You might have missed the scuffle last night on MDL Prime Time. Duff interviewed Elizabeth May at an All-Candidates’ Debate in Antigonish, after he had talked to Peter MacKay. Lizzie was not happy with the way Mike was doing his job:
"Mike Duffy, I think your question on the way you set it up to uh, Peter MacKay constitutes a significant violation of journalistic ethics. I think you have to uh, go back to how you started and try to frame me as out to lunch. What I said was in this debate and what Green Party policy is that we have to renegotiate NAFTA in the interest of Canadians and the interest of Canadian energy security.
You and I go back a long time. I like you enormously but I think that had to be called out. That was simply not an appropriate way to frame the discussion or frame the question…"
( . . . )
"… and I honestly felt I needed to say that the introduction to your interview with Peter MacKay was based on falsehoods. And I don’t think that that’s the way that people want to watch Mike Duffy Live. They want to know what I really said…"
(As always, I have transcribed this as best as I can. The clip is not on the CTV site.)
Elizabeth May is quite the woman, isn’t she? She’s leader of the Green Party and she is also an expert adviser on running major network news shows.
Seriously though, I was worried about poor Duff. If it were me, the old blood pressure would have been through the roof!
Don’t take it personally, Duff. We love ya!
There are a few links up now detailing the Tory platform as announced by PM Stephen Harper at noon, which includes modest new spending proposals.
At a press conference following the announcement, Harper was asked about his seeming lack of emotion or empathy regarding the current financial crisis. I don’t have the exact words yet but his answer was something along the line that a Prime Minister has to retain an appearance of control and confidence and that he can’t run around like Puffin Little (my analogy). Doing anything else would be irresponsible.
When more links are available, I will post them.

Here we go, folks! National Post is on it - Conservative Party Platform. I will never cancel my Post subscription. Never.
Also, please check out Inkless Wells - Verbatim, Jim Flaherty… (H/T Glenn in Waterloo)
Stephen Taylor has the whole platform posted on ipaper - complete with pics! Very cool.
Last night a loyal reader emailed me about an interesting comment that Mike Duffy made on his ‘Prime’ show last night at 8. Fortunately I had recorded the show so I reviewed it this morning.
What was Duff trying to tell us when he was discussing the Scotiabank announcement that they are forecasting a recession for Canada?
"Well, I find it amazing that a week to go before the election, they feel it important to put this out at this time, and when one considers the political leanings of some of the people at the top levels of that bank, I wonder if it wasn’t done on purpose to help Liberals scare some of that NDP vote back to the Liberals. .."
(Transcript from my own notes, therefore I may have a word or two out of place.)
We already know that a high-ranking ‘expert’ from another bank, who often appears on MDL has endorsed Dion’s Carbon Tax.
Are there any Canadian banks out there without Liberal leanings?

Welcome SDA readers!
Why is MSM ignoring the ever-evolving story of Stephane Dion’s apparent plagiarism of a speech given by Dr. Robert Corell to the U.S. Senate committee chaired by John McCain? Trusty Tory broke it yesterday with the assistance of Paulsstuff’s excellent detective work. I thought this would be all over the news today.
As far as I can see, MSM is largely ignoring the story. The only news site to pick it up seems to be Macleans, and Kady O’Malley is doing her best to minimize the damage for her favourite party.
After reading the follow-up post by Trusty Tory, I am inclined to agree with his first commenter: It’s time to drop Macleans from my subscription list. I don’t support the Liberal party so why would I make a donation there?
Excuse me while I go rip up my renewal notice.

Update: Lowell Green is covering this story now. Listen live. (H/T Trusty Tory)
Stephane Dion gets away with being a copycat - Russ Campbell’s Blog . (Is anyone worried about our democracy here, when MSM is so decidedly biased? And then we have Elections Canada telling Liberals to take down Conservative signs. Check out Stephen Taylor for that one. And this is a free country?)
Some MSM finally getting on the bandwagon, but not in print:

Stephen Taylor - A debunking by Kady? I’m sorry, I just don’t see it.
Lots to talk about today, so I’ll probably do a series of shorter posts.
You can start your morning with this stomach-turning piece of garbage from Margaret Atwood, the outraged Canadian writer who is begging for more of our tax-dollars, while supporting the separatists:
…Doesn’t Mr. Harper understand that some kids have lethal allergies? Doesn’t he understand that parents want to know what goes into their children’s mouths? We need to be able to trust our food! Mothers, don’t let Stephen Harper kiss your baby: you don’t know what kind of germ-packed, death-dealing cold-cuts he’s just been eating, and his ingredients are not on the label….
And aren’t good writers supposed to try to avoid clichés?
‘Secret agenda’? ‘Bush’? ‘Neocons’?
C’mon, Margaret. You can do better than that! Anyway, I think you forgot ‘Mike Harris’.
Good grief. This woman makes Elizabeth May look like she’s on tranquilizers.
