May against the Old Boys’ Club

OMG.

The Green Party’s Jim Harris is on CTV right now announcing legal action for Lizzy to join the Leaders’ debate.

They’re making it a woman against all the men issue. (As well as having their floor-crossing MP on board, of course.)

Harris sites this editorial by Chantel Hebert as evidence that the Tories and NDP ‘fear’ Elizabeth May.

Developing.

CNews
Update.

O.K. Here we have the CTV link. Check this out:

Harris also noted that as the only female party leader, May has an additional right to be included in the debates

What????

More CTV newsnet discussions - Scott Brison is on CTV just now (noon) saying Premier Rodney MacDonald is lying to Nova Scotians regarding the Green Shift.  I hope the interview ends up on Newsnet.

(Note: Comments were accidentally turned off until now. )

2:30 pm Update: The other half of the Red Green Show is on CTV Newsnet right now. Dion is speaking to his ‘enthralled’ caucus.  Oh, this is cute - ‘Tory times are tough times.’ Better tell that to Dalton McGuinty. He must have changed parties.

Oh boy, now he’s invoking Bush and Harris.  What a broken record.

Now he’s saying that Canadians need a government guided by ’science and facts’. I wonder what Robert Thibault would say about that?

This is painful. I can’t take anymore. You’re on your own, folks.

  1. It really seemed to me,that Brison…to use a Liberal slam against PMSH…looked ‘panicked’ and was way over the top!Hmmm, wonder if he’s feeling like his gravy-train is coming to a stop?
And dammit,we just lost 3 more young boys in Afghanistan…from my old home town of CFB Shilo.Breaks my heart, but what hurts more,is the loss of these brave souls will most likely be used in a partisan way in the election.RIP lads, and heartfelt sympathies to all the families.

  2. I have had the unfortunate experience of watching both Scott Brison and Todd( can’t remember last name) Liberal MP from Labrador vicuosly attack Stephen Harper on CTV Newsnet. Premier MacDonald put forth his opinion in a respectful manner.
I am beginning to wonder if all Liberal MPs in Atlantic Canada are Bullys and the citizens vote Liberal out of fear. Newfoundland certainly appears to fear Danny Williams. Is this how politics is done in Atlantic Canada?

  3. That would have been Todd russell Fay,I saw that interview as well.I learned a new Newfoundland word out of Todd’s little chat,’SLAVEEN’…he used it quite a few times in a derogatory way to refer to PMSH.Sounded like Toddy boy has been drinking the Danny Williams water!

  4. The left is in panic mode. There is blood in the water, and they are the ones bleeding.

Sincere thanx to this morning’s CTV NewsNet newscaster, [Indira, perhaps?]
She just let Labrador Liberal MP Todd Russell rant on and on. Looked like about 6 – 7 minutes of free political airtime, cycled round, every half hour. [Elections Canada take note, please.]
In response to queries re: Dion’s anticipated new and improved Green Shift DownShift, Russell just recycled the three sentences he remembered learning.
“Harper was a ‘slavine’[sp?]. The lowest form of life which any sane person would never let into one’s house. No lower life form than that existed.” Russell concluded. He gave me cause to consider.
Then I remembered the fine lads from Nfld. and Labrador, when we served together in the Canadian Army during the early sixties. They had a definition for something that was even worse than Russell’s ‘slavine.’
“Anyone,” they contended, “ who would once, or always, facilitate, uphold, support and empower a ‘slavine,’ was an even lower form of life. Something akin to a lick-spittle, arse-kissing, shit-eating, sequential coward and serial ‘slavine’-supporter.”
Nice to learn that Liberal MP Todd Russell knows his own place, as well as the place of his Liberal party, in that hierarchy of those slimy things that slither and crawl about on their bellies. For all that: Thankyew CTV.

  6. I do believe they’re called Sidewinders.

  7. Hear Hear!! TangoJuliette, Canadians need take note of the tone of debate tolerated by CTV. Shame!

  8. I knew that Ms. May would eventually get around to the “abused woman” card. Whenever I’ve seen/heard her interviewed, she hardly ever stops talking, and she’s usually trated deferentially, if not reverentially.
Her body language says ‘look at me, I’m just a little fragile woman standing up to the big boys’ but her sweet smile is camouflage for the venom she spews against Mr. Harper.

