Prime Minister Dion?

Get used to it, Canada. Polls show that you’re falling for the ABC campaign. But be careful what you wish for.

Roger Smith just said on MDL that Stephane Dion has his transition team ready to go.

It’s just a matter of waiting for the formality of an election now. Are YOU ready for Prime Minister Dion?

Now, that’s scary.

*   *   *   *

And I would suggest that the NDP change their tactics pronto. The keys to Stornoway are looking rather remote right now.

Update: The MDL clip is up now.

Stephane Dion said today that he ‘expects to be Prime Minister’ and he had his transition team in place. At Much Music he was referring to himself as the Prime Minister and to his wife as the ‘First Lady’!!!

“Stephane Dion has his transition team ready to go.”

Heh! After a rocky week for the CPC and still a week to go …….he now acts like he has won! Isn’t that called hubris?? Now that the Tory majority bugaboo is no longer in play, people are starting to look a little closer and notice that he still hasn’t renounced the carbon tax. So, hopefully people will think and avoid a huge national “OOPS!” moment like we did in Ontario when Rae got in.

  2. Canadians do not trust Mr Harper or the Conservatives to spend enough money to make sure they are comfortable in tough times. Honestly JJ…Ontario is in deep trouble and its only a matter of time before Canada feels the hurt from the US. I’m starting to think 10 months with Dion and Layton might just wipe them off the face of the electoral map for a decade!!
If you think about it its very amusing. Dion will never be able to keep the majority of his promises regarding the environment. Alberta and Saskatchewan will be unwilling partners in a carbon tax scheme. Feeling the heat…how do you think McGuinty’s going to feel about 3 billion a year charged to the coal fired electric plants in southern Ontario. It wont take long for the greentards to realize that they cant make Dion do anymore for them then Harper did, and, it wont take long for voters and the MSM to figure out that most of this was made up on the fly because no one ever thought he’d win!! I say..let him have the job…if he manages to make it work then were all better for it…if he does what most thinking people think he’ll do, then, he destroy’s the Liberal brand for the next 2o years!!

  3. Good points, Bill.

The other thing is that when Quebec sees how Dion dictates to Quebec how things are going to be, and takes back the power to Ottawa, they are going to rue the day they voted Bloc.

  4. I say it’s a very scary thought to think about Dion as PM. Come on Ontario, wake up before it’s too late.
I sure can’t afford any carbon taxes in my world.

  5. Kinda rolls off the tongue …. Prime Minister Carbon Tax … er… Dion.

    Oops!

  6. CPC reversal to come.Pray for another huge run-up in the TSX tomorrow.Up 252 points today. That’s all Canadians care about.

  7. Joanne, as I predicted earlier on your earlier post, the local papers her in Ajax-Pickering, Whitby-Oshawa, Clarington, have all endorsed the Conservative candidates in their respective ridings.

  8. dion and cherniak think the grist will be in power. I think they should wait for the election. They were the ones dismissing these polls up to now.
Canad is slated to have a 1.2% groth next year according to the IMF. That is the strongest of our allies. If dion was to win we would have a carbon tax recession.

  9. Are you surprised at Dion’s arrogance with Paul Martin holding his hand?

Geez, if it isn’t Martin it’s bare-assed Bob Rae, not just arrogance at work but the same guy who blew it for Ontario…just ask Baird, Clements and Flaherty who had to pick up THOSE pieces.

  10. “After a rocky week for the CPC and still a week to go …….he now acts like he has won! Isn’t that called hubris??”

And at the debates Harper said the NDP and LPC were vying for second place.

    Hubris anyone?

And Joanne - there was never, ever, any chance the NDP would take over the LPC.

Everyone: relax. The CPC will win.

  11. Dion admitted in Q&A today, that no matter the state of OUR economy,he will implement the carbon-tax ASAP.Be afraid,be very afraid..the Cons need to get a clip of that and replay it over and over.
BTW,I saw on the braaaaawdcast tonite, who is behind one of the vote-swap sites. It’s the co-founder of celeb gossip rag (out of you guessed it TO) NOW magazine (Alice Klein)…quite the influential mag.when one of the headlines up at the on-line site is ‘I did so much cocaine my hair fell out!’

  12. …he was referring to himself as the Prime Minister and to his wife as the ‘First Lady’!!!’

Huh? First Lady??? … Not in Canada, you say? …clearly Dion has said the word “BUSH” so often in this campaign, he must think he lives in the good ol US of A.

