I had only begun reading the Star’s endorsement of Dion and the Liberals, when I was overcome with howls of laughter at their choice of unimaginative phrases lifted directly from Liberal talking points.
Let’s see here:
- neo-conservative
- Bush (three times!)
- Mike Harris
- “ripped up the Kelowna accord”
- “secretive and controlling”
- “mean-spirited”
I give them a D for lack of originality. In fact, I’ll give them a P for plagiarism.

Update: Well, gearing up for another day when my stats go through the roof thanks to SDA!
Must have been hard for the Star to put out this one – Ontario boosts Tory lead.
Stephen Taylor has saved me a pile of work. I was planning to do a post of MSM election endorsements, but Stephen has it all here awaiting your viewing pleasure.
And these folks obviously didn’t pay any attention to the Star editorial…

Michael Coren has a great column today: Election about you
Greg Weston:We don’t understand either
Both good reads.According to Sun Media,PMSH had crowd of over 1500 in Etobicoke last eve, bigger than the Lib rally, complete with Chretien.I watched the Dion speech from same rally, and he has nothing new,it is the same speech, same lame ‘jokes’ and it is getting old and boring.Watching the faces of the group behind Dion,it was clear that they felt the same. There were times when Chretien looked like he wanted nothing more than for the speech to end,and I saw him look around Dion to the notes on the podium..likely checking to see how much he had left to deliver..Chretien looked tired, old and sweaty.I also thot I saw him check his Blackberry a few times.I almost felt sorry for him,as I’m sure he would much rather have been by his wife’s side, than on stage with that fiasco!Sheila Copps also looked bored, and somewhat disinterested.I’ll bet there are a lot of Libs just wishing this could be over,so they can find a new leader.
They forgot the add at the bottom “This message approved by the agent for the Federal Liberal Party”
I’ve stopped reading the Star…gives me heartburn…
They forgot the add at the bottom “This message approved by the agent for the Federal Liberal Party”
Zing!!! I hope they have already registered for Third-party status with Elections Canada.

The Star publishing this at this ungodly hour seems to be one of those decisions that needs to be made after the bottle of the Macallan is nearly finished and turned over on it`s side. They know that it`s probably a diluded opinion that is open to scorn and ridicule and not up to the snuff test, but what choice does the Star have at this pointÉ They have to go with the girl that brung them.
What is amusing is that this piece could`ve basically been used for any of the last 8 or so federal elections – just change a name or two.
The Star’s playing to their Toronto audience. They have to sell papers after all, and keep the Liberals afloat because Dion can’t do it.
The Star’s wrong….and it’s also inconsistent with what it’s been writing thus far.
I would have figured that they would have endorsed Hugo Chavez.
If I am not mistaken I believe the Star’s sister publications, Pravda and the Communist Worker’s Daily have already beat them to the punch.
Hey, does this make the mother ship – The Toronto Star – at odds with its grassroot regions??? Consider The Record’s endorsement…..maybe mother corp. is in a disconnect with the rest of the province..even it’s own???
Not a great or confident sign.
Perhaps they couldn’t find any reasons to print as to why people should support the Liberals and instead focused on why not the Conservatives. Hardly an endorsement. But then, I admit to not reading the article. I avoid the Star like the plague!
The Star agrees with the Tailiban and Danny Williams. Quite a combo.
Attention journalists:
Is any newsperson other than Greg Weston curious about the fact that it appears a prospective PM, leader on the world stage, and head of our state,
fakes disabilities,
when in a bind?
Isn’t that sort of an instant disqualifier, for literally any position of responsibility, let alone the job of running our country???
Isn’t this something every man and woman in this country would want to know about when making their decision on Tuesday?
Dion’s campaign claimed hearing problems as the cause:
it was a sound proof studio, and the questioner was sitting two feet away from him. He would have to be legally deaf not to have heard the question, and as far as I can tell, Dion has never been diagnosed with a hearing disorder, let alone one severe enough to justify not hearing a lone individual in a sound proof studio.
I guess we should keep looking for five year old speeches Harper gave.
Now THAT would be important “revealing” headline grabbing news.
Wonderful, since Dion and Layton “care” and “feel my pain” and are “in touch” blah, blah blah, is it fair to assume that if I lose my job or my pension fund evaporates due to their thoroughly discredited economic hocus pocus that they will personally show up at my home to share a group hug and sing “kumbayah”? Not bl##@y likely! Give me the hard-nosed economist who’s going to give me the best chance of maintaining the integrity of the financial system any day. I’ll get my hugs from my dog.
They don’t call it The Liberal Party of Toronto for nothing.
This goes beyond media bias to media manipulation.
Without quoting PMSH, Den Tandt posts this outrageous column.
Harper Team classless.

We all know what Dion said . Does anyone know what Steven Harper said that is so bad?!
I don’t have time to fisk this…and maybe it’s not worth it…
So far Duffy has taken a hit for ‘reporting’, now PMSH, whose left..oh yeah..
It’s Kate’s fault that Dion couldn’t answer the question!!
I wanted to show you what arrived in my mailbox. It seems I must have posted somewhere to have a liberal think I am liberal. Oh well… this is the information they want embedded in the minds of voters…can you believe it… out and out exaggerations and lies….
<blockquoteVote Liberal!
Issue:
•
Why Stéphane Dion and the Liberal Party of Canada deserve our vote.
Key Messages:
•
The Liberal Party is the only party offering Canadians the combination of a strong record of economic management, a strong team of experienced men and women ready to take action on day one, and a strong plan to tackle the challenges of today and tomorrow.
•
Stephen Harper has failed Canadians.
•
He has failed the 200,000 families in across Canada who have lost good, full-time jobs.
•
He has failed the families waiting for a child care space.
•
He has failed the growing number of people concerned about the climate change crisis and the millions of Canadians watching our retirement savings lose value in the global financial crisis.
•
He has no plan to help Canadians deal with the challenges we face.
•
To hardworking families struggling to make ends meet, Harper’s response is: look for bargains in the falling stock market.
•
After sitting on their hands for months, the Conservatives are now panicking and grasping at straws.
•
Canadians deserve better. We deserve a government that cares about them, that will take action to make Canada stronger.
•
In their first 30 days of government the Liberals will invest significantly in the manufacturing sector and infrastructure projects to boost job creation.
•
They will also bring together the heads of Canada’s banks and regulatory bodies, the provinces and territories so the government can take a united approach to the financial crisis and safeguard our savings.
•
The Liberal Action Plan will cut our taxes, and greenhouse gases.
•
It will help recruit more doctors and nurses and make our universities more accessible.
It is not too late to counter this…I hope.
–forgive the typo…not able to get in and fix it—I hate it when this happens
So the entire readership of the TorStar now has the permission of the Red Rag to continue to be brain dead and feel good about it.
