The Dream Team copes with a nightmare
So this is what it’s come down to - In spite of everyone’s best efforts in the Liberal caucus, Stephane Dion continues to cling to his vision of the Green Shift, and its immediate implementation if he becomes PM.
Even Peter Mansbridge tried to pull him from the abyss, but Dion steadfastly clung to his dream.
Which makes me ask, if the whole Liberal appeal is the team, then who’s going to make the decisions?
* * * *
Note: Ironically, I started writing this post before MDL Prime Time tonight. The Liberals really do have a nightmare on their hands now.
The Nightmare gets worse - Globe endorses Harper and Tories! (H/T Sammy)
Well sort of, anyway. It’s the most back-handed compliment I’ve ever read. But we won’t look a gift-horse in the mouth, right?
So now that’s the Globe, The Post, The Record, The Economist… Who else?
Globe - Dion fumbles CTV interview.
Jonathan Kay - Not Stephane Dion’s finest hour.

Lets see now.
Ms. May has offered up all her Green voters to the liberals.
Id expect that the price was the immediate implementation of the green shift plan.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Actually Lee, the price was a cabinet position.
If I were the other parties, I would be complaining to Elections Canada that this deal between Dion and May in effect has broken campaign spending limits.
I would argue that this “coalition has allowed them to effectively spend double what the other parties were allowed.
And that is how all the parties should be framing it for the next 4 days, including the Bloc.

Actually Lee, the price was a cabinet position.
Paul, were you able to find proof of that? It’s been a busy evening, and I’m still wading through all the comments, so maybe there’s already a link somewhere.
What I’ve found so far is the many times Dion has been asked this and he refuses to answer. Mansbridge asked him right in the interview last night.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Someone e-maled me a link with Dion refusing to deny it with Mansbridge. A simple I never promised her a cabinat position would have sufficed, but Dion would not deny it.
I’ll have to check my trash can and see if I still have the link.
And, oh yeah. LEAFS WIN:0)
October 9th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I’ll have to check my trash can and see if I still have the link.
Well, no worries. I have a link to that interview on another post. Thanks.
So you’re a Leafs fan, eh? My hubby likes the Habs.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
“So you’re a Leafs fan, eh? My hubby likes the Habs.”
Tell him he should be rooting for both blue teams.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Not … one Blue Team are winners the other are ….?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
We’ll get them next year!
Repeated every since 1967, and sure to be repeated quite a few more years.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
And the spin and excuses have started - Jane Tabor’s globe article mentions the hearing problem over and over. Come on people. This is no hearing problem; it was clearly explained to him. Besides, the understanding part wasn’t the big thing - it was when he finally understood it - his answer was he was going to have a meeting to find out what to do.
Remember when Randy White’s tape came out in 2004 - the press sure didn’t jump to the defense of him. Remember all those times the press jumped on every little gaffe the Tories have made for years since Stephen Harper became leader. This is payback. Now they know how it feels. Karma is a bitch huh
October 9th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
i just read that article by “Giggles” Taber on the Green Shaft and I must admit, I am less worried about the outcome of this election. I was bracing myself for the possibility of that nitwit Dion getting in and going back to the way it was. I just hope this translates into enough of a bump for the Tories to demolish the Libs.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Karma is a bitch huh
lol! That’s why your comment got stuck in the filter!
Seriously, the Liberals are going to try to make Harper look so mean for picking on little Steffie again.
Yes, we should make Steffi the leader of our country because he tries so hard - even if he is incompetant.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
I found this on liblogs. Opps, I maen McLeans:

October 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Get a grip folks. Harper has it all over Dion. If that clip was anything at all it was proof positive that Dion’s a puppet. The campaign has just gone bust for them - Joanne - you’re much too kind to them in your opening lines.
Re: Dion’s deal with Elizabeth May - you saw how great Duffy was with Reagan. Reagan out and out lied to Duffy in full view of the nation and them claimed not to have said that Duff was picking on Dion’s physical impairment. The excuse from Reagan for Dion’s video performance that it was due to bad hearing.
Give me a break.
If I were Chretien I’d think twice about showing up in Brampton tomorrow.

