Men - Tired of paying for your own PSA tests?
A letter-writer in today’s National Post has the solution. This one’s a hoot!
I am so happy that Dalton McGuinty and George Smitherman have found a way to spend my Ontario Health Tax. I was always ticked off having to pay for my PSA test out of my own pocket, but after this announcement, I am now seriously considering the sex-change option.
Maybe this is Dalton’s solution for having changed Ontario from a "have" province to a "have-not" province. These guys are so special. They can have it both ways. Now so can I .
Warren (Wendy) Brown, Long Sault, Ont.
Absolutely brilliant!
Other good letters here and here .
As I said yesterday , the amount of money may not be huge, but the optics are terrible. Also, the number of applicants for this type of operation may increase dramatically, now that it is covered by OHIP.
And since the Lemmings of Ontario have seen fit to reward this Liberal Government with a majority, I see no hope on the immediate horizon for any common sense to prevail.

“I see no hope on the immediate horizon for any common sense to prevail”
Where the hell are the opposition on this?????
Peek-a-boo Mr. Tory and Mr. Hampton.
You’re letting the lemmings get their pawprints on just about everything these days.

Actually Sol, Hampton has been heard on this issue. He actually agrees with McShifty! Hampton has even critized McGuinty for taking so long to keep his promise to restore funding for sex-change operations!
What the hell kind of screwed up place is this?
McGuinty has broken so many promises, why couldn’t he have broken this one as well.
As for Tory, I haven’t heard anything from him on this.

Tory who?

Alberta was paying for prisoners to have this operation. Maybe still are.

Mary T - You’re kidding! Alberta of all places?

The case I referred to did happen. A prisoner, who was to be released in a yr or so wanted to come out as a Pauline instead of Paul (forget the name) so he/she could start a new life. Prisoners get free health care, but he was refused. Went to the AHRC and was granted the operation. Never did hear if he got it. I bring this case up at every opportunity, during elections, and other town halls, when the topic is, how to cut health care cost.
On another thread on guy asked, re this,
Is this what they mean by Ont going to be a have not province.

lol!!! I was just reading a tongue-in-cheek comment from the Family Coalition on this subject - that currently a sex-change operation can only be done on men, because it’s easier to take away than to create, I suppose. The writer said it seems discriminatory against women.
That said, isn’t there a case in the States of a man who was once a woman now planning to give birth to his own child?
It’s so confusing!!!

Tory who?
I was going to say my usual “something nasty” about Tory, but you beat me to it.
When will we get a real PC leader in Ontario?

Joanne, I am sure you know the name of these operations as per Rush Limbaugh,

I appreciate the Ontario gentleman’s beef for having to pay for his own PSA tests, but here in Alberta, it isn’t any different and I suspect it isn’t in any other province or territory. I only got “free” (like really - I pay quarterly health premiums so that I can appreciate that health care costs something, pffft!) PSA tests after prostate surgery.

I hope things are o.k. for you now, JT.
In any case, I guess Ontario isn’t the only province with these problems. Thanks for the perspective.

It seems a cpc MP has written a letter to the finance minister asking that no federal money be given to Ont for a change of sex operation. If I remember, several years ago the federal govt withheld health care funds from Alberta because abortions were not provided here.
And it was a liberal govt that withheld the funds. Don’t recall Ont objecting to this so turn around is fair game. Pay for these operations yourself, not with fed funds.

Really? How very interesting. Thanks for that, Mary.

NNW has the story re Pierre P. and his letter. Also, I think it was Diane Marleau who was minister of health that withheld funds from AB.

Wonder if Kady will be their on our dime.
