Prime Minister Dion?

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Get used to it, Canada. Polls show that you’re falling for the ABC campaign. But be careful what you wish for.

Roger Smith just said on MDL that Stephane Dion has his transition team ready to go.

It’s just a matter of waiting for the formality of an election now. Are YOU ready for Prime Minister Dion?

Now, that’s scary.

And I would suggest that the NDP change their tactics pronto. The keys to Stornoway are looking rather remote right now.

Update: The MDL clip is up now.

Stephane Dion said today that he ‘expects to be Prime Minister’ and he had his transition team in place. At Much Music he was referring to himself as the Prime Minister and to his wife as the ‘First Lady’!!!

… or does anyone else think it’s rather strange that Andrew Telegdi has donated to Elizabeth May’s campaign? (Record):

Liberal Andrew Telegdi (Kitchener-Waterloo) amused his challengers by repeatedly citing Green Party leader Elizabeth May.

"I sometimes get confused as to who his leader is," Braid quipped.

"Elizabeth May is a friend," Telegdi responded. "I even donated money to her campaign."

This was too much for Cathy MacLellan, Green candidate in Kitchener-Waterloo.

"Even though Andrew is in love with Elizabeth May, and wants her to be his leader, she is my leader," MacLellan said.

"I’ll appreciate any donations to my campaign."

So, could it actually be a case of leader-envy? Is Andrew in the wrong party?

Think hard, Canada!

Update : Political leadership in uncertain global economic times - Michael Bliss (Hill Times) :

Historian Michael Bliss says there has been no other time in Canadian history that political leaders have seen such a serious economic crisis break in the midst of a federal election campaign, but he believes Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s "less activist approach" is the winning leadership message in these economically uncertain times…

This article also by Michael Bliss is also well worth reading - Financial meltdown is all in the attitude (Post):

…It’s too simple to blame the global credit crisis and its consequences on covens of greedy bankers, incompetent regulators or do-nothing politicians. The fundamental cause of the enormous debt bubble of our times is firmly rooted in the way post-industrial societies evolved in the last half of the 20th Century. After the Second World War, values based on thrift and savings were gradually replaced by a culture of having it all. Now that culture is in danger of cracking up…

National Post endorses Harper Majority!

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

MSM tends to be mainly liberal in editorial bias. And so it is refreshing and encouraging to read these words in today’s Post:

…Next week’s vote will determine whether Canada’s tax system is overhauled through the imposition of a massive levy on carbon-based fuels; the nature of our continuing presence in Afghanistan; and how our government will respond to the historic meltdown unfolding in financial markets. Faced with these high stakes, we believe, Canada would be best served if Stephen Harper’s Conservative government were to receive a second mandate, this time in majority form…

…This brings us to the main reason why we cannot endorse the Liberals. Putting aside Stephane Dion’s reflexive leftward tilt on everything from foreign affairs to social issues, his "Green Shift" carbon-tax scheme is, by itself, enough to persuade us that he is the wrong man to be running this country. As our banking and financial-services sectors become strained by the worldwide credit crunch, this country is increasingly dependant on our oil and gas sector to sustain us through rough waters. Yet these are exactly the industries Mr. Dion wants to soak….

Please read the whole thing. And if you agree, please support the National Post because there are very few MSM voices left in Canada that can even hope to balance the Liberal stronghold on most of the others.

It is crucial for the health of our democracy.

As for anyone who still clings to the notion that Dion is the man to support, please just sit back and ponder the scene of Prime Minister Dion sitting down with President Obama for a crucial discussion on the survival of our mutual economies where every word and nuance is vital, and the need to be clearly understood is paramount.
