Congrats on the promotion M. Fortier - you certainly are a shooting star, especially for an unelected and unaccountable senator!

    Let the spin begin……

“Congrats on the promotion M. Fortier - you certainly are a shooting star, especially for an unelected and unaccountable senator”

You mean as opposed to Stephane Dion, who was appointed to cabinet by Chretien before being voted an MP.

Or did you mean Pierre Pettigrew, who was also appointed to cabinet before being elected an MP.

And hey, how many senators are elected? I thought Lib’s were against that.

  4. Good for James Moore!

But one of these days, I would really like to see Diane Ablonczy get the recognition she deserves!

  5. Then we have the obligatory, and so obviously unbiased CTV poll question -

    Today’s Question
Does David Emerson, who angered voters when he jumped from the Liberals to the Tories, stand a better chance of being re-elected as foreign minister?
    Yes
    No

Just b/c it happened in the past doesn’t make it right.

Fundamentally believe that Senators should be elected. Canadians have the right to have a say on who speaks on their behalf both domestically and abroad.

This include Senators AND members of the Privy Council.

  7. Anyone watch the cbc rabid pro-lib coverage of this event? They dragged Newman,Travers and Hall out to scoff, and giggle like a bunch of school girls..it was an absolute disgrace for so-called msm broadcast.Made me sick to my stomach. As well, ctv’s Jacquiline Mil-i’m-a-liberal-chzarek,or however you spell it..was brutal as well.at one point she tried to make disparaging remarks to Fife and Duff, about the ‘pro-Israel’ stance of Cons.gov’t,but thankfully,Fife shot her down when he pointed out, that Lib stance was same..only PMSH little more outspoken. She then trots out Dosanjjh for the Lib view, and screws up when she asked about ‘what the ndp will be focusing on when Parl resumes in the fall’Pretty disheartning to view the so-called experts/pundits disgrace themselves, and grovel to the Libs.NO balance from cbc at all.

  8. PNR has really outed herself with her last post. If you are going to change your name, change your style also.

It sure was nice to have Mike Duffy announcing this event, instead of listening completely to Robert Fife screwing it up with his liberal comments. If you hear him once per day, you hear him 10 times state that Bernier is the worst Foreign Affairs Minister Canada ever had….. I bet, most liberals would say that Dion is the worst Liberal Leader Canada ever had as well, but the media or fife never come outright and say it…. How does he have the right to make the judgment on Mr. Bernier?…..He doesn’t state - this person said that, it is only his opinion… and why should a reporter feel it necessary to comment negative about Mr. Bernier? He didn’t take millions of dollars from Canadians, he resigned from cabinet immediately, maybe the liberals could follow suite…. they have taken the name of a private company for their green plan they copied from someone else…. but they think they have the right to keep it, so it will go to court!!!…. They never apologize….. but it was wonderful having Mike today… a very pleasant change, you could watch it and not be ready to turn the T.V. off before it was over…

  10. I wanted to vote on CTVs poll on Emerson, but they took it down. I wonder why?

  11. You had me right up until “Kady O’Malley is live blogging….” suddenly my interest just evaporated! 8)

  12. maryt,

it seems to have taken your advice…now she’s doing her best redneck impression…

  13. Usually when a new person comes along, they say so with something like, just found you, first time poster or something similiar. And, one has usually seen the name somewhere else in the blogosphere. To just jump in is like the liberals just stealing a name from a woman and thinking hey noone will notice.

Someone should ask Fife who is the worst Ambassador to Denmark Canada ever had.

Brett - the poll is still up and running.

    Tori and Maryt

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but I really am not whoever you think that “she” is.

Last time I checked I am a “he” not a “she”.

Y’all was not meant to be misleading, still some lingering effects in language from time spent working in South Carolina.

My apologies for not following proper blogsphere etiquette. I have just found this site, am a huge political junkie, and am looking forward to engaging in thoughtful debate.

  17. Why is there no liberal backlash re Garth crossing the floor. However, if Emmerson’s riding is full of gayles, of course he will not win, but when Vancouver is again out of cabinet, don’t expect PMSH (with his majority) to give vancouver a voice re appointments.
After the 2010 games, Vancouver will be out of the loop. Even Travers mentioned the new minister for the games says he will be there till at least 2010, so guess he knows dion is toast.
And, if BC elects a bunch of liberals, with their carbon tax in full swing, maybe the ROC will say NO to visiting, and don’t expect a lot from the USA.
I know I have no plans to go or to watch the games, or to buy any of the products promoting said games.

