This post will be another hodgepodge of links and articles that caught my interest this morning. Too many to devote an individual post to each one, but I thought you might like to weigh in on a few. We’ll start with local and move outwards:
* * * *
(1) She’s ba-a-a-a-c-k in the news. Brenda Martin is planning to move to Waterloo Region. My first reaction was less than enthusiastic, but let’s put all that behind us and give her a fair shake as she attempts to get a new start on her life.
(2) Ontario Health Tax called a sham – Dalton McGuinty is covering his ears to the outrage from the review. Taxpayers are paying for their own health care tax as well as that of some civic workers that gets downloaded to property taxes.
The Liberal Government arrogantly asserts that "…voters would not have elected the government to a second majority government last fall if the health premium was as unpopular as critics charge."
That’s right. Ontario Lemmings cannot get their fill of taxes. And by now, we all know that the health tax goes to General Revenues, right? And that goes towards giving "fat-cat banks and other businesses a tax break.” (see link). And look how well that’s going – Governments losing tax-cut gains: study.
Jeff Allen discusses this topic today on 570 News. (BTW, he also announced that he will be interviewing Brenda Martin and Deb Tieleman tomorrow.)
(3) Abortion and Morgentaler are still hot topics in Letters to the Editor – Abortion is a Right and A Fetus has Rights.
Only 15 hours left to vote! – Does Canada Need Some Kind of Abortion Law?
(4) Ezra Levant points out how hollow his ‘victory’ is.
(5) As Matt notes, Dion seems to be looking to Obama for the keys to 24 Sussex.
Update: Here’s #6 – ‘Hated’ church group to protest Tim McLean funeral. Talk about adding insult to injury! The poor family.
Evening update: The National Post reports that the protesters are being stopped at the border.