As I posted over at the Chantal Hebert column:
If anyone has any doubts about who would monopolize the time, interrupting the other leaders and the moderators of a debate, go watch the video of her in an interview with Politics’ Don Newman (Newsworld Tues. Sept 2).
Ms. May stated emphatically there are precedents like Preston Manning and Gilles Duceppe, whereas Ms. Hebert tells a different version.
Ms. May also claimed her party is “neck and neck” with the NDP, whereas polls indicate otherwise.
If Ms. May should be given time in the debates, it should be equivalent to the percentage her party gets in poll results: around 9%.

Thus, Conservatives should get about 37% of the time allotted, Liberals about 29-30%, and so on.

  9. Oops! that ‘trated’ should of course be ‘treated.’

  10. Wonder who taught who, the cnn witches re Sarah’s daughter, or ctv re PMSH. Both are way over the top.
I am afraid of any reporters covering PMSH during the election. Good news is that those covering PMSH will have to twist every word to make his out to be bad, and those covering Dion will have to translate and assume what he is saying to make him out to be a little teddy bear. Neither will be telling us the truth.

I know this sounds crazy………but please hear me out.

I think Harper (assuming he has influence or controls these matters), should let the Block, Libs, and Dips decide if May can join the debate…………wash your hands clean of the matter, put the pressure on the other parties. Then………Harper should not show up for the debate! Then CHALLENGE ALL LEADERS to seperate one-on-one debtes!!! That way they can’t tag team on him and make it a disaster. Is that too crazy? Too Draining for the Harp (and what music he plays!)? These groups are so out too lunch (left-wing radical “fundamentalists”) that them debating amongst themseleves would hopefully cause the greens and dips to increase from the libs members, the block will lose numbers to all the parties, the libs won’t gain very many. Then……….if Harper can debate them seperatly, he can show weaknesses in the other parties, have more time to put out his platform, show his leadership qualities (direct confrontation on the one-on-ones) hopefully get some votes, and create confusion for some supporting the other parties.

This can be justified by saying ……”the debate would quickly turn dysfunctional by the shear numbers and diverse opinions, I would rather let Canadians see how potential parties can handle compare to the current government”

If the parties seem reluctant to having this, Harper can put them on the spot by publicaly confronting them on this debate format, wheter they are for it or against it, lol. Too devish!!!

Sorry, I think I am drunk right now.

  12. As I sit watching May being interview by Duffy, I have to say that having her in the debate would be good news for Harper. The woman’s voice drives me nuts. Add her voice to Dion and Duceppe and all Harper has to do is stand back.

Duffy’s asking excellent questions which I don’t think May answered.

Oh my God and Iggy looked sick…really ill. Even his manner of speaking seemed pained. I got the impression that he didn’t believe what the stuff he was saying about the Green Shaft Tax.

Compare those images to a confident and much thinner Harper in Windsor and the contrasts are HUGE.

  13. Just watched Elizabeth May on MDL, and apparently her justification for the “deal” with Dion is that it is quite normal for parties not to run against other party leaders. For instance, quoth she, the Liberals did not run a candidate against Stephen Harper.

I hate to contradict her (heavy sarcasm) but in the last election, according to Wikipedia, a certain Michael Swanson ran for the Liberals, Holly Heffernan ran for the NDP, Kim Warnke ran for the Greens, Larry Heather ran for the CHP (??) and Logan Marshall ran for the Marijuana Party. My goodness, how ever did SH manage to scrape home in that crowded field.

But seriously, this is not rocket science. Why does no-one take her up on this point ?

  14. Now look at what you all have wrought. If Dion starts modifying the Green Shift, dribbling gifts a bit at a time, first to truckers, then to farmers, then to left-handed haberdashers, etc., who’s going to pay the freight?

    Middle-class maroons like myself.

    Thanks a load!

  15. Someone should ask Dion how much it costs to buy and replace a motor in an eighteen-wheeler.

    He hasn’t got a clue.

And it’s ironic he now announces subsidies for farmers under the shaft, following the news John Deere is closing the Canadian plant. wonder if it ever occurred to him tractor sales are down because it’s becoming increasingly hard for farmers to make a living. You know, those bad old ghg pollutin farmers he wants to tax.

  16. OK, I’m really confused. The Liberal’s announced a “star” candidate today.

Doing a search turns up this?

  17. Doing a search turns up this?

    Uh huh. Pretty exciting, eh?

  18. It turns up a lot of stuff. I’m just confused how he could be in such a serious accident August 24th, and on the stage today.

Unless it’s a different Bob Friesen