Read the comments at the G&M, first time I hav done it in months. Can you imagine how many of those who have made vicious comments re PMSH are now threatening to boycott the G&M, cancel subscriptions, quit clicking on any item etc. They plan to hit the revenue of the G&M by not clicking on their site etc.
Therefore, if we win on Oct 14, the least we can do is retaliate by going and clicking like mad and maybe, even get a subscription. (I know, but we can’t let the leftists win) And if they all quit reading and commenting, it might become a good place to go.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
I can’t believe Kady O’Malley and Adam Radwanski both defending this. Unbelievable. The bias is absolutely unbelievable. When I think over the last three election campaigns and how every gaffe has been picked apart and ridiculed; for them to be making excuses for Dion just shows that they are not impartial.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Today Andrew Coyne appeared to be defending Stephen Harper in his handling of the economy on McLean.ca. So I watched ” at issue” on CBC national news expecting Andrew Coyne to stand up for Stephen Harper. But now we know how two faced Andrew Coyne is. He joined bashing Stephen Harper and then telling Canadians that Stephan Dion is a leader and qualifyed to lead Canada through this economic turmoil. There was no mention of the carbon tax at all. So much for Andrew Coyne being the defender of less tax. Andrew Coyne deserves no mercy . The CBC will go to any length to promote the Liberal Party.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Thanks for the Macleans link, Paul. I just put it on a new post.
I can’t believe Kady O’Malley and Adam Radwanski both defending this.
Oh, I can. Macleans isn’t getting another penny from me.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
did you see the clip of Duffy vs. G.Reagan(Lib. MP) about Dion’s performance.
Reagan tried to accuse Duffy of picking on Dion’s physical impairment….but Duff scored a take-down on Reagan….BIG TIME.
Never mess with the Duffinator!!!
The “excuses are us” usual suspects come out and defend a performance like that, and expect to be taken seriously.
Oh, and is there any legal action that Layton and Harper together can take against the May/Dion deal?
All THAT tells me is that it was Dion all along who harboured the true secret agenda.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Maybe we should get on them for being so cruel to Mr. Harper regarding his alleged ‘empathy’ problem. Why is that o.k. to attack but this isn’t?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
And if they all quit reading and commenting, it might become a good place to go.
Mary T, you’ve got a point there. Boycott Macleans.
Buy the Globe.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
write them and tell them you’re taking action. Action counts. Words are just words.
October 10th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Paulstuff and Joanne …
I am tempted to carry on the Maple Leafs jibes …. but suffice to say it’s just too easy.
Kind of like making fun of Dionglish … but seriously I think it was a bad faith move to tell the Dion team there would be no broadcast of this and then run it locally and nationally.
The MSM are real bastards and yet …. the candid exposure of a would be leader who is obviously incapable of answering the kind of question any executive job interviewer would ask is starkly revealing of the deep flaws this man has.
I am shocked that they ran it…. not shocked that they are now trying to spin a cocoon around it though.
This does however, make a point about the LIberals that I have been proclaiming for years. If the MSM ever stop carrying their water the Liberals are DEAD .
Ask not for who the bell tolls Stephane it tolls for thee!
October 10th, 2008 at 7:38 am
And quit bashing the Leafs. They went into Detroit and beat the Wings on opening night.
Next stop, sipping from Lord Stanley’s mug.
What?
Is that any more delusional than the people out there defending Dion after his meltdown? train-wreck? What do you call that mess?
October 10th, 2008 at 11:06 am
Ok … I’ll leave the Maple Leafs alone … it’s really unfair to them to conflate their abilities with Dion’s lack of ……
October 10th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
I’m ambivalent about the Globe’s ‘back-handed’ endorsement too. But, overall, I think it’s better than nothing or the reverse.
