Kindred Spirits

Stephane Dion says he has a hearing problem.

Elizabeth May now says she has a speaking problem. (Prime Time MDL via TVO just now.) She says her problem is that she speaks too fast and people might misunderstand what she says.

Who knew?

John Bennett is now explaining things on MDL. I sure hope CTV has this clip online.

Duff just said Lizzy’s inteview with TVO will be repeated tonight at 11:00. Please check it out and compare the two stories.

Duff appears to be a bit miffed that the Greens seem to be annoyed about face time on his show.

Of course, in deference to Mr. Bennett who seems to have an issue with bloggers, I will say that this is all reported from the broadcast. Let’s hope we can get some links.

Here’s some advice though, Ms. May. If you want to be part of the big leagues, you have to be ready to play by the rules. Trying to intimidate bloggers is a strange tactic for a party that’s so focused on democracy and trying to break through the status quo.

Bottom line - Lizzy May swears she said "I fundamentally disagree with that assessment.. (that Canadians are stupid)"

Her spokesman said she said "I fundamentally agree…", but she was referring to something else.

Unless of course, I having a hearing or typing problem…

  1. Dion, May, Layton, Duceppe and all of their respective party followers all suffer from Leftist Mental Disorder, their other problems pale in comparison.

Is this a reverse corporate takeover? The Greens taking over the LPC?

  3. She says agree, not disagree and she says I not they. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter, because I fundamentally disagree with everything they say. I notice they are dropping in the polls, not getting any boost from May’s exposure. They might want to rethink being in the debate.

  4. For a real tally of the pitiful showing for Dion’s green shift tour, read the latest post (from the Lib.plane) by Don Martin now up at Bourque (under the photo of plane) It’s interesting, that by sounds of things, the ‘reporters’ touring with this campaign, now seem to be trying to get Dion’s msg out for him,as he’s failing miserably.Keep a close listen to Lisa La Flamme whenever she’s reporting…blatant lib. campaigning

  5. While watching MDL prime tonight I thought we might have another episode like the John Duffy one of 2006. The Duff was getting a little ticked at John Bennett for interrupting him while he was speaking. Then Duff said “I know what I heard and I’ll leave it at that”.

  6. Elizabeth May is certifiable — I know know why Harper and Layton didn’t want her in the debate; they weren’t afraid of her gaining votes - they are terrified she will show herself to be the complete whack job she is and that most Green votes will flee in horror; the Liberals may get some of them.

I saw the tail end of John Bennett’s interview with the old Duff. It was clear that he did piss Duff off and Duff was in his own way letting him know that. I have to say the Mr. Bennett came off looking bad in what I saw of him. He threatens one blogger with a lawsuit and smears another; he speaks for TVO without their knowledge and then seems to have gone after one of Duff’s producers, yet Steffi is not yelling at May to fire him and May obviously condones his erratic behaviour as she has said little about it and obviously has no intention of reprimanding or suspending him. The double standard on the left always amazes me. These gaffes register merely a blip in comparison to the coverage that the Conservatives have had to deal with in the MSM. Just once I would like to see a balanced and fair approach to reporting from the journalists in this country.

  8. “While watching MDL prime tonight …”

Oh, pretty please, tell me how to access that.
I can access the 5:00 pm edition on the CTV site, although the last segment I believe is usually not shown (?)
But where can I watch the later edition? Thanks.

  9. It’s on CTV Newsnet Gabby, the 24/7 news channel.

”Her spokesman said she said “I fundamentally agree…”, but she was referring to something else.
Unless of course, I having a hearing or typing problem…”

That’s what I hear too, they each told a different story……coverup!, well, that’s what the story would be if it was a Conservative gaff.

I thought Buckdog was a Dipper? Bennett called him a Conservative blogger.

  10. ” thought Buckdog was a Dipper? Bennett called him a Conservative blogger.”

Bennett had enough communication with him for this to NOT be an accident. His blog has an “I Don’t Care For Stephen Harper” link right at the top. No one corrected Bennett?

  11. Thanks, Wilson!

I don’t have that on my cable grid, so I’ll have to do without.

(With tongue firmly planted in my cheek I say the following . . .)

Maybe the reason that we are hearing about disabilities now is to garner our sympathy and make us feel like mean and nasty people for voting against a poor disabled person. We should be ashamed of ourselves, picking on someone who is at a disadvantage because of their problem. PMSH is nothing but a bully and he is being mean by speaking clearly when poor Stephie has to talk like his mouth is full of talcum powder. It’s not Lizzie’s fault she talks a mile a minute and can’t pause to start her brain before putting her mouth in gear. We should all be forced to apologize and vote Liberal just so that they feel better.

Well said, Glenn. The big story here is how a blogger was threatened by the spokeman for a party leader who calls herself The Underdog.

