Stephane Dion says he has a hearing problem.

Elizabeth May now says she has a speaking problem. (Prime Time MDL via TVO just now.) She says her problem is that she speaks too fast and people might misunderstand what she says.

Who knew?

John Bennett is now explaining things on MDL. I sure hope CTV has this clip online.

Duff just said Lizzy’s inteview with TVO will be repeated tonight at 11:00. Please check it out and compare the two stories.

Duff appears to be a bit miffed that the Greens seem to be annoyed about face time on his show.

Of course, in deference to Mr. Bennett who seems to have an issue with bloggers, I will say that this is all reported from the broadcast. Let’s hope we can get some links.

Here’s some advice though, Ms. May. If you want to be part of the big leagues, you have to be ready to play by the rules. Trying to intimidate bloggers is a strange tactic for a party that’s so focused on democracy and trying to break through the status quo.

Bottom line - Lizzy May swears she said "I fundamentally disagree with that assessment.. (that Canadians are stupid)"

Her spokesman said she said "I fundamentally agree…", but she was referring to something else.

Unless of course, I having a hearing or typing problem…

Why all or nothing?

Friday, September 12th, 2008

I hesitate to mention Afghanistan as an election issue, because there are eyes and ears out there that are carefully watching this election and stepping up the assault on our soldiers in order to try to influence the outcome.

However, I have to ask Canadians this: If Harper’s announcement that the troops will pull out in 2011 was  offensive to you, where will you park your vote in protest?  There is no other champion in Parliament that I’m aware of.  The Bloc and NDP want the combat portion over yesterday, and the Liberals only support it to 2011 as was agreed in Parliament.

Parents of fallen soldiers can blame Harper if they like, but they really should be blaming Parliament as a whole.

Meanwhile via Daimnation, we have this very reasonable proposal of a compromise position at The Torch:

Thinking outside the bun. Why essentially all or nothing? Keep the mission as is or basically bug out? Surely there might be other military possibilities.

Propose to NATO keeping a CF presence at Kandahar/Kandahar . But get out of the ground combat role. Ask other NATO members to take on that mission whilst the CF’s role becomes mainly an Air Force one…

We need to show a united front.  MSM should be careful about using ‘gaffes’ to ratchet up the rhetoric and divisiveness on this issue. There could be a human cost.

Obviously politicians and strategists should also use discretion here.

Everything else is fair game.

Here is an example from our neighbours to the south to help us remember who is the real enemy.
