Brenda’s defense was a statement by Alan Waage the convicted felon who bilked millions from thousands of people that she was not guilty. Mexican authorities were not stupid and naive enough to believe him and knew he and Brenda participated in a money laundering scheme . Even Canadians that had an IQ higher than their shoe size were not fooled by the cries of innocence. How could one who reportedly worked for minimum wage for 9 months, before being fired, be given a cheque for 27 thousand dollars ( some people whose intelligence was insulted were told that it was severance pay - sure thing) and then she returned 10 thousand dollars back to Waage as well as her boy friend who gave money to Waage - later some of this money found its’ way back into Martin’s hands. Everywhere including Mexico this is called money laundering of illicit and illegal funds. In the end thousands of innocent people were duped and lost their hard earned money to crooks who deserve any punishment they got.

I suppose … in theory … this is “nice”. Brenda just isn’t very sympathetic though. Also, a $25k severance package is pretty darned high to receive for food services. It seems unlikely she knew NOTHING. Moreover, her hysterics and ability to play the Canadian media has been a turn-off. Nope … just don’t feel the joy over here.

I suspect there are many Canadians out there that feel the way you and I do - that somehow we’ve been ‘used’. But if this puts an end to the daily updates of media hysterics, it’s well worth the cost to the taxpayer, which I imagine is quite a hefty tab by now… Was that really a private jet that she came back in?

I agree, but it would not surprize me one bit if Liberals and/or CBC with cameras in tow do a “special” detailed account of her “plight”. She does owe us sucker taxpayers who toil all winter in the bitter cold up here an advance of $3500.00 if my memory serves me well. CBC would gladly cut her a cheque if she “delivers” the goods. So tax dollars could be reimbursed by more tax dollars.

A few weeks ago, someone had a list of all the canadians who were in canadian jails, for over 2 years awaiting trial. Wish I could remember it.
Jason should get his facts straight. If he is so wrong on this, what else is he wrong about, except everything. Notice he has not mentioned the dismal results of liberal fundraising.

Actually, my husband advises me that the local ‘Jeff Allan’ show was so pro-Brenda and government-bashing, that he had to turn it off. Lucky for me, I was working out and blissfully unaware.

This isn’t over yet! Nor have we heard the last of her -
From what I’m gathering, she’s going to be incarcerated for a while yet, and I’m sure she’s going to have lots more bitching and complaining to do where that’s concerned. There is no appreciation in that woman! It’s always been, and always will be a “poor me” scenario with her, and so with that said, she’s probably going to try and profit somehow from all this…Maybe she’ll try to sell her “story” now!

And now that she’s back and settling into a Canadian prison, I’m assuming that she’s still going to be demanding all kinds of drugs and meds because the Mexicans have now turned her into a junkie…Again, everyone else is always held responsible for her troubles and strife…
Wonder if after everything relaxes, and she fades into her own world again, if she’s going to try and find a new, warm climate to move to again. God knows, she only used Canada because of this fiasco! Actually, I guess she won’t be kindly received anywhere else in the world, and will in fact, now have a criminal record which will, in all likelyhood prevent her from leaving Canada - DAMN!
Unfortunately, I’m still feeling rather “bitter” about the whole thing. She, quite *simply*, turns my stomach and leaves me feeling completely nauseated…
I wish she’d just go away…

Charles Adler was on a tear this pm, lambasting all anti-Brenda bashers, including columnist Don Martin for a recent anti-Brenda column: http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=478029
Adler phrased it this way: “What about ME!!!” That’s what he thought the backlash amounts to, that some Canadians are jealous of the attention Ms. Martin has been getting in the media.
What Adler fails to realize is;
1. There is no absolute certainty regarding Ms. Martin’s innocence, which he seems to believe in. True, neither is there absolute certainty about her guilt, but her case was given a “guilty” verdict by the Mexican system.
2. Much of the information spread by the media rang untrue.
• she speaks fluent Spanish, contrary to media reports
• she was not mistreated while in jail, judging by her clothing and her appearance & the beauty pageant she participated in
• she received many visits from consular personnel, contrary to reports
• she had easy access to phones, given the number of interviews she granted
• she herself hindered the judicial proceedings by changing lawyers and course of action
• she bad-mouthed anyone other than her Liberal “allies” like McTeague
• but most of all, both her mother and her friend Ms. Tieleman badmouthing the PM, making outrageous statements about her blood being on his hands, was definitely not a sympathy grabber for me.
No, Mr. Adler, this had nothing to do with Canadians feeling they had not gotten the same attention they deserve lavished on the Martin case.
This was more a feeling that we’ve been played like a finely-tuned violin by a media hungry for hard-luck stories to fill airtime, regardless of the veracity of the crocodile tears being shed and extracted from spectators.

I don’t think there are so many ‘anti-Brenda bashers’ as there are people who are sick and tired of Brenda & Co. bashing the government’s efforts and Canadian taxpayers by extension, who have likely forked over a fair chunk of change for all this.