  18. OMMAG,I do concur with your comment on ‘Kindergarten Katie’ live-blogging. I find her style, irritating, over the top & childish to say the least!I had to quit reading her stuff, due to high blood pressure.BTW,see link at Bourque to post on the real Greenshift site,in response to the Libs stealing her ‘brand’Doesn’t sound like Jennifer is happy with the extra traffic, that the Libs feel she should fall all over herself in gratitude!

  19. PNR, if you are not who we think I apologize, and if you are a political junkie, you are welcome, but take note, this is a Conservative point of view site.
Even US politics are talked about, so having spent time in the south, perhaps you can give us some info on who will win. Me, I’m for McCain.

  20. The Liberals have not changed one little bit. They are still arrogant and still thing they are entitlements.
They think they are entitled to that name “Green Shift” even though this poor women spent years to build and to protect it. The audacity of those Libs. Honesty, do they not have any scruples? What were they and what are they thinking?
I hope Jennifer Wright finds someone to take on the case pro bono or find the funds to launch a suit and take those clowns to the cleaners.

  21. …but take note, this is a Conservative point of view site.

Yes, I don’t try to hide that. It is blatantly partisan. However, if a Liberal does something good, I try to give him or her credit. For example, I admire John Manley. Another Liberal whom I admire very much is… um, give me a minute….

    Maryt;

No worries at all - sorry for any confusion that my unannounced arrival may have caused.

I think that the backlash with the whole Emerson thing has more to do with “when” he crossed the floor, rather than “that” he crossed the floor. It was way to close to the election, and showed, on his part, a total disregard for the will of the constituents. In the last 2 general elections, the Tories were not even close to winning that riding. Running as a Liberal, he won by over 10,000 votes, and the NDP (gulp) finished second.

With Garth - he joined the Liberals after he had been booted out of the Tory caucus. Think there was more backlash within the Liberal camp for agreeing to take on such a loose cannon.

Looking south, I think the McCain is too closely associated with Dubya, and after eight years there really is an appetite for change. With all that being said, and from my experiences in SC, I really can’t see the American’s ready to elect an African American to the highest office of the land.

As for political stripes, I try as much as possible not to take a partisan stance, and look to see who has the best plans and policies for the pressing issues facing our country.

  23. See, PNR is way too reasonable to be Gayle. ;)

  24. jo,

gayle used to be reasonable in her debate a long time ago. Disagreed with much she had to say, but she was respectful, much like PNR is now…

and anyone can pretend to be the opposite gender– look at pedophiles.

I’m sorry PNR, if I’m wrong, I’ll gladly eat the humble pie…but until then…

  25. Isn’t it funny how liberals have such short memories re adscam, gagliano, sponsorship, I will abolish gst, and so many other things, but have a one track mind re Emmerson and Fourtier. They also forget how JC appointed unelected Quebecers to sit at cabinet, without benefit of being appointed to the Senate.
And then Jason has the gall to use liberals and integrety in the same sentence, when suggesting that Chong should cross the floor to join a party with integrety.
    Good post PrN. Enjoyed it.

  26. OT but Max is speaking on cbc now.

  27. Aside from the fact I do not write like PNR, there is the fact I do NOT fundamentally believe senators should be elected.

I think maybe Tori and Mary should relax a bit.

And here’s a hint - if you want to be treated respectfully, you might want to practice what you preach.

    Just a suggestion…

  28. I’m just following your lead, gayle :)

  29. Late last year while travelling through Emerson’s riding, I noticed a guy walking around in a skunk suit holding a “De-elect Emerson” sign. I rolled down the window and had a few choice words for him.

Lefties live to picket. But I have to say, the skunk suit was a nice touch. At least he provided a bit of entertainment on a long drive to the doctors office.

  30. “I’m just following your lead, gayle”

You mean, like this (your comments from DBT)

    “shorter gayle
“it’s only ok when I call hypocrasy against Harper” or for me to use “you did it, too!” as an argument

yeah, because poor, sweet, innocent gayle NEVER threadjacks…
unless you want to play the “well, he started it!!!” card and relegate yourself to the antics of a 4 year old…”

You walked right into that one, though I do agree you are starting to sound like a 4 year old.

    As I said:

“And here’s a hint - if you want to be treated respectfully, you might want to practice what you preach.

    Just a suggestion…”

My other suggestion is that you get over your obvious obsession with me. I was not even posting here and you still found it necessary to insult me.
