband their website?

Hey JJ....just a quick note to thank you for your Blog and letting 'nonnys' comment. Its been an interesting 6 months, from the lead up to the election to tonights results. Like listeners who dont phone in to call in shows us nonny's probably read more then we comment. There's two things that are going to happen after this election is over. The first is that Stephen Harper, whether he likes it or not has to grow into becoming Canada's leader, not the CPC's leader, he has to become more media friendly and, he has to start showing a more human side to him...again..whether Cons like it or not its been the biggest stumbling block. Second....Cons have to understand that you can govern from right but, you have to get elected on a centre/left platform...its just the way it is. Again..thanks JJ.
I'm taking my daughter with me for her very first vote..(ours was the funny house with a Green Party sign and a Cheryl Gallant sign)...I'll wait until after the election to tune her up for that one.
