I must be spending way too much time out in the sun this summer (when it hasn’t been raining). I just finished reading Michael Den Tandt’s piece, "It’s Time for Dion to Stand up and Fight ", and am deeply troubled.
O.K. The title seems reasonable. A so-called leader can only back down a finite number of times before losing all credibility.
However, this paragraph is what’s bothering me:
As Dion gauges his timing, he’ll be given pause by the Liberals’ continuing financial woes. But he’ll be buoyed by the generally positive press his Green Shift has gotten this summer. He knows that economic slowdowns are ripe with possibility for opposition parties. And, he’ll be sick and tired of being taunted.
I would really appreciate it if my Liberal friends can provide some links to relevant polls and news articles. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
I must try to be more attentive.

Update: So far, all I’ve been able to come up with to substantiate his claim is this – Harper hist a snag. Strangely enough, it’s by the same columnist.
Funny that…
Please check out the comments following this bit of Star propaganda – Bring on fall election, Liberals say. And note the use of the word "hurled" in the Star’s ‘news’ story. (H/T to Alberta Girl).
Reid seems a bit perturbed with Den Tandt too. Glad I’m not the only one.

Sunday Update: Phantom Observer has a great post up that was listed at Jack’s Daily Blogger site – Diebel Decodes an Undeliberate Dion.

My first question upon reading DenTandt’s piece was “what planet is this guy on?” because he’s sure not seeing what the rest of Canada is seeing in Dion or the Green Shrift.
He almost makes the case the Dion and the Liberals are prepared for an election – Hahahahahahahahaha – what with no plans, no money and an unhappy grassroot contingent.
Me think this is one of the worse cases of lemming nearsightedness I’ve ever seen on the author’s part
Joanne.
Perhaps he’s writing fantasy these days?
And now Bob Rae is enlightening Canadians with his wisdom that Canadians are ready for an election. Maybe this is the new way the MSM are brainwashing Canadians.
Of course in the Star article the author states that the PM “hurled” the challenge. Yeah riiggghhhhtttt….
Dion – it states – is on “vacation”. Hmmmmm I thought he was spending the summer selling his shaft…er shift. Guess it was only half the summer – maybe it is now up to the MSM to sell it for the rest of the summer. Or, maybe given the cool weather, Dion thinks summer is over.
I should have made it clear that my comment was from the Star article at NNW “Bring on the Election, Liberals say”.
it appears the MSM are rallying around the Libs.
You don’t seem to understand the way the ‘News’ media works. They make up the ‘information’ they want you to hear, you absorb their drivel and don’t ask questions. Dions NEP II has been received favourably by both the press and the public precisely because a ‘reporter’ said it has, just as Harper is ‘mean’ because they say so. ‘Journalists’ are working very hard to return the Gliberals to power, it is counterproductive for people to go around upsetting the natural order by asking for actual facts.
Morning Jo…Hey, that sounds pretty good.
“Come on over to Blue Like You for your cup of Morning Jo”
You know, I read that first column last Friday and laughed out loud when I read, …, Dion has shown that he has a coherent, serious plan for tackling the related problems of climate change,…
Talk about your rose color glasses, or in this case, your Liberal Red color glasses.
Trying to sell Dion and his Green Shaft as coherent just earned you your “I kneel to my Liberal Masters” badge Michael.
Glad to see you back up. I panic when I get those silly messages from IE or Norton.
Den Tandt is correct. Support for Dion’s plan has doubled.
From one to two people. Dion and Den Tandt.
“Dion – it states – is on “vacation”. ”
Pay attention, Alberta Girl ! Didn’t you watch Oliver paying homage to Dion in an interview on QP last Sunday ????
He is spending one week “canoing and fishing”. Which makes Harper’s “Fish or cut bait” comment all the more appropriate. You’d think someone in the media could have riffed on that.
Ah – thank you jad. I did miss Ollie’s interview. Remember when PET spent a week in the wilderness (albeit with the MSM who took haunting photos of the great Trudeau in his “solitary pensive state”) to figure out his future (or something like that). Maybe Dion is trying to sell his shaf…er shift to the fishies.
I will certainly pay better attention although I gave up watching QP as my blood pressure would rise by the time it was over due to my yelling at the television every 3 or 4 minutes.
Dion canoes? I wonder if he even knows the bow from the stern.
Sorry but he just doesn’t come across as the outdoorsy type.
Morning Jo…Hey, that sounds pretty good.
“Come on over to Blue Like You for your cup of Morning Jo”
I like that too, Platty! Makes everything sound so cozy and coffee klatchish.
I may try to work that into the template somewhere.
Glad to see you back up. I panic when I get those silly messages from IE or Norton.
Mary T, Jack put up a post on the problem – It had something to do with sitemeter. I was having trouble too. I may end up dropping them if there are any more problems.
Alberta Girl, remember the tape of Trudeau paddling the canoe, if you look closely you’d notice that the yoke for carrying/portaging the canoe was facing the wrong way, meaning PET was paddling backwards. Typical for a socialist crook.
I’m not at all concerned about what’s being written in the opinion columns. I’m basically the target market for the so-called “Green Shift”, someone who’s voted both CPC and Liberal in the past, a believer in the necessity of GHG reduction, and I’m not at all impressed with the Liberal proposal, because of the increase in “targetted”, or what I like to call “vote-buying” spending. The new GS bureaucracy that would be necessary is something only a Liberal would love.
If the Libs want a minority/majority they won’t do it on the backs of the Greens/NDP.
CPC supporters should just quietly push for an election campaign in the Fall, because I suspect it will be a interesting result (Bob and/or Iggy will be pleased). No mention of Green Shifting until the campaign, then attack the crap out of it.
I didn’t even notice that you wrote this like 5 hours before I made my post.
Den Tandt is shameless Liberal shill. Read any of his past stuff and it’s like it came straight from the Liberal party offices.
O/T but … calling all fans of former Premier of Alberta Ralph Klein and former PM Jean Chretien. Listen to Mr. Klein interview Mr. Chretien on the CBC program The House. Broadcast available here:

