So Palin’s daughter is pregnant. So what?

Well apparently this is a big deal to many in the news media.

Thoughts?

Politically I don’t think this will hurt Sarah Palin. If anyone tries to suggest that she should be home baking cookies instead of being a working Mom, they may be barking up the wrong tree.

Sarah Palin and her daughter are representative of today, U.S.A.   A lot of women are going to identify with these struggles.

Kudos to Sarah Palin and her daughter for choosing life.

And kudos to Obama for stating that this topic should not become political fodder. Or is he concerned that American women may be identifying with Palin even more so now?

Tuesday Update: Wow. I just found out that Lowell Green has me on his short list of recommended blogs. I feel very honoured! Sandy’s list of Harper Accomplishments is also listed.

Please check out Lowell’s post related to Bristol Palin - The Democrats are Going Nuts!

Obama says babies can be a punishment. "Don’t punish them with a baby."

Thursday Update:
Don’t miss David Warren’s thoughts about Sarah Palin!

Both angered by the attacks and worried it gives Sarah an edge.

  2. So, after Barrack Hussein Obama’s successful malicious attacks against Hillary’s readiness for high office, the extreme liberal, inexperience Democrat is now is using his extreme left wing bogs and the left wing media to expedite the predictable, even more vicious, inhuman and sadistic attacks on the VP candidate and her family.

While Barrack Hussein Obama pretended to issues public announcement to his “people”, no doubt he is watching the left-wing, bias media such as MSNBC, CNN any the NY Times, ect with a great deal of approval, appreciation and contentment.

We have already seen MSNBC and CNN’s far-left wing advocacy “reporters” and “bias analysis”begin the attack. Thanks to Bill Bennett for charging Wolf B and one of his far-left leaning, affirmative action bimbos for promoting “outrageous reports” bias against the VP.

Barack Hussein Obama has called off the dogs. He was born to a single parent of 18 years of age who engaged in an interracial relation all of which, is deamed irrelevant to the Obama camp after the initial smear which has carried little weight in the minds of Americans.

  4. so what is right. If it’s no big deal why the post Joanne?

    Tabloid time?

  5. Palin has made her career a priority and her child’s premarital sex and pregnancy is the result. How unloving of Palin to utterly devote herself to being VP at the expense of Trig and her grandchild. She is not as comitted to her children and grandchild as one would expect. This is not an attck. Just a factual recognition of her priorities.

  6. I don’t think there is the mother of a daughter out there (and from what I can tell not too many fathers either) who did not read that headline and think “there but for the grace of God ….”.

The stories about Palin’s “fake” pregnancy and the insinuations of incest are beyond disgusting.

And which is worse, a teenage pregnancy or a Presidential candidate who has a child by his mistress while his wife is suffering from cancer. But of course we can’t talk about John Edwards.

  7. If it’s no big deal why the post Joanne

I don’t know. Perhaps because it’s the topic du jour on CNN?

Sometimes I do a post to give readers a voice. If you aren’t interested, no need to comment.

  8. I’m seriously confused about this. Especially when I see posts like this one:

Palin has made her career a priority and her child’s premarital sex and pregnancy is the result. How unloving of Palin to utterly devote herself to being VP at the expense of Trig and her grandchild. She is not as comitted to her children and grandchild as one would expect. This is not an attck. Just a factual recognition of her priorities.

Judgemental bunch of folks, are we? Good thing the rest of us are perfect.

  9. Truer words were never spoken or written there but for the Grace of God go I, my daughter, son, neice, etc.
Didn’t Brittany Spears sister get major coverage when it was announce she was pregnant, and didn’t the birth get major coverage. At least the child will be allowed to live.
Wonder how many of those high and mighty shocked anchors have had to face this and maybe forced a different solution. And, no one in the family thinks the girl is being punished with a baby. Boy, have the democrats set a high standard for O’s girls in the future. We know what he and Michelle would do if it happened to their unmarried daughter.
It happened in our family and I have a very successful 26 yr old grandson.
If this doesn’t get the vote of all unmarried mothers I will be very surprised.

  10. aa,

Warn me when you get into full non-attack mode. That’ll give me time to duck.

So you think women with children who have a job outside the home are “unloving”. And yes, for Palin running for Veep is a job just as it is for her to be Governor.

Don’t you realize that most families have a man around and family responsibilities fall on the couple, not just the woman? And actually some have children old enough to help out.

Are you not aware of what has transpired in society in the last 40 years? The days of June Cleaver are over.

  11. American blogs are bringing up this comment from Obama - I guess you can tell where he’s coming from.

“Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

  12. don’t want them punished with a baby.”

    Wow. Just wow.