If this twerp EVER gets to be PM, I just might have to move there!

  13. If Dion were to win, he’d become the Lib version of Joe Clark.

Most of his caucus support other leadership contenders, he’d have a very weak minority, and we’d probably be in another election in under 6 months.

During those 6 months the economy will tank and people will wish for the “good old days” under Harper.

  14. I am waiting for the National Press Gallery to ask the tough questions of Dion on the actual cost of Green Shift. They are giving him a free ride.

  15. Just watching Dion live on CBC. Dion says he knows he has a French accent and he will work on it until the last minute of his life.

How does that hit you, Quebec?

  16. Canadians electing Dion would be just as bad and as stupid as the Americans when they elected George W. Bush (twice!). It would be falling for the media bias and fear. (Note that in the US the media tends to be bias in favor of the incumbent Republicans, and is too easy on the government; exactly the opposite of here). Canadians would spend the next 6 months thinking “My God, what have we done?

  17. Watch Dion live on CBC!! You won’t believe this!!!!!

  18. “The Government of Kabul”.. Kabul has a government?

  19. Canada is done, Socialism reigns and smart people will leave if the Libs win this one.

  20. Please, please watch CBC right now!

  21. Dion says he approve all the ads and none of them are negative.

  22. Stephane Dion said today that he ‘expects to be Prime Minister’ and he had his transition team in place. At Much Music he was referring to himself as the Prime Minister and to his wife as the ‘First Lady’!!!

I don’t know if anyone else agrees but I think this could be a “moment” in the campaign. Arrogance is not a good thing.

  23. I have new respect for Peter Mansbridge.

This interview should be required viewing for anyone planning to vote Liberal.

  24. Gayle says:
Everyone: relax. The CPC will win.

If we don’t win a majority Gayle, Duceppe and Dion will form a coalition (Duceppe gave the nod to Dion today) Mr Unity and the man who would break up Canada will dictate to the ROC.
BC,Alberta,Sask and Manitob combined would be represented by 5-10 Lib Mps in a Liberal/Duceppe gov’t.
308 seats, and the 4 western provinces combined would have at most 10 seats in government.

  25. At this point, I would prefer Layton to Dion as PM.

  26. Missed it, will watch it tonight, later.

  27. That interview was the absolute best ad for the Conservatives!!! I cannot believe it.

Mansbridge just gave Dion enough rope so he could hang himself. Well done Peter.

The question is, does the Canadian electorate see through the sham?

  28. If anyone sees that interview online, PLEASE let me know!!! Thanks.

  29. Northern Ontario Tory Says:
    October 8th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

    wilson Says:
“If we don’t win a majority Gayle, Duceppe and Dion will form a coalition ”

The suggestion by the left that they can simply announce a coalition and ask the GG to form a government (thereby seizng power) is not how our system works. The GG cannot politicize the office by making such an arbitrary decision……it would only happen if the PM resigned and recommended it. Otherwise, the tradition is clear that when a government falls on a non-confidence motion, we go back to the polls.

In any event, any situation where such a coalition is possible, it is very likely that the Liberals would form a minority government anyway.

  30. Read Adam Radwanski’s posts at G&M on the Dion speech today…he concurs with the Paikin post that the room was all Libs, and that Dion could have stood on the stage and pee’s and wouldn’t lose a vote in that crowd!
Jo..I NEED details on the dion/Mansbridge thing..my sat.dish went out with a storm we are having and I’m dying to know!

  31. Came in half-way through Peter Mansbridge interview with Stephane Dion. The one question I wanted answered was how would Stephane Dion collect firearms from the criminal element once the ban was in effect? Stephane Dion did not answer the question!

  32. Oh Sammy. I can’t even begin to describe the a$% he made of himself. I just hope there will be a repeat or that it will be online.

He refused to answer so many questions that Mansbridge seemed to be getting very irritated/bemused/annoyed that he just gave up.

If Canadians vote this guy in as PM, I will probably stop blogging because I just couldn’t take it.

  33. I missed it! Darn! I’m on the same page as Sammy here…eagerly awaiting the Youtube video!

  34. Has anyone noticed the audience at some of Dion’s events?
I caught the beginning of one of his appearances today and as the camera panned over the applauding audience there wasn’t a smile on the face of any of them.
    Some looked downright bored.
Meanwhile, Dion was onstage acknowledging the applause with his own tight-lipped smile causing him to look more smug than usual.
    NeilD

  35. I also just finished watching Dion. Pathetic, if Canadians think this man can lead us through difficult economic times, then I give up. If Dion becomes Prime Minister then he needs to take Peter Mansbridge with him to Ottawa to coach him on how to answer questions. Is this the best the Liberal Party of Canada can come up with? This is what Canadians in Toronto vote for!!WOW unbelievable.