For the heck of it, take a look at the piece I wrote on July 31st, basically saying the same thing.
If you even look at the wording, one is lead to believe that I inspired the article. No? Is it just me?
I just went and looked at your piece, Trusty T, and yes, I’m afraid it is just you.
Are you talking about Joanne’s piece? If you are, did you perhaps link to the wrong piece at your site?
I didn’t even notice that you wrote this like 5 hours before I made my post.
That’s o.k Reid. We easterners get up earlier than you guys out West, but we both arrived at the same conclusion – B.S.!!!!
EBD, I have no idea what TTT is referring to either.
It wasn’t verbatim, obviously, but the premise remains the same. For example, the use of the term “from whence he came”. I dunno, perhaps I’m just flattering myself. Yeah, probably. I’ll be okay.
For example, the use of the term “from whence he came”.
Oh yeah. I see what you’re getting at now.
So maybe Den Tandt read your article first and borrowed some of the imagery?
You know, TT, I’m not sure I would be totally thrilled if I thought Michael Den Tandt lifted some of my literary ideas and then pasted them into a glorification of Stephane Dion.
No, I’m not saying I’m thrilled, but I am saying that he’s taken some of the thoughts and restructured them into a desperate plea to Stephane Dion. You know..some of the similarities are just too obvious to miss. My wife even pointed it out…
but I am saying that he’s taken some of the thoughts and restructured them into a desperate plea to Stephane Dion.
O.K. Point taken.
The next step is to see what Mr. Dithers the Second decides to do.
Jo,
Even the most wimpy LPC voters I know think the GS is confusing and likely to cost them money. While I would like to see a Fall election, I would eat my (carefully washed and pressed) shorts if Dion actually votes against any confidence vote in 2008.
My first question upon reading DenTandt’s piece was “what planet is this guy on?” because he’s sure not seeing what the rest of Canada is seeing in Dion or the Green Shrift.