I’ll just comment on “health care”. Publicly funded health care, like any government tax break or “benefit” for the masses, are really dreamt up by government employees to benefit themselves, but are sold as ostensibly for “you”. Otherwise government employees would have to pay from their own pay packets for their private health concerns, like we all did before state-run health care was introduced. With state-run health care we spread the “costs” around but not everyone has the same health issues as everyone else. But you get to shell out “equally” for your neighbors’ health issues. It’s all part of that caring and sharing of everybody elses wealth that the socialistas promote.
If you are waitng in line for some medical issue, the ones ahead of you in line are most likely some government employees.
1) Brenda Martin in Waterloo – lucky you. You’ll have your local media fawning there in no time flat. Although would be a choice opportunity for some letters to the editor and ask questions that the media will never ask?
2) Ontario health tax a sham – no kidding. Without it how would we pay for sewers and education? Healthcare, doctors? What a crock. After years without a doctor I now have one who only works 3 days a week, making it necessary for me to clog up emerg.
We may be paying something called a Health Care Premium in Ontario but the quality of healthcare and service has not improved…at least not in my neck of the province.
3) Abortion law poll – for some reason the poll isn’t working for me.
4) Ezra Levant – great for Levant but what a huge waste of money. Nothing more urgent I guess.
5) Dion looking for help from Obama to get to 24 Sussex – that’s because he can’t do it himself. Why would Canadians EVER vote for a leader who has such little confidence in his ability that he has to be Obama’s pilot fish.
If you are waitng in line for some medical issue, the ones ahead of you in line are most likely some government employees.
I’m not doubting you there, JT, but I’d love to see some proof of that. All I know for sure is that waiting to see a specialist can take a ridiculously long time here in Ontario.
Sol-
1) That’s my biggest fear – that she’ll be heralded as some kind of celebrity here.
2) I don’t know anyone in Ontario that thinks the health care situation has improved except the governing Liberals and their minions.
3) That’s strange. Is anyone else having problems?
4) Huge waste of money for everyone except the complainants. That has to change.
5) As usual, Dion is not living in the real world, I suspect.
About the comment re:Gov’t employees getting to the head of the line,I can refute that (altho my situation is in Manitoba)I injured myself in Jan. (at a Gov’t job, waited until Aug. to see arthroscopic surgeon..and finally have a surgery date for mid-Sept.The irony of it all,is I work in the Healthcare/Soc.Services sector,so I know all too well about long wait times. My Mom died waiting for surgery as well. So…don’t blame us for long line-ups!
Wow. Sorry to hear about your Mom, Sammy. That’s tragic.
So I guess long wait times seem to be an issue right across Canada, and obviously working in the sector doesn’t get you to the front of the line.
Thanks very much for sharing your personal story.
It really bothers me to hear of folks dying waiting for care in Ontario.
Another case of the state not really being the solution to the growing problem.
It’s an Ontario that most simply can’t recognize any longer.
At the very least with Mike Harris we approached a discussion about working with alternative choices to state-run healthcare(and education) because quite honestly the system that’s in place can’t sustain itself.
Also, why aren’t we holding McGuinty’s feet to the fire re: spending our health premium on education and infra-structure?? Is this another free ride for him and his gov’t?
We’re such suckers.
Imagine that, Taber writes,it must be the same background format letter she already formatting years ago in case she needs to make changes here or there.
Nothing is new except for OBAMA. One thing she forgot to add is “OBAMA LIKE DION.”
How can we hold McGuinty’s feet to the fire when he has a majority, Sol?
Guess what people, the liberals have listed their witnesses (all conservatives obviously) for the next showdown in the kangaroo court.
The conservatives are not permitted to have witnesses of their own.
Rich, there’s democracy for you. Do you happen to have a link? Thanks.
Joanne, I read about the 31 conservatives called to be interrogated and their names somewhere in the blog or in the liberal newspaper. My husband also read it but for some reason it slipped our minds. Sorry.
No problem, Rich.
I did find this though. Maybe that’s what you were thinking of – In and out farce.
I find that ending of that piece somewhat naive.
#4 – Ezra is my hero.
#5 – Dion is delusional.
#6 – I’m in Wpg. and if those wackos do anything to make this worse for the family, I will go and hold a sign calling them wackos and I hope thousands of other Winnipegers will do the same. Better yet, stop them at the border and send them back where they came from.
“…voters would not have elected the government to a second majority government last fall if the health premium was as unpopular as critics charge.”
Thanks, John Tory!
…oh, and thanks for the third term I’ll win in the next election.
You hang in there!
The letter to the editor (Abortion is a right) has some interesting points. While acknowledging that deciding abortion is a difficult matter to choose, and often caused by the abandonment of the mother by her family and the father of the baby, the fact of the matter is that very few of these abortions are medically necessary. When we have publically funded health care; i.e. my money pays for your procedure, I have a right to know how my money is being spent. The Canada Health Act does not proscribe that provinces pay for elective surgery. That is what nearly all of the abortions are. Asking me to contribute to your lifestyle medical choice surrenders a portion of your supposed right to solely make that choice.
Joanne, I read about the 31 conservatives called to be interrogated and their names somewhere in the blog or in the liberal newspaper. “My husband’ also read it but for some reason it slipped our minds. Sorry.
Joanne, I mentioned ‘my husband’ when in fact it is “my wife” also read. She also writes to you and for some reason or other she forgot to change my name to hers.
lol!! Thanks for clearing that up, Rich. I’m very pleased that you both send comments.
I have to slack off a bit from blogging over the next little while due to time constraints, but I hope to be able to post once in a while.
I always appreciate comments even if they are off-topic, because I often hear of breaking news that way. Thanks.
HEADS UP TO JOANNE OR ANY OTHER BT READING THIS WHO WANTS TO BLOG ON IT AFTERWARDS:

Thanks, Grind a Grit. I must remember to tell my Mom. She follows US politics very closely.
Hi Joanne I just came across this interview about Bush’s business and associates ..

I think that this sort of gathering is a must as well as having Country’s willing to go along in international prosecution of these criminals .