  36. I am beyond exasperation. I think I will sign off for the night. I can’t believe the polling is showing the remote possiblity that Mr. Bean could be PM.

Honestly, I’ll take Layton over him. No question.

  37. Holy massive paranoid delusions Wilson!

Maybe you should can the fearmongering. Did Dion say he would govern in a coalition with Duceppe?

  38. I was able to catch some of the Mansbridge-Dion one-on-one on CBC. thanks for the tip, Joanne.

To say ‘the prospect of Dion as PM and leading this country’ is just about the scariest thought I can recall in my life, would be a vast understatement!

Stephane Dion is so out of touch with the general population it is comical. I have great respect for our academic community, but clearly Dion has never come up for air. He evaded almost all the questions posed by ‘everyday Canadians’ via video feed, and Peter Mansbridge was much more charitable than I would have been, letting him off the hook.
To his credit, Peter did try his best to get Dion off his soapbox dissing Harper, and back to the question, but to little avail.

I have complete faith that anyone seeing this interview will NOT vote Liberal, if they care a lick about the future of this country.

  39. Calgary Junkie Says:
    October 8th, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Tonights Ekos poll has us at 34 to the Libs 25.

“Mr. Donolo said polling of the 45 key battlegrounds indicates that if the vote were held now, the Liberals would lose almost all of the 17 close-race ridings they won in 2006, while the Tories would make some gains.”

“Many voters aged 50 or 55 and above, especially those with middle and upper incomes - $60,000 and up -have been switching from Conservative to Liberal.”

That is un-friggin-believable ! Somebody making $60,000+ thinks a Liberal govt is going to cause the market to go up ?!

  40. People lie to pollsters.

  41. Dion was more slippery than an eel…Canadians demand answers Dion..you say the economy is tanking (it isn’t..) and you plan to fix it.(how?)

You have nothing in the way of a plan. You fear monger without justification and may just help cause a dip in the market.

    Shame on you.

  42. For those that missed the Dion/Mansbridge interview, CBC are running it again this evening. It will be on Newsworld at 10 pm on the west coast. Check local listings at cbc.ca.

  43. Alberta Girl Says:
    October 8th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

I have been screaming at the TV on late MDL!!! What the H*LL is Craig Oliver making the kind of statements he made tonight. He has absolutely no business saying Harper didn’t get it. I challenge everyone to go to his blog and tell him that he is the one who doesn’t get it. Remind him of the year end interview - remind him of everything the Tories have done. Remind him that the Prime Minister must appear confident in this crisis, remind him that he is supposed to be non-biased.

This election has become a joke and I truly believe that the media is telling Canadians how to vote.

  44. “He evaded almost all the questions posed by ‘everyday Canadians’ via video feed…”

You know Harper refused to participate at all if he had to face questions from “everyday Canadians”, right? He was the only leader to refuse.

  45. I lie to pollsters… in fact, I’ve lied to Nanos and Reid… several times.

  46. Alberta Girl Says:

“You know Harper refused to participate at all if he had to face questions from “everyday Canadians”, right? He was the only leader to refuse.”

    link please?

  47. “You know Harper refused to participate at all if he had to face questions from “everyday Canadians”, right? He was the only leader to refuse.”

That’s too bad. I hope he reconsiders. Do you have a link or a referral? I’d like to read the story behind it.

  48. Keith Boag just called out a LIE that paul Martin said at the big Dion speech today, when he said there was a deficit…Keith states:there is NO deficit.Maybe, just maybe, the msm are getting to realize they’ve been had!

  49. I guess I am not surprised you do not watch CBC. Mansbridge announced that on Monday and yesterday before the segment where he interviewed Harper. If you can find a link to the news either day you can hear it for yourself.

All you really have to do is watch the interviews - all the leaders took questions but Harper.

  50. jad:

that’s 2:00 am in the Maritimes; not much help for me

Could someone with the wherewithal please tape this and put the video on the web?

  51. We are polling our riding. For my short list tonight I simple asked “Will you be supporting our CPC candidate?”

    Yes 6
No 5 (only 1 said they were voting Lib)
    Undecided 6

…and a whole lot of numbers not in service….