So the ‘Underdog’ went after ‘Buckdog’.

The Greens bit themselves in the butt here though because of the way it was handled. Partisan bloggers have never been so united in their outrage.

This is the last frontier of free speech and frankly, bloggers are getting really fed up with being threatened with lawsuits.

  14. Gabby, earlier in the week the CTV site was posting video clips from MDL Primetime, which is what they are calling the 8 pm segment.

Sadly, it seems that they’ve stopped doing that the last few days. Some of the interviews were really good. It’s a pity.

I’ve got yesterday’s clip recored on my old VCR, so I’ll have to review it.

The disconnect between what May says on TVO by way of an explanation, and what Bennett said on MDL, is really quite amazing. It’s almost as if they hadn’t discussed it and had each come up with their own spin.

Oh please don’t sue me, Mr. Bennett! I am only a lowly blogger with a hearing issue.

  15. Bennett had enough communication with him for this to NOT be an accident. His blog has an “I Don’t Care For Stephen Harper” link right at the top. No one corrected Bennett?

Buckdog/Leftdog is quite upset about being called a Conservative supporter!

  16. The best thing about May now playing with the big boys, is that she too falls under intense scrutiny from media, public and blog world.

Interesting that both May and Dion claim a physical weakness at this most opportune time. I agree with the person above who suggests it’s a sympathy ploy.

Our mission now is to find a candidate with a vision problem….then we’ll have a matched set.

    Hear no evil………Dion
    Speak no evil……..May
    See no evil………._______________

I’m waiting for the cartoon of this.

  17. Sol, Diane Finley has a vision problem, but she’s not a party leader!

  18. Joanne, I watched May’s interview with Steve Paikin (whom I find really good) and was bowled over by May’s ‘truthiness’ (see Stephen Colbert). I wrote up a comment over at Stephen Taylor’s (still awaiting moderation) so I won’t repeat it here.

But thanks for that link at Stephen’s. It worked so well, without the usual stop & start I get when links are provided elsewhere.

  19. Listening to Rad-Can and just heard a funny exchange:
the reason Stephane Dion’s campaign plane had some trouble getting off the ground was that he insisted on installing solar panels on it, and the weight was too much … yeah, and the batteries, the batteries …

  20. Gabby - too funny about the plane!

I just reviewed my recording of Paikin’s interview from last night. I played the clip of the “stupid” exchange several times. I only hear her say two syllables - ‘agree’. Not three as in ‘dis’agree.

Someone is not just challenged in her speech. She is ‘truthiness’ challenged as well.

But why the disconnect between May and her spokesman in this?

Looking forward to reading your comment at Stephen Taylor’s, Gabby.

  21. While you’re waiting with bated breath to read my comment, Joanne ;-)

If you want a light-hearted look at the election, take a look at these caricatures from French newspapers, especially #’s 3 and 17.
    # 3: “rigadon” is a kind of dance, “tournant vert” the French version of “Green Shift”

P.S. I regret I bought tickets to a play a while ago … I’ll have to be separated from the computer for a while today … life’s so cruel sometimes.

  22. John Bennett may be a very nice man with a very short leash, or he may just be an extremely unpleasant individual, as it takes quite a lot to tick off the Duff.

But John Bennett is the COMMUNICATIONS Director for the Green Party. Why doesn’t someone ask Ms. May why she keeps a rapid pit bull to be in charge of communicating the Green Party message. This guy is about as unprofessional as I have ever seen.

I think one good thing about May being involved in the debates is that there is a little more light being shone on her and how she does business.

  23. Sorry, should be ” rabid pit bull”

Ah woe is me, I’m getting careless in my doddering ol’ age …

On the other hand, I see I have been singled out by Liberal at 10:17 am.

I’m overwhelmed. (S)he noticed me! My day is now worth living!

  26. Joanne, I posted the link that I forgot to provide in the comment above at 9:58 am, but it got caught in the filter.

Steve Fletcher running for the CPC in Winnipeg has the “real” disability problem and he sure makes out ok.

    A candidate of courage!!

Charleswood - St. James - Assiniboia

Steven Fletcher was first elected to the House of Commons in 2004 and re-elected in 2006. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Health in February 2006. Previously, he served as the Official Opposition Critic for Health and was a member of the Standing Committee on Health.

Prior to his election, Mr. Fletcher worked as an engineer in the mining industry until an automobile collision with a moose left him paralyzed from the neck down. Afterwards, he returned to university where he obtained a Master’s in Business Administration. Mr. Fletcher was twice elected president of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba and has played a leading role in many community organizations.

He is also the recipient of Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee Medal, the King Clancy Award and is a Terry Fox Hall of Fame inductee. He is the first permanently disabled Canadian to be elected to the House of Commons.

He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1972, and he lives in Winnipeg.

