Brendan at Poliwoliblog seems concerned about the rumour that George Smitherman might run for mayor of Toronto in 2010 .
I say, let Toronto have him – Just as long as David Miller doesn’t end up in charge of Ontario Health care.
What a nightmare that would be.

Is George seeing a Peterson-Rae moment in McWimpy’s future?
Interesting thought, Swift. Yes, perhaps he’s thinking about jumping ship before it hits the iceberg.
The last thing a vibrant and economically healthy Toronto needs is another knowledge-bandwidth-limited socialist mayor.
Incidentally, I note that most of the comments from Torontonians, posted in Joanne’s second link agree.
Toronto is coming to the realization that they’ve been duped by free-spending propagandists pandering to special interest groups who love to spend their taxpayer money frivolously.
I think that Toronto will elect a more sensible city council and mayor at their next opportunity.
Second link? I just get red Star articles (which I refuse to read) with no comments. Having recently been paroled from a 20 year sentence in the centre of the universe, I was interested to see what my former neighbours were saying – could they actually be starting the see the forest for the trees?? Nawww…
Annie, the link is here. It’s a compilation of reader reactions to the story.
Thanks Joanne – I’m sorry, when I click on a link and see the Star banner come up, I just click away again without reading. #1 – cos its the Star and #2 I know the they don’t allow reader comments.
I guess I need to stop and actually look at the page instead of dismissing it.
thanks again.
Annie, what’s the old saying? Something like even a broken clock is right twice a day.
I believe the municipal elections are in 2010, actually.
“Toronto is coming to the realization that they’ve been duped by free-spending propagandists pandering to special interest groups who love to spend their taxpayer money frivolously.”
I see no evidence of this. I actually see TO getting worse based on the people I talk too. There is a real dig your head in the sand and refuse to see reality mentality now.
The only joy of a Smitherman vs. Miller campaign would be seeing Miller deal with all of the accusations of “homophobia” that would fly from the mud-slinging Smitherman supporter camp.
“Interesting thought, Swift. Yes, perhaps he’s thinking about jumping ship before it hits the iceberg.”
Actually Joanne I think the iceberg has already been hit. McGuinty reminds me of the musicians on the Titanic who continue playing and acting like nothing has happened and everything will be A-o.k.
Smithermen, on the other hand, is the one pushing women and children out of the way to save his own ass.
Works for me! Smitherman as Toronto Mayor when Dalton moves to take Dion’s place????
Got for it George!!
I believe the municipal elections are in 2010, actually.
Thanks, Joan. Typo corrected. It’s the provincial one that’s in 2011, right?
Actually, with Furious George’s well known anger management issues, maybe the cities unions would get some well deserved attitude from the boss for a change. A tongue lashing, instead of a tongue bathing.