  13. I agree Joanne. So what?
Here’s what the Palins had to say about it:

“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.

“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.”

  14. Governor palin is doing the right thing and giving her daughter and her new grandchild her love and support. Life is precious, family is precious. Governor pallin shows that her family is what is fundamentally important.

  15. Politically I don’t think this will hurt Sarah Palin.

The only voters who might have their voting decision affected by this news are far-right social conservatives that are firmly in the Republican fold anyways. At worst, it might make some of them stay home, but it certainly wouldn’t switch anyone’s vote.

Alaska’s consent laws stands at 16. Though the circumstances are not ideal, it is by no means illegal, and the family is attempting to do the very best given the circumstances by offering support, and establishing a 2 parent home environment for the child.

Barack Hussein Omaba went on public record and disclosed that “he would not want his daughter punished with a baby”, indicating his position given a similar circumstance.

In addition, Barach Hussein Obama was born of a single mom who was 18 years of age when she delivered Barack.

it’s going to be difficult condemning his own mother and grandmother for a similar circumstance.

  17. Joanne - in your initial post you yourself question as to the “so what” nature of this as an issue and then suggest that it’s the media making hay of things, yet, you’re doing the exact same thing.

You suggest “if you aren’t interested no need to comment.”

I’m interested enough to comment that the double standard flag is being flown here. I’m sorry you don’t see that.

Families have been struggling with just this type of issue for generations. This just endears Palin to the grassroots even more.

  18. aa…Do you have children? I hope not…you are certainly lacking in parenting skills.Teen pregnancy happens to SAHM families and career families…where have you been hiding?Best parents just love and help the kids deal with the changes…as the Palin family is doing.
The left is probably more upset about the family sticking together and keeping the babies, instead of aborting both.

  19. Cowtown, social conservatives (and I count myself as one) are very pleased that she chose to have her baby rather than abort it. That fact alone makes up for the disappointment of finding out about a teen pregnancy. She chose life and that’s the most important thing here.

  20. I meant to add: I don’t think they lost ANY social conservative votes over this. And that’s because she made the right choice.

Gee aa - you are copying and pasting this all over the blogs - not sure what your point is??? Of course you never seem to come back to answer to your comment.

I guess you would put me into that same “not committed” and “unloving” because as a working mother, I also have lived through this same thing and now have a 15 year old granddaughter to show for my “utter devotion” to my career.

Watch out aa - karma has a way of coming back to bite those who get a little too high and mighty looking down on others who in their minds believe they have “recognized their priorities”.

I hope you find out the hard way that you can preach all you want but premarital sex has been around for millenia and you have no control over whether it will bring an unplanned pregnancy into your family or not.

  22. If O wins, and gets 2 terms, his daughters will be 17 and 14. Boy, will they be under the microscope. I truly feel sorry for them. I do also feel sorry for Sarah’s daughter, the media will beseige her with multimillion offers for the first pictures. Hope she turns them down. Wonder how many young girls are drooling over the pics of the father. (drudge)

Andrea Mrozek, in her superb article “The new face of feminism” published by National Post on September 03, 2008 http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=764723
    wrote,

“She’s unqualified. Anti woman. A “right-wing man in a skirt and fetching up-do.” Feminists went apoplectic when Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was chosen as Senator John McCain’s running mate. The same feminists who keep saying we must have more women in politics suddenly changed their minds. We need more women–just not that kind of woman.

How did we manage to get here? Different waves of feminism have rolled in since the suffragettes fought for the right to vote. Today, few are sure what feminism is. If all it means is the right of women to self-determination and to equal opportunity then virtually no one stands against it. That battle has already been won.

North American feminists should be working to extend the fundamental freedoms they enjoy to parts of the globe where such freedoms are absent. But instead, they pitch a package of partisan political beliefs at home. Their palette is left-wing and non-negotiable — especially the part about unrestricted access to, and, ideally, public funding for, abortion.

But the “choice” label is not something every woman wants.

In this very polarized context, it’s not surprising that only the very strongest of conservative and pro-life female politicians would rise to the top. It takes a lot of guts not only to stand up to the kind of sisterly abuse described above, but also to compete effectively in a traditionally male-dominated field. To those untainted by ideology, Sarah Palin is gritty determination personified. To establishment feminists, however, she’s a disaster.

Why? Two words: family values. She has five kids (which is at least four too many for a dogmatic, career-obsessed feminist) and she’s pro-life, even in cases of rape and incest. That she also insists on having the rewarding career that feminists wish they had themselves is just too much. It’s driving her feminist opponents around the bend — they now find themselves criticizing her for neglecting her children, which is more than a little rich coming from people who never tire of reminding mothers that staying at home to look after their children is a cardinal sin.”……….