  52. You got some facts to back that up?

  53. You know what’s happening don’t you? Dion, taking his tips from Martin is doing and saying anything to get votes. If most households ran their finances like Dion wants to run our country…..they’d be bankrupt in no time soon.

You can’t be all things to all people.

  54. Rebroadcast is on right now.

Dion was asked by an aerospace worker in Alberta if he would delay the Greenshift considering the economic climate and the fact that workers are worried about their jobs out there.

Answer: Non. It would be in the 2009 budget.

  55. I wonder what Finance Minister Bob Rae will say about that?

  56. Why don’t the Conservatives have more ads out right now going after Dion? I thought that they’d have lots to choose from? What are they waiting for?

    Dion to hang himself maybe?

  57. Some local videos from the Soo race are available at youtube.com/user/cross4mp . The mayor came out in support of Cameron yesterday. Some people were surprised as he as reputed to lean toward the Liberals. The NDP are getting worried. The have managed to getr Micheal more in town (yes the Micheal Moore of Sicko infamy) and he was to be canvassing door to door with Tony Martin tonight.

  58. Here is the video from Mansbridge and dion. People really need to see what they are getting with this arrogant , foolish man. I posted it on my site. maybe Hunter can turn it into youtubes.

  59. Here is something a bit encouraging the new daily EKOS poll is out. http://www.ekoselection.com/index.php/2008/10/daily-tracking-october-8-2008/

    Conservatives 35
    Liberals 24
    NDP 20
    Greens 11
    BQ 10

  60. Thank’s Roy. It’s too late to watch it now I’ll have to watch it tomorrow. Goodnight everyone. Here’s hoping it looks better in the morning.

  61. I notice on CBC national tonight that they cut the banking question to Dion. He did not even understand and Peter mansbridge basically answered it.
The MSM are presenting an empty shirt to be our next Prime Minister. CTV National was one big promotion for the Liberal Party. I would say that David Smith’s wishing upon a star has been granted by Craig Oliver and CTV. They will all be joining Elizabeth May in the Senate.

  62. I agree Fay; the CTV National News with Lloyd Robertson all but crowned Dion as the winner and next Prime Minister. They could hardly contain their glee, and Craig Oliver is a total idiot!

  63. If Canadians vote this guy in as PM, I will probably stop blogging because I just couldn’t take it.

Ha Joanne, that is a good one…
Remember everyone, we have never lost the lead (in the polling) since this election started…. the opposition is trying on a bit of their dreamworld.

Hype is rampant. Stephen Harper has already proven to Canadians that he can manage the country. He is continuing on regardless of what the press decides to publish, as always.

I wish I had seen the interview Joanne, I could not stay awake and was not going to force myself to watch “hype” - acccch wouldn’t you know I would miss a good one.

    Go PMSH Go!!!!!!!

  64. Thank you frmgrl for your link which I have used and given you credit for, as well as a link back to Joanne here.

    Believe !! Keep the faith.

  65. Dr. Roy, thanks for the link to the Dion interview. You’re right. He is an arrogant, foolish man and he doesn’t listen very well at all. He says he has a hearing problem, but really it’s a listening problem - he thinks he knows it all.

This is very, very scary. We need to get this out there!

  66. [...] I have to give credit to Peter Mansbridge for not giving Dion a free pass. He was as hard-hitting with Dion as he was with Harper. I plan to dissect the interview here later today. We started last night on a previous post. [...]

  67. BTW, yesterday was a bit of a record here at BLY, with over 5,000 hits in one day! (And over 3,500 unique visitors.)

Thanks very much to everyone (especially SDA!) ;)

  68. I hope PMSH using the words Prime Minister Dion will be a wake up call for voters.
    The Economist supports PMSH.
The green voters being told to vote liberal is proof that PMSH and Layton were right to try and deny her a spot in the debates. Notice Dions refused to answer if she would have a spot in his government.
It will be years before the truth of the pacts and deals made prior to the election between the libs/greens/ndp come out. When it does all those voters who fell for the lies will say, don’t blame me.
My take is that canadians might decide they don’t want honest government or sound leadership. Does this mean they live very dishonest lives themselves and will cheat the govt re taxes, or their employer by slacking off on the job, or keep the extra change when a mistake is made by a cashier and oh so many other ways. Considering how many witnesses fail to come forward, or report suspicious behaviour, makes me wonder.
Polls are looking up for us. Let us hope the words PM Dion is enough to wake us all up. Get out and vote.