  28. Thanks for the Cyberpresse link, Gabby. That was great! Enjoy the play. Good to get away from politics for a while.

“Liberal” is a CC reader. Glad to see I still manage to grab their attention once in a while.

  29. Teddi, really good point about Steve Fletcher. He is an amazing person.

  30. “Enjoy the play.”
    Thanks, Joanne.

    ““Liberal” is a CC reader.”
That explains his eloquence … so articulate, such trenchant wit …

  32. Joanne,I found interesting post at Nat.Post (Full Comment blog) by Jonathan Kay,and am wondering WHY the msm hasn’t picked up on this:
Dion needs money badly.Anyone got a dime to spare so he doesn’t blow another Elections Canada deadline?
    From the column:
You’d think a scandal hungry national media would be interested.
The deal (with EC) The first payment comprising of 1/3 principal, and interest (or $230,000) became due Sept.3/08.that date came and went with no announcement.
Did he pay?And why are there no questions from Roger Smith,or Ms.La Flamme travelling with the Dion campaign???

  33. I was listening to the Roy Green show today. A caller mentioned that Elizabeth May called Canadians stupid. Roy said he hadn’t heard about that. A few minutes later, he played a tape of her saying it. A few minutes later, he said his staff dug around some more, and found out it was a fake and apologized to her. A few minutes later, he said that there are two sides to this and he will talk about it tomorrow. He said he will try to have May on his show to address this tomorrow.

I like Roy and enjoy his show, but how could he not have heard about this?

    Did anybody else hear it?

  34. Keep a VERY close eye on Bob Fife reporting on PMSH in Nfld, and the danny Williams Arrogant Blowhard Clown (ABC) campaign.Fife reporting just few min.ago, was stunned by what he is hearing ‘on the ground’ from regular Nfld folk,on Williams campaign of fear and intimidation.People threatened to lose Gov’t contracts, ruined businesses etc if they go anywhere near a cons.candidate to help out in any way…especially Fabian Manning’s camp.Says Williams has gone too far!
To affirm what Bob was saying…to the VERY sceptical Jac.Milczarek (LIB)..he put former Fisheries Min.Jim Morgan on live by ph…and Morgan states that Williams is indeed running a fear/intimidation/telling people who to vote for campaign. As well, his ‘toadies’ in Gov’t are helping.
JM (ctv host/LIB)..asked:’What’s wrong with that?’
“IF it’s true…and we can’t verify that!”…she then cuts Fife off to go live to dion in BC..gives Dion full coverage, then she provides extensive coverage/translation of latest Dion promises,as well as lists off all prev.offers!Very favorable to Dion.
We go live to PMSH speech…Jac.cuts it off…Fife is back with more on Williams and stresses ‘if this is true..and no reason to doubt the regular Joes, this is VERY serious, and needs to be investigated thoroughly.’Fife feels msm should be on this big-time! We’ll see.
Jac.looks sceptical again..gives mini wrap up of excellent PMSH speech…very dismissive..to commercial.
In second part of Fife’s interview,he was more specific about people being contacted(that have Gov’t contracts) and been outright told, they would lose them, business ruined.
Rex Murphy had excellent column on Williams today..and I’m thinking the cbc will end up with some serious egg on their faces for showing Danny’s rant over and over, assisting in this asinine, dangerous tactic.Oh yeah,Fife likened this to a tactic more like something you would see in Zimbabwe.

  35. Sammy, thanks for all that about Bob Fife’s reports from Nfld. If you find any links, please pass them on. Thanks.

  36. Barbara, I sure did hear about it.

  37. Sammy, I’ll check that out. Thanks for the tip.

  38. Jo,Stephen taylor has a post up from earlier in wk,but I note someone posted on what I said earlier…so it wasn’t my poor old hearing.Asking EC to look into Williams. One can hope!

  39. oops..taylor post titled “Oh Danny boy” what else????

  40. Sammy, did you check out that song at Taylor’s site? Mrs. Harper better watch out! ;)

  41. Joanne, I also listened to this. Robert Fife is trying to get the story out and Milzcarek was trying to block it.
It looks like Robert Fife won out because there is link up at CTV.new.net.
I say Thankyou to robert Fife for standing up for Democracy in Newfoundland. He talks about Danny Williams climate of fear. Hopefully CTV will expose Danny Williams .

  42. Isn’t it illegal to sell, swap, intimidate, or buy a persons vote. EC should be all over Danny Williams over his effort to imtimidate his population. What happened to the secret ballot in NFLD. He asked his caucus to tell him how they were voting.
Let’s hope NFLD voters rebel against him, like the voters in the US are rebelling against the biased media. I have also heard that he has threatened contracts, jobs, promotions etc. He has gone over the top, and perhaps needs a mental examination. And he has threatened to take his campaign across Canada.
    Forget it.
