A survey of all weather stations that are used to calculate the global temperatures is being done and can be seen at surfacestations.org. Some of the requirements of a good site are:
1. Level
2. No buildings nearby
3. Ground covered by typical vegetation(usually grass except in desert or semidesert areas)
4. No large paved areas nearby
5. No trees nearby

Parking boats or vans, barbequeing, burning trash etc, may not have a specific mention in the site requirements, but should be no nos on general principles. Most of the deviations from standard except for trees result in higher temperatures.

You can also do your bit to help in this survey. If you have a GPS unit and a digital camera you can photograph and record the position of the weather stations near you.

Hi Jo -- I've linked to you on the same topic. I am going to do one broken promise a day -- plus each day reminding people about the broken promise on increasing taxes. Don't know if it will make a difference. But, we have to keep at it, day after day. The McGuinty election team is obviously bringing this issue out early in the hopes it will go away. Let's make sure it doesn't.

The Ipperwash inquiry took three years and cost three milliom dollars, but ignored the residents. Their story could be your story some time soon, no matter where you live in Ontario(maybe Canada?). Just ask the residents of Caledonia.
